Man ive been watching this video for years. Every time i get a new knife i forgot how to tie the knot. Thanks for this great lanyard idea. Ive also done it with 550 cord if anybody wants some color.

This helped me a bunch. My first knot was sloppy. I took it apart and tied it a second time. It took more time for straightening the flat wraps around each loop but looks much better.
    Thanks a lot.

I’ve read comments from 8 years ago. Tonight I tied two lanyards using your video. Thanks for taking the time to help us out.

No need to apologize for the length of the video, man! This is one knot that is easy to tie, but difficult to perfect. The extra detail you showed us helps a lot. It would have taken me awhile to figure this out on my own. Next time I'm in walmart, I'll be buying some leather laces!

A knife lanyard should be able to go completely around your hand over the front end of the handle, back over your hand to the back of the handle, sort of like a hand guard on a sword, this helps keep the knife from completely slipping out of your hand

I watched this video numerous times. I mean I know by heart how to make the hangman’s lanyard, I just like looking at different knives. I have a number of these lanyards on various knives I have I like them as I’ve grown used to using them for quicker retrieval. Appreciate the video, fyi each one I’ve made I rub hand lotion all over them for the first few days. Makes them super flexible/limber and my hands too have vast cuts on them.

Looking for inspiration for a leather lanyard for my new fixed blade and found your video. I added a distressed copper bead and worked the lace with glove oil for a few weeks before tying to exopodite the break in. I'm very happy with the results. Thank you

I really like the look of the worn boot lace leather. Not sure why you'd need it for a knife, with a pocket clip, but looks great on your slip joint. Then again, to each their own.

I find stretching the leather and rubbing in some boot polish with a cloth, makes the break-in quicker and the cord more pliable and easier to work with. Particularly if you want to tie knots like lanyard knots.

When you first get the leather I would treat it with a good leather conditioner first. This will soften the leather right away, and make it easier to work with.
It will also slightly darken the leather as well as protect it from cracking.

The black side that you talk of should actually be called the finish side as it is the finish side of the leather. That is the side that the hair is scraped off of in the leather tanning process.
