I lost 200 pounds intermittent fasting about 10 years ago. I posted my before and afters to facebook and got banned from diet groups for it. I posted those results on Reddit recently and almost got 5k upvotes. Times are changing and it's good to see.

You got banned because intermittent fasting is a threat to the healthcare and diet industry’s bottom line , it’s flexible you can eat and enjoy whatever you want during your feeding window and still lose weight , it’s sustainable unlike diets and above all it’s free so you being banned is one of the ways big pharma is going to do to silence you and you can believe they’re going to push all kinds of studies to demonize intermittent fasting they’re just looking out for their own bottom line .
I’ve lost 77 pounds In 9 months doing it and I’ve had miraculous improvements in my health and I’ve seen many others doing it with equal and greater success but congrats on your progress keep up the good work .

    • @amydegan
      @amydegan ปีที่แล้ว +10

@@heidiroy-boy well, a major percentage of the US is obese. With all the fast food and additives added to food, our eating habits are one of the worst in the world. If one grows up being fed this diet, it's very easy to get grossly overweight. We have to be more diligent about it than other countries that have more healthy, clean foods.

I wasn't looking forward to spending an hour with Thomas DeLauer. But here he's quite personable because he's not a policy wonk who's throwing out $10 college words that he pulled out of a Gray's Anatomy textbook. It's a testament to how awesome his channel is that I haven't cancelled my subscription. Thomas has changed my life. I've lost more than 100 lbs. last year. My BP was 128/83 at my last doctor's visit. And I'm no longer prediabetic, etc. Also, I love hearing his story about walking to his favorite doughnut shop. Since I started IF like 13 years ago, I lose fat more easily since I have a small windows to eat my calories, and still enjoy the foods I love (Although one's still can gain fat if eating in a calorie surplus), never felt hunger again, never felt a decrease in focus and energy again, never constipated again, never had acne again, my blood marks are outstanding, I can work the whole day without focusing that I have to eat, especially for people who lose a lot of time eating several times per day, and there are way more benefits.

I, like every other trainer, can only go off of what science is telling us at the time (along with our anecdotal experience such as how I ALWAYS recommended high quality eggs regardless of what docs said). I've been doing IF for over four years. And tbh, I eat in the evening. I got family friends and whatnot and do much more in the evenings. So eating late works for me. I've had tremendous success. As much as I'd love to eat early, it's difficult for me. So I do evenings. However, I've been fasting less during the week. Throwing in a 22-24 couple times a week. Love doing diet experiments too. It was because of Tomas's challenges that I discovered I have a dairy & gluten allergy. No more knee pain. I'm grateful for the fasting advice. I was fasting today, but I have a cold, so I'm some soup now. I really love getting to know my body. It's fun.
4 yrs ago I was 240 and lost 50 lbs doing 3 different diets one after the other (a 5- 100 cal meals a day & low calorie high protein dinner (I started getting sick), the switch to keto, and then carnivore). Then I tried the std (gluten & dairy free) gained back some weight with the carbs back in. Tried being a vegetarian (lost weight and a lot of hair). Tried other things and got back up to 220 labs... this fall I went back to Keto-carnivor. I've just recently added in fat fasting. and I'm down to 182 lbs and feeling so good. I'm only 5'-3", so I still have a ways to go, but really enjoying the journey.
Also, recently added in the gym. I was only walking & occasionally lifting weights before, but now it's more regular. It's really helped me boost my mood even happier and improving focus.

Fasting is the body‘s natural way of cleansing itself, nothing on the planet eats every day, and the top goal, which is a survival mechanism organically speaking we have been out of the cave for 25,000 years approximately maybe more, in the last 10,000 years we managed to put ourselves on schedules allow corporations to decide what we eat when we eat, and we do it all by the clock( time does not exist, clocks do). you look at the clock and automatically decide it’s time for breakfast, or lunch, or dinner! We don’t need to eat that much which in turn would save the soil, keep people healthier and would be beneficial economically as well, just saying

Ultimately being obsessive about keto to the point protein is neglected, is one of the most common mistakes many made. I now prioritise protein when I eat, and my diet is more about low carb than high fat above everything else. The nearest to my own personal stack and diet, which I have built up over the years from reviewing research papers and listening to experts, is Bryan Johnson’s “blueprint” protocol. Just a non vegan version.

