Thanks for watching! We are now preparing for the Northwest Passage this summer, sailing from Alaska to Greenland! I've just finished the project webpage: www.alluringarctic.com/ . The page will get updated as we go along. I will of course also be making a video series of the preparations and the passage itself. So stay tuned and bookmark the page to keep updated! :)
Olipa hienot sivut !!! Uutiskirje tilattu 👍😊
SO excited to see a Northwest Passage. Great tour, great boat.
Looking forward to seeing the transit to Greenland.
Good job on your website. Can't catch a fish without the line in water
we are running critically low on topsoil and fossil water resources.
My Main Point has been that those african ships hauling livestock feed out of here have been as unregulated as their heroin.
farmers should not go Entirely by the market,
you should understand that here by now.
they should set a little more aside for forage, or just set aside.
but with forage, the compaction is minimal, and the animals really do help build it up.
on the politics;
the folly of all humanity has been approaching subsaharans with reasoning, expecting the same results as normal people.
but Every Time someone does that, they are handing the subsaharans everything they need to know to figure out another way to continue without anyone finding out about it.
anyone telling them to stop just sends their minds strait into workarounds...they are not stupid, they are different intelligent...but They ARE NOT normal people.
Bucket showers on the deck. Gives a whole new meaning to "shrinkage" lol.
Wait, wait! till I warm up!
That's sisu for you... I grew up on those waters, and certainly no local would be OK with doing that.
I doubt any male Finn would find that a problem! 😲😁
@@sammic974 like laundry?
@@penguin44ca Don't think so.
Looks ideal to me. You should both be proud of the work you put into Lumi.
Seconded! You did incredible work with her!
Instant coffee?!? As a fellow Finnish citizen I'll have to reconsider hitting that thumbs up button... 😁
Some do enjoy blasfemi. I do smell some piles of proper coffee waiting in their mailbox after this.
😂
Running a coffee pot or k cup style brewer takes energy, and any reservoir based coffee maker runs the risk of freezing between cups. 🤷🏼♀️🫤.
Kyl pikakahvi kätevää on, ja jopa hyvää.... ku pistää paljon sokeria 😅
C'mon man ! Who doesn't love a delicious cup of Nescafe.😁
You to are an absolutely adorable couple and have created a beautiful home on the water. I think that the space is perfect, homey and functional all at the same time. May it provide the two of you years of memories. Never apologize for a little bit of clutter…. It’s just a sign of a full life. Thank you showing us your world. Sending you both love and respect from Idaho, USA 🥰🥰🥰
WOW 😮 Your boat looks great & so cozy😊 You two did a fantastic job on the rebuild & no one would think the before & after shots are the same boat. Enjoy your next sail. 👍🏻🙋🏼♀️🇺🇸
New to this channel (May 2024), seems I will need to go back a few videos to see the “before” at this point!🤠👍🏼☮️
"The wire chaos of hell". I like it. I love watching your videos. Very peaceful, even including the wire area.
Looks very orderly to me.
I wish I had the balls to take the leap and do what you do! You guys are inspiring. Be safe and well. Thank you guys.
What's holding you back?
I have read that there is such.a thing as piracy on the passage. Is there room for a local as guard and guide? The boat (and the two of you!) are looking great!
My fiance and I lived on a 27ft sailboat and for a while it was very cold. We would have snow on our boat and iced up portholes. We wore lots of layers, had a nice down bag to sleep in, took bucket showers, and drank instant coffee as well. Not that we did it for nearly as long as you guys have but it gave me such an appreciation for what you guys do and I find it awesome. Although I'm not a big fan of the cold myself, I find the lifestyle you guys have so fascinating and you're one of the main sailing channels I watch most frequently. ❤️
Thank you for SHARING a part of your LIFE with ALL!
