@@CaptainRetriever It depends on whether it is considered navigable by the USCG and then whatever state laws you might have. For example Lake Texoma is considered navigable because it connects two states. Otherwise in Texas if it is non-navigable no license is required. (Although I will say I prefer it for our captains or similar experience and put then them on the license track.) For charters a Party Boat Operator License is required of operators of charter vessels (excluding sailboats) carrying more than six passengers and with a length of 30 or more feet, operating on inland waters. That requirement is exempted if you have a USCG 6 pack or higher. Other states probably have other equally random requirements.

Are you required to be a USCG Captain to work as a tower or does years of boat experience suffice for TowBoatUS?
I’ve heard the lake towers don’t need it, but in saltwater we need a capt license & tow endorsement..
Pretty sure you need Captains License and towing endorsement in fresh water, you are required to have it if you take charters.
