  • Anyone who follows my car purchases and experiences on the channel knows how much love I have for the Lincoln Continental, especially when it comes to my 1968 model Coupe, aka - 'Abe. With my latest purchase of 'Mary Todd - a 1960 shape Lincoln Premiere Landau though, the drastic changes but at the same time impressive similarities between each generation of these fantastic cars becomes incredibly apparent.
    Lincoln has never really occupied the same spotlight in the classic American scene as Cadillac, but from my experience they are genuinely at least as good, if not better in certain cases, than not only Cadillac's, but even worldwide contenders even at the level of Rolls-Royce and Bentley.
    So in what seems to be an ongoing quest to become the younger British version of Jay Leno's Garage, let's take a walk down memory lane to bask in the sheer opulent beauty of this third generation Lincoln Continental platform in all of its wonderful Americana excess - let's review the Lincoln Continental Premiere Landau!

    Well done, sir.
    I’ve always loved Lincoln’s and I agree they are perpetually underrated, even here in the states.
    They are so undeniably good- they easy stand up with anything comparable.
    I’ve had many, many Cadillacs, Lincolns, and a Rolls.
    The 90’s Towncar is still the nicest to drive.
    One day I’ll get some 60’s examples, but having driven nearly everything there is- Lincolns are great.
    See if you can find a Mark VIII, easily stands with its European competition of the time, but sadly also was never a big seller.
    Just discovering your channel, I look forward to more great videos.
    Thanks!

    Ford was always known for it's torque. I have a '58 Edsel, and that things a beast.

    I agree that your conventional rear window gives the car much better lines than the angles breeze-through rear window. Here in Michigan USA, I still still a few old Lincolns on the road when the weather is fair, but rarely with the landau rear window.

      She was a beaut' for sure. Moved on from this one now as she was a bit too docile for my taste, but I'll never sell 'Abe, my '68 462 Coupe. Everyone over here loves it

    Speaking of American cars, I saw a super clean factory spec El Camino in South London today. Black body with chrome bumpers and window surrounds

      @@HSGAutomotive understandable, it wouldn't have any purpose for me either and would end up being a wasted investment. Although there is also a Toyota Alphard I've seen several times parked up in the area not too far from where I saw the El Camino, every time I see it I think of GT7 lol

    I love and appreciate American cars as much as you do. Maybe some of the jokes us Brits make about them are true, but the American car industry truly was ahead of everything else at the time in every possible way. I don't think British people appreciate these cars as much as they should, it especially annoys me when i see more mustangs then corvettes, i mean they both come in right-hand-drive, yet people don't want the corvette, but why?
    By the way, could you review a mustang? Since there's so many of them in the UK.

      I most likely will at some point yeah 👍 and yeah I’ve always been more of a Corvette guy than Mustang

    What a glorious car. These videos are oil and grease for the soul. Thanks.
    Hearing you compare Lincoln to Cadillac I came to remember that back in 1984 a friend of mine told me that those 'in the know' would choose Lincoln over Cadillac. Another friend of mine had a 1957 Lincoln Premiere back in the late 80's - early 90's. Marvelous car to drive.

    Great work here in this , car is simply an rolling piece of artwork. I've been a collector of 70s land yachts especially Lincolns. 73 Mk IV, my 78 Bill blass, 78-79 Continentals and even a 73 T-Bird which is really a Lincoln MK IV without the Jewelry.Now the car featured here is simply gorgeous especially with that gold roof and of course the cockpit on this beyond words. Truly Thank You.

      Cheers, and yeah she was probably the most beautiful car I've had yet. Since parted with her unfortunately, and from the feel of it I'd say the front subframe/axle was bent, possibly from a past impact, as she would try to shake herself to pieces at motorway speeds, plus both front wheels were about 3 inches closer to the passenger side than the centre.

      I would've bought you're Lincoln in a hot second. Never seen one with the Gold roof before. Next time if you ever come across anything like that Lincoln again PLEASE let me know. Nice finders fee for yourself. Thank You

    Hi there.. Great car, great beard! If I may, you're mis-identifying your car here.. the Continental and the Premiere are two distinct models. Of course they're basically the same car the Continental is the higher level, and has a different roof with the reverse-canted, opening rear window and different taillights. Not that your Premiere is any less-fabulous~ Hope you get lots of enjoyment from her!

    • @HSGAutomotive
      @HSGAutomotive  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All points covered in the review. Most people, especially UK viewers have no idea what a Premiere even is, so I keep the name Continental in the title as it covers both bases

    I've owned my 60 lincoln like yours but not a premier, for 43 years now. It's the base Lincoln. I've been told they are rarer than the Continentals. I never could understand why they sold so poorly here in the states. Along with the Edsel, Ford motor company lost a ton of money on those cars. Most people today seem to love them!

    • @HSGAutomotive
      @HSGAutomotive  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah its very odd, and the equivalent slant-light Rolls-Royce models rarely seem to get the same notes about negativity at the time despite being pretty ugly in comparison. But yeah for sure everybody absolutely loves this and rarely know what it is here in England
