Thank you, very helpful. Think will give the Bob a go. I never have the patience to bother with rise adjustments etc…I get all in a kerfuffle and give up!
I’m a fan of the style arc patterns, the fit is always good on me. I read the instructions and then add my own notes - reminding me to finish seams? understitch? Etc. I constructed the Bob pants using my regular method of inserting elastic, but will follow your lead on the pockets for my next pair 😊
Hi Paula. Thanks for your comment. I really like the style of the patterns and I will definitely buy more of them. It’s a good idea to make notes and to read the instructions first. I must get better at that! I’m so keen to start once I’ve cut the out and made adjustments that I always forget. So do you sew first then insert elastic or do it as per the pattern? Would be interested to know. I appreciate your time in watching my vlog. I hope you have a lovely weekend.😍
This is the first time I saw a video from you and have now subscribed. I just cut out the Bob pants, and had already changed the pocket shape to extend to the waistline. This has been very interesting to watch, and your experience re the waistband has been echoed by others. I will do it the old fashioned way Thanks for a fun video.
Hi Nancy. Thanks for watching, subscribing and commenting - I really appreciate it. I’m pleased you found the vlog interesting. Happy sewing your bobs! I hope you love them - the pockets make a big difference attached to the waist seam. 👍💖
Great vlog. I have made both and prefer the Barry pants. I felt the bobs were a bit too full in the leg for my taste, shape and height. I agree stylearc is for the confident sewer but the sense of achievement I get when I have to use my sewing brain, to work out what to do, is worth it.
Hi Caro. Thanks for watching. Interesting to hear your preference for the Barrys and why, so I appreciate you commenting. I agree - it was satisfying to figure it out in the end! It’s like a puzzle! Hope you have a great day. 😍
New subscriber. I just bought the Ethel and Bob pants. I love that you made them in the same fabrics so you can truly compare. I plan to buy the Barry too very soon.
I love Style Arc, I was sewing the Erin culottes when your video came up in my sewing playlist! This was a great comparison video, I've been looking at both for a while but I think Bob might be my favourite. I've sometimes found help on TH-cam for pattern instructions I was stuck on and Style Arc has tutorials on their own channel - they've also given me help by email in the past. My two favourite patterns are the Adeline dress and the Teddy tunic top. I like the way the instructions give you freedom to do things your own way, and you're quite right, once you've made a pair of trousers or even pyjama pants the mystery is gone and the style arc pants seem quite straightforward (I'm a big fan of their pants patterns for Bengaline). I was scratching my head for a while today though to figure out the overlapping box pleats!
Hi Kate. Thanks so much for your comment and lovely feedback. I like them both but now I’ve had a chance to wear them I think I prefer the Barrys. Good to hear that Style Arc are helpful when you get in touch and provide tutorials, as I think that is useful for beginners. And I appreciate you sharing your favourite patterns with me as I’m interested in sewing a dress of theirs and I’ll check out the Adeline. I hope you’re having a lovely weekend. Happy sewing! 😍
Hi Melissa. Oh, wow! Are you tempted by the Barrys? I think the bobs will work better in a less stiff fabric than I used so will make them again in a lighter/less stiff fabric next time! 👍😃
I’m on the fence too. Not sure which one I like the best. I’m going to wait for your review on which one you reach for the most. I have never sewn a style arc pattern so thanks for your in depth review. Have a great day. Val ❤️🇨🇦🇬🇧
Hi Val. Thanks so much for watching. Glad you found it helpful. I’ve shown my husband and he prefers the Bobs, so I might wear them more. We’ll see! I hope you have a great day too. 💖
Great review and very interested in how to modify the Bob pockets. Can you link to the podcasts you mentioned that were helpful to you in modifying them to attach to waist band? TY!
I love the fit of Style Arc patterns, but definitely always have to do a practice run. I’ve been thinking of making the Bob pants, so love that you reviewed them!
Hiya. Thanks for watching. I was impressed with both pants and I’ll definitely look out for more of their patterns. I hope you found the review helpful. Good luck with yours! 💖
