She reminds me so much of me in my younger years. Fortunately, through meditation and years of working with therapist and coaches I’ve calmed down significantly. It was challenging to watch, I’ll be honest. I get it though…She is hyper focused on her own inner healing and this is why I believe she continually brings it back to herself.

I do exactly what she does. You're excited with a conversation so you interrupt. Especially when you feel they're talking too slow and not getting to the point quick enough. You notice it in others right away but don't notice it with yourself right away.

Dr. Amen, you’re describing my childhood. (Your wife’s childhood)
    I have ADD.
Went to school to age 13.
I’m quite intelligent I have to admit and I can’t be modest right now. 🙈
Now I can study. I love to study but on my own.
I’m a therapist now, actually a coach. But I help people heal and empower them.
Without the broken home and without ADD, I would have gone to university.
    Now I’m 56. I don’t want university.
Because I have created my own succes.
I am specialized in personality disorders and trauma.
It’s unbelievable how life can happen!

If she can’t accept or discuss her own ADD without such denial , why would I take a course ON THIS SUBJECT from her. She is Not helping. A D or F…it never got better. Years later became an engineer and had a very successful career but 3 failed marriages. … when I was 40 was diagnosed with Asperger’s. Due to cough syncopy had lots of head trauma. Now at 65 am having more problems with impulse control . Exercise helps but haven’t found anything that helps more. it’s like ok, I have so much “good” mental focus, I won’t waste it on the cabinet door because that is a low hanging fruit task that can be done when its more convenient to add it into another task, and save the good juice for handling more difficult tasks, it is like an auto pilot “battery saving” mode that the ADD brain does, without being asked to do so.

I wish she was scared of him and she might be quiet for long enough so we hear the wisdom that is clearly here. She is not a great advertisement for skills you can (and need to) learn if you have ADHD. I used to interrupt like she did until I was taught boundaries. Can neither of you see Tana has not had boundaries set on her interrupting behaviour. Maybe if she’s an anxious type she’s playing up for the camera because her ‘scariness’ is her way of coping.

No, “all of us” do not have “ADHD moments” and a heads-up, most neurodiverse people I know find that type of comment off-putting as it is trivializing. That would be like saying, “Oh, I have MS moments” referring to tripping on something. Please don’t use disabilities as a means to describe non-disabled people’s non-disabling traits. He clarified that, but I want you to know from the neurodiverse community’s common take on those comments, me included.

  • @spinnettdesigns

    Thank you, thank you!
I realized mine with our sons diagnosis, exactly as you said.
I hate interrupting people and being late. I’m 61 and still fight it. I don’t like drugs and they don’t agree with me but now I see why my body live rhodiola, ginseng and L-tyrosine. I need to get back on them ASAP.
I’ve learned lots of great coping skills, I’m a much better listener but I still need improvement. It makes me feel better to think that I’m not just a rude person but having impulse control which makes me sad. But this isn’t hopelessness on my part at all. I was married to an ISTJ (I’m an ENFP) and he taught me SO much about time management and organization. I’m so grateful. Im different in that I despise drama and fighting and perhaps because I’m a middle child as well, but I work for peace. I don’t do the typical “shocking” things, I’m very empathetic and respectful. One thing that really helped me was realizing that I wanted to respect those around me and though I have my own weaknesses, my desire to be a cooperative and functioning member of my “group”…
I’m definitely not a classic case and have a complex personality (in a good way) with a little of all of these so it’s been harder to pin down what was amiss but I’ve finally gotten to understand myself better. I take all of the supplements that you mentioned (5HTP,tyrosine,rhodiola,ginseng) and figured out that my body suffers if I don’t have a little (organic/raw) dairy and carbs. I’d so like to get a brain scan but funds are an issue.
I’ve been able to function well because of getting kind information from the likes of you and applying it in my life! I wish my son could get a brain scan because I think he’s a mix of the rage one…😒
    Thanks again!

I would love someone to cover how information overload with stress affects brain. It can cause ADD/ADHD like symptoms in people who never had this condition.
I know this from my example Boeing engineer/IT person.
In the past 3 years because of massive focus on job and training people tell me they don't recognize me. My therapist told me that I have "fried" my brain.
My GF said I can't even talk to her where we used to have great communication. I am not present and can't memorize anything where I knew our bank cards, acc numbers, passwords, and much more.
When I read top od the page od a book, by the time I am in the middle I already forgot what was the beginning.
I gór depression and anxiety and other days I feel indifferent. Can't literally recognize myself in the mirror. Keep asking myself "who am I?".
I stopped gym to focus on job and career and my testosterone dropped below minimum ref value.
Will be taking off time from work otherwise I will " zero" myself.
    That's not me at all.

I believe my whole family has this because they’re all always picking out what each other does wrong, and we learned from my mother and my father; they both constantly picked out what we were doing wrong, and I being the youngest noticed at all… now I believe one of my sons has it also..

It's true. We'll forget it. Whch would not be an issue, but we will remember it randomly later on and it will drive us crazy that we didn't tell you. So it's easier to just blurt it out right away. Lol

My 9yo son sounds like Jarret 😢
We just drove to the Amen Clinic in Atlanta to have his scans done. To me it looks like he has Over-focused ADD as well as the Ring of Fire. I have OCD myself, and my sons maternal grandpa (my dad) was a drug addict and criminal who died by suicide overdose.
Our results appointment isn’t until June 28th because there is only one child psychologist at the Atlanta Amen Clinic location, but we need help NOW! Is there anything I can do to get a jumpstart on my son’s treatment? Any advice is so greatly appreciated Dr. Amen, thank you so much for what you do. So wonderful to finally have some HOPE after all these years

When a woman has completed 10 books and has a successful career, didn’t really know she was struggling… where is the disorder part? I think that when someone is trying to do things and can’t overcome the struggle is where the disorder comes in. I’m sympathize with her anxiety, but I think she’s lucky to have the focus she does on her interests.

Zebedee Rotten I disagree. She is proof that someone with adhd and anxiety can live a meaningful and successful life. She is lovely and she puts up with issues he has just as much he puts up with issues she has . She is a gracious woman not spouting everything out about him while he does talk about her issues publicly . She is right about him sometimes saying some off the wall things that aren’t necessary or appropriate. I keep up with a lot of their podcasts and videos. We don’t see half of what they deal with and work though together behind the scenes but the point is- they don’t give up and are still together , and because of that, they are a ministry and an example . Two imperfect people are doing their best to love each other and help others with unique and difficult challenges have better lives and relationships too. Both of them appear try to be as real as possible on camera.
That’s a lot . I don’t think Dr. Amen or Tana are unlucky. They are blessed and fortunate .
To each his own with hair style preference btw, if you don’t like it , you don’t like it. You know the saying- one mans trash another mans treasure . She is his treasure, not yours. Obviously for very good reasons .

April Adler I see what you are saying and it’s funny because it used to be the other way around. He’d do all talking and she couldn’t get a word in edgewise . They are trying to work on this I can tell . Maybe it will get better .

I so much enjoyed and learned a lot from Dr. Amen, but unfortunately his wife keep interrupting and deviate the point of conversation. That’s so unfortunate, I just felt he is sharing an amazing clinical research results, but unfortunately it was very hard to follow due to her constant interruption and questions and story telling !

Do some ADD brains make the connection between stimulation and anxiety, creating an anxiety disorder that supplies constant stimulation.
I am finding that as I tackle my anxiety, my ADD seems to become more prominent, that hyperactive energy / jitteriness.