Sohvi and Juho: I remember your episode, inspecting Lumi in Napa, California and thought, "my goodness, I wonder who designed this spacious 44ft sailboat"? You both have turned her into a picture of function and one of a tidy, cozy Alaskan hideaway on the water. We love the carpet Sohvi designed on the cabin floor, the diesel heat, the galley arrangement, etc.. The aft dining room area with all the seating or Sohvi's space is awesome, truly a lovely area for inviting friends or relaxing with a good book. We haven't heard from you for a while and were concerned that the Alaskan winters had taken their toll. Wishing you a safe and beautiful passage through the Northwest Passage. Before Valdez opened up the Pipeline, Exxon ran an icebreaker bow Tanker through this passage, studying the feasibility of crude oil transport. I happened to have been the Third Mate on this passage and later ran the Valdez to Long Beach run with ARCO Marine, Inc.. We can't wait for your coming episodes and want to thank you both again for making us welcome in your cozy and comfortable Home.
Your comment of “the whole boat is a frig” is hilarious. Brought flashbacks of the unheated attic I used as a bedroom during my college days in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Thanks for the interesting tour.
I love hearing from you and watching your stories! You both are a good example of conservation, cleanliness, and order without which living happily in such a small space would be very difficult. Thanks for sharing this part of your lives with us. Murry from Salmon, Idaho.
You look much happier without that critter on your head, you guys are neat. Enjoy watching!
Thanks for sharing and being a nice example for the younger sailing generation!
I have now learned: I will never live on a boat.
This was a valuable lesson. Thank you.
Your boat is fantastic, and so too is your loved one. :)
its a sailboat thing, even a 10 million pound sailing yacht the living areas are totally compromised
Great video! What a difference from when we saw you in the yard in Napa. I is so delightful and encouraging to see you making your plans come alive. Thank you! Namaste.🙏
Cozy little nest for the two of you. Thanks for sharing. ❤❤
No heating in the bedroom is cozy 4 u?
@@annakavan1869 Yes, with your lover by your side snuggled beneath a heavy down comforter.
Great low-key tour! Your style is much appreciated as I have watched so many boat tours for work doing translation and voice-over. The change a pace is a breath of fresh air. Thank you for sharing, and I look forward to your series on the NW passage.
Lumi sure has come a long way from the time you purchased her to your current tour video. This is one amazing boat and a big step up from Sylvia and Antartika (we won't mention the other boat that had a short span in your travels). I really like the layout of this sailing yacht and how you remodeled it. Thanks for sharing the tour Sohvi and Juho.
Very happy to see you back, I've been visualizing you hunkered down and feeling isolated.
Thank you for the tour of your “cozy” living quarters. Happy you are both well. Stay safe and stay well.
Your boat is amazingly tidy given how much y’all do for activities!!!! Thanks for the tour!
You've done an excellent job enhancing the design for cold weather sailing, providing precisely what is necessary to sustain research work and activities in extremely remote and harsh conditions.
Get yourself some big round granite rocks from the beach and set them on your Reflek heater. It’ll keep your feet warm for hours. Bring it to bed and it will last all night!!
Awesome...I'm in North Carolina, and realize my fiberglass boat is high maintenance.... your videos inspired me to eventually get an aluminum hull sailing vessel as It is low maintenance.... Godspeed....and be safe
Fiscars scissors are the best!!!❤️❤️❤️
My US mom had a pair she protected although not as much as her hair shears. To this day they are worth having and taking care of.
and they seem to last a lifetime or two as well!
Great tour of your life on board! I'm most impressed by your running dialogue and how you handle the camera by keeping it stationary while going down the hall for a better space perspective. And how you handle all your needs. I'd pretty much do it exactly the same... except for the instant coffee : )
Very interesting how you guys organized your belongings in tight quarters. It certainly can be challenging to find items buried other things. Thanks for sharing. I like it!
Very interesting, Thankyou for sharing.
A decent amount of space for two people to live aboard. Looks very cosy.
I love the both of you BUT, you should always have a current chart and kee3p it updated for the time WEN the GPS will fail for some reason. I suggest have them laminated and used as a desk top. Just a suggetion from an old navigator.
Thank you for the tour. Your sailboat bigger than I expected.. please stay safe.
Thank you for the look around
Wellcome back, I was afraid something could go wrong as you have been absent for so long. Happy to see you again!
Thanks for the tour. It is a beautiful vessel.
