    Sitting at the same table as Johnny & Ricky -- priceless! What an honor. No end crew question? Anyway, love my Transalp, & I agree with you -- the bigger tank goes with the 21" front tire. In my world, a proper ADV bike must have a large fuel tank (or at least long range) & an 18/21 combo for the rear/front wheel sizes.

    Can't believe a Baja legend and some of the great TH-camrs I follow came right through the Redwoods I have called home my whole life! I wish I would have seen you all pass through. Funny how If you are born and raised in the old growth Redwoods you take them for granted. I get more excited about wide open deserts where you can see for miles without trees blocking the view. Thanks for the great content.

    To quote Johnny Campbell: IMPRESSIVE!! It warms my heart that you were selected to be part of the Honda ride. You represent Honda so well with everything you do and deserved the experience. I agree with you about the tire and gas tank. It must be a girlie thing. 🤣 It was also good to see you and Dork in the Road doing something together again. Happy holidays to you and your family.

    Thank you Amanda for sharing this great experience, I would take the 21 inch tire and the larger tank over the smaller ones. I have a 2017 Africa twin DC T that does not have all those things on it. What a beautiful ride through the redwoods it looks like you had a great time. Looking forward to your next video.

    What a fabulous opportunity! And don't for a moment think that you aren't incredible, because you are! I spent a week in the Pacific Northwest in 2013, though in a little hire car (visiting from Australia), and ever since have desperately wanted to go back. Your description of the redwood forests was just perfect. Have a safe and peaceful Christmas.

    Amanda, I have 2022 Adventure Sport DCT also, and a major reason I bought it was the bigger tank and the 21” front wheel. It certainly helped when I rode the Dalton highway to Tuk this past summer, and I was the only one in our group who never had gas station anxiety.

    Very important info about the 21" tire change. And it's a bummer we can't get the bigger wheel with the bigger tank anymore. I think the engineers are flat wrong that you would be the only one who wants a bigger tank. At the very least, I do too 👍🏻

  • @Sasquatch_by_Day
    @Sasquatch_by_Day หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I have the '24 Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES, I bought it specifically because of the 19" front wheel and 6.5gal tank. I tried out a 2019 Africa Twin with the intention of buying it but after I rode it I changed my mind, I didn't care for the handling of the 21" wheel (amongst other things). My riding is primarily long distance touring on the street so the handling of the 19" wheel fits me better, I will still ride it on any dirt road and don't feel it limits me at all in that regard. Heck, my old 2003 HD Night Train probably saw more dirt roads than most ADV bikes on the road today.

    I absolutely go for the big tank + 21"" front wheel. But I'm planing to just order the new adventure and then order a spare 21" front wheel for when I go long gravel trips or for long gravel + B roads trips. I also enjoy cross country trips and I believe the 19" wheel is perfect for that.

    Honestly I do not mind the 19'' front wheel for what I do offroad (gravel and some more packed dirt roads) and honestly find it even better since I can flatfoot it even in uneven terrain quite easily. Gives a lot of confidence. For hard offroad I would not use the AT anyways.
    But anyways, you rock girl, great video!

    I agree with you about the 21. It would be nice if you could pick. Honestly, I think I'd go with the Transalp over the AT. Better power to weight ratio, but you'd have to do a lot of upgrades to get it how I would prefer it. Like tubeless tires and cruise control.
    I never get tired of riding the Oregon Coast.

    Great vid! How waterproof do you find your Rev'it? I just got the Rev'it Pacific 4 H2O bunny suit, but havn't yet gotten to rain test it so I'm curious how it performs in downpours?. I have a 2021 Africa Twin DCT base model, which I thought about trading in on a '24 Adventure Sports version for the tubeless tires and better wind protection, but still undecided. How is it with the 19" front wheel? I too would actually take the 21" front wheel and large gas tank; I mostly ride on the road, but I like the humungous front wheel for the smooth ride and extra stability...

    I'm wondering about the 19 vs 21 front wheel I have ywo bikes with 21"wheels and both are good. My feeling is that a bigger wheel goes through potholes better. I can't tell a difference on the highway. My GL1200 has a 16" front tore but this a completely different bike. Highway cruiser.

    • @AstheMagpieFlies
      @AstheMagpieFlies  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree, the handling off road with a 21" wheel isn't worth sacrificing for the negligible handling improvement on road with a 19" wheel in comparison 🤷 but everyone has an opinion lol

    I also have the 2022 ATAS DCT and strongly prefer its larger wheel and tank. I do mostly multi-day off-road camping trips, and I prefer not to carry extra gas on my already loaded bike, so it's been perfect for my needs. I get having a smaller tank and wheel for a sport version of the bike but not an adventure version.

    Uhoh, just when I decided to NOT trade in my 2023 Transalp for the new 2025 ATAS with ES, tubeless tires, cruise control and other things I would _like_ to have on the TA... You put out a new video...
    I'll still test drive the 2025 ATAS and if I really like it, I'll maybe buy one from stock that they want to sell at the end of next year.

    This was awesome! Did you save the route? I’m planning a similar ride and was curious where it took you

      Unfortunately a good part of the original route had to be scrapped due to weather so I don't have the whole thing. We were supposed to go from Lakewood and take back roads down the Cascades cross at Cascade Locks then down to Sisters where we would have taken the pass over to Eugene.
      So I only have the part where we took back roads to Coos Bay then just followed the PCH to Eureka with a small detour to the Avenue of the Giants.

    Are you wearing the Pacific Rain suit over other Rev It gear? If so how do you size?

    please sell the transalp w/ tubeless wheels!! At least as an option. Also the Africa Twin Adventure at least should come with backlist switches.

    For you : is the transalp easier to ride compared to the AFAS DCT?

      🤔 all bike experience is personal, I would still rather be on the ATAS DCT but that's just me 😊

    21" wheels and the larger tank for the win.

    If the economy and tax structure changes dramatically I would love an Africa Twin. Currently thry are $55,000 in Argentina. Out of my reach. My wife likes the Africa Twin so it would be no fight to buy one if I had the money.

    I’d totally want the big tank big wheel. Really I’d want the non adventure with big tank.

    The Honda engineers were... engineers. Not very smart of course. Being an adventure bike, the extra fuel capacity and larger wheel is great. After several years adventuring on a KLR, (and now a heavily modded KLR) with a sportbike background, the amount that you can push 21/18 rims is amazing. Any manufacturer that runs 19" as inbetweeners, are hoseheads. 19" should honestly be obsolete outside of cruiser bikes. 17" rims can do more offroad than you expect if you plan on taking your streetbike offroad. And 21" will do far better on the road than most realize.

    I didn’t notice any helmet communication devices…?
    That’s always one of the biggest problems when we get a group together, is getting all those devices synced up.

    • @AstheMagpieFlies
      @AstheMagpieFlies  หลายเดือนก่อน

      We were not synced up. The only ones in communication was the lead, sweep and the driver.
      I don't personally enjoy being connected to more than one person on comms while I'm riding , I find it distracting.
      Besides we all had different devices and some of the engineers' English was a little rough.
      We communicated via hand signals the old fashioned way most of the time 😊