Have made Bob and Barry. Not sure if it is because I have chunky calves, but the hem of the Barry often stays on the widest part of my calf after I stand up. Love both of them!
Hi there! Thank you for your comment. They are great patterns. I have proportionally bigger calves and ankles too. 👍 I widened the opening at the bottom and that worked well. ☺️ ❤️
I don’t have either of these patterns but have admired the many versions that have been posted. I do love the designs SA offers but yes, their instructions and help are sadly lacking. I believe that Whitney from Tomkat Stitchery will be doing some sew alongs. FYI, when you purchase a ‘single size ‘ pattern you also receive the size above and below. Thanks for your review🙂
Hi Donna. Thanks so much for your comment. That is really helpful to know about the single size! I wasn’t aware and I’d definitely purchase in that case. Whitney does fantastic tutorials so that would be great. If you give either a try, I hope you like them. Thanks again and I hope you have a lovely day. Best wishes, Nadia 💖
it would have been nice to see photos or clips at the end of the two side by side to see the full comparison. let us know which one you prefer in the end!
Hi I have recently made two pairs of the Barry pants and couldn't find any instructions till I was nearly finished the second pair. I love them but they do look much wider in the leg than yours. Thanks for your review I will check out your other video's.
Hi Jo-Anne. I’m very impressed you made them without the instructions! That’s interesting! My legs are pretty curvy/athletic so maybe my legs fill them more?! I know the same pattern can look very different on people depending on their size and shape and the material they use. Thanks for watching! 💜
I really appreciated watching this while making. I hadn’t heard about zig zag for the waistband. I don’t like the frilly top of the Barry’s either. I’ll try the other pockets next time. Other than the waistband, I thought following the numerical list and the diagrams together was a struggle but I did it. I’m probably an advanced beginner sewist.Thank you!
Hi Esther. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I really appreciate your feedback and it’s good to know how you found the pattern. Well done on completing yours - I hope you like them! Happy sewing! 😀❤️
I love my Barry pants. It was tough to get them to fit me. I put on a yoga waistband for comfort. As for a fly. I don't need any such thing. I will stick with the Barry.
Hi. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts on the Barry pants. I definitely prefer them to the bobs now I’ve worn them both a few times. A yoga waistband is a great idea! 👍
Hi Michelle. Thanks for letting me know about the tutorials -that’s good to know. I really enjoyed making them both and they definitely won’t be the last. I appreciate your feedback. 😍
That is so unfortunate that style arc has such poorly written directions. As I find their patterns to be so well drafted and they are most always styles that I want to wear.
Hi Nancy. It’s unfortunate but I agree with what you say about the drafting so worth persevering and it definitely hasn’t put me off buying more of their patterns! 😀 Thanks for watching and commenting. 😍
Thanks for this. It would be nice to end with the two clips of you in the garden side by side to see how the styles differ.
Thank you for the feedback! 😊
Thank you, very helpful. Think will give the Bob a go. I never have the patience to bother with rise adjustments etc…I get all in a kerfuffle and give up!
Another lovely vlog,, I take all the good bits from each pattern and sort of hank them into a perfect pants.. thank you for taking the time to share.
Hi Debra. Your comment was so lovely to read - thanks very much! That’s the beauty of making clothes, isn’t it? We have the best hobby! 💖

Hiya! Thanks so much for watching and your kind comment. I’ve literally just made another pair of the bobs and I love them! 😃

I have made about 4 Bob trousers and want to make another today 😬 The pattern is very straight forward, easy make, highly recommend

If you put in the search bar 'inside the hem side seam pockets waist' it'll come up! I just had the same thought

Try the Picasso Pants pattern by Sewingman. Great fit!

I like the Barry. I put a plain waistband on them.
The barrys rock! I’ve put a plain waistband on them too. Thanks for watching. ❤️😃

Style arc do sewing tutorials on TH-cam hun. The Barry pants look good on you

I love the style arc patterns. However if you are a beginning sewist, the instructions/diagrams are not friendly!
Hi. Thanks for watching and commenting. Definitely! They do have lovely patterns so it’s such a shame that they are not more accessible to beginners.
