    This seems like a lot of progress for a devlog 0. I've been thinking about trying to make a 3D open world survival game and I don't know whether seeing this devlog has scared me about how much there is to do or inspired me to get started

    • @L3GITEnt

      Well if nobody else gives you the push to give it a go... TAKE A CHANCE AND GO FOR IT! Keep a big picture of the Final Game in your head, but don't rush the process. Break down each system into easy enough to understand chunks and take it step by step. I've been learning more and more as I go and I realized you sometimes just need to be okay with the level you're at and work on what you can until the breakthrough reveals itself naturally. Then one day you wake up and realize that HUGE Mountain of a System you wanted to make in the first place was made up of a bunch of cute lil Rock Solid Components. Now you've got a cool game and one hell of a journey to remember

    So you surprised me,you are making great things here. i cant wait to see more
    my sugestions:craft,survival elements and coop are great things... coop is something i wish to have on zelda botw and totk, i love the elements colors and shadings and cellshade style we have on botw..i am also developing an game but it is on unreal,im still learning all the basics stuffs
    Have an great week and sucess on your game,i will be following here on channel.

    Awesome stuff man, lots of progress for your first devlog. You have a lot of talent and I think your process is solid, especially with the experience you have. Some unsolicited advice (because I learned this myself), is be careful how much you lean on your inspirations. Its always a good starting point. But you will need to figure out how your game differentiates itself from Zelda game design concepts. What is going to make your game special? Rather than trying to make a Zelda copy-cat. Because ALOT of people are trying to do the same thing you are right now. If you want it to be successful and to stand on its own, explore that ideology as you continue to develop. Stoked to see how this turns out man!

    Great Devlog!
    Are going into detail in the devlogs on how your mechanics work? Like the climbing - is it procedural or with fixed points? I would love to hear how you tackel stuff like climbing, movement, combat, etc.
    Are you giving an insight on what assets you are using?

    • @anbagames
      @anbagames  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! :)
      The next devlogs will definitely be more technical and focused on a few topics. There's definitely more to come regarding the movement and combat system! Currently, climbing is achieved using raycasts, taking into account the character's viewing angle in relation to the wall, the height of the target platform, and whether there's enough space for climbing. So, no fixed points :)

    I will stay subscribed due to i have learned to respect what it takes really now to even make a game and wish and hate to admit i was such a hater of Dev's mostly due to not seeing the amount of work done but in this also found that most are just lazy and are not putting in the 100% effort to make a good game and that most do not even hear the real reason for such bad reviews posted due to we need more of this posted to give us both the right experience to respect each other that is the Developers and customers. Thanks for reading this post!
    Note: This post was sent to another Devlog that i have subscribed to and hope this will help both of us learn from past game issue that have been going on for a long time with dev's not fully understanding what we want this type of interaction will help address game getting bad reviews and make for both good games and great sales a win, win situation.

    Congrats with a successful 0th devlog! Here's an unsolicited advice to consider: Are the devlogs meant for other game devs? Or for your potential audience? When you spoke of the story/setting of the game, you still talked about the functions and roles of things, like saying The Isle of the Ancients will "serve as a tutorial", and next you talk about "learning the basics" and "finding the core items". These things are interesting to a game designer, or people who hold those interests, but not necessarily to a player. It's a good idea to consider if this is intentional, or if you want to change your video wording style (when talking about story or what's going to be fun about the game) towards something more like "you will face increasingly difficult challenges and gather equipment to help you discover the secrets of the Isle of the Ancients", without being explicit about "tutorials", "basics" and "core items". A lot of people who watch your devlogs may be your first wishlists, so consider appealing more to the players in your viewer base as well! /unsolicited-advice-over

    • @anbagames
      @anbagames  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a very good point that I haven't actively thought about so far. Devlogs have primarily had the individual effect of providing me with motivation, but I also enjoy talking about the progress of my projects. It makes sense that I should consider the target audience and different roles, although I haven't actually done so yet - so thank you very much for the suggestion.
      I follow 1-2 larger German channels that have found a good balance between being technical and appealing to the "player" audience. I think I need to give this more thought and adjust the script accordingly before a devlog.

      @@anbagames just so you are aware, there is also a large subset of people who enjoy watching these kinds of videos. People who are interested in game dev and the technical aspects, but they don't actually make games themselves and still enjoy the other aspects of the story/setting

    Looks great! I would suggest you to avoid using rootmotion and move and rotate character by code, this will save you a lot of trouble later. This may result in ditching certain mechanics, for example instead of slowly climbing up from ledge character will have to jump up from the ledge to stand up position, but believe, its worth it, especially if you're solo developer and it's a passion project. Fingers crossed!

      Thanks for the tip! Yes, I do have some issues with root motion. I'm currently working on revamping the ledge climb, maybe I can show that in the next devlog :) Apart from the ledge climb, I haven't used root motion.

      @@anbagames Good! Consider making ledge climb ,,jumpy" as in Mandragora or Jet Kave Adventure, this will save a lot of time when iterating animations or balancing time this state lasts - and such mechanic can rise a lot of arguments when testing. Even If you aim to make it look ,,realistic", think whether is it worth it to put time into it voluntarily, while balance and iteration will come obligatory.

    Looks promising! Clear goals and direction. What software do you make 3d model there?

    Having raw build with simple place holder is not easy job. But worth trying out the good game play and combat which is important before moving forward.

    Make it so if you beat the games main story or main quests make unlockable side quests and boss fights that pay good rewards based on performance

    Awesome stuff, do you also plan on making the game music yourself?

      Thanks! I'll probably commission the music, but not right away