I spent an early spring on my boat in the same area. My constant complication was always condensation. I got some cheap foam rubber that I could stuff into hatches and cover the windows with at night that made a huge difference.
So happy to see another video out. Thanks for the tour & explanations. Be well, warm & safe.
Thank you for the tour of your boat. I like the covered cockpit as a place to change out of wet gear. The diesel stove looks warm and cozy but the hot water bottles are the best!! Thank you for all you do to share winter adventures in Alaska. I live near Seattle Washington USA.
Thanks for sharing this, Juho! What an awesome living arrangement. Can't wait to follow your journey further North this summer!
The "livingroom" area is super generous with space, I love the couch for 10 people! That is so cool to have on a boat. I know that LUMI is 44 foot, but still very nice interior design.
I immediately imagined a wide drawer, when you mentioned the chart table with usless space.
_DITTO!_
I admire your practical solutions which are innovative too.
Good to hear from you guys
Very comfortable. Very practical. Thanks for inviting us into your home. Cheers
Thanks for the tour! I would love to see more detailed breakdown of your sports equipment. Would you mind going a separate video for that?
Love hearing from Sovhi ❤ she is great on camera 😊 cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
Great to see a tour of your lovely boat, but wait, what happened to your signature dreadlocks? You look so different without them. 😊
Good luck with staying as warm as possible! It's great to get another overview of the boat and layout. E.g. I thought that the daytank was located further to the bow. I really like those older Garcia models and find it fascinating to see how you use Lumi and your individual design choices. Fair winds and Immer eine handbreit Wasser unterm Kiel!
Greetings from germany 😊
Beautiful boat for sure and practical in its layout, definitely can tell the experienced cold weather sailor at work!
Happy to see a new video on your channel. The boat is cozy and functional, that matters most. Stay warm and happy. Looking forward to new activities videos!
Looks lovely and snug , you are so well prepared and everything worked out.
WE LOVE THE FISKARS TOO!
The interior is more roomy and finished better than I expected. Very nice!
Great walk through. Thanks for making this video. I'm guessing the weather has been normal and kept you pretty much captive to the boat. Yet even that is some feat and only your very well considered preparations have made it possible. I would like to comment on the notion of time: Every day, all situations, the cold, the howling winds; just you two. Keeping sane is also quite some achievement.
Beautiful sailboat. You guys were really good at finding her and refitting her back to live. Congratulations
Love that salon and hard dodger / pilot house design! Awesome.
With others looking at sailing north, you have given them good ideas and solutions to consider.
Really cozy boat. Thanks for the tour. Looking so much forward for your northwest passage
fantastic setup on Lumi, so well thought out with limited space.
I love the unusual layout. The giant settee area is awesome, as is the access to all sides of the motor under the table. The pilothouse and almost horizontal companionway hatch are cool as well.
You really have a beautiful functional, strong boat. I love it.
Good to see you guys are surviving the weather. It's been a bit crazy this winter.
My husband and I are wintering on our boat in Georian Bay. You have an amazing space!
We look forward to your videos. Thanks from SV Misty Shores!! You are both amazing.
I’m in Midland!
I love you little plugs for Finland, (: never knew that is where fiskar scissors originated.
Also if you are enjoying instant coffee, do not try fresh ground. Like most things once you sample the better alternative, it is hard to enjoy the other and then you will have to add more items to the boat.
winter toys/gear take up alot of room, no way around it.
Didn’t know that Finland made these quality tools, scissors and loppers to name but a few. You come from an amazing stock of humans- very cerebral and great engineering type dreamers and planners. That explains your methodical nature toward problem solving. Thanks for the tour. Be safe and hope you have time for a bit more flying on skis!!! No bears!!!
Thank you
It took a long time to see this video since rebuilt. Looks great 👍
She's a beautiful boat! Thanks for the tour. I just watched a couple of your earlier videos of post-purchase..You guys have come a long way in a short time-nice work!! The boat looks like a super cozy place to be in a winter anchorage, as long as you're bundled up! I love the narrow passageway to the bow-very good for moving safely through the boat in a seaway.
Looks homey, cozy and ready for adventure. Stay safe out there. ⛵️
This boat really looks very spacious and functional. I remember what a wreck it was when you bought it. It’s been fun to follow along!
