    The best thing that Episode Aigis did was get people to finally understand how and why Yukari acted the way she did in The Answer. The same people that hated Yukari's actions in The Answer now WANT her to express her real ugly and raw emotions because they've been nutured in Episode Aigis.
    Yukari never acted out of character. All we had to do was grow up to realize it.

      A lot of people have already realized this long before Reload was even announced. I would see Yukari rising higher and higher on every poll and constant comments gushing about how she reacted in og Answer. Maybe it's because it resonates with more people now then ever, maybe Covid experiences played a part? Either way it's too little too late and now Atlus thinks we hated it.

      Unfortunately, this came at a price. I think removing the part where she tries to pry the key from Aigis really removes a lot of the emotional impact Yukari had.
      Also, welcome to the club. I never disliked her from the beginning.

    she lost her dad, never found peace afterwards
    met makoto who helped her, finally comforted her, falls in love giving a sense of hope and happiness again..
    then makoto dies
    so it makes ALOT of sense for her to start acting irrationally cause she's back to what she was feeling in the first place twofold.
    so when she isnt given what she wants (a chance to see him again) she finally breaks.
    og had her acting realistically cause she probably feels more lonely than shes ever been. you dont just lose family, then lose your lover soon after and not be affected lol. anyone would start acting batshit crazy, if i was in the same situation, i would be tempted to do the same.
    f**k the world, the earth can go to hell if it means i can see them again.

      I always said that, unlike the rest (not Fuuka) she was the only one to not have had faced resolution from Death, just from being incapable of doing anything about it. Everyone faced death of someone that mattered a lot to them and then face reality of "things are, I am to grow from this." Ken faced this with his mom AND all those imotions went to Shinji, which was the moment he realized what it all means... what was even the point of his purpose if death was all he looked at? For Yukari, it wasn't like that, instead, it was to right the wrongs of the past and move forward... death was just collateral, but now faced with it, she had to go through it again and she collapsed. She hadn't faced this type of death during her resolution.

      @@gamerbeast3616did you forget the part that she's a teenage girl that lost 2 of her loved ones?
      OG Yukari is exactly how I can see a normal teenage girl would react if they've given a chance to go back in time for a slim chance of saving a loved one. It portrayed a person dealing with grief better.
      The Reload version, while isn't bad per se, doesn't portray the scene with much emotion in comparison.

    Overall I think Reload improved on The Answer, when it came to showing the grief all the members of SEES have over Makoto’s death, Mitsuru’s new lines in particular are great. Yukari feels very watered down though. Her new VA really sold her grief during her breakdown scene, but without her trying desperately to snatch the key off Aigis, it loses a lot of its impact.

    Fun Fact: In the Japanese version of P3FES, Chidori wasn't mention at all by Junpei which he is actually referring to Makoto. This was changed in the English version of P3FES which is either a mistranslation or the change was done on purpose. Both the Japanese and English version of Reload opt to removed the part which led to Junpei not mentioning either of them.

    • @nymphia
      @nymphia 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +70

      Probably a mistranslation since depending on your actions, Chidori doesn't die. Sure she's amnesiac and not the same person, but she's still alive. Makoto dying makes sense no matter the outcome, so I'm sad they removed any mention. Makoto being brought back gives a chance for him not to even be the same person, just like Chidori, so I felt that it was important.

    Two differences that I noticed are summarized as follows:
    "This isn't going anywhere, we'll settle this with a duel." in Reload, Yukari acts much more mature, and Mitsuru agrees with her idea.
    "I really want to see him! If you don't agree, I'll take your keys by force!" in Answer, Yukari acts desperately and starts having the idea of resorting to violence to get what she wants. The argument was saved only because Mitsuru mediated the situation by standing with Yukari and acknowledging the need to fight for it.

    • @ShadowOfMassDestruction
      @ShadowOfMassDestruction หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@yuusatakehito7579 It's also a part of her upbringing up with abandonment, loneliness, looking for information on her Dad all on her own that she developed this to quote Goku "if I don't who will" mentality. Even in the scariest situations because no one was there for her in moments of distress she feels she's the only one to count on so she'll bite back out of impulsive resentment as shown with her encounters with the thugs.
      She shows a lot of care for Makoto obviously but one moment that stuck out to me in particular was when I rewinded one of my saves just to see her forced platonic rank 9 dialogue.
      She was very insistent on being the one Makoto could lean on because in her eyes he takes care of other people and puts a lot of focus in his strength and power and not looking out for himself, something that sounds like it was inspired from the P3 movies.
      Makoto and Yukari mirror each other as like parallel opposites in a way. There are qualities that split them apart but the similarities they do have along with the traits that split them apart are what actually bring them together, like a puzzle piece to a space or opposing magnets. She sees a lot of herself in him which is also I think is a big reason why she is so attached to him.
      Combine that with that severe lone fighter "if I don't who will" mentality fast forwarding to The Answer you'll see that she thinks she's the only one who cares enough to even bother trying to save him. Nyx is a threat they've fought before and she'll do it again to bring him back even if it means doing it by herself.

