Interesting, I just bought a 2024 RTL and I noticed they changed the mpg estimates and my 2019 RTL E was averaging 29 to 31 depending on traffic doing round trip 200 miles from Orlando to Clearwater every couple weeks. Good video
I have a Trailsport and Honda says 23 mpg highway and I did a trip from MA to upstate NY and got 27+ mpg with the ac on the entire ride, then MA to Laconia and I got 26+ but I was doing 80 ish with the ac on. Definitely better than my Tacoma used to get and a lot more comfortable ride.
Good milage review. My 2017 RL MPG gauge is far from accurate usually off between 2 - 3 mpg. Glad Honda has fixed this issue. My 2017 RL gets similar mileage in warm weather but can drop off substantially in northern Michigan winters because of longer warm-up and heavier soft rubber snow tires. Was planning to get a newer RL but my 2017 drives like new so I'll probably keep it as their are few advantages to replacing it with a new one and insurance costs are lower. Winter is nearing and where the Ridgeline shines, if you ask me. Enjoy your RL!
This pickup truck actually might be good for a tradesman. It has a huge trunk in the bed for tools. I might look into one. The huge grills on pickups trucks these days are silly. Nothing like a wall for a grill going down the highway. Its like the Saturday Night live skit. I need More Grill.😬😅
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Useful information. I am surprised that the "estimated range" was showing around 350 miles. At 26 mpg and a 19.5 gallon fuel tank, estimated should be 500 miles.
I "think" the estimated fuel range is calculated based on life-time driving habits. In the 6000+ miles I've driven over the past 3.5 months.. most of it has been urban/city driving (Boston area).. and I often sit in the truck idling when I'm between work appointments.
One factor I didn't hear you mention is whether you did the return trip with the tonneau cover closed or open? The To trip had some wind drag due to the refrigerator. The tonneau cover would have helped reduce some drag on the Return trip if closed. If it was open it was probably a closer apples to apples test. With my truck empty and with OEM Honda tonneau cover closed, I've gotten as high as 29 mpg on the highway. Mine is a 23 RTL. Thanks for doing this real- world test.
Good points. On the initial trip, I ended up stopping about a mile into the trip to move the refrigerator to the front of the bed against the rear window. It didn’t look like a good spot against the tailgate. On the return trip home, the truck was completely empty and the tonneau cover was closed.
@randomstuffwithjoe ah now your reply is showing. Yeah the 26MPG is nice. Probably going to pick up a 2025 RTL myself. No reason to replace my car yet but I'd love a Ridgeline.
Thx for watching. I thought this topic might be useful for some folks who are considering this particular truck. My father in law has a GMC Canyon and he drove my Ridgeline and liked it better.
So my 2010 Honda Ridgeline average is about 24 to 25 mpg on the highway. Mine only has a five speed automatic so they haven’t really improve fuel mileage all that much with all the new tech. I could probably do better on fuel mileage, but I run snow tires on it all year round
fyi on the BE Ridgeline blind spot monitoring does not work below 20mph so, be careful on your slow merges.. adaptive cruise control is not stop and go and does not work below 25mph. the front parking sensors is only one sensor in each corner, it wont detect a parkiing pole or smaller cars.. the vented seats are not that powerful even on high mode. the passenger seat does not have height adjustment. it doesnt have hill descent control. i have a 24 BE so i know now about this stuff
Love my Honda Pilot , which is about as close as you can get to the Ridgeline. I'm thinking about a Ridgeline but not really sure. The reason I'm commenting however, is your decision to pump more fuel after the pump automatically stops. I did that on my ex Silverado and ended up ruining the fuel Guage and eventually the fuel pump failed. Very expensive repair , and the reason they gave me at the Chevy dealer was topping the tank off. Just an FYI. By the way, I agree with the Cybertruck comment. I thought it was silly looking. Oh, my Pilot gets 31 mpg average summer and winter
I’ve never heard of anyone having issues with topping off the tank. But I don’t usually do it anyway. I mostly only did it for the purpose of making this video. But thx for that info. I’ll be more mindful of it now.
@@randomstuffwithjoeyeah it’s true, completely filling like we did in the old days to check mpg hurts the new vehicles. It gets fuel into the evaporative system and messes things up.
I bought my fifth motorcycle from Charlie M. at Millis Cycle 25 years ago. I recognized that road instantly. It looks pretty much the same as I remember it. Szechuan Garden closed?!?!
Ha.. yes, Szechuan Garden is closed. They opened a new place about a year ago in the same location tho. I'm fairly new to the area tho, we purchased the land 4 years ago and build a new home and moved in 3 years ago. My wife is from Holliston tho.. so she's more familiar. I'm originally from Hyde Park.
Thx for watching. I don't normally do the top-off thing. I only did it for the purpose of this video so I could get the most accurate MPG test possible.
The cybertruck looks futuristic but it is ugly. There are quite a few used ones for sale already, plus I've heard they've been having lots of problems with them. re: packing your truck, I would think it would be better if you had put the refrig closer to the cab for better airflow, but it looks like you got great gas mileage anyway, so probably made no difference.
@@randomstuffwithjoe I guess I missed that in the video. It makes sense. (I almost lost a clothes dryer when I packed it near the tailgate, it almost blew out of the truck due to the wind, but a refrig is so much more heavy so that wouldn't have been an issue in your case.)
Interesting, I'm considering buy one and really appreciate your findings, thanks much and keep the videos coming.
Thanks for watching!
Verifies my experience. Thanks for actually doing the formal measurements.

Considering my v8 Silverado was only getting about 18 mpgs on this same trip.. I’m pretty happy with 26+ mpgs on the Ridgeline. Thx for watching.
You shouldn’t top off your gas tank.
Thanks for another informative video.
Like your stuff Joe.
I like the ability in settings to automatically reset the trip odometer to 0 after a fuel fill up.

It would be a good truck for tradesmen for sure. The trunk space in the bed is a big plus.

Nice looking house!
Thx for noticing. We built it a few years ago. A lot of hard work went into it so I appreciate the compliment.
We have a few cybertrucks around here. Definitely hideous.

Exactly what I average on the highway with my 2022 Honda Ridgeline.
Perfect example of what the trucks purpose is , I want to buy one once my Colorado dies

Why wait? Sell the Colorado. Get the good stuff.
26.5 to 28.5 on highway here, depending on wind it seems😅. 2024 Sport.
Beats the heck out of the 15 mpg on my old F150 5.4L Triton!
@@MikeRakowski My old Silverado 1500 was only getting 14-15 mpg also in the city. Maybe 17 MPG on longer highway trips.

Urban country road??? You mean rural country road?
OMG.. did I say that? 🤣
Yes, I meant rural..
Is this with a VCM disabler installed? Cylinder deactivation
No. This is completely stock. I did shut off the auto start/stop at the button tho.
