    Excellent video. I have a 2005 SL500. Will any of the part numbers displayed at 7:34 of the video work or must I disassemble my unit to determine the part number in my command unit and then order it?

    • @IfixmyBenz
      @IfixmyBenz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello ! All the part numbers shown in the video are compatible. There is no need to disassemble your COMAND NTG2 beforehand. You can very well order the replacement screen and then do the repair once you have it.

    Excellent video! Helped me a lot on the process.. any idea why screen after installation seems to be cut off by few millimeters at bottom ? Is there a trick to allign it?

    • @IfixmyBenz
      @IfixmyBenz  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment ! 😉 You're right. The last row of pixels at the bottom is a bit hidden. This is specific to the replacement screens. They are made by SHARP and the last row of pixels is a little bit lower than on the original screen. Frankly, it is not very disturbing. I know that there is another replacement screen that apparently does not have this small imperfection. It is very rare because it is an original screen manufactured by TOSCHIBA for Mercedes and this one is not manufactured anymore. You can find it here: ebay.us/GvdHRl.
      However, it is almost three times more expensive. I have not personally tested it and I don't think the extra cost is worth it... 😉

    Great video as as well as how to remove the unit video.
    My replacement screen has the same issue yours does - in the video when you turn on the new screen, it needs a vertical adjustment. There are 3 adjustment screws on the back - H-POS which is horizontal adjustment, and VCO and VCDC screws. Which one of these 2 screws is for the vertical adjustment? As I have to remove the screws and take it apart every time I make a change I would rather not do trial and error if anyone knows. I did already check that the screen was pushed up as high as it could go.

      @Brian I did not, mine is not bad enough to worry over, but everything else was working fine so I didn't want to take a chance on messing it up after all the trouble I had getting that far.

    That is an excellent instruction video. I for one do not like the command unit. I am installing an android stereo from Seicane. It's designed to look OEM, and it has apple car play as well. It plays DVD's, mirrior link, GPS, phone, and everything your cell phone has. I have a 2009 SL550.

    Pretty useful video! Thank you! I think SL vehicles suffer from the sun more than other Benzes. This screen and also the two small screens in the cluster don't like sun. BTW I wonder how difficult is it to convert NTG1 to NTG2.5? I have CLS W219 with NTG1...

    Excellent tutorial. I followed until I had to loosen the 16 screws on the circuit board and was unable to undo the screws with the T7 Torx driver. No effort could loosen the screws and it felt like the screws would strip if any more pressure was applied.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    • @IfixmyBenz
      @IfixmyBenz  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello ! This is so strange… 🤔 The screws are made of metal and they are screwed into a plastic moulding under the PCB. There is no risk to damage a screw. The only thing that can happen is to damage the thread of the plastic female part when tightening if you tighten too much...
      Note: If you are a beginner in DIY, when unscrewing, do you turn counterclockwise ?
      What you could do is to force to unscrew a single screw to try to figure out what is going on. If you ever damage the plastic female screw thread underneath, it would not matter as there would still be 16 other screws holding the PCB in place. If you manage to remove it, try to screw it back in to make sure it screws properly before removing the other screws. Good luck ! 😉

      @@IfixmyBenz Thanks for your reply, I am also mystified as I have done work on circuit boards before and never had this happen. I feels like the T7 driver is stripping the slots in the screw and I have tried different sizes of the Torx driver but none fir. Also tried small Phillips driver and again with no luck. Am considering to cut a slot in the screw head with a Dremel tool and get one loosened to see what is causing the problem.

    • @kimberlyscoobie3238

      Same issue with removing these bolts. My bolts are the type with the binding teeth on the underside of the bolt head, making them extremely difficult to remove without stripping them out. I was able to remove 12, hearing an audible “click” when they finally come loose, and having to apply a scary amount of downward pressure to do so. I am moving on to trying to use superglue to glue the bit to the screw and see if I can get them out that way. I’m concerned about other difficult screw removal methods if this doesn’t work.

    • @kimberlyscoobie3238
      @kimberlyscoobie3238 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was able to remove the last 5 screws by first using a right hand drill bit just a very small amount very slowly, using a drop of alcohol on it from time to time to keep it cool. Then I used a slightly larger left hand drill bit and 3 of them unscrewed immediately. The last 2 I had to drill entirely through the head and then remove the base of the screw with vise grips after I was able to remove the control board. The new screws are only available in Germany as far as I could find, they are M2.5 8MM 1.45 thread plastics screws.

      @@IfixmyBenz Thank you for your quick response and I know you don’t do this for free…..but, I’ve taken it out before and thought that was the culprit. The plug was slightly out and I snapped it back in. Still no response. Is there a way to check if the unit is receiving power?

    • @IfixmyBenz
      @IfixmyBenz  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeffersonsmith2991 You're welcome. I've never encountered such a problem. It's really strange... The source of the problem may be multiple, and you'll have to look into it. You can first check whether the power supply is present at the connector before blaming the COMAND unit. If this is the case, you'll need to open the COMAND unit. You can remove the front panel, as I do in this video. And look at what's inside (PCB side) at the "ON" button. Check the state of the electronic soldering. An old, cracked solder joint and the contact won't make. Simply re-solder with new tin, and you're back in business. You can also remove the protective sheet metal casing at the rear of the COMAND, which is held in place with Torx screws. And check that there's power inside the COMAND at the connector. In short, it's all about electronics and you have to look for it, a bit like on a broken computer... Good luck ! 😉