    For the original Episode Aigis/The Answer,Yukari's actions, while not morally understandable, are emotionally understandable. Makoto/Kotone was someone that came into her life and basically turned it upside down for the better, and in the process of all this:
    Gaining an unforgettable friendship at worst and a loving relationship at best.
    Once Yukari thought that life was actually looking up for her,it found a way to take away her sunshine just like how life found a way to take away her father which caused her great pain and agony for many years. Then, once she tried her damn hardest to just forget all the pain, life pulled her back in and placed all this stress in her situation on top of that, and the situation could've led to her own death. Then, she let a golden opportunity to see someone she loved deeply slip through her fingers for someone she was just clearly jealous of from day 1 and there's nothing she can do to salvage it per usual. Combined with the fact this is all happening before becoming an adult:
    She's going to shed tears and blood if that is what it takes sadly. As I said though:
    Morally wrong
    Emotionally reasonable

      Would've been great if it just showed a slide show version of the same exact events playing out and implied they were stuck in an infinite time loop if they went back, because Makoto likely wouldn't just change his mind just because his friends started spouting nonsense about not letting him die, "this time," or something.
      They could even use the new game+ mechanics to really sell the time loop aspect of the bad choice.

    i feel people fail to realize yukari was mad at aigis because aigis is a love rival despite being a robot, so aigis being apprehensive or hesitating makes her upset because it reminds her of how she was with her father: trying to move forward and forget the past, but makoto is an important person to yukari and so of course she wants to go back and see him again.
    it's just like how she was hung up on her father, but she never figured she could see her father again. she can see makoto again -- she's given the chance to. she's upset aigis is not willing to take the chance, because aren't she and aigis the same? yeah, they are, but they're at different stages in their life, their love, and their grief. when you beat her as aigis, she realizes that she's just doing the same thing she did before -- she's stuck in the past. she can't be stuck in the past, because aigis is, and that's not right for aigis to suffer the same pain as her. she becomes more sympathetic to aigis, and cooperates with her easily.
    yukari's upset because aigis wants to shut down and be a robot again, so it's like she's running away from the reality makoto is dead and she didn't actually care -- makoto's memory is a burden to aigis and just a reminder she failed her objective. aigis from yukari's point of view is a coward, and even aigis herself admits that. she knows aigis is not just a robot, so why's she acting like it? i don't think yukari was right in trying to take the keys by force, but even aigis herself admits that yukari is correct to an extent.
    it's why the ending focuses so much on yukari and aigis. they both understand each other, and they both are able to move forward, because they both loved makoto in the same way. they both grieved the same way. aigis had to feel makoto die in her arms, and yukari could only see him after he died. both times, yukari didn't get closure. her father died while she was at home, and makoto died while she was at the graduation ceremony, and she never got to see them before they died.
    while the entirety of s.e.e.s. were grieving makoto, it was different for aigis and yukari. they both lost the man they loved. while yukari is upset aigis got makoto's power, the reality is yukari would be too scared to even wield orpheus. the reason makoto and aigis can both use orpheus is because they both are scared of the people closest to them dying, but they don't fear death themselves. makoto is too apathetic, and aigis is a robot programmed to save other people. yukari could never wield orpheus because she's still afraid of dying. it's impossible for her to ever have orpheus, but that doesn't mean she's lesser than aigis at all, even though she thinks she is.

      Also it was hinted by Ryoji that aigis will find the answer to life after Makoto did the great seal.
      Yukari was jealous of Aigis because she didn't have any memento of Makoto even when she went to his burial, while Aigis who didn't go to Makoto's burial and was shut down inherited Makoto's power.

    • @nymphia
      @nymphia 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      @@narasnek Yeah. While I don't think Yukari was reasonable, I don't think anything would have happened if she was. Aigis would have still sat there feeling lost, unaccepting of her emotions -- Metis. Yukari saying "yeah let's go to the present" wouldn't have given S.E.E.S. the way out of the time loop, because that's dishonest. Yukari's whole process is learning to be honest and discard her anxieties. It's why she IS so abrasive -- she doesn't want to be, but she feels like she has to be or people will take advantage of her.
      It says a lot that Junpei and her were able to work together so easily, because they're mirrors of each other. Junpei tries to be overly friendly and jolly so he doesn't have to discuss his emotions, and Yukari is abrasive and sarcastic so no one will bother asking her, but notice how when she or Junpei are asked directly, they will always tell their true feelings. They're the most honest members of S.E.E.S. after Fuuka and Aigis post-Answer.

