I'm a teacher and have run bass fishing clubs at school for years; this is the most comprehensive single video guide I've ever come across, and will for sure be using it. Thanks for the great content!
Teaching my grandson to fish. It was overwhelming for me to try and conjure up all my "lessons." You did it remarkably well and I showed him this video. Thanks, Ty!!
This was great, I think the one thing you missed out on at the very end though was explaining why dark lures work in lowlight conditions, because on the surface it sounds counterintuitive. My understanding is darker lures work in lower light because they will at least have a decent silhouette around them from the small amount of light that still manages to penetrate.
Great stuff. I think what separates great anglers from not is the ability to read this stuff and the flexibility in your bait, technique, and conditions... I'll admit that I have a hard time veering off from what I WANT to throw, these videos are good reminders to go back to the basics. Thanks!
I've caught some of the biggest bass here in Ontario using a worm on a bobber, from a boat. Cast into heavily weeded areas in shallow water, allowing the bait to drop 18-20 inches into the water so it sits just above the weeds. Not very sophisticated, but it does work, all seasons (except Winter) and during all parts of the day.
Nice video Tyler, most people I know just go to places they've caught them before and just chunk and reel and hope for the best. I like to know why a fish was there and figure out what made me catch them and try to develop a pattern to catch more. To me that's just as fun as actually fighting the fish.
As a lifetime and avid bass fisherman, I have to say, this is the best "basics" video I've seen. It lives true to the title and covers most of what bassin is about. Great video.
A must watch video if you want to catch bass. Seriously, I've probably watched a couple hundred of videos on just bass fishing alone and this is one of the best if not the best. Straight to the point, talks about MANY Important categories, has great animations and pictures, provides a clear and simplistic understanding for the viewer, and even has a joke or two in there. 10 out 10!
I have literally watched thousands of bass fishing videos. And THIS is THE most informative videos I have EVER watched! I have actually watched it several times! Thanks for such great content!
Been at it for 3 months now and almost quit due to spending hours casting with very little results. This video is awesome! I’m going to review and study it like a PhD student
Start fishing 30 before dawn. Come back an hour or 2 before dusk. Use a 10 inch plastic worm (red shad) a 1 ounce rattletrap and a popper. You'll be feeling like Bill Dance 😎
This has got to be one of the most informative videos of an overview of bass fishing that I have ever seen. Thank you so much for making that. I took lots of notes
OMG I can't watch this just once. There's so much info in this that I had to bookmark it so I could rewatch it over & over. This answered soooo many questions I had!
I’ve been fishing for years, and this is one of the best, informative, all-encompassing bass video I’ve seen. You break everything down and make it so easy to understand. I have seen so many videos where the narrator quickly goes over stuff like water color/condition and bait and color selection. He’ll say the water is this condition and color so he will XYZ bait without explaining why. I still consider myself such a beginner but I always want to learn more and get better. This video helped a lot. Subscribed.
If you are fishing in certain rivers smallmouth will often come far up the creek, from experience in the upper Cumberland River and creeks in the area. Smallmouth will often spawn in calmer pools in the upper river areas, kentuckies love calm banks in deep spots on the river during the spawn every tree on the bank has a nice fish
I really appreciate TH-camrs that actually take their jobs seriously and prep for great presentations and videos like this one. It's clear that you have put some good work to make this video. great job as always my friend! I am not only learning how to fish for bass, but also how to make better videos. keep up the good work!!!!!
Just want to say that I really enjoy your videos. You really break things down in your videos and make things easier to interpret. You have a natural gift for teaching....clear calm voice, and very knowledgeable. Thank you for your videos!!
Tyler, this was a great educational video, in fact probably one of the best. I know you spent a lot of time doing this one. I have learned a lot and I have been fishing for 50 to 60 years but the serious fishing came when I was in my early 20s. I use to fish Lake Lanier for most of my life. I have moved to W.V. and Bass fishing is not easy to find here, can't find many lakes to fish. Thanks for a great video, I have learned a bunch!! Good luck in your fishing career 👍 David
I’m a newb when it comes to bass fishing. I just spent an hour taking thorough notes to use on the water from your video. This was excellent and I will refer back to it often - thanks
I've been trying to learn about what type of lies and such all day! I'm taking my grandson (13) on our annual camping trip and last year we didn't catch anything! His parents don't fish and he's proud of saying his Grandma taught him. ❤️. He's super excited for this trip and I'm DETERMINED that's he is going to catch fish! The more videos I watched, there more Amazon hunting I did, the more confused I got! The more videos you watch the more differing the opinions are! Who's right? Finally your video laid it all out, and helped me to be able to figure it out no matter where I am, and what the climate, what I need, instead of someone saying "use green worms with spinners" etc. it was easy to understand WHY to pick a certain bait, on a certain day, yadda yadda. I could've watched you're video and saved myself 12 hours!!! Ty so much!!!
I have never seen any bass fishing video where the presenter demonstrated their knowledge of the fish like this. Congratulations on doing your research well. It always amazes me how many people who are so active in various sports know so little about the details. Examples of lack of knowledge: golfers - type of grass they play on, or how to properly swing a club; bowlers - weight of pins, oil patterns on the lanes, ball materials; baseball - basically all the rules; etc.
Great rundown! If anyone needs more info than that, they aren't thinking like a bass! Hire a guide if you really need to know more than what you can observe to start your day.
Fantastic video, I've gotta send this to my buddies that are just starting out. He'll there were a few things I didn't know and I've been fishing my whole life.
This was probably the best all inclusive “generally speaking” video on bass behavior & bass fishing I’ve ever seen. If only I had seen it years ago. 🤣. Seriously, great video with great graphics. Very well done.
A lot of great information in this video, all broken down to beginner terms as well. Even with these tips they’re still in a broad sense. Bass fishing can be very difficult if you don’t know your waters. In calm conditions bass could feed on loud lures because they’re aggressive, you never know. Only way to know is to get out there and fish 🎣
That was simple, direct, informative, and awesome! And you mentioned milfoil, which no one else EVER does, and which we are smothered in up here in NH. So thanks for that, too!
Love the video man! I have always struggled to teach my buddies the basics of bass fishing because there is just so much information! Now I’ll just show em this video!
If anyone of the video channels that I watch had put this information together like this a year ago, I might be on the Pro Circuit by now. How great this is for making the picture complete, and it is complete by you not trying to sell me some product that you are sponsored by. Thank you much!

I don’t particularly fish for bass but I notice some of these same rules apply for my favorite type of fishing, Carp Angling. I thought you would talk about Peacock bass! Michigander here but I wanna visit Florida just for Peacocks
Great video! I was puzzled by an obvious (to me) omission in the smally identification. Don’t they all have red eyes? Is this regional? To me kinda like the white tail spot on a walleye but not a sauger.
Wow, this is so well done. A tremendous amount of valuable info is clearly presented. I learned a lot and I thought I knew a lot about bass. Thank you.
Thanks for watching Chuck
absolutely GREAT video, you gave this newcomer some confidence with this.
I think some of this can also be applied to other species as well who are more predatory by nature, great info
Stripped bass are my favorite. They get massive and fight harder than any other freshwater fish.
This was a great breakdown, very informative! Subscribing to your channel has really helped me along my angling journey. Thanks for the awesome content!
There is nothing like feeling that thump...thump ..setting hook on a 5iber.
Great video especially for beginners. Tyler thanks for taking time to make these informative videos.
Such a great and informative video. Definitely going to apply this more to my fishing
