Jordan fully deserved that win, I mean holy hell the way he countered the multiple attempts from everyone else to stop his Demonic Tutor (11:08) was just fantastic!
Very nice videos. Well edited, nice gameplay and most important for me as a young EDHighlander, explanation and additional thoughts about commander/deckbuilding. You sir, earned yourself a subscription ;)
Amazing episode! I really enjoyed this episode as there were no consultation or Thassa's oracle! That food chain combo was a lot more interesting to watch you fight over, than the consultation! Thanks for listening to the viewers!
i really love the music you had in the start! also did you make any minor changes? this video feels much cleener and smoother than usual. whatever you're doing, keep at it!
Really good to see Ukkima prove to be the card that won the game... I feel like a lot of the new commanders get stuffed into existing decks that don't play around them, and we basically just watch the same old decks do what they do except with a new figurehead.
I dont think you really can say that. It was basically worse first sliver. The card that won the game was ad nauseum, just like most food chain decks do.
@@Blackvolttage It did win the game in the most literal sense... a combo featuring the card caused the game to end. That's kinda beside the point though, as I was trying to highlight that there was some meaningful interaction with the commander.
Shabraz can also act as a grindy voltron commander when the game goes long. Being able to gain life and pump it each turn can turn the tides, and make your opponents think twice when wheeling.
Man that was like Avengers movie, everyone tried to stop the SNAP, but he bitch slapped everyone and said "You should have went for the head" SNAP!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just found your channel, and I LOVE it. it’s easy to follow and competitive😆 keep it up! Also I was wondering how high of a power level, 1-10, you think tribal decks can be, thanks!
I saw in the stream that u built an Illuna deck but it had more tha one permanent, I think if u do a control deck with Thassa's oracle like the unic permanent and win con it would be a very good semicompetitive deck.
I really enjoy Joseph's playmat. There's one he has used that similar though that I like more. Anyone know where I can find one? Its wood and desert-themed with zones that aren't labeled. Any help would be fantastic
My wooden playmat is a custom design, but the one in this video is available through our Kickstarter (link in the description). We left the zones out of the Kickstarter version to have it be a bit more universal
The playmats ship to wherever USPS allows, which is most countries (Germany included). Shipping will be charged separately from the Kickstarter so be sure to use the calculator linked in the Kickstarter page to get a shipping estimate
Once the Kickstarter ends, all playmats will be available in the merch store. The Kickstarter is to fund bulk purchasing of inventory. The lands playmat will be unlocked by the second stretch goal and would be available right away.
So, what are your thoughts and hopes for the meta, now that Flash is banned?? (Sorry to talk about something unrelated. The episode was great, by the way!! I love food chain decks, it's unfortunate that it's so damn expensive... but I find it really fun)
Generally I see the Flash ban opening up the meta to a lot of different archetypes that were just shy of being super competitive. Being able to feel a little safer to develop your board state on your turn will open up a lot of options for deckbuilding. Consult will be strong but not as dominant as Flash Hulk was in my opinion. These numbers are meaningless and just for example, but imagine that Flash Hulk was a 100, consult 95, and other top tier decks between 90-95. Now instead of these 'other' decks being 10 behind the best, they're at most 5 which is much more reasonable. Again, the numbers are superficial but that general sentiment is how I feel about where Consult will sit in the meta. In terms of what other archetypes I expect to see more often - I expect to see more stax since its easier to develop a board state and it's easier to stax out Conult lines compared to Flash Hulk (The instant vs sorcery speed matters a lot here). Medium Green or Turbo Thrasios decks will also probably pop up more frequently as well. I'm sure there are other archetypes that will become more common but those two specifically I'm a but more familiar with and I expect them to be fairly strong
I have a suggestion for brewers out there, tayam. He's kinda like if Ghave and Thrasios had a child, I imagine an earthcraft stax deck with reusable instant speed interaction, like aura of silence and pernicious deed. Need to work around that counter requirement, but I think there might be a deck here.
I wish yall would be able to offer your shirt for big people. I totally would of ordered a shirt but sadly I need 4xl for comfort. Keep up the great content. I absolutely love watching it. I am happy you guys change your commanders up. Wish there was some other things than typical win cons. But I totally get it cuz they are powerful and easier to win with them. 🙂
Some of the shirt colors come in up to 4XL, but the supplier only offers certain sizes for certain colors. On a side note we do look to keep the decks varied in terms of how they win but I understand that they can seem a bit repetitive. We try to do our best to make sure the games we release are still entertaining and interactive, even if the wincons aren't always unique
Doesn't Brallin draw you 3 cards each ping? One to each opponent? That should mean that you'd deck before dealing the needed damage to everyone, right? Discard 1 -> Brallin trigger -> Deal 1 to 3 opponents -> 3 draw triggers? Am I missing something?
@@DarkEinherjar Tandem Lookout is the only one of these effects in WUR that isn't optional. In that case you might still win, but it depends on your opponents' life totals, how many cards are in your library, and how much over hand size you were in your first cleanup. An Eldrazi titan doesn't necessarily fix it, because you get an increasing number of draws each cleanup, so if you don't see it by the time you've drawn a certain fraction of your deck (which again depends on opponents' life totals and your hand size), you'll deck yourself in a single cleanup without having the opportunity to discard it unless you have a discard outlet on board. I think the takeaway is don't play Tandem Lookout in this deck.
I think I saw a mistake with the Demonic Tutor. He cast a Narset's Reversal targeting his tutor and countered the Swan Song that targeted his tutor. By the time the stack resolved he should've had a Demonic Tutor thanks to Narset's and then had it in his hand. It didn't affect the outcome of the game, but I felt like I should mention it. Also please anyone feel free to correct me if I missed something because I'm sure I might have.
