Those old secret societies are not linked to the triads. The triads were low-life gangs in Shanghai who used to worked for the foreigners as henchmen or enforcers. When the communists won, they fled to Hong Kong and started naming their gangs with those old secret society names. They fled to Hong Kong because they were afraid they would be targeted by the communists for their role in the Shanghai massacre where they, along with the foreign militaries, murdered revolting labourers.

Just asking: do you do reaction videos?
cuz as a response to your "All of China's Dynasties on ONE video -- Chinese history 101" I would recommend a couple of playlists from youtuber "胥渡吧": "__"朝群聊 ("__" dynasty group chat)
These are generally 7~9 minute edits from different tv dramas, voice-overed and portrayed as group chat. Praising, discussing, jabs, and even dissing each other about the accomplishments and mistakes each other has made. comedic videos in which prompts/encourage to learn/research Chinese history in-depth for more appreciation for its jokes.
      Very interesting.
I would recommend some of the recent playlists:
      - 宋朝群聊 (Song dynasty group chat)
      - 汉朝群聊 (Han dynasty group chat)
      - 三国群聊 (Three Kingdoms group chat)
Also, some of these "group chats" are already published as books.

I'm Absolutely Enjoying this Channel ‼️ It's funny to me how much the Bak Mei Pai has become incredibly popular, given that it's founder was Hated so much that nearly every Chinese Sifu that I personally know that teaches Hung Ga here on the East Coast of the U.S. hated Bak Mei and wanted Nothing to do with the style. I did hear a version of his history were he actually did travel to Emei Mountain. Not much is known of Fong Do Duk except that he created the White Tiger System (Bak Fu Pai). Gee Sim Sin See is suppose to have been the Sifu of Hung Hei Gung and learned Tiger Boxing from him. I read that Fong Sai Yuk died at a very young age as the result of Fire.
Side Note: In many of the old Shaw Brothers films they would put both Hung Hei Gung and Fong Sai Yuk together to fight against the ruling Ching however, these Two Great Heroes of Shaolin, never actually met each other. Hung Hei Gung himself died of natural causes in his 70's.
Can't Wait for the Guangdong Sup Fu.

Odd thing is, Ip Man said the most scared he ever been in his life was doing his scenes with Mike Tyson. Shows how powerful of a striker you can become when forced into a sparring system in which your options of attack are limited. Such as the "sweet science" of boxing. When you only have a hammer, everything else becomes a nail.

In the 1980s they found written records of Miu Hin, his daughter mei chiu hua (also a wu mei student), and her husbsnd. Chi San is actually believed to be a low level monk from SongShan sent south to help in the resistance. South Shaolin was a movement not an actual temple.

The PRC is well known for being biased to their own ideals after the revolution. So for all we know pak mei is probably not as evil as they depicted him.
Just a guy who didnt want to take part in any rebellion.
Pai mei was the one who developed the style named after him which is an aggressive version of wing chun. It's genuinely a cool and beautiful style which was used for the game sifu. It's surprising how the style is not really used in any kung fu films.

I am a member of the Hung Mun. Sworn Brother. The OTHER 5 monks that were also in Shaolin are Choy Dak Jung, Fong Dai Hung, Mah Chiu Hing, Wu Duk Dai, and Lee Sik Hoi. These were the 5 that actually survived the temples destruction. I am a member of Fong Dai Hung's tong/lodge. Fong Dai Hung is also an ancestor to my kung fu style, Hung Sing Choy Lee Fut. Personally, I believe Choy Dak Jung, and Lee Sik Hoi are also of my kung fu history and lineage.
Those 5 monks spread out all over China and established their own personal Tongs/Lodges. Fong Dai Hung's people came to San Francisco and established a major branch of the tong in our Chinatown. But they also went to any country in the world that had a Chinese community and established their tongs as well.
A deeper look into THOSE 5 monks specifically, would be something i'd watch.

