Bream are not a game fish . They tend to breed to much so alot of lakes especially in the south actually request you catch more bream than you want do not throw back in water but on shore were cranes and predators like raccoons will find them as a tasty treat.

Mom sounds cool! My mother was a die hard angler as well, we'd go out on 3 day boats out of San diego Bay and she would spend an hour + fighting massive bluefin tunas, then clean em when we got back home. She also passed last October from heart failure. I feel your pain, buddy. RIP fishin moms.
Musky or northern.... often when perch or crappie, or 'gill fishing in Wisconsin you get one on then they get slammed , usually you lose both fish cuz of having no leader but occasionally you land them!! 🎣

About 10 minutes later My uncle netted it..It was 46.5" & weighed almost 32 lbs..🤯 That's when I was 16 I'm 42 now & have been fishing around 500 times since I was a kid & 20 times of them for Musky specifically & have only caught 2 other ones..A 33" & a 38" so I was extremely lucky to say the least to catch that one.. Hopefully someday you can get to Wisconsin and try for yourself 👍💯❤️🎣

Try a 4/O circle hook. You only have to reel down on them that way, almost guaranteed hook up. And I like to use a slip bobber, still gives the fish the freedom of no bobber but you still get a clear view of the takedown. Nice video.

For using this in the future. Hold the bluegill up the the sun and look at its skeletal structure. Avoid them bones and increase the longevity and liveliness of the bait.
Used to do this as a kid with treble hooks. I would catch so many bass we would be there all day in the summer and a bit in the winter too (obviously different setups).
This might be a stupid question but when u use live bait and your catch swallows it, does it normally get the whole bait fish off the hook and it is stomach or are u pulling out pieces of bait fish with your hook ? kinda weird but just wondering

I used to do this all the time. Would go to the lake literally with one large hook, one small Hook, and a slice of bread. I would use the bread to catch a small sunny and put him on the big hook just like this. Worked EVERY time. Would catch monsters off of a dock at a campground I would go to with my family

If you hook it like that your bait won't live long if you put the hook in down that far your piercing it swim bladder organs hook up higher towards the spine
Live bluegill have resulted in a lot of bass catches for me. I love to watch them chase it down and wharf it. Its not as challenging as artificial, but its not without knowing when and where to do it. I fish mine at the edges of weedbeds and often get a bass. Sometimes a couple twitches will help elicit a strike too if a bass is following but u sure about committing to it. I caught a 3.5 lber today pitching a bluegill over s very thick weedbed and working it down toa place where I could lip it.
I caught my first big bass on a bluegill eyeball prob 2 pbs at local res when i was a kid. I ran out of corn to catch bluegill and tried to use a bluegill eyeball and caught a lunker for my day.

I’d suggest to creator/ other live bait fisherman to explore SWIMBAIT FISHING. there is nothing better than watching an 8 a 5 and a 4 pounder follow back your REUSABLE bluegill glide bait, hooking the 8, and then catching the 5 next cast 20 seconds later, and getting a picture of both :) no disrespect to live bait fisherman, I use croaker and live shrimp all the time, but only when I’m eating my catch. For bass fishing there are more humane ways, unless you guys keep bass too, then you’re just too far gone.

Usually isn't tricky. Most of the bass I've caught with live bluegill have either been in the corner of their mouth or right through the schnoz. Pretty easy to get the hook out.

Try to hook it through the lips the bass is most likely going to headshot it so you want that hook there. Hooking it behind the dorsal fin is good for cat fish.
Depends on the state you are in. And it varies. Some disallow any game fish for bait period like Minnesota, some only allow bluegill, others like Alabama allow for any fish deemed in the bream category(bluegill, shellcracker, and even crappie) to be legal live bait as long as it was caught via hook and line, and not by net.

I normally get the hook out of the fish, but when it doesn’t come out, the hook degrades in the fishes mouth. It doesn’t hurt them anymore.

They live for about 15 Minutes after you hook them.

My mad using an ewg work hook for live bluegill. Yeah it works but in order for maximum fish catching. You need to have a circle or live bait hook

I once used a bluegill as bait. Cast it into some tree branches by mistake and it was just hanging there with no way to get it down
Also if your doing this in a heavy weeded area hook them through the tail so you can drag them through the weeds..

Nice one. Hard to beat bluegills when the bass are gill eaters. Sometimes when there is better forage they tend to not eat bluegills. I think maybe its the fins. Some lakes here wth shad or kokanee they literally ignore gills 😂
I went a lake called Canyon Lake and we catched a lot of bluegill then after my dad collected them and got A ton of bass so thank you for the info😊
Some states it's illegal to use perch and any other kind of sunfish as bait so be careful people

Try to hook it through the lips the bass is most likely going to headshot it so you want that hook there. Hooking it behind the dorsal fin is good for cat fish.

In Nevada and Arizona, it's highly ileagle to catch stripped bass with a trout. You can catch some big fish that way though.

You should use a circle hook when live lining. The bass swallowed the hook. Maybe you eat largemouth bass in which case it’s fine.
I haven’t had any Bass filets in years but it’s better than a ribeye.

Depends on the state you are in. And it varies. Some disallow any game fish for bait period like Minnesota, some only allow bluegill, others like Alabama allow for any fish deemed in the bream category(bluegill, shellcracker, and even crappie) to be legal live bait as long as it was caught via hook and line, and not by net.
