I disagree. The new Doom movie is as low budget as it gets, but at least it tries to be a Doom movie. I have no freaking clue what the 2005 one was trying to be but I can tell you this, it ain't Doom.
24:06 I don't want to nitpick or anything, but technically there is fist fighting in Doom. Especially in the 2016 reboot, where you straight up beat demons to death almost all the time! That is true, but a majority of the fun of the game is killing the demons with awesome guns. To the classic game's credit, at least you had a weapon option when you ran through all your guns. No one just dies without taking at least one last demon with you 😎
Many people forget the Berserk Pack that exists in some levels that 10x the damage output of your fists, which could then take down Barons within 5-6 punches.
20:36 to 21:28 For those who don't know yet, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson used to play villains in movies before, to the point that one of his earlier movies was The Mummy Returns (2001) where he was the bad guy.
@@RedTail1-1 Yes, I am serious. Because in many of The Rock's earlier film acting roles, he used to play bad guys. But now, he's playing good guys more than bad guys.
I love your opinion, but sorry everyone I know loves the first person sequence. Yeah it's a hell of an overcorrection but I hadn't seen anything like it until that point, and it was actually kinda awesome. After the mountain of crap, the sequence was a nice surprise, if the only one.
@@SuperMurray2009 Silent Hill is a good one too. It stays faithfull to the games and is entertaining too. In my opinion that's the best video game adaptation.
I can't find anywhere that it actually is an abbreviation as far as in universe; Bio Force Gun appears to be something solely for the movie and te manual for Doom 2 calls it 'big frigging gun'. I always considered it a designation code for an experimental weapon rather than what it would have been called if it had gone on the open market.
FrankJ.J. Styles what if Dwayne Johnson was the doom marine while Nicholas Cage was the officer. That way we could have the Nicholas Cage freak out for when he turns into the demon while Dwayne Johnson be the hero.
I am surprised the haven't put that in the canons were batman and catwoman are not a thing ot in the canons were everthing is more comedic oriented like LEGO Batman........ It would give batman another reason to be afraid of catwoman as a thief and consider being in a relaionship with her a danger in a comedic series
But unlike DOOM 3... The movie version lacks Hell. Even DOOM 3 got that right with several journeys to hell and back. Sure, the movie took more from DOOM 3 then DOOM 1 and 2. Hell, DOOM 3 gave us the Cyberdemon as the final boss.
yeah but the fact still stands they compared the movie to the old doom games rather than the new and more recent Doom 3, a little bit lack of research there this time but oh well
Technically yes... But at the same time, the elements are taken more from the original DOOM series too. They took DOOM Guy's origin and combined it with DOOM 3's design for the demons. So the comparison is actually not a lack of research. The setting is similar too. Both happen on Mars and teleportation technology was involved. They even took a part from DOOM 2 and had a small invasion of Earth... just the UAC compound but its still on Earth. But lets agree.... DOOM (2016) was awesome! Make a movie about that one. The best designed demons and awesome weapons. DOOM Slayer is just as awesome as DOOM Guy.
I want a movie with DOOM Guy killing legions of demons in Hell while using every weapon from every single game. no need to set anything up... Just DOOM Guy killing demons. Its self explanatory lol
Mortally challenged does not make sense, though, as a demon is not necessarily immortal. Did you by chance mean "morally challenged", as demons are inherently "bad" by human and/or religious moral standards?
+Kode Kristian Except demons are immortal in the sense that they're perpetually long-lived. Also he meant what he said, which you'd know if you even knew about what he was quoting in the first place.
Living for a long time does not an immortal make. True immortality implies that nothing can kill the entity. All of existence could come to an end, but the immortal would remain, still just as much alive as before. Being unable to age (and thus being unable to die from old age) does not make you truly immortal as other things can still kill you, though this is often referred to as "biological immortality". Similar in one aspect, but not the same. UPDATE: Alright, so the comment was apparently quoting a statement in relation to Doom Eternal. Still, without context or proper signs of quotation, there is no reason to assume a quote is being made. As such, I responded to the comment as it appeared; as an original piece of content.
+Kode Kristian He's quoting the Doom Eternal 25 minute gameplay video that came out recently. Also by most definitions people view "immortal" just as easily meaning "can live perpetually" not "literally is impossible to kill" most of the time. So you now know perfectly well what "mortally challenged" would mean, and it's entirely accurate. Don't get semantic just to be obnoxious by saying "mortally challenged" (which is a joke phrase in the first place) is somehow inaccurate because there's two types of immortality, when the phrase is clearly referring to one of those types of immortality.
"Don't get semantic just to be obnoxious" So now you're trying to dictate my intentions, rather than trying to understand them? I am not saying it to be obnoxious, I am saying it for the purposes of providing an accurate image. For instance, I could also just say that "chocolate is deadly", which is correct for some species, but if I simply said that, most would presume I meant deadly to humans, which is incorrect. I should in this case add more context to clarify that I intended to mean that it is not deadly to us, or to clarify what I did talk about it being deadly to. Similarly, since "immortal" has far more meaning than just not dying of old age or natural means, one can be easily misunderstood if they simply call something immortal, while still intending for it to be killable by some means. As an eternal pessimist, I always assume the worst case scenario, so if I hear about an immortal enemy, you can bet I assume that my arsenal will be worthless.
@@zombified_pariah7720 Wow, I didn't think anybody would reply to a comment I left over a year ago. XD I'll say this, even if the infection made Dwayne grow like 20 feet tall, where's he gonna get the cybernetic attachments to become a Cyberdemon?

