Dude I did that exact same thing. I was hoping the album would sound like the cover and it did. Best blind purchase I made and a important album for 14 year old me.
The first concert I went to was Fleet Foxes when I was in high school at the Hollywood Palladium in 2011. I still remember Robin Pecknold’s voice so clear, distinct and unique. There is just something so ethereal about their music and style that every song is a masterpiece. Definitely agree that it makes its own place in music history 👏🏽🤟🏽
YAY! That makes me happier since I prefer Grizzly to Fleet, glad that they are one of the indie tend setters (alongside flaming lips, MGMT, Vampire Weekend, the XX).
I was intrigued to learn that the album cover was a painting about Dutch sayings, so I thought I'd look up what they mean and if we still use them. So here it goes: 3:55 "only after the calf has drowned, is the well muffled" AKA people only take action after an accident has already happened. (Which is still used) 3:56: "to tie the devil to a pillow" AKA to always know how to handle everything (never heard that one) 3:58: "to go to confession with the devil" AKA reveal secrets to the enemy (never heard this one either)
There's another connection. Pecknold said that his favorite album is Astral Weeks and that the free feel and fresh sound recording influenced him. For me Fleet Foxes is one of the best albums of this century not only decade, it's mystic, pastoral, beautiful.
Here’s my list of what I wanna see them cover At the drive in- Relationship of Command The Cure- Pornography or Disintegration DJ Shadow- Entroducing Portishead-Dummy Minor threat-first two seven inches The postal service-give up Sunny day real estate- Diary
My go-to soundtrack when I read comics or books set in the medieval period or medieval fantasy, along with John Fahey. Hey, you should totally do John Fahey sometime!
it's one of my favorite albums of the past 10 years. it felt so fresh and dream-like as it was a record riddled with organic ideas in an age where everyone is using laptops and such. unfortunately, it would later spawn an era of bad folk-pop music.
Please do any of these next: Pink Moon, Weezer (Self-Titled), Spiderland, Screamadelica, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, Hounds of Love, The Glow Pt. 2, Oracular Spectacular, Madvillainy, Man on the Moon: The End of Day, Emergency & I, Diary (SDRE), Chocolate and Cheese, Toxicity, Soundtracks for the Blind
I remember buying this CD at Target when I was 14, just because I liked the cover art. Best blind purchase I ever made.

Ragged Wood-one of the best songs ever made
I'm a Quiet Houses kind of guy.
The first half already hits me... then the second half blew me away. What a band.
Best Fleet Foxes album and example of harmonizing voices of recent times. Truly a cornerstone of folk music
The Fleet Foxes demo is absolutely spectacular too
This album is so nostalgic for me. It gives me a feeling that very few albums ever have.
It's not a pitchfork review of fleet foxes if they don't mention father john misty at least once
he looks so fed up in the picture like... "save me white jesus"
Modern classic

Fan of Fleet Foxes and enjoy all their albums, but 'Crack Up' is my favourite.
The songs on crack up just roll into one another and compliment each other so well it’s like an amazing grand song cycle
Please do Pink Moon 🙏🙏, that's gonna be awesome

Dang this album is 10yrs old?
I saw them open for Matt Pond PA in 2008. The LP wasn’t even out yet. Awesome band.
As amazing as this album is, it also brings back memories of being a very sad and awkward 24-year-old. I don't feel nostalgic for 2008 at all.
Earl Lemongrab what did you do to move past that?
I am currently a sad and awkward 22 year old. Please send help and prayers.
