  • Anyone who follows my car purchases and experiences on the channel knows how much love I have for the Lincoln Continental, especially when it comes to my 1968 model Coupe, aka - 'Abe. With my latest purchase of 'Mary Todd - a 1960 shape Lincoln Premiere Landau though, the drastic changes but at the same time impressive similarities between each generation of these fantastic cars becomes incredibly apparent.
Lincoln has never really occupied the same spotlight in the classic American scene as Cadillac, but from my experience they are genuinely at least as good, if not better in certain cases, than not only Cadillac's, but even worldwide contenders even at the level of Rolls-Royce and Bentley.
So in what seems to be an ongoing quest to become the younger British version of Jay Leno's Garage, let's take a walk down memory lane to bask in the sheer opulent beauty of this third generation Lincoln Continental platform in all of its wonderful Americana excess - let's review the Lincoln Continental Premiere Landau!

Love these Lincoln’s - true luxury for the time and they weren’t afraid to try new shapes, designs and fittings in,Ike the Rolls and Bentleys of the time which still retained pre-war styling and even engineering.

This era of Premiere and Continental are good examples of what Leno has called ‘kinetic artwork.’ There’s a presence these have both going down the road and even sitting still that is genuinely difficult to find in new cars today.

This was how we looked just before the switch to suicide doors and four-door ragtops!

Driving that wide a car on the left side on a two lane road is something I wouldn't even attempt.

Haha its not that bad tbh, especially because you can get so close to the kerb with more precision. That and oncoming traffic tend to get out of the way...

My Uncle drove the same model, but in black. As a kid, I would pretend he was my chauffeur, and to his credit, he actually played along once, and dropped me off at school wearing a chauffeur's cap. so My classmates were green with envy.

Very enjoyable as always. Also brought back memories from 1984 when a dear late friend of mine told me about the same as you expressed about Cadillac vs Lincoln. Lincoln was for those 'in the know'. I drove a 1957 Lincoln Premiere back in the 80's. Superb experience.

“Stankin Lankin” - 😂 I’m an American living in Europe now… my grandfather was a Lincoln guy and so am I… we had Al of the cars you have … but my favorite is the 1969 continental with the suicide doors … “Diamond in the back Sunroof top diggin in the Scene with a gangster lean”! Detroit in the 50’s and 60’s could not be beat! We built them like Brick houses! Thanks for the American Car love! 🇺🇸

I LOVE Lincolns. Have owned a 1977 Town Coupe, 1978 Continental Mark V Diamond Jubilee, a 1988 Lincoln Town Car, a 2003 Town Car, and currently, (for the past 7 years), daily drive a 1997 Town Car.
My ideal would be to have a 1959 Lincoln Premier and a 1967 Continental sedan.
Enjoy your gorgeous cars and thanks for sharing them!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed your video. I have loved Lincolns for years and have always felt that they are the under dog. They aren’t appreciated as much as Cadillacs, but as I always say, nothing drives like a Lincoln.

Your Lincoln is gorgeous. I have a 58 Cad Sixty Special and a 59 Lincoln base model (used to be called a Capri). Love them both but the Lincoln is a superior car. That huge 430 for one thing. And for instance, the A/C. The cad is very much thrown together with wires and cables everywhere and it's not at all integrated with the heater. The Lincoln is fully integrated with one knob controlling everything, has 2 evaporators for cooling all areas of the car, and with all the hoses and wiring neatly secured and organized. The Cad is very feminine with rolls and boobery, whereas the Lincoln is very masculine with angles and shoulders. The Cad was period advertised with women in fabulous dresses and jewelry and next to nothing about the car, where the Lincoln was advertised with guns and engineering specs and as a driver's car. Two completely different approaches to the luxury market.

When living in the States in 1961 rode in one of these but it was the "Lincoln Capri " in pale pink , the shape was the exactly the same . Superb car . For me , my all time favourite American car was the 1958 Chevvy Impala convertible. 🇬🇧

Great video - couldn't agree more with your sentiments about these amazing old US cars in general, Lincolns in particular. I've owned many American cars and recently sold my 66 Thunderbird - Would love to replace it with a big 60s Lincoln! Here in Australia they're available but like in the UK, not in huge numbers.

In my country we get all US & some EU & JDM Explosive cars
And i think we agree more towards US gas guzzling cars 🥹
But in early 2000 Rolls Royce was a big thing
