Why Everybody Loves The Renault 5 GT Turbo

In this video, I look at the much loved Renault 5 GT Turbo. I've taken a look at a fair few reviews of the R5 and decided that, rather than highlighting it's flaws and age, I would try to celebrate as best as possible, exactly what it is that makes the R5 Turbo so special.
The key thing here is nostalgia. People look back on this car through rose-tinted glasses and sat behind the wheel nearly three decades on, it's easy to see why.

I got my F reg from new in 1988. Reluctantly sold it in 1993 due to a growing family. Since then I've had a number of prestigious cars but the 5GT was always my favourite fun drive. Currently have a 997.2 S which is great but too many traffic cameras nowadays . .

Great video on a great car, I remember when these came out, I so wanted one, but I couldn't get insured on it in1990 as a 17 year old. since then I have bought 2 other icons from that era, but have never managed to get one of these, I would love to get one to complete the trio of cars I loved from the 1980s :)

Had a red one of these,bought it in 1991 a 89 model with only 16 thousand miles on it moving up from a fiesta 1.4s it was between this and a mark 1 uno turbo,I can remember back in the day these two were seen as more hard-core than the rs turbo,lovely car.Am 50 now and got an ep3 that I've had for 12 years mainly because nothing else jumps out at me and don't want to regret selling it,like I did my little r 5

Love it! Also, the EP3 has always looked like a fantastic car. Never driven one sadly, but would love to. May as well hang on to it now! NA hot hatches are a thing of the past and should be treasured.

I had my G reg for 12 years from 1991. It was still in fabulous condition when i sold it with 92 000 miles covered .

Totally correct.Driving a 250hp car now..doesn't feel as fast as the R5..still is 2 sec faster too 100 and does 120mph like yoir sitting in a couch..damn I miss my turbolaggy skiddy r5gtt😁

Modern cars with their abc/tcs/airbags etc cant encapsulate the feeling of imminent death should you fuck up when tearing around in car that weighs less than a roller boot, your arse 6in from tarmac separated only by 3mm steel and some carpet.....legit pocket rocket
