Dominaria is finally here, which means rather than having a poll last week, we've now got a special episode showing off the power of the new set in Standard. If you're a fan of the Against the Odds poll (and Dominaria), don't worry-it's back at the end of the article and overflowing with sweet new Dominaria cards! So, "what are we playing this week?" I hear you ask. Oath of Teferi Superfriends, of course! While there are a ton of cards from Dominaria that I can't wait to play for Against the Odds, one of the most exciting is Oath of Teferi, which is sort of a mixture between The Chain Veil and Doubling Season, allowing us to activate our planeswalkers twice each turn! We can do all sorts of sweet things with the enchantment on the battlefield, from ultimating our planeswalkers super quickly to drawing tons of cards or keeping all of our opponent's creatures at bay with Gideon of the Trials and Dovin Baan. Eventually, we play Karn, Scion of Urza, make a few 10/10 Construct tokens, and kill our opponent. Plus, thanks to all of our planeswalkers and the legendary theme of our deck, we can also take advantage of some of the spicy new legendary sorceries from Dominaria! Can Oath of Teferi make Superfriends one of the best decks in Standard? Let's get to the video and find out!

MTGGoldfish make sure to submit that to magic that needs to be fixed.
Also deck looked super sweet just wish it wasn't 200$ lol because it looks so awesome to play
It was fixed a month after this was posted.
you all prolly dont give a damn but does someone know a trick to log back into an instagram account??
I was stupid forgot my password. I love any help you can offer me
@Bryson Miller Instablaster :)
You think they would've bugfixed Gideon by now, given the amount of play it sees...
I'm still waiting for the day that MTGO returns all my permanents to my hand, face-down.
Part of me wonders if one supersedes the other. It’s definitely a bug but just a weird thought I had
Austin Tanner according to the rules, effects that prevent things from happening take precedence over effects that do a thing.
If Gideon emblem only said you can't lose the game the approach would take presedence but seeing that it says your opponent can't win the game also then approach winning that game is not possible and a clearly a bug.
It's a feature
It took me half way through the video to realize we were playing in standard.
I was like "modern's meta REALLY changed!"
Who needs to kill opponents with Karn activations when you can just durdle them to death. This deck is so sweet!
36:47 Nice "Tezzerat"
Amazing deck and amazing command of a complicated deck. Knowing how to tick is complicated enough, but having to do that twice for each Planeswalker and needing to sequence across 3 or 4 Planeswalkers is damned impressive.
37:26 Seth trying very hard not to swear 😂
I loved how you called it the "Donovan Bane" is amazing!!!
I have always loved planeswalkers. I have the entire collection of them. I have been waiting for this set to ship so I can use my oaths! I have a casual walkers deck. 4 oath of nissa, 4 cryptolith rite, 4 unbridled growth, 4 deadly recluse and thornweald archer. 1 of each of the vivid lands, 4 nykthos, 15 forests, and the rest are planeswalkers of all colors. bolas, jace, teferi, sorin, any that either remove, or add creatures and can work to a winning ult. only good for casual play tho
I'VE BEEN WAITING ALL DAY FOR THIS, YES!! Finally time to see what your tweet is all about :3
Went too long? I could watch Against the Odds all day.
But but but... there’s no panharmonicon
its multiuse planewalkermonicon
Oh don't worry, I'm sure we'll be playing some Panharmonicon before too long :)
I like that they changed the legendary borders on the old creatures too. Good job mtgo
Donovan Bane makes me laugh SO HARD.
What about Donovan Blane?
Putting out videos faster than I can watch em. Love it.
In the match 1 game 1. Yiu thought you couldnt use urzas blast, but azcanta is legendary lol. Never change Seth
Good showing Seth, good show
This deck is a monster made of pure value.
That jund ramp deck looked sweet
Has anyone posted tounament results with this deck? Seth you dominated those kids but also didnt really have much of a challenging matchup
o m g . just watched round 1 game one for the moment. So powerfull its obscene !
being able to tap out to play teferi and having mana up for negate no matter what is pretty strong.