I tossed it in as a replacement for Kruphix in my Eldrazi deck and messed around with how it curves out. He's a lot more aggressive and generates a ton of mana if you're using artifact and creature ramp. At the end of the day, he's going to be relatively casual even though he can go infinite fairly easily. What holds him back is that he doesn't have a proper wincon on board and requires 2-3 other cards to create a combo.
Phillip Daigle I really can’t disagree more, the card comes into play and if built correctly either that turn or the following turn you generate infinite mana easily. It’s silly how easy it is and once you have infinite mana there’s like 78 win cons lol the card is busted.
Kalamax: You should consider the Ral, Storm Conduit + (any) Fork (spell) combo as win con. This makes the deck much better. (Haven't watched the video yet)
Not as far as I know, but if you're playing competitively, your playgroup should be okay with you using a proxy if you let them know beforehand. In the end, its about the game, not the cash.
Any infinite mana combo will do, really. Most of them require more than two cards, don't generate all the colors you need and/or revolve around specific (and usually frail) creatures, though, which is why you don't see them very much in cEDH. Examples: -Pili-Pala + Grand Architect -Incubation Druid + Vigean Graftmage -Pemmin's Aura/Freed from the Real + any creature that taps for two or more mana of any color -Dockside Extortionist + Temur Sabertooth (requires your opponents to control five or more artifacts and/or enchantments)
The win con is on Ukkima, so it is indeed original. That beeing said, I'm not the biggest fan of food chain either, but that game was still great. Also: It's cEDH, yet you complain about playing an effective strategy?
In this scenario, you have a strong reason to believe he would go for food chain (as he mystic'd to demonic). But he could just as easily be searching a pact or something. Besides, if he has regrowth/noxious etc you will be glad to counter the tutor over the tutored card. Besides, say that demonic resolves. Well, now you have the combo in hand, but do you need to run it? you can hold on on the combo while everyone need to struggle to win, probably take bigger risks and autoloses. And you just run it out next turn.
Hmm something iv always wondered why bother casting chrome mox or the other free artifact ramp be4 you would need it in this game he give a remora draw for casting something for free that he could just cast later once remora was gone without costing him anything Like turn 1 mana crypt but you dont use it so next turn you take 3 for effectively having nothing
Successfully casts is archaic wording. It had to with how counter spells worked differently back when those cards were printed. You could only counter immediately after playing a card(so no searching up a counter) and you had successfully cast if it wasn't countered. When the rules changed all those card were errated to just be play/cast.
You guys should really try out Pako and Haldan. Pako is a great value engine and grows very quickly. Also he is super cute, which, in my opinion, makes him one of the best commander's available right now
I really enjoy watching the cedh content to get new ideas for decks, but I still do not understand why anyone wants to play this format lol. Looks kinda boring to be honest
demonic tutor adnauseam and a sickening amount of blue answers to hold off 3 other players, makes me wonder why jordan even plays commander. It's a disservice to everyone at the table including himself.
dont get me wrong. the match itself was quite nice and the fight on the tutor was wild. i just do not really see a point in testing the new commanders, if there is not really happening much on those. the winning deck was just another ad nauseam food chain thing. i am aware that this channel is about somehow competitive content. but i think that having a showcase about the new commanders somehow fails here. Sometimes competitive feels to me uninspired and just sticking to best win cons for the color identity.
It's fifteen minutes after all the editing, which leaves out the shuffling & mulligans, the irrelevant moves and all the conversation between players we never listen to when watching these games. I'd say the actual game probably lasted 30-40 minutes at least, which is reasonable enough in a table full of decks racing to see who comboes off first. You should watch their lives someday: the individual games usually go on for over an hour.
I love commander and been watching some episodes for a while... but kinda gets boring to see everyone win with and infinite combo all the time. I mean, you choose commanders just to have the colors that allows you to play said combo. The deck doesnt do whats supposed to do, the decks just let you put the combo cards in it. Rarely someone with out of pure strategy or skill... good channel, but at least try to win without a combo, or is that you just cant?
The type of Magic that we enjoy playing for the channel is what we consider 'semi-competitive.' We are building the strongest decks we can given the commanders that we choose and some other light restrictions (an example of these restrictions would be that we don't build budgetless decks, which is why we don't run OG Duals or cards like Imperial Seal). With that in mind, combos generally are the cleanest and easiest way for victory. That being said, I would actually disagree that we only choose commanders for the colors and I would use this video as a prime example. Brallin and Shabraz have a very unique semi-infinite combo associated with them that no other Jeskai commander has. Ukkima and Cazur is a perfect Food Chain shell because Ukkima is an outlet and synergizes very well with that line. Zaxara and Kalamax are also using combos that synergize with the commander itself well (Zaxara being able to be used with Freed from the Real and Kalamax allowing tutors to gain additional value). The commanders are generally chosen first and then we build the deck and the win conditions around them, not the other way around. I understand if comboing out isn't ideal for you, but I just wanted to give our background and reasoning for building the deck like we do.

The Copy Artifact was a copy of Adam's Sol Ring so the Sol Ring, the Signet, and the land (4) made up the casting cost for Brallin
10:50 Joseph man massive mistake, you should have used Bralin's partner etb to shuffel Jordans deck
The ability is a "may", so if targeted, Jordan can simply choose not to search, in which case he doesn't shuffle.
Why do people cast sth like counterspell and swan song on a tutor? Wouldn't it be smarter to wait until he actually tries to win?
Some cards better stay in the library than being put into the graveyard. Another reason could be that searched card is uncountable.