I remember thinking the first person segment of the movie, while cheesy, was probably the closest we'd ever get to anything resembling a video game movie...and then Wreck It Ralph happened, and I was happy.
I think so, its awesome, but people do complain about motion sickness, considering the whole movie is done in 1st person, but its pretty action packed and it doesn't pull back on blood and gore.
Shouldn't be that sad, he had to start with shitty action films before he made it to huge blockbuster action movies. At this time in his career he was still seen as the wrestler who wants to act. Now he's the biggest star in Hollywood and is know as the actor who used to wrestle. Being in a crap film like this probably got him a lot of publicity too.

The Rock is like Superman............. Now that i think about it, In fact that President Superman from Earth 23 Is Pretty much The Rock if he had had Obama's job and hair and Superman's powers
Haha say that if you actually meet the rock and piss him off enough to actually attack you.. (it WOULD take allot) but I'm pretty sure you would be intimidated by him
I don't know, I think Terry Crews lines up pretty well, too. Though then again... he's also a giant shredded dude who seems more interesting in being goofy and endearing than a generic badass. So the formula seems to work.
I really love that DooM 2016 has a slight reference to the movie in the form of taking a guy's severed arm and using it to open a security lock. It really could be a coincidence but it's too similar to not bring up
How to fix the movie DOOM: First, keep the intro. Second, keep Rock as the focus. Third, keep the action going; use it to create conflicts and problems, only giving the characters/audience just enough time to process what happened and what to do (Mad Max: Fury Road is a great case study for this). Keep the Gates of Hell from the game; show that it happened, just leave how it happened a mystery. Finally, let the Rock go crazy at the end, but instead of it turning him into the bad guy, make it more like a berserker rage. Let the fun be the adrenaline fueled carnage. Sound good?
The rock should have been the focus, them wanting to do a bad guy version of the rock actually undermined the entire movie in my opinion. They did a lot of really bad misdirection to try and make you think rock was going to be doomguy, to try and make the ending a shock. when really all it did was make the audience ask..."why is the rock acting like an asshole and suddenly the main villain of the movie 3/4ths the way through."
Then make it based off the 1993 version where he was just Doomguy. You can have it be nothing but cool action scenes with him fighting demons and the longest fights being the Hell Baron Brothers, the Cyberdemon, and the Spider Mastermind which he uses the BFG (actually Big Fucking Gun) to kill and have classic one-liners since the game was a love letter to action thrillers like Aliens and The Evil Dead. By God, this should've been the easiest movie to make cool, awesome, a memorable. How does Hollywood fuck up easy stuff? You actually have to make an effort to fuck this up
To be honest Doom was not based on the original game. It was based on Doom 3 which tried to be a more subtle horror shooter. And I'm sorry to say this film actually did a decent adaptation of that, in that it was slow, pretty dull and only occasionally had interesting bits.
i liked it too, it took about five viewings to make that decision though, it wanted to be a horror but the studio wanted an action movie and well we got neither but it is very like doom 3, complete with being unable to see anything and far too much infodumping, archaeology and cod-science. But i did appreciate the lack of a romantic subplot!
Doom 3 was awesome, it had just as much action as the first game with some cool modern (for its time) mechanics. How dare you compare Doom 3 with this piece of shit movie
Stuff Karl Urban into a proper green DOOM space marine suit (complete with opaque visor) and get the guy who directed Dredd to make a proper DOOM movie that's nothing but 130 minutes of non-stop demon killing action. That's how to make a proper DOOM movie!
There's nothing about this idea that I don't love! And he can only communicate in grunts and growls or single words. I would also accept addition of one liners, carefully chosen to be as epic as possible. All the dialog will be provided by other characters
Samuel didn't exist till 2016 but I see your point, I was expecting him to appear at least in his human form in the new movie but instead we got Betruger the old Doom 3 villain
Actually the siblings fighting makes sense. When he looks at her he is reminded of his parents and the life he pushed away, when she looks at him she sees someone who betrayed their parents and threw away all they gave him
It doesn't need to be bad if they finally acknowledge what is spirit of those games.. sloucher and heavy metal! If they like game acknowledge absurd nature of this series and parody usual tropes of creature-feature action movies and slashers (like the game does), then it could work. Yes, we probably would need focus more on side of the station crew with Doom Guy running around and destroying everything independently (and demons threatening him as slasher villain ;D ). But it could work.. though it is unlikely that Hollywood would be capable to hire proper team for that, an probably miss the point like always.