That monoblack opponent actually left Bontu's Last Reckoning in their deck in game 3, pretty crazy.
Yeah, that was odd, although they probably didn't have a good sense of what we were doing, maybe? I'm not sure what the plan was.
“Then we kill- NO!” Ahhahahaha that is great
I've been waiting over a week for this deck, since we talked about a Superfriends deck on the stream!
Your having waaaaay too much fun with this deck Saff lol
Corbin from TCGPlayer was playing Bant Superfriends and lost to the Gideon Emblem + Approach bug today too
Search is legendary!!! Seth!
Invoke the Divine is strictly better than decommission.
It's impressive how many times you mulliganed and wound up winning.
Urza's ruinous blast looks like one of those cards that can warp the format.
It's a wee bit good.
I think it's the most underrated card in the set. We've played two decks with it now and it's pretty close to "you win the game" for five mana.
I'm sure you know, but if you right click the permanent you can tell if it was played this turn or not.
Deck seems good but lets be hoenst here, you were facing a couple of experimental decks there. Need to see how it fares agaisnt decks like Ramunap red and U/B Control and things like that
No Seth, you didn’t lose to a modo bug. At minute 46:39 you could have pushed kambal, stopped opponent from gaining life. Fire up Gideon since you had redundant copies, get in for 4 and put pressure on opponent to kill them before they tried to win with approach. That was justice for taking forever to win a game you could have already won.
Maybe cut Decommission for Invoke the Divine, seems just better.
It's pretty gross that a Gatewatch planeswalker from a standard set is still bugged. It's not like it's a weird older card with weird interactions, it's a popular 3-mana mythic seeing play in Modern.
I suspect they dont make a list of potential interactions and test them all. It is not that hard. You just need to set up a game in debug mode, put the cards/effects/etc in play and observe results
@@diegocrusius I know this is an old video and you might not even see this comment, but I'd like to point out that Gideon and Approach are too commonly played for them to be able to just handwave it away. Sure, they might not have thought to test the interaction originally, but they're in the same block and the meta has made it clear that it's something that's likely to happen, so they ought to have tested it.
@@Krossfyre always appreciate constructive interactions. Why did you watch a vid on old standard? Just curious.
I won my prerelease by having Jaya karn and oath of teferi on the field so my card draw was crazy and I was burning my opponent and countering them, then I ultimated Jaya recast my wizard lightning and the like
This week on against the odds: against the wallet
50:31 your deck is so broken that broke even magic online.
Honestly, in my own testing, Teferi and his oath are REALLY good
And double Gideon +'s is a godsend with some seal aways...and some bindings...and some counters
tbh at that point, they are no longer playing and I'm in the second sun/Teferi ult/Gideon beatdown waiting room.
Also why Cast down over Seal away?
Kyle B because their Urza's Ruinous blast would destroy their own enhancements.
Not using Fatal Push to fizzle the Indomitable Creativity was very, uhhh, generous of you...
Also discarding a Fatal Push when that Fatal Push could be used to kill Kambal for the low low cost of one Etherium Cell...
I love how opponents scooped not from a lethal on board but from PURE VALUE! I will say this though I think that planeswalkers are the worst type of card magic has ever printed but this deck was insanely fun to watch do its thing but I think for the long term health of the game they really need to pull back on planeswalkers if not completely remove them from the game.
Raff Capashen seems quite strong in this deck. Can't activate planeswalkers on opponents turn but even just being able to Ruinous Blast at instant speed is ridiculous. Also holy crap that was awesome. Vile offering is gross in this deck.
Instant speed ruinous blast is great!
I'd really like to see an Against the Odds: Rat Colony. But I think Lich's Mastery is definitely more against the odds. So cool. So weird. I can see it going 3-2 for sure. Maybe go white black and you can't lose the game? How would that work?
I feel like this deck wants 1-of Settle the Score, for style points.