    I think I get it. Simply put, they wrote her grief in an entirely different way in Episode: Aigis, but in a way it still feels believable.
    In The Answer, she manages to hold onto that fierce determination. She's mad at their current situation, looping the same day over and over, and still having to fight shadows. And she's hurting, but pushing it to the side cause she just wants to get from point a to b. Damn the world, they can save someone they care about. The solution is /right there./
    I wouldn't say Yukari is "watered down" in Episode: Aigis. Maybe her reaction is a little, but I think of it more like... at this point, she's exhausted. Yeah, she still feels all of the above, but... this time, it's written with the added exhaustion of bottling up all her grief. After losing, originally she was angry enough to try to argue and snatch the key, but now, she's just tired. She can't do it anymore, not to mention the majority of the team doesn't even want to go back to the past. It's just been constant fighting with both friends AND foes, and... she's tired. Maybe that's why her breakdown with Mitsuru is so much more broken in the new version.
    Before, it kinda feels like she's grieved at least a little on her own. Now, it genuinely feels like this is the first time she's fully accepted his death.
    Basically, I can see the argument for either version.

    Overall I’d say Episode Aigis is a vast improvement over the original answer. Gameplay wise obviously, and for me personally some story stuff just hit harder, and I think that’s in part because of the voice acting. I love the OG cast but I think the Reload cast just took this and ran with it, especially in Episode Aigis. All this to say, I feel like the only thing Episode Aigis got wrong compared to The Answer was Yukari. I’m fine with them wanting to tone her down a bit, I honestly think that making her more mature just makes this more palatable to most people. It’s just I feel like them taking out the moment when she tries to pry the key from Aigis’s hands just completely fumbles her arc. I get wanting to make her more mature, but like, she’s so desperate in that moment and really she wouldn’t give up that easily like she does in Reload. Heather Gonzalez does a lot of heavy lifting with her performance for Yukari let’s just put it that way

    Hmmmm. So Junpei mentions the big elephant in the room in the OG answer. Nyx. The last time they literally fought with all their hearts and souls and in the end basically became completely overwhelmed and couldn't even stand up until Makoto pulled a wild card miracle out of his butt and saved them all. There's nothing at all about their current abilities that would imply they would end up in any better situation going back and trying it again. And of course the chance that they all might fail completely and kill the whole world is far from zero. In the Answer Yukari flat out ignores this and just calls Junpei a coward. In Episode Aigis Junpei falters and doesn't bring it up properly. I'm not sure if I like either 'solution' better than the other.

I don't think she'd put it like that in so many words, but I feel that's the intent behind everything if you wipe away the hurt and the grief she's being slammed with. Its a horrible plan, and I think Yukari herself pretty much admits as much after we do the good old anime trope of beating the crap out of her until she is willing to hear what is being said. I am glad they downplay the aggression and desperation from her in some parts of Episode Aigis (I know its controversial but omitting that whole 'grabbing the key and trying to steal it from Aigis after she lost' bit was a good call, for example)

    Og yukari's reaction is way better, but I liked mitsuru's speech more in reload. Either way we now understand yukari's point of view because all of us are way more mature than we were back then.
    As a matter of fact her reaction, to me, is very relatable: when my dad passed away I was convinced I could have prevented it, with time I realised that I would have delayed the inevitable at best. If back then I had the chance to go to the past I would have done it, now I wouldn't.

    I actually sympathize with Yukari and prefer her original characterization, but Reload didn't fix some of the flaws with The Anwer.
    One problem I have with both versions is that while Yukari has understandable reasons for what she's doing (even if what she's doing isn't right), she's the only one who's actually pushing for the group to go back in time to try to save the protagonist. Akihiko, Ken and Junpei are against it, and everyone else is undecided- even Mitsuru just supports Yukari out of obligation despite not agreeing with her. Essentially, it's Yukari and Mitsuru vs. everyone else, so Yukari's almost singlehandedly starting the fighting is a large part of why a lot of people used to dislike Yukari.
    The tournament setup is also rather strange. Aigis and Metis end up fighting Akihiko and Ken, then Junpei and Koromaru, before Yukari and Mitsuru, even though the former two teams have more of a problem with Yukari's group than they do with Aigis' group. While Akihiko is understandably worried about letting Aigis have the key if she's undecided, Junpei only fights Aigis because he doesn't think she can win against Yukari and Mitsuru.
    And then there's how the vast majority of the plot development happens at the very beginning or near the end.
    TL;DR? Reload is worse but the original wasn't perfect, either.

    • @narasnek
      @narasnek 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      Nope, that wasn't the point. Junpei is not taking any side and is afraid of taking a decision. Akihiko and Ken want to ignore the truth and keep moving. Yukari is stuck in the past, Mitsuru is with Yukari because she can't be honest with her. Aigis doesn't know what to do. All of this característics are part of their reverse arcana. In Reload doesn't make sense fighting to rush things is awfully written if you ask me.