Fun fact, The Rock actually says the name of the BFG in the movie, it's just that they decided to give it a real name from the scientists making it. I was waiting for him to correct that, but he didn't. Oops.
Lots of guns are big fucking guns. The BFG was famous because the devs were like, no, it's not a nickname, this actually is called the Big Fucking Gun. It would be awesome to see some scientists give it to a Space Marine and actually tell him "This is the Big Fucking Gun, because even we couldn't bring ourselves to give it a boring, technical name. We have design proposals for the Big Fucking Gun at the Pentagon, signed off by Commandant Dicksmash McIroncock." That's the whole point of Doom; you don't half-ass it.
As someone who actually watched the behind the scenes making of this movie, I can tell they were trying to make it more like Doom 3 and make it more atmospheric. But they seem to have forgotten the atmosphere in Doom 3 focused on how alone your character was. Also, there was the fact that when you do get encounters, you'd usually get several back to back. And they actually kept the fact there's a portal to actual hell there. And the game still wasn't boring because the atmosphere had players wondering where the monsters will pop from. You know what? Let's just cut out the middle man and say they just wanted to steal the skins from Doom 3 cause they thought they looked cool.
Ya but atleast doom 3 had that awesome over the top doom-guy/Conan boot in ass main character the marines in this movie are two groups-dicks and pussies and if you seen team America you know where I'm going with this
MegaSoulHero We already have a really good one it is called “Wreck It Ralph! and it should have won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature over “Brave”!!
I still find it funny that the relationship between Reaper and his Sister is still symbolic of almost all sibling relationships. You love them, but sometimes you just wanna break their perfect teeth.
Heh, imagine if the grenade took the route of the wheelchair guy. As in The Rock landed on Mars-Hell, and the grenade in some harmless human colony. That'd be awkward, wouldn't it?
Hah, the way I understood the transporter accident, the guy landed wherever he was supposed to, and his ass was lost in space somewhere, forever floating among the stars. So when I imagine that grenade being misrouted, I imagine it materialising inside that guy's ass right before detonating. Yeah, I'm sick... :p
They put so much effort into making the Hell Knights and Pinky look like the in game versions, and yet they made the BFG blue... BLUE. Literally everyone who's played doom for more than 5 seconds knows the bfg is green.
The scene at 20:39 in my opinion is the canonical origin of Doom Guy. Carl Urban is supposed to be Doom Guy and this was that part where he is told to kill civilians and he doesn't. It could be false, but it could be true.
No this part was definitely meant to be reference to that. As a young teenager I didn’t catch that until way later. This movie is more true than people give it credit for.
I feel like they were going for a creepy atmosphere like in Doom 3, yet still included those bits of rock music at the intense moments as a way of telling you when you should be scared or something
I mean it is subjective per person first two were action packed games where you shoot demons on Mars easy and simple gorey fun the third doom tried to have a complex story that made no sense and with a bad horror aspect it's like how resident evil 7 but when they did first person and more horror based it was actually well executed unlike doom 3
One of the easiest game to make a movie of, you only need one and a half hour on a guy named "Doom guy" killing demons, if instead of CGI they use Guillermo del Toro movies makeup they could even win an oscar
Unfortunately, that is kind of what makes it *hard* to make a movie out of Doom. Most of the joy of the game is from firsthand experience, not from the story. Movies can't get away with having little or no story for 90 minutes the way a game can.
But couldn't this movie have included at least the portal to hell part? Say they thought they found a powerful source of energy that unfortunately opened up the gates of hell. I mean Aliens had a bunch of marines on a colony overrun by the Aliens. And I'm pretty sure that movie is still good.
It should've been like Aliens except the installation is infested by hell demons instead of aliens, minus the first hour where nothing happens. The protagonist's team is wiped out during the first 5 minutes and he explores/demolishes the place all by himself.
Now that i think about it everything being fucking dark fits doom 3 perfectly before they made it so you could use flashlight and gun at the same time.
First thing my dad actually taught me to find was his beer. Unfortunately he never let me drink it, and I was encouraged to bring it to him. Ugh...Parents. 🤷♂️
i wander, gaming is kind of a direct competitor in the entertainment biz so maybe they do for some kind of entertainment payback or something? (stage plays < radio < TV < games)
Zion Leach I think they do... In Doom (2016) it's called Rip & Tear, not Block & Parry

Many people forget the Berserk Pack that exists in some levels that 10x the damage output of your fists, which could then take down Barons within 5-6 punches.

