This guy's knocking it out of the park! Catching some prime eating , takes a trip to memory lane to his childhood with the Cane pole. And catches a few bass just to keep it interesting. All though I'm not sure what's with those mud boots. That dock's so clean he could have fished in his church dress shoes if he wanted to.
Jerry Clower would say you makin me Huuuuungry! My favorite is a "crappy cheeseburger" a crappie filet over a hamburger pattie cheese lettuce tomato on grilled buttered sourdough slices. man what a shore lunch.try it!
Love that cane pole action, I have an extendable fiberglass pole I use occasionally. Years ago a couple would fish for big bluegill at a spot I did too. She couldn’t walk, he’d pick her up and set her in boat and give her a cane pole probably twelve feet pretty long for that little woman. He’d bait it and take her fish off, they’d catch a bunch👍
You can’t beat that! Fishing with a cane pole catching crappie. My grandfather use to use a cane pole to catch all different kinds of fish. Awesome videos as always Rocky!
Reminds me of fishin' with my grandpa (RIP). When I saw that submerged tree out there, i knew you'd have crappie stacked, with a good chance of losing your rig. Filet 'em, batter in cornbread fish mix and deep fry. Good time summer
Glad to see that you are using minnows so many fishermen and fisherwoman only use plastic anymore. My dad always used live bait ,it’s as old school as that cane pole.👍
Man I get so caught up trying to fish bass tournaments for a living that I forget why I fell in love with fishing in the first place. Sometimes you just gotta get some minners and a cork and go have some fun. Thanks brother! Great video.
That is a nice mess of crappie Mr Drake thank you for the video I really enjoyed it is fun watching you fish I hope you and your family are doing fine and I wish you all a Happy New Year take care of yourself and I'll catch you on your next video your friend Billy Simmons
Boy!!! That cane pole reminded me of growing up on Kentucky Lake. Many a crappie fell victim to the cane pole! Great video! Some really nice crappie! Thank you for sharing!🎣🎣
I never seen someone get some excited to catch Crappies/Blue Gills/Sun Fish... The do make good eating, even the smaller ones are perfect for shredding for dishes that have tuna-fish in.. In Minnesota I loved to go after Sun Fish as my limit was 30, when I was a kid and went fishing with my dad that got are count up to 60... That is allot of fish and he liked to go after Bass so he got to use my limit for his fish.. LOL
@@stevedurham3270 hey was you fishing at south holston lake in va/tn because that’s where I live that’s my hometown lake fish there all the time and if you caught one that big you can get a citation or might even be the lake record not sure
Great video my friend. I say old dad gonna love that mess. God bless ya and hope you and yours had a great Christmas and look forward to seeing the future videos.
Only thing bad about a cane pole crappie fishing, my uncle loved them poles but was heck when you set that hook on a 2lb bass or catfish, it's hilarious to watch
Used to love going to the creek with grandaddy with cane pole and worms or just what ever we. Hood catch and if we caught it we ate it grandma used to pressure cook the big carp and can them and she would cook salmon patties
Nice black crappies. What state? Shout out from Wisconsin. Lost the ice and back to waiting for it to form back up. I like to chase bluegill and crappie through the ice. Lots of fun!!
none of them are crappie . Those are spec. Lol . At least that is if your old school in Florida. I used to catch 50-100 in a day on lake Kissimmee when they were on the beds with cane poles and Missouri minnows . But that was about 40 years ago . We used to drift fish on lake Kissimmee and lake lake hatcineha .
There call Thump Net 🎣 There made my a company call Thump Gell. You can google them up. Great product. I appreciate you watching and thanks for your comment 🎣🎣
The one fish I cant seem to catch!!! Someone pls tell me how! Some have told me to have your bait suspended midway. Not surface or at bottem. Some say fish near dead trees or banks. Some say in the deep. Best fishing around winter. And the perfect bait keeps changing. Any pointers greatly appreciated! I can catch bass, sun perch, gar & cats all day. BUT THIS!
I have a hard time catching crappie most of the time also. It’s hard to beat live minnows this time of the year. Just before a cold front they normally bite good. This time of the year it seems the colder and nastier the weather the crappie bite is better. The problem for me is finding where the crappie are. Crappie seem to move around a lot. I wish I could help you better. Check out Richard Gene The Fishing Machine channel he’s a friend of mine he is a crappie catching expert 🎣🎣 Thanks Marley I appreciate your comment 🎣
Looks like you released bass but kept BIG crappies. Hopefully you release some of the bigger crappies. I hope you were feeding multiple people, you had enough crappies for several meals. I’m sorry if I offended you but I see all too much game hogging. So it’s just kind of a sore spot with me, especially when you watch the lake you fish being over fished and people blatantly ignoring limits. Then the next year the same people wondering where all the fish are. With all the new technology it has become too easy to catch fish.
You’re setting the hook way too hard for crappie I’m not trying to tell you how to fish lord knows you have way more experience than me but from a watching standpoint I think you ripped a few of there lips a little too much that’s why you lost a few next time try to just reel into the fish when you get a bit or guess you might be able to use a circle hook not sure god bless stay safe out there
I love catching crappie on a long, light action rod. I’m gonna have to find one of those cane poles, though. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for watching 🎣

best weight/type of line for crappie?
Crappie aren’t line shy so what ever line your you like. Probably 6lb mono is a good all around line🎣🎣
