Never knew this trick. Whenever putting the diaphragm back I tried to be very careful but could never be 100% sure it was properly seated. This is an awesome way to test!

You really hit some good issues with your students ! So many dealerships have parts changers representing as mechanics ! You are one hell of a teacher . I ve learned tons watching your videos! I just took apart a mikuni CV carb on a Polaris . Didn't know a dealer had supposedly rebuilt it . Well I cleaned and reassembled it and my slide lifts and drops ,but it drops fast ! The bike starts right up and runs but not well . When I give it full throttle the slide is not lifting. I am thinking I have something askew inside or possibly installed slide backwards . I've heard its possible to do . I am gonna try your trick blowing some air into carb. I was going to take it off again but I think I am going to try your trick first since its exposed! Thanks for your videos .

My bike had tipped I redid my carbs & fuel still got into airbox & oil 😱 then I watched this video & payed attention to what to watch for under the diaphragm .so with carbs in place ,I just took the tops off & made sure that the plastic piece above the needle was seated correctly & OMG no more fuel passing to air box. That little bit of a raise with the needle did it. Now an oil flush run it & new oil & life is good. Thank-You for this educated video sir 😊❤️🇨🇦

I tried your trick this afternoon! Blew air into carb ,no lift! Also I didn't have any suction sound when I lifted the slide by hand. Disassembled the carb and flipped the slide over . I had smooth side of slide facing toward intake and the side with 2 small round impressions on it facing air box! Reassembled carefully with smooth side facing air box and side with the impressions facing intake ! Suction sound was clearly heard when lifting slide . I blew air in with compressor and slide raised proportionately to amount of air I applied ! Quad is running great now and I have a CV Style Kiehn on my 87 FXR now so this was a good lesson learned .

Don't think it will work on your Mikuni. Mikunis are flat slide carbs. Not depression. They do not work at all the same way. The throttle will pull up the slide on the Mikuni and squirt gas in. There are other TH-cam channels where you see the difference.

I have learned 2 things now since first watching this. First, you can just blow a small amount of air from about 6" away to make this work, that way you're not blasting a ton of air into the diaphragm. 2nd, I was having a hard time getting the cover on the carbs properly because those diaphragms just wouldn't cooperate, like you needed 4 hands. I found using one hand to hold the slide up about 3/4 of the way (or putting an object into the throat to hold it up) made it very easy to get that diaphragm seated so you can get the cover on. Worked every time.

Great information, I just came across this video and your channel. I have a question about my 2001 Yamaha Raptor 660 single cylinder with dual Mikuni BSR33 carbs. I rebuilt and cleaned them thoroughly as they sat for many years and were very nasty. I inspected the diaphragms - they’re in good shape and they both operate smoothly, and make the suction sound that you demonstrate, but when I run my engine and blip the throttle only one slide seems to operate, and the other stays mostly closed. I know that the RH (looking from top and forward) carb only leads to one valve with a small connecting channel to the other valves, and the LH carb goes predominantly to the other two valves. It’s a 5 valve head. What would cause this? Is this a load issue? Or is it simply because the air stream velocity for the RH carb is much greater due to feeding two intake valves? I have a video I made that I can share if you want. Thanks in advance.

Hi KG...sooooooo many requests just can't hit them all. We have a member (join) button now so the comments bypass all and hit me first...It's been years since I did Raptor carbs and recall something differenent about them. I'd have to grab a manual and look into so I don't guess...

I have a timely question Please & Thank-You . The plastic octopus that stirs over the needle, you showed to not have plastic ridges rest on ridges inside under diaphragm. Now if ridge on ridge could it elevate the needle enough to allow fuel to pass through into the airbox overflow. Thank-You 🇨🇦

Will this cause a rough idle and make the bike run rich if there is a small hole or tear in the seal?

    • @How2Wrench
      @How2Wrench  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hello Adam...first off it cannot reused. Next the answer is tough to tell as there are two things going on when a tear prevents the slide from lifting as designed. 1. The center slide prevents correct (enough air or restricks) from going through the carb and also reduces fuel being lifted up the too. So this alone causes a rich and lean theory. 2. The needle is not lifted form the center needle jet hole and restricts fuel.
So what I always do when chasing a rich or lean condition is to make everything as right as possible first (hence replace the torn slide or any off-nominal conditions) then re test drive to see what state the mixture is in with all known things present.
👍 Thank you for taking the time to comment! It helps us!

My mikuni 34bs carburettor slide goes up, but on way down pauses half way. Not sure how to go about fixing it. When I swap a different slide, it goes down with gravity but 2x slides out of 4 seem to be rubbing along the bore. Could it be that it needs fine gritting? The bike was a restored after 6 years stopped. Has been running and has done 5k miles but giving running issues therefore I am here at it

I have a '83 Suzuki GS750E & it's in mint condition but it has major running problems...worse than COVID!!!
Hard starts, runs erratic & would not throttle up!!! The bike has good compression on all 4 cylinders.
I've checked the ignition system - Ok. Removed the 4 carbs (stack) & installed new carb kits & adjusted the floats. Just to let you know it is not a simple job on this bike but I'm embarrassed to admit I did this 4 times with no success!!! Even checked the slides & all 4 work just like in your video (the vacuum effect). What I noticed while the engine struggles to run is that the #2 & #3 cylinders are running cold @~ 110F while #1 & #4 are @~275F+. I swapped out the ignition coils & spark plugs with same results as above! #2 & #3 seemed fu*ked!!!!
I've run out of ideas & just about had it with this bike!!!
Any ideas before I take it to the wreckers???
