Love the passion for an old love, especially a Frenchie.................. :-) As you know, I share a love of old classics and they should be used, shown off, cared for, invested in and taken care of. So pleased you got it back on the road, so much character that doesn't exist in modern cars, however much better they are with safety and comfort. Great vid!!!!
Brings me back, bean can with engine very apt. Late 87 was was black cost me £6,800 in 1989, remember the 1.9 GTI was much different heavier no lag but not as much punch, The 1st gear torque steer was always fun. Pretty cool ride for a 21 yr old in 89!
had one of these in in white on a j .. rapid car.. i used to blow subarus on a daily with it.. they go for big money now.. quite a popular car in birmingham uk.. my mates usd to have the raider in blue
A special place in my heart indeed: my dad had its predecessor, the 5 Alpine turbo… also a little but very fast car that could compete with the more expensive Golf GTI. He almost bought this 5 GT Turbo when it came out because it looked soo beautiful. And it was much faster so it could beat the GTI… however one could blow up the turbo in the first version. Second version came indeed with the watercooled turbo and were more reliable… Great that you can still enjoy these small hot hatches!
Had many R5's through the family over the years and my first car was a 1988 R5 TL in the late 90's. Our generation Max Powered far too many great cars back then. Sadly I've never owned a Turbo or any of the 1721cc engined models. I grew up around 5's and then listed after the Clio when they came out. I can't afford a good example of either these days but I'm very much enjoying my 1997 MK1 phase 1 Mégane Coupe, even though it's not got an F7R under the bonnet.
Yeah - there's a surprising amount of the 1.7 conversions on R5s, I think most looking to keep them now want them as close to original as possible. I love a Clio too - especially the Williams. The V6 was pretty good to look at although apparently not that great to drive!

For sure! It's all about the character - it seems the less car there is more the character comes out! Keep them going as long as we can!

That is quite the ride for a 21 year old in '89. It's close with the 205 but the R5 gets my vote...

@@TABonTV The V6 is said to be a handful, especially pre facelift versions. I've driven a MK2 Laguna with the V6 engine. It was very very nice.
