Hi, Why not make an episode about EDC that is TSA friendly. For those who travel for business, it would be an awesome video-i know many people would be in the same boat. Thanks for the work you do. It is a very informative and innovative way to present the material. Love the store-waiting on more items to be stocked. Cheers!

I have been carrying the Leatherman Style PS for a few months. The scissors are sharp and effective, and open up flat enough to use as a small knife. I’ve used it to cut paracord, boxes, and do some lightweight projects. I go through security at least twice a week. Most of the time, TSA lets it pass through without looking. Once in a while they pull it out, show it to their boss and colleagues, then smile and say, “cool!”. It’s not ideal, but it’s better than nothing. It’s small and well designed. I have a short loop of paracord around a front belt loop that I clip the tool on and it discretely hangs into my front pocket. No one has ever asked me about what’s down there because, ...well, that would be inappropriate. ;-)

When I was a Boy Scout, we had lanyards that we could put on the pocket flap button. The beads were of different colors, which were for different kinds of activities, like winter camping with sub-freezing temperatures, emergency service to the community, going to a national Scout camp/trek or World Jamboree, earning a higher rank, perfect attendence for a whoole year, etc.

We used to work in the field and our friend “Cholo” showed us how using different knots/beads makes it easier to go and grab the exact item/tool you want without digging inside a bag. Specially useful in the dark and to get items out without reaching in with dirty hands while working

    • @scootcha

The main demographic for EDC does not have dirty hands, nor are they operating out of a bad at night. They work cushy desk jobs. They only take out their knife to open their Amazon Prime box.

I just tried that snake knot and it came out pretty good. I used the inner core of a lanyard for glassed and the bead and 2 small rubber tube inserts that was on it and it works great for pulling from the pocket. Especially considering I have a deep pocket clip. It really works great.

You could also cut your lanyard material a little longer to make tying the snake knot a little easier- then trim the tag ends exactly where you want them to be. At current Amazon prices for the brown Latigo leather lace, it is only about 3 cents ($ .03) per inch.

It serves a purpose on knives like the CRKT minimalist series, you mentioned that wasp thing I have not seen yet, but I guess it is the same thing. It actually is in the way sometimes. I own a Victorinox rescue tool and using the glass saw, it dangles around. That's the problem with multitools that have tools on both ends of the handle. I tend to only upgrade my edc with lanyards and beads when I get bored. If I don't get the stuff out properly, it's time to rethink the way I am carrying. I would rather invest more money on my gear than on a bead, but that is just me. Good vid as always, man!

  • @GIJoeFactotum

Just an FYI. When I fist started putting lanyards on my folders it was purely for utilitarian purposes. When I hunted I would usually carry a longer bladed fixed-blade and a folder for gutting and skinning the animal. The fixed-blade I would use for initial cutting, but then I'd start using the folder once I got into the cavity and then for skinning. Sometime I would need to go to the fixed blade to chop through some bone. That left me with a bloody folder that I didn't want to put down in the dirt, so I would usually add a simple lanyard that merely consisted of a simple loop of paracord. This would allow me to hang the folder (still open and bloody) from a snapped off tree branch next to where I'd be gutting/skinning the animal.
Later on I started doing knots and beads, but even now, if it is a knife I plan on using for skinning I'll make sure to include a loop so that I can easily hang it from something next to me, while I'm doing the work.

Just a helpful suggestion: it would be easier to see what you are doing as far as making knots with paracord if you had a bright color paracord and a white background. (Dark paracord is difficult to see when you are making movements with it and the background you used had a pattern, part of which the color of your paracord blended into).

Probably already mentioned somewhere and I'm late to the party, but for those who are in the woods or in nature in general, a blaze orange lanyard can help you find it if you drop it.

Where do you you usually get your beads from? Or can you recommend a site that has a pretty good deal?

Can't count how many times something i was working on or that needed to be cut was just out of my reach. I like my lanyards fist length so the index and thumb can grip the end of the handle scales when overeaching.

Don't buy off these guys, they use subliminal marketing and aren't trust worthy I'm sure.

I like that some people will put some para cord on them. Seems a little more useful than just leather

An 8-10 inch piece of Paracord with a Nut or other heavy object tied on the end makes a good tether for deep pockets, inside a Coat or Self Defense.

Steelie, electrical transformer, nut, stubby bolt, a die, a mouse ball, a golf ball, dead battery (maybe) Whatever you got you can wrap in a Monkey's Fist (specific knot)

Im sure lanyards have there place, as you have mentioned here on some of the equipment mentioned, and that’s fine. But, for me, if it’s not needed I’m definitely not putting one on just to make it look cool!

I like reflective paracord lanyards on my EDC, makes it easy to find with a flashlight. #Jigproshop has some really cool bad azz lanyard beads.

Yeah, it is like a zipper pull. Makes my tools easier to find, deploy, and grip. My knife lanyard bead is titanium and has a tritium ring. Almost everything I carry has a lanyard with a titanium micro pear carabiner. My front pocket wallet has a lanyard with a small decorative weight on the end. The "weight" can be a micro flashlight, a religious figure, or a toy. It functions as my other lanyards but additionally, it provides an extra bit of sensory security warning for pickpockets or accidental loss (like a dummy cord or wallet chain) and it is an effective and completely legal monkeyfist. Finally, one special longer lanyard hanging from my compass is my pace counter beads (always non-metallic).

In a emergency situation you can use the bead as sling shot ammo. Also if you use rubber you could make a sling shot
