I died when I heard that
I finally heard Pet Sounds in its entirety. It is great.
And like all great art it will reveal more to you on each subsequent listen and will mean different things to you as you progress through life...

their album “friends” is an absolute classic as well
OK Computer and Pet Sounds are like two examples of a perfect album. Seriously.

If you havent checked out the J Dilla album Pet sounds: The key of Dee - I totally recommend it for any major pet sounds fans out there. you can find the album on youtube.

Smile would have been the greatest album of the 60's, even beating out Sgt Peppers. (And i'm obsessed about the beatles, so that's saying something
I completely agree. Nobody is a bigger Beatle fan than me. But SMiLE is the greatest accomplishment in rock music history.
I'm a monstrous Beatles fan- ask me any trivia question and I can spout-off answers all day, but I can say with honesty that to me, "Pet Sounds" is worth the entire Beatles discography.

Without a doubt , it's on another level altogether just like Love's' Forever Changes' both my favorite don't ask me to choose which one as that's not fair..and i would pick brian wilson as the best songwriter after bob dylan.
I don’t think SMiLE would have been really been excepted in the time of the 60s if it came out, it’s a lot weirder than any of the other stuff big acts like the Beatles were doing.

IMO greatest album of not only the 60s, but all time
+Bryan Figueroa Yeah it's a seerious possibility... however what it is strange it is that the best album of the year 1966 is already a hard choice to do... i'm not even sure if Pet Sounds fly over "Blonde on Blonde" "Revolver" & "Fifth Dimension" (avant-garde) albums...
Even "If You Can Believe Your Eyes & Ears" + "Face to Face" have great moments as well... i don't think it's an easy mission to choose a single LongPlaya and put it down on a throne
Starry&Bohemian the music between the years 1965-1969 produced is incomparable and will forever be unmatched
Bryan Figueroa well well i like the 70s as well... the early 70s were natural progression in many ways & many genres.. inspirations went in all directions... it was adventurous I've made playlists for 1971 & 1972 (among other years)
It was the psychedelic days... i plan to assembled a 65/66 playlist this week... it was half a century already

It’s impressive that pet sound was only recorded with three tracks. The last track being used for the mono mix. Sergeant Peppers didn’t need a little trick in Recording for tracks and then putting on them onto one track of a different tape.
Love the presentation and information. Don't need the movie projector sound effect throughout, though - detracts from some of the music clips.
I love the bit about the horse at the end ,,,,that's the sixties

"Wild Honey," "Sunflower" and "Surf's Up" are *not* "psychedelic" albums. I would only put the non-released "Smile" and the released "Smiley Smile" in that category. What's wrong with you?

It certainly tells a story more than Sgt. Pepper's does (if you minus Sloop John B).

Matt October lol, they revised it after they realize that it was a totally shit review, saying things like "On the other hand, a lot has happened for music since Pet Sounds. For instance, compare Pet Sounds to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, My Bloody Valentine's Loveless or Radiohead's OK Computer. To these young ears, Brian Wilson's masterpiece just doesn't stand up.". That shows just such an insane ineptitude for a music review journalist, and sadly the original 7.5 before it was changed was written by it's founder and CEO. The fact he is using Radiohead and my bloody valentine as a comparison to down play the album is insanely stupid given they are of entirely different genres, of a different time, and have different historical importance. A proper reviewer should be reviewing what it is. It's like reviewing a classic like 7 samauri and saying then comparing it to a action movie from the 90s or 2000s, they are totally different.
@@TheFamousMockingbird there are albums from that time that stay relevant or fresh tough, like dark side, i think that even if it was groundbreaking for that time, it hasn't aged well, if you grew up listening to all the stuff it inspired or other things released since then 'pet sounds' sounds kind of boring, at least is what i think

I do not care what anyone says, but sunflower and surfs up if not only 2 of the best albums The Beach Boys made. If not, better then pet sounds.
Lost interest in these guys since learning that they abused the animals at San zDiego zoo while promoting this album.
