Love the flavor of this deck. Really feels like a Cabal army marching across the field...well except for Karn, but maybe he's "corrupted" again? Old planeswalkers are terrible about sticking to a side.

This would be a good video play through just to see how well Josu and Belzenlok actual hold up against other control decks especially Super Friends and U/W. Great looking deck.
I vote to see you play this one. I love mono black and want to see Dread Shade in action. I actually like the idea of running a couple of Azor's Gateway and I'd also want to put in a Torment of Hailfire or two. :-)

i mean mono black devotion wasnt that long ago and ran almost exactly and ran exactly the same split of 16 creatures, 4-6 card advantage cards, and 14-20 removal or disruption, i think the only reason it may seem more aggro is it had good lands and its 2 and 3 drop creatures could win on their own so the decks had the same idea mbd just also could just win off packrat or an unanswered nightveil pretty quick.
I'm surprised at the lack of Treasure map...seems great with 4 Karns. I think you want to either go with Azor's Gateway and make tons of mana and include Aquisition....or the other possibility is Treasure Map + Karn's and go a little smaller on the mana. Both Map and Gateway to me would seem to natural includes to help with the card advantage and also adding artifacts for Karn...also Dark Bargain isn't the worst draw spell ever if you wanted to include Liliana and go without maybe the Karn + artifact packages.
With all the removal it's really good against aggro, I think it's got much less game against control. Would need to see it! I love to be proven wrong, play this please. Control is my favorite archetype!
Dread Shade is not close to unblockable, more like block it or risk taking a huge hit. I think what you mean is it's very good in combat but referring to it as unblockable is misleading.
Yeah, hopefully the point came across. It's not literally unblockable, but it often plays that way (since you can always pump it to make the blocks awkward).
The shades die to nearly ever removal in the format that isn't red, no ways of recurring it from the graveyard in mainboard. Some of those Duresses should be main board IMO.
Sebastian Shammer Field of Ruin isn't really good in the current Mono Color meta. Only specific nonbasic lands people even play are Azcanta and Scavenger Grounds. And yeah, you don't want to look at Dread Shade in your hand when you keep drawing colorless sources, so this deck doesn't even want it.
Field of ruin replaces itself with a basic. Also 2 dominant decks being mono does not a mono color meta make. Duals, hub, deserts and the utility lands are all prominent targets. The only real nombo here is dread shade so one or two is perfectly reasonable with 23 black sources.
This deck doesn't seem very spicy, where's the azors gateway/torment of hailfire package, it just seems like josu vess, demonlord belzanek, and the shade are the only mono black exclusive cards

chuck stevens yeah I personally have 1 so I'm going with that with up to 3 azor's and go for more control options with 2 acquisitions since we have all the mana you could want.
Obviously they are important and that's why you give context to the deck in the video, but basic lands don't have text and all mtg player know what they do. You are not even showing the effect of Cabal Stronghold (which I think is the most important land in this deck) by covering it with a Swamp.
I have a better version of this...this one has too many creatures in the main & also not nearly enough hand disruption or sweepers - no Yahenni's Expertise or Golden demise, no doomfall - nah….

Cabal stronghold seems somewhat weak to me, it needs 5 swamps on the battlefield to start generating extra mana.
I play with 4 Arguel's in the main, duress and divest, and torment of hellfire. I miss Necropotence okay??

IMO basic lands are fine in stacks of 4 but the rest of the basic lands should always be behind other cards
