    Hello, you may not be a regular viewer of my channel as this is not the normal video I upload. I am not a professional seamstress, I started making this video for a friend but then decided to share it publicly. Please be kind if you have any constructive advice. In fact I welcome advice and hints and tips if you have any.

    :: Until the 30th April 2023 all money raised through this YT channel went directly to my sons previous special needs school. From May onward I will support the school in a different way that’s less sporadic through the help of Patreon
    My son, Bill, goes to gorgeous, tiny, little special needs school for gorgeous special children. Bill and his friends there all need just a little more care, attention, love and guidance to help them access friendships and education. Bill has autism (and a variety of other issues such as Sensory Processing Disorder, ADD, Dyspraxia, Global Developmental Delay and Klinefelters Syndrome) and most of his school mates have similar challenges as well as Dyslexia across the board. Bill's school is woefully underfunded for a variety of reasons that would take pages of text to explain. The teachers aren't well paid yet they are constantly buying supplies the children need that most pupils don't require; such as pen grips and fiddle toys to aid concentration etc...I have been fundraising for a few years now and with your help have managed to help subsidise school trips, buy sensory room equipment, Occupational Therapy equipment, outdoor tables and chairs, a trampoline...and a mini bus!! # billsspecialbus 🤩 We have a lot to pay for as the school moved premises and took on more pupils. This is all amazing news but means the pressure is on financially. All this fundraising helps a phenomenal school that has given so many children a future they would not have been able to access. Thank you so much for any kind of support you give us.

    I totally agree. I have been sewing for 60 years. Wanted an easy summer loose dress. I should have ignored the dress instructions. They were so complicated in particular putting pockets in. Mind boggling 😅😅 I lined the top using the burrito method and it’s a lovely clean finish.
    Thankyou for your clear instructions. 😊😊😊 went back to my own method for pockets. 😆😆😍

    Thank you, really enjoyed this video by a normal person! I got this pattern a few weeks ago and am about to cut it out shortly. I had already decided not to do a lined bodice so your tip regarding French seams is really good. I'm only 5'1" so the skirt will be way too long for me but I think it's going to be a really useful dress. First attempt will be in a slightly stretchy jersey/type fabric. 😀Love the dogs and husband interruptions!

      @@stellalewis2403 I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and found value in it. Mostly I love that you enjoyed the interruptions because if I were to try to do a video that was just about dressmaking I’d never manage it because I am always interrupted and things take me days to do too. I tried to make this dress but wasn’t t very successful. Tried 3 times to put the lining in the top but couldn’t make head nor tail of it. I eventually gave up and made some facings. I found the top wasn’t long enough and the it was a bit tight. I threw it in the ‘naughty corner’ until I regained some patience with it. You’ve inspired me to have another go at it. Really enjoyed the video and please do some more sewing! Thanks.

    • @talesfromcuckooland
      @talesfromcuckooland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it can be a difficult fit around the arm holes for some. There’s not a lot of tailoring so possibly a fabric with some stretch is the way forward. I’m going to try with some viscose jersey one day. X

I thought making a second dress (18 months later), I would recall what I did first time around, but the neck and armholes - I really struggled. So your video is a lifesaver. Thank you! Now I have to deal with the skirt (and I forgot to cut 2 on the fold, so I have just about managed to retrieve enough fabric for the second side of the skirt - but its shorter, so some cutting to do!). @@talesfromcuckooland yes, I just loved the fabrics and designs of my "Crazy Horse" midi skirts, so turned 3 of them all into sleeveless peppermint peplum tops but it was the neck and arm interfacings that gave me a bit of frustration until I viewed your neck and arm application. I've rumaged through an old chest full of fabric and I'm going to make myself a skirt or dress this weekend now you've inspired me. Your whole outfit is so cute, dress, blouse and headscarf, its a winning combo. Hope the boys are all better, there are so many nasty coughs and colds going about but hopefully that will improve if and when the weather warms up. Any chance of a tutorial on the rope baskets ? Your grey linen version of this dress looks gorgeous. I’ve made this pattern 3 times. The first test one I made with bias binding and then once I’d got that sorted, I managed to do the lined one with some undyed linen. I decided to make the second one a size bigger in the hope that the grown on sleeves wouldn’t cut into my arms so much when I move but they still did so my third one is in jersey fabric and it’s the only one I can wear because of the sleeves hurting my biceps when I move. I don’t know what adjustment I’d need to make for this so I decided to use a stretch fabric instead.

    • @talesfromcuckooland
      @talesfromcuckooland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      How frustrating. Maybe the sleeve comes down too far on your arm. Or the armhole needs to be bigger. Or perhaps you need a wider back panel. I’m not really sure of how to mend fit issues. I have a deep chest so I struggle with neck lines.