Research shows that intermittent fasting is not identical to calorie restriction. In studies, when restricted calories are spread across the entire waking period, all benefits of calorie restriction disappear. It turns out that, in studies showing results, calorie restriction is really about intermittent fasting. So, even someone eating massive amounts of calories in a small window will still get the same benefits as someone eating fewer calories, as long as they are following the same pattern of intermittent fasting.

IMF has it drawbacks. Your body will get used to it. When you eat your body will start to store the calories because it knows that you're not going to eat for a while. Fasting is good but you have to change it sometimes so that your body does not adapt to your eating times.

that fasting comes natural when you have high PYY & GLP-1 when on low carb.
in this cases it works very well.
however, when PYY & GLP-1 is low, you cannot apply that fasting because the liver is chewing through all amino acids that it can get and make glucose out of it and cortisol is leaching out amino acids from your lean tissue. and you are "hangry" af.
so fasting is not the healer of that problem. but when you fix this problem, then you can fast easy.
but fixing that PYY/GLP-1 problem is extremely difficult.
i ate almost only cabbage soup with added meat for a week and hunger went down a lot because of the high fiber. so PYY & GLP-1 went up for sure.
but at day 7 after eating that again, somehow i felt something is missing. a kind of hunger. and i ate oat bran with protein powder that was satiating. i don't know why i was craving something with carbs.
maybe the orange soda with artificial sweetener f....d me up. i know already that a coke zero can do that.
i think that sweetener messed with the incretin hormones.
i have to try natural lemon juice with a pinch of salt as a refreshment.

I totally agree about what you said regarding the epigenetics... very little understood so far, and I also believe that there are sensitive phases of imprinting, a first one in the womb, then at 2..3y, next between 12 and 18y maybe, perhaps around 35 to 40y, and finally between 55 and 65. I believe that there you can adjust the set points of the metabolism much much easier.
What you said about the stressors... there is the distinction between eustress and distress, but i do not like those. For me it is more related to "training" and learning, you also emphasize that. From a systems theory perspective, doing always exactly the same thing destroys adaptability completely. The body downregulates potentially available pathways until they virtually disappear. at that point then absolutely everything can kill you. The metabolome is a vast crazily complex network, meaning: it stores information on its own. That immaterial network of relation can : learn. But we have to show it what it can learn. Meaning, for different bodies the same action always will be very different, dependent whether the metabolic network knows or it does not.

You mentioned CGM . As an insulin dependent type II diabetic, I tried a CGM. (FreeStyle Libre2) When comparing the CGM numbers to finger sticks, which I use to determine my pre-meal insulin dosage (along with how glycemic the meal is), I found the deltas between the methods were all over the place. The deltas ranged from -21 to 87. As a result, I decided that the CGM was too inaccurate for me to use; i would run the risk of going hypoglycemic from using too much insulin far to often if I used the CGM numbers.

Using IF occasionally to ensure that you still get the max benefits without diminishing returns is kind of like its own form of insulin resistance. Or in this case: fasting resistance.
Your body will adapt and develop a tolerance, or resistance to fasting just like with insulin or alcohol, so you would have to crank up the dose to get the same benefits due to the diminishing returns.
At least, that's how I understand it when he's talking about using IF occasionally rather than constantly.

With no insulin spikes being hungery is never an issue. As for calories I have never counted them. I weigh my meat, cheeze, fish, before eating and call large eggs 1 oz each. I eat 3 each meal (375 gm). What I eat probally contains 50% or more fat plus protien totaling about 450 grams. Sometimes I feel like a bit more or less, depending on excercise etc. If we listen to the body and are not influenced by sugar addiction, counting calories is not important. It seems like what we are calling the “ketogenic diet” and intermittent fasting, is simply how humans usually lived (normal). Humans were not eating birthday cake flavored popcorn at 11pm, even a few generations ago. 14 hours overnight fasting was also the norm. In addition, everything has much higher carb content through hybridization. Health simply means getting back to fat adaption and avoiding the modern diet.

The comment about the blue zone diet is always misinterpreted. People in the blue zone typically eat 15% less calories than people in other locations. For example if the average person in other locations eats 2000 calories a day for the entirety of their life a person in the blue zone eats 1700 calories a day for the entirety of their life.
Calorie restriction studies are also misinterpreted. The majority of calorie restriction studies do no indicate that the benefit of calorie restriction are from constantly being in a deficit based on your constantly adapted metabolic rate. Like the blue zone diet the benefits from calorie restriction come from adapting the body to utilise less calories (slower metabolism). This is difficult for most people to try and sustain long term so no one promotes this idea.