From an Alaskan... You guys are doing it right. Loving these episodes and also really like this layout. Seems really great for these northern climates.
That's a really unusual and spacious layout for a sailboat yacht. You have a snug living room arrangement where a rear cabin would normally be. I like it. Like open-plan liveaboard living.
Thanks for showing us the inside oof your boat. Some great thoughts and ideas. II do like the Ikea carpet!!
All the best Richard
Looks so cosy. I'd be very happy in that space.
You have a very interesting sinaurio. I lived in a 27 foot boat for to years in Canada the floor was sooooo COLD.
Good to see your looking strong. Lifes addictive which creates clutter// stay clean and warm
Thanks for your tour
Curtis...note: 7 yrs off grid 7.5x23.5 lD
You are Both Great Decision Makers, Beautiful Boat, Not what a Lot of people would have expected from How the Boat Looked at the Day of Purchase, You really New what You were Buying. Best Regards!⛵
This is the best layout that I have ever seen absolutely perfect in my opinion thank you for sharing
Your videos are amazing. Your filming is just remarkable. I will definitely continue to watch your videos. Thank you very much.
Nice boat, looking forward to the technical stuff.
You are great represantives of Finnish people! Keep on loving sailing and each other!
I'm not Finnish (I'm British) but there was a time when I worked for a Finnish company. They used to joke that Finnish people are just like Germans but without the sense of humour 😀
Thank you for the interior tour. Very well done.
Wonderful tour!! Very cozy and I love the ikea rugs!
Hi, I'm also an instant coffee ☕ drinker. 😁 Thank you for the tour of the interior of your boat, its lovely and I really love the teak wood, and it's surprising how much stuff you have in your boat. I live full time on a narrow boat ( with my 4 cats) 🐈 in the UK 🇬🇧 55ft long X 6' 10 wide, and I am on a canal which is nice, especially in the summer. I don't have a mooring, so I continuesly cruise, and so I am self - sufficient. Winter on the canal is quite difficult especially coping with all the mud, because on this particular stretch of the canal its mostly grass and mud 😀 when it's been raining as much as it has so far this year. I love watching your videos, and I love all the amazing, and beautiful places you sail to. Thank you. 😊
Really interesting to get a perspective of the interior of the boat. The aft settees look a great idea.
O so loved your tour! Living the life you enjoy and making it great. 🎉 party on!🎉
Really nice, purposeful boat. Congratulations!
This is so cool, ive always wanted a sail boat but never thought it could because i live in Alaska you guys are definitely giving me hope.
Ah, those little thermo fans are a life saver. Made such a difference when I lived on my narrowboat.
Great video - love your utilization of space- you have a great boat.
Very nice interior and I do appreciate your fantastic Videos, some great adventures for the two of you. A tip on your condensation problem, I had the same on camper trailer. To fix it we put a small track on the front edge to slide a Vinyl cover into, then domed the edges to fasten it well, and had strips of 30x30mm wide foam tape stuck to the inside of the cover at approximately 250 mm spacing. It could be quickly removed and rolled up and put away when travelling to our next destination, this was winter time of course. Cheers from New Zealand
Beautiful vessel. Thank you for the tour.
im an absolute sucker for that cozy wood interior.
What a great video I really enjoyed looking at your floating home. You guys stay safe and enjoy yourself
Great boat tour guys! I pray for your safe passage and safety always! Cheers! 🍻
Always love living area with collection of books, no matter how small
I really like the layout of your boat. I especially like the large seating area under the cockpit as I've not seen that on other boats.
I'd love to have something like that in more tropical climates.
Cool best use of space etc for what you have a little time and work and it will all take shape. must be a great life style vey envious, enjoy!
Great boat. The lounge area is huge.
Thanks for sharing your home. Very well presented.
I just discovered you guys. I love these sailing videos. So much better than some of the others who just film themselves on the beach. This is real and i appreciate how you give explanations and reasonings to things. Keep it up.
That's a beautiful interior.
Good Lad. Enjoyed. Thanks for sharing.
Merci pour le partage un plaisir de vous revoir😊