One Settle the Score could have worked. I'll have to test it out.
For the sideboard, Invoke the Divine is just strictly better than Decommission, yeah?
(50:50) Wow...
Maybe most people don't even attempt that. Good thing for your social media and TH-cam channels.
0:45 I needed new pants this decklist is heaven I'm so excited
That game 1 was BONKERS
I don't know if you can call this against the odds. You have a super expensive good deck here haha.
How many matches do you play until you post the best 5?
Have to watch out for anyone boarding in The Immortal Sun although that's pretty unlikely. I guess Decommission will handle it if Fragmentise and Ruinous Blast don't
Love your content Seth keep it up
Can you post the full version? I would like to see the other games.
I watch this one twice in a row it was so good
46:59 THIS DECK PLAYS URZA?! PogChamp
Time to invest in Hour of Devastions... I would hate to sit across the table from this.
14:18 Maybe there is still hope. I am not sure if this wasn't accident.
Impressive deck Seth ^_^
The approach win was confirmed a bug and was fixed a month after the video was uploaded
Dont understand why set never ended up actually blinking the planeswalkers to reset their loyalty. I feel like that would have been work it to do instead of doing it on treasure maps
That NO is the loudest I've heard Seth be.
Seth you ever get a feeling you came up with a deck so strong you want to keep to yourself and just show up at a GP?
why Decommission in the sideboard? isn't Invoke the Divine just strictly better?
Isnt’t invoke the divine just better than decommission?
Yeah, it is. Oops!
I'm pretty sure you Punted in the first match game 1. You kept saying that you couldn't fire off Urza's Ruinous Blast with out a legendary as you had Search for Azcanta on the battlefield
Yeah, the legendary sorceries need a planeswalker or legendary creature :(
That's unfortunate. I thought you only needed a Historic spell.. I guess reading the card explains the card hahahaha
This deck seems great but i think it needs a better answer to the Scarab God to be available in competitiv standart
Vraska's Contempt!
Is this how you broke standard?
if this becomes a real deck there will be some bans lol
It`s not that he actualy played against an actual Tier1-deck besides Black Aggro
That was so much fun to watch!
How long until we get a "You may activate loyalty abilities abilities of planeswalkers you control as though they had flash" ability?
Like this one? gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=389712
YUP Teferi and Teferi are ridiculously broken BFFs.
Oh jeeze, my bad lol. Seems dumb but fun
probably haven't seen it because it was printed in a commander set so its not legal in modern or standard
Ya it's definitely the first time I've ever seen it. That emblem is wild
Why didn't you add some Settle the Score for the sweet +2 loyalty counters? :0
In a world of enchantment removal, sure urza's ruinous blast seems busted.
I am not english native speaker, sorry for my miswriting.
pinicola89 no need to say sorry :)
He wasn't even mocking you. He found your typo really funny.
How do you deal in matchups where people actually play creatures. I hate to say it most of these match ups seemed favored with none of them being agianst red green monsters, mono red or even a U/B control.
We've actually got a lot of removal, and Urza's Ruinous Blast, and all of our planeswalker activations.
37:41 What's up with that hub I play energy on mtgo and mine never looks like that..........i currently don't have internet so If it's an update I may not have it
It's definitely a bug shown on other videos. Report it so they can fix it.
They won't fix it.
they probably will fix it because gideon still has a while in standard and sees a bit of modern play
They probably will fix this one, since it impacts Standard. It's usually the random old card bugs that take forever to get fixed.
But them fixing them would make sense. Not something you should expect from magic online.
50:55 Should have been "we finally scumble…" :)
I made a version using red for Jhoira and Chandra, but this version might just be better
Red sounds sweet :)
doesn't search for Azcanta allow him to cast Urza's ruinous blast?
Why run Decomission over Foresake the Worldly? You usually run Foresake in decks like this
I would *not* be surprised if Urza's Ruinous Blast got banned somewhere down the line.
Put in primeval glorious rebirth
If there isn't a green stompy deck or RDW. this deck is going to be a menace.
