I built the house with the end game to go solar and be completely energy independent, but didn't plan to do it for at least a few more years. The sudden increase in the cost of electricity was what pushed us to do it sooner. Eversource literally doubled the cost overnight. Its still early, but it definitely saved us money this summer cooling the house. Also, the monthly loan payments are nearly half what we'd be paying in electricity each month.. so I feel like its definitely worth it in our situation.
