Motorcycle travel tells you a lot about yourself, especially when weather makes every mile a little bit tougher than the one before. I personally detest riding in the rain, but when you've got a place you need to be, and the only way to get there is your bike, you do what you have to do. That being said, nothing helps you assess the issues you have with your bike and gear faster than an all-day ride in bad weather. In the end tho, I've found even the very best gear will eventually be found to have an issue or two when faced with an all-day downpour, and at that point, you find out of you're a fair-weather rider or a true motorcycle adventurer. Knowing what you want, and being flexable in your route and timing make all the difference, and it's only when things get tough on the road do you learn how to plan your next trip with this knowlege in mind.

Option #3 please - I like all critters. If I had to choose between cats and dogs I chose cats. They are independent and I like that. They call the shots, I can relate. Dogs are lovable and I like that too.
As always, your vid is wonderful. All that rain and I love how you embraced the positives of riding in the rain.

I really appreciate you filming the actual setting up and tearing down of camp. I overthink a lot which steals time from enjoying stuff. You going through the motions and especially the drying gear part was great.

Man, you're such a trooper. I've been pushing to do more Motocamping on my trips, and I can't imagine having to pack all that stuff up fully wet in the rain, let alone riding for hours afterwards... And then you FILM IT!!! That's over-and-above work...
I'm definitely going to have to start considering HipCamp! I've been seeing some great sites out there from it. KOA cabins will get a second look as well.
    We love MotoCamp Nerd.
I'm enjoying this latest clump of vids! Once again, as usual... A lovely, lovely video filled with amazing images and ambience. I've been really drawn to your editorial and editing style since the very beginning, and they've just been getting subtly better over the years. I aspire to be as fluid and compelling-yet-relaxing in my own work.
We have lizards. Never thought we'd be enamored by scaly things, but they're adorable, affectionate little creatures in their own right... Just have to get to know them.

    Hi Amanda.
For truly waterproof gloves I use kayaking gloves. A pair stays in my panniers for those occasions. A bit hard to put on, especially with wet hands, and not well insulated so the backs of your hands may feel cold, but the heated grips alleviate some of that cold.
    Safe travels.

I appreciate your comments about riding in the rain. I think getting out on a rainy day on two wheels, moto or bicycle, is a great thing to do.. It's a little less convenient to do when you're on a tour, but you get through it and like you do, find the silver lining. Ride on!

Rain is part of adventure riding but, when I am home and it's raining I stay in. Let's face it rain makes it hard and cold.
Now at 63 of age cold has become the enemy to my bones. Decreases my mobility to the point it can be unsafe for me to ride.
That said, my most cherished Memorie was at Devils Tower KOA, back in September of 21, it was lightly raining but I watched Close Encounters on their outdoor TV.
Thunder and lightning started halfway through the movie and the remainder of the night flashing behind and all-around Devils Tower.
I do not have the words to express how beyond awesome that experience was.
Animal person here. We always have had dogs with us, some cats, tropical fish, horses and mules. They are family members not owned by us.

Nice to see some of my old stomping grounds along your ride. Spent a lot of time in that area of Adrian and roads east from there. Definitely come back and experience what Michigan has to offer. The west coast up towards Traverse City is a great ride. You can't go wrong with anything on the Upper Peninsula, my preference is the Copper Harbor area. I know the chances are small, but if you find yourself in the area around Frankenmuth Michigan and need anything, please feel free to reach out.

Cat person 100% I won't disrespect your dog but they just are not my favorite. I go up to Seattle from time to time and they have some toll bridges and some weird toll lanes that I don't understand really but if you go on a toll bridge they just send you a bill basically and you pay it. I works for me. I have also figured out how to program AVOID toll roads into my phone when I go to Florida for the weirdo campout which helps me avoid the tolls and the rental company grift for their convenience fee to avoid the tolls :)

There is nothing to help you find any weaknesses in your set up like inclement weather. While none of us like it, it should be a mandatory par of your riding. I purposely subjected myself to a hard downpour on my last trip. Not because I liked riding in it. But because sooner or later you will have to do it not by choice.
I found a gap had opened in the seam of my riding boot that proved to soak me to the skin of my foot. It sucked. But I was happy to have found out voluntarily.
I also found out just how dry you can stay based on your speed and gear adjustments.
Whether you know it or not Amanda, you do inspire.

I traveled through New England in the summer of 2023 and the toll situation was frustrating because it seems antiquated and inconvenient to have to stop and pay cash. I appreciated the toll roads that simply scanned my license plate and sent me a bill.
I used to think I was a dog person, but then we got a kitten a few months ago for my son. I guess I’m just an animal person. However, because I made a big deal about not wanting a cat, I can’t admit to my wife and kids that I kind of like the cat.

Yup - I can identify with at least two annoyances: Trying to put wet hands into motorcycle gloves can truly be a pain. Aren't any of the gear manufacturers capable of making liners that don't bunch up and stick to one's skin? Maybe that's an opportunity to do an extensive review on cold-weather, water-proof gloves. 🙂
I can also identify with trying to get to sleep in a motel room. Sometimes the accommodations don't feature the most comfy of beds, and the noises from other moteling clients have kept me awake or awakened me in the wee hours. Normally I'm up late downloading megabytes to gigabytes worth of video clips and organizing files from different cameras. However, on a trip like that one, a hot shower and a decent meal can revive the will to ride on! LOL

Great video! I don't much like riding in the rain, but I'll have to agree that the worst part is the whole putting gloves on wet hands thing. The right gear can usually keep you from getting wet but eventually you end up taking gloves off for fuel or food and putting them back on is infuriating

Lived and road in Boston for a few years - I kept the ezpass transponder in the map pouch of my tank bag. Worked fine, but of course you’d need to figure out a tank bag on the new bike. The ezpass readers are mounted rather high, so generally anything facing up or forward should work, so maybe a tail bag would also work.

I use Ice Armor gauntlet gloves for riding in cold, wet weather. They're designed for ice fishing. Tough construction, totally waterproof, and easy on-off with wet hands. Also a fraction of the cost for "motorcycle" gloves.

I'm glad they work for you!
I will note though that motorcycle gloves cost as much as they do because they are tested for abrasion resistance in case of a crash on pavement ☺️👍 so personally, I'll stick with my motorcycle gloves.

I’m an animal person but partial to dogs, raccoons, and cows. My family does have 5 cats though…

      Where?
The Hipcamps or the KOA? lol
The Michigan Hipcamp had a portable toilet a short walk from my tent site
The Ohio Hipcamp I don't remember tbh
KOA Camping cabins don't have bathrooms but there's always multiple bathrooms at all the KOAs I've been to one near the office, and one in the back half of the lot that also has the showers and laundry.

Una domanda: negli Stati Uniti il "camping libero" e' permesso?
In Europa in alcuni stati si in alcuni no.