LOL Seth does not like Karn's name apparently. He calls him Teferi once, Tezzeret twice and Urza as well.
Is amazing that everytime Wizards try to stabilize standard gameplay, they broke it and overcompensate the control side. Is like they do not have any control over the cards they will pop out to the market.
Well, not that Super Friends aren't powerful, but I'm skeptical of this sample: weak decks, bad draws, loose plays. Was this a Friendly League?
Watching this kinda turned me off of the concept a little- which I'd probably test as Bant anyway. The Nissas beating down with 5/5 lands sound like one of the best ways to capitalize on Oath of Teferi.
agree!!! bant superfriends might just be better!
Friendly League and Competitive League are virtually the same. Competitive league does not mean higher skilled players with better decks, it means larger prize pools for degenerate gamblers.
+johnnyandthepnuemoni Doesn't necessarily* mean that, agreed. I was a bit off. Still stand by all the rest, though.
Is there a glitch with Karn? Why does he show all cards revealed? It seems like they just add the each reveal to the previous. Are those just the ones with silver counters?
The deck was sweet, but does it belong in Against the Odds? It seems like you need another sometimes series for good non-budget decks.
It felt more Against the Odds going into it, when I didn't have any idea if we'd win at all or not :)
How are you not playing Djeru? You can flicker it with Oath and search up another planeswalker.
Might be able to squeeze it in as a one-of but we already have a lot of five-drops in the deck.
Urza's Urinous Blast OP.
The thing is oath of teferi doesnt go infinite like chain veil can
Chain Veil + Astral Cornucopia played for 12 mana or played for 0 then given 4 charge counters or Everflowing Chalice kicked 4 times costing 8 total mana or played for 0 and given 4 charge counters + Tezzeret the Seeker = infinite loyalty activations
Isochron scepter, drmaatic reversal any three or more Mana rock
Taylor Marcon only if your a rocks are sol ring or better
Christopher Combs nah like I said three Mana or more. Sol ring just taps isochron scepter and untaps anything doesn't net Mana. Mana vault or monolith give you infinite colorless and gikded lotus would give you infinite or any color etc. Only issue is you still pay life to activate chain veil. Two Sol rings could do it but there is no format with two Sol rings. This is usually a commander combo.
Taylor Marcon which is why i used a modern legal chain veil + everflowing or astral cornucopia + tezzeret the seeker 3 cards infinite loyalty activations
Taylor Marcon and you would never lose life as the stipulation is if you *DONT* activate loyalty and it only dings you for 2 at the end of your turn
Search for Azcanta doesn't count for legendary sorceries, right? It's only creatures and Planeswalker?
Elliott Canada Correct. Prepare for confusion at every LGS.
Yeah, only creatures or planeswalkers.
Everyone always asks me why I don't like cards like oblivion ring and I'm like "it's ok but I'd rather have something that isn't countered by Merciless Eviction".
Dear God, now that Panharmonicon is about to rotate please make Seth brew one last dance with it.
Next one's gotta be Tetsuko Rat Colony
Maybe I'm missing something but why run decommission in the sideboard over invoke the divine?
why not Settle the Score instead of Vraska's Contempt?
Why is this playing Decommission over Invoke the Divine?
couldve tezzy ultimate plus karn -2, that woud've been sweet
nevermind
Why no settle the score seems sweet in super friends
I sort of wise we played it as a one-of, just to try it out.
I don't get the win the condition for the main deck. Most of the deck is stall and drawing cards using the planeswalker
DeusDoku Planeswalkers have abilities called "ultimates." They are usually game winning on their own.
The planeswalkers get it done eventually.
Tezzeret's ultimate and Karn's -2 make a lot of pretty big creatures.
Isn't search a legendary enchantment? Letting you cast Ruinous blast? Or am I having a deep again?
Legendary Sorceries need legendary creatures or planeswalkers, it is nice that Search doesn't get blown up by Urza's Ruin Blast though.
