I always loved the way Super Mario 64 builds up to Bowser. Especially if it's your first Mario game, you enter the castle to receive a message and hear that iconic laugh, when you finally reach the first boss level, the painting slowly transforming from peach to Bowser before falling into the trapdoor to a dark and gloomy area and hear that laugh again. Upon the end of the level you finally meet the Koopa king himself. This was one of the few times where Bowser truly felt like a legitimate threat. Wish they'd give Bowser that same level of treatment again.
They did,in galaxy and odyssey (you wrote the comment 8 months ago,so the games are out by then.) And also in boswer's fury he also felt like a menace,but not as much due to the game's length.
the music of this final level is perfect, because transmit the entire sensation of danger, reflected in that dark purple-pink sky, with clouds resembling strange and monstrous figures, not forgetting the strange design of the plataforms of the level in general, this classic is fantastic.
And it shows that Bowser might rule the world because of this amazing song it’s so evil and creull and Mario must stop Bowser before he rules the whole world
Wow I remember the excitement of finally having enough stars to get up Bowers stairs and into this final level. Then to make my way to the top and take him on. Me and my sister possibly parents sitting watching as I fought him....probably died a few times but the feeling when I beat him and the credits rolled. Was emotional. It was a part of my life that had ended as I'd played the game for a few years before this (as I got the game when I was 6).
I remember just playing the DS version of this game and I have really fond memories of just trying to fight bowser in the end. And when I did, I felt really great about myself and really a momentous time of my childhood.
I found this level so scary as a kid, because the level takes place in the sky somewhere, and those purple clouds make it creepier. The fear of falling in this level is what ultimately scared me
How good is this game? Ok, now it may seem to be aged, but 25 years ago, before internet, when we barely started to see colour tv, this came along and for a good 3 hours a day I could go to a different dimension where unseen thing happened all the times, The innovation this has brought makes all the new Mario titles just a celebration of this title. Thank you Nintendo.

This reminds of a dusk time of Rainbow Road which gave me a bigger fear of falling than this level.

While it has aged, that is to be expected but even with all the things that have aged, 64 is still tonnes of fun and admirable to this day.

make sure your not too far away as even with full power sometimes you can be too far away from a bomb and miss