    While I definitely prefer Yukari's agression in FES, I agree that Reload's portrayal was done wonderfully, esp. with Mitsuru's new lines in comforting Yukari.
    What I'm REALLY dissappointed in is how Akihiko's character felt sanded down. In the OG Answer, it felt like he was in the opposite extreme to Yukari's stance, while still running away from his own grief in the exact same way. Like, there's a reason he was the other character besides Yukari who was going to skip out on the party in the beginning.
    In FES, when he and Yukari are arguing, it feels personal and hostile, while in Reload, it sounds like Akihiko is giving her a stern lecture. It just didn't feel like he needed to come to terms with his own emotions, trying to move past protag's death without taking the time to properly grieve or understand what his sacrifice really meant.
    I know that Yukari gets more focus anyway, even in the original, and Akihiko doesn't have the same arc like she does, but it still felt like SOMETHING was going on there.

    Tbh, toning down aside since it's already in base game, FATLUS trying to make Yukari nicer. OG leans towards the 'show more, say less' and Yukari's frustration, jealousy, desperation and sadness are shown in the more believable manner if you know one or two things about losing the person you love most yet unable to move on. Many people in 2008, even the japanese, don't understand what those 'bitchy' actions she does are the result of MC taken away from her, not her core characteristics, so she got called a bitch. And other people who heard others say that The Answer (TA) is shitty didn't bother to play themselves or at least watch the story cutscenes on YT so they have no idea what exactly Yukari did to garner such hate.
    Reload tries to appease the newcomers by almost outright pointing out that "Look, she is grieving! She is getting desperate!" in a halfass way. Those indications don't show that her desperation reaches the point that she doesn't care about winning or losing, she will just take the key and go back in time so she can see MC again, effectively dooming the world with the Fall. Removing the crucial scene and prior actions will make her falling down and crying not as impactful. At best, you would think that she's crying because she lost, not because she realizes both the facts that the loser can't use the key, and going back in time will cause the Fall again, rendering MC's sacrifice meaningless. She has been very rational throughout the game up to that point and that scene just flips her personality. Right in the meeting scene, she knows that going to the past means fighting Nyx again. In FES, she doesn't care at all. That shows how deep her grief and desperation are.
    I don't like Yukari when she's this irrational and annoying, but I have to accept it as her character development. Don't water that down just because some of the audience don't understand what you wrote for her.

    At the risk of being called “Media illiterate” I think both takes have there pros and cons. FES is more raw with there emotions and it makes sense this is a big choice involving someone important to them. However I get why people didn’t like yukari behavior. Yes even as someone who is my least favorite character in persona, I get and understand her viewpoint. She lost her father and lost the love of her life and lashing against those who are near can happen, however she was not the only one who has lost someone. Everyone in SEES has experience death and has to grapple with the lost of the MC. I don’t think people who don’t like fes yukari should be told that they “dont get it” because they didn’t like how she spoke to them. I have a personal belief that you being upset does not excuse you from saying what you want how you want without any regard for other feels and not expect people to have less then nice things to say. I don't like that Junpei doesn't know what he means. It's clear to him that the present matters, and it's clear that he doesn't want to go back... saying he doesn't know what he "means" makes no sense.
    Also, I like the straightforwardness of the original. It's more clear what each character means and who they are by how they word their feelings Akihiko saying "throw in the towel" and "flat out refuse" to undo Miki and Shinnji's death? Ken saying that it's not fair undo a sacrifice... thinking about Shinji too. Maybe Yukari was too holier-than-thou in the original. It was clear to everyone this moment was pivotal and there was no way to convince anyone of anything. The fight was inevitable, especially when Aigis wasn't sure what to do, and Akihiko says it flat out, that she doesn't have the conviction to face Yukari, so he won't allow someone weak (will = power) to face the strong.

      All of them were at their worst at that moment. All of them in the answer represent the reverse arcana this change after the colliseum fights. That is why they were weaker. He only knows that meddling with the past it was completely wrong.

      Nope, in Reload it doesn't make any sense the colliseum battles. All the tension was about the conflict between Yukari and Akihiko, Aigis with out knowing what decision to take and Junpei more concerned about Aigis and not taking any side. They weren't fighting for "honor", but because all of them had different reasons and all of them were in the reverse form of their arcana and were grieving. Like someone else said :
      *I can see what they’re trying to do in Reload. They wanted to make Yukari stick out like less of a sore thumb compared to the rest of the group. But if they were gonna do that, they kinda needed to dial everyone else up, not dial her down. Build the tension between the party further rather than decrease it. Episode aigis doesn't have anywhere near the same feeling or evoke anywhere near the same emotions for me as the Og did, but hell that goes for the entire game.