I can't find anywhere that it actually is an abbreviation as far as in universe; Bio Force Gun appears to be something solely for the movie and te manual for Doom 2 calls it 'big frigging gun'. or Doom 3 the prequel.
Victor Von Doom's lawyers would like to have words with you.
*Sigh* Hi 5, that was amazing.
This movie is actually pretty close to the original DOOM 3, in the sense that everything is so dark you can't see literally anything.
I just want a movie that is about nothing but nonstop slaughter for like a good three quarters of the movie
I want a movie with DOOM Guy killing legions of demons in Hell while using every weapon from every single game. no need to set anything up... Just DOOM Guy killing demons. Its self explanatory lol

Remember, Demon is an offensive term. They prefer the term "mortally challenged".
Mortally challenged does not make sense, though, as a demon is not necessarily immortal. Did you by chance mean "morally challenged", as demons are inherently "bad" by human and/or religious moral standards?
+Kode Kristian
Except demons are immortal in the sense that they're perpetually long-lived.
+Kode Kristian
He's quoting the Doom Eternal 25 minute gameplay video that came out recently.
"Don't get semantic just to be obnoxious"
So now you're trying to dictate my intentions, rather than trying to understand them?

So THAT'S why he killed himself (and everyone else early in the movie)!
No shit Sherlock.
How to do a Doom Movie. Literally just show a playthough of the game. It'd be better than anything Hollywood could do apparently.

Yeah, shortest movie in history . . . . . before cutting.

Yes but to be fair Doom 3 was just a retelling of the events of Doom 1 but in a ungodly terrible way.
Nick Bleker and again the film did a good job capturing that feeling.
I thought Doom was pretty awesome. It's a fun sci for movie. It's not filled with near as bad things in other video games.
i liked it too, it took about five viewings to make that decision though, it wanted to be a horror but the studio wanted an action movie and well we got neither but it is very like doom 3, complete with being unable to see anything and far too much infodumping, archaeology and cod-science. But i did appreciate the lack of a romantic subplot!

Kinda sad you didn't make a joke about the film trying so hard that they even named two characters "John" and "Carmack".
I feel like they were going for a creepy atmosphere like in Doom 3, yet still included those bits of rock music at the intense moments as a way of telling you when you should be scared or something
Doom: the movie: the game?
You mean Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil?
JiJ I didn’t get it
Gemtem is Doom 3 bad
I mean it is subjective per person first two were action packed games where you shoot demons on Mars easy and simple gorey fun the third doom tried to have a complex story that made no sense and with a bad horror aspect it's like how resident evil 7 but when they did first person and more horror based it was actually well executed unlike doom 3
One of the easiest game to make a movie of, you only need one and a half hour on a guy named "Doom guy" killing demons, if instead of CGI they use Guillermo del Toro movies makeup they could even win an oscar
paco ramon
How to make a good Doom movie
Have The Rock as the lead
Make him shoot stuff for the whole movie
Explosions
The Mockracy The whole plot point of the marines falling one by one leaving one man left should have been the first 5 minutes.
So the enemy designs are based on Doom 3, but they didn't make the Seargent with the BFG look like the actual boss enemy in Doom 3.
Now that i think about it everything being fucking dark fits doom 3 perfectly before they made it so you could use flashlight and gun at the same time.
They could have made the Rock turn into a Baron
Which is weird cause Sarge was supposed to be SGT. Kelly.
First thing my dad actually taught me to find was his beer. Unfortunately he never let me drink it, and I was encouraged to bring it to him. Ugh...Parents. 🤷♂️
So glad the actual franchise reboot didn't end this way.
*Sees demon
*Kills Demon
*Spend 20 minutes talking for no reason
**GiVE hIm A hAnD*
The only thing that I liked in this movie was the 1st person scene.. Thats all
How is it possible to riun a game like this. Does hollywood ruin games on purpose.
Zion Leach why would it ruin the game? Why would you let it ruin the game? The games are still good.
i wander, gaming is kind of a direct competitor in the entertainment biz so maybe they do for some kind of entertainment payback or something? (stage plays < radio < TV < games)
Zion Leach
I think they do...
Actually for a while back I'm thinking that Hollywood and mainstream media are dedicated to destroy classics in general
My *"puts tinfoil hat"* theory is that the people on top and responsable for creative decitions are people that grow up hating the things the rest of us loved as kids
This movie didn't ruin Doom. Doom (2016) was an awesome game, and it breathed new life in to the franchise. Hell, it's even a better MOVIE than this! Watch the game-movie to Doom (2016) on TH-cam. You won't be disappointed.
is this a bad time to bring up the (direct to DVD video) of the new doom move (still in production) were the lead is a lady not doom guy again, prob a similar boat to this one cant wait to see nostalgia critic in 10 years+ doing that one lol