Were they the 5 that survived the burning of the Northern or Southern Shaolin Temple? If it's the Northern Temple, why replace or state "actually" and/or "really" the 5 presented in this video? I'm very interested. Can you elaborate.

there is so much confusion because martial arts wise, there seems to be two sets of 5 ancestors. the one from the Hung Mun states it happened in the norther,n temple, but moved to the south because the southern one was a major hub for the Hung Mun revolutionaries. the hung mun version, happens around 1761

I would like to say, in defense of Ip Man 3's acting and choreography, Donnie sold that Shifu Ip was having a tough time against Tyson's character. So much so, that the fight it self was not to the finish like the elevator fight or of superior skill like in the final duel--THIS battle had one objective: *survive*
We see when Tyson lands a blow, Ip Man made note through facial reaction and battle adjustment that if he took too many direct hits, he was done. Ip Man's willingness attempt tactics like the low-pistol squat stance or moving quickly into eye pokes/'dirty' tactics and environmental usage--stuff that he never used before or sparingly so just to edge out the clock. Even after the fight, Ip Man only managed to win the agreement, and not at all the fight itself. My Shifu had to limp out of office while Tyson began casually playing with a kid, like nothing happened.

    1647 1674 1732
north (Henan), South (Fujian) or both
Given that Chi Sin Sim Si allegedly built a 3rd Shaolin temple after the burning of the south, the dates make sense.
1647 - either Henan or Fujian temple is burned
1674 - either Henan or Fujian temple is burned
1732 - Chi Sin Sim Si's Jiulian Shan temple is burned.

I can tell you my kung fu schools experience with Bruce Lee. In 1959 at 19 years old, bruce came back to SF thinking he was going to be the first to bring "KUNG FU" to America. Little did he know, he was late by at least 40 years. The first person to bring Kung Fu and teach it in America was Professor Lau Bun of the Hung Sing Kwoon, est OFFICIALLY in 1939. Unofficially since the 1920's where it was ONLY taught to triad members.
In 1959, Prof. Lau Bun was 68 years old when Bruce Lee showed up on his doorstep. He tried to challenge the old man to a fight, and the old man looked at bruce and told him and I quote "Boy, I am an old man now. I have no time to play with you. I will K*ll you!!!! then scolded him for embarrassing Ip Man in this fashion. For the old man, kung fu from his day was only intended to end someone's life. he would have taken bruce's life in a heart beat and think nothing of it. that day, bruce left the hung Sing kwoon with his head hanging low without another word. other incidents happened, but that's for another day.

History from My Master - who used CANTONESE:
Bak Mei (the villian) began to teach the secrets of Shaolin Kung Fu to the Manchurian Government because they would kill his students - TRUE. It is in fact because of this that Wing Chun was actually created. The style was created to counter the Huen Kuen (5 animal style) that was being taught to the oppressive Ming Dynasty....Because of the betrayl Bak Mei style of kung fu has been considered by many to be a forbidden style. Origin stories of Ng Mui creating the style from a crane/snake fight is a common origin story as well as her teaching Yim Wing Chun because a man wanted to marry her, but these are common origin stories for many styles that were used to hide the true origins and keep practitioners safe from the manchurian government who literally hunted kung fu artists, teachers and practioners.
I did enjoy your video, however it appears to be almost exclusively based upon wikipedia which is missing much.

I think its beautful and badass and cool Shaolin Kung Fu. But this is just a movie, not real life. Kung Fu movies is just for entertierment, not realistic. I think if you wanna learn how to fight in REAL Life, but you also wanna learn and experiance the roots of Kung Fu is Sanda or Sanshou. Sanda or Sanshou is very good for fighting, its also have some traditional Kung Fu techniques.

    • @hungsingkwoonusa650
      @hungsingkwoonusa650 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Sanda is an after effect of KUNG FU and is NOT the roots of Kung Fu.

    • @learnchinesenow
      @learnchinesenow  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

San da is just a sport version of Kung Fu with a set of rules. i.e. you can punch, kick and throw. So yeah, if you are a Kung Fu practitioner who has practiced actual combat application, you should be able to join a San Da competition and do ok. But the moves used by a Kung Fu practitioner in a real fight would probably be quite different to a San Da competition. No gloves means you can grapple and do much more with the hands.
