As a teenage gearhead without any parental support in the late 1950s and 60s and I got my car passion fix by spending all the time I could at places where hot rod type work was happening. So, I picked up a lot of neat tricks from guys who had greasy hands.
One trick that I learned was taking a 6 foot chrome exhaust tip with belled end on it
and use it as a steering column cover an d thus have chrome steering column for about six dollars.
( also, bearings or bushings were slip fit at both ends)

We used to buy Massey Ferguson tractor mufflers for $11. they were a sort of glass pack design that came with a handy length of large diameter pipe. great for making duals on the absolute budget.

What a treasure you have Matt. So much better than buying one “off the shelf”. When you get done there will not be one square inch of the 34 that you have not massaged in one way or the other. Nothing like Iron Trap and morning coffee to start the day. 👍☮️

I worked in a battery store for over 5 years, I like your use of the welding cable. As for the terminals, ALWAYS use solid lead, (or brass, if you can find them), clamps, (NOT cast junk), and stainless steel wingnuts, and spray them with di-electric anti-corrosion grease, rubber or plastic clamp covers are also a good idea.

Hey Matt, great to see another video, I remember the Cal Custom stuff very well, I remember going to Gratiot Auto Supply(1975-76) & looking at all of the neat stuff hanging on the wall that I couldn't afford, Cal Custom rocker covers, coil covers, plug wire looms etc......Ya know if I wore a white T shirt out in the shop it probably would be the last time I wore it(Lol)!! The Wife & I will save our white ITG "T" shirts to wear at a car show or maybe the Woodward Dream Cruise if it happens this year, we ordered black T shirts so I could at least wear mine to work...Anyway looking forward to seeing Andrew working on his car, maybe should start calling his car the forgotten T?? Be safe, stay healthy!!! Build on Dudes!!

This way NO shorts ,no sparks , ! Put a rubber boot over + positive terminal ,not touching metal cover if bouncing on road !

How cool was that Matt sitting in those beautifully upholstered seats and firing the old '34 up from the dash? I'd say it's nearing resurrection for the forgotten Ford. As always, I can't wait for the next episode no matter what vehicle is being worked on. I hope you, yours and all the Iron Trappers are healthy and safe and cheers from an old retired coot living in Tennessee.❤️👍😷🍻✌️

Matt, you should seroiusly consider putting the Main inline fuse where the wire its on meets the battery for safety...If the wire insulation rubs through on grounded metal between the battery and fuse under dash the whole wire could melt and catch fire...Placing the fuse at the battery prevents that type of nightmare. Newer cars took this safety concern into account by placing a fusible link on the battery end of the line from the fuse panel.

Great video! It's good to see the blending of a little modern tech with the old to upgrade without losing the original patina (I hate that word). You need to teach Kate to shift while you drive so you don't have to take your arm off the back of her seat. I did that with my girlfriend in High School and she even got pretty good at speed shifting when we got into a little stoplight to stoplight action LOL. Keep at it, you're on the downhill slide.

Hi Mat. I'm binge watching your videos so you might not read this. I've worked with electrical systems in the past. One idea that might be useful is to use tools that are insulated. You can wrap the shaft of the tool with electrical tape or buy electrical rated hand tools. Could save you from a nasty shock or seriously amazing and unintended welding operation :-) Car is looking great.

I also used welding cable for my leads on my 47 coupe but had to put the battery in the boot due to a previous owner fitting a smooth firewall.... luckily I had just decommissioned a roll forming machine at work and was able to use the old vintage looking conduit to cover the cables... my cables were bright orange and didn’t really fit the look I’m going for...ha ha ha

I love your videos- enjoy watching the progress on your cars. However, I think that the fuse in line with the fuse holder is redundant- it is right in front of a bunch of fuses, so it is really not needed. Plus if it blows, it kills everything. Also, your primary wire running from the battery to the fuse block looks small. If you add the current draw of all the fused items together, you can size the wire to match. You may have done this already and are fine with what you have. It just looks small in the video but I am used to wiring more complicated cars that have a greater number of branches.

Tough to appreciate just how much effort goes into doing a "little wiring" - I bet you were in and out of the car 20 times just to get a couple of the wires run, and get the tools you needed, and get the shrink wrap, and set up the heat gun, and on and on. Sometimes the "simple" jobs are the ones that wear you out the most. Also sounded like you could use a couple of good old "Cherry Bomb" glass-packs!

Matt's hardly cramped. There's tons of room in the car.
