Such a brave run. Perfect and memorable way to beat the 39 year old British record with such a dominant and brave win. Congratulations Kerr. Well deserved 🥇
Josh was amazing. I hope that Nuguse can work on his strategy because he is clearly fast, but he always tucks in behind the two dominant 1500 guys and stays there. He may have to work on making moves of his own early on and see if that can work for him.
I get what you're saying but if you look closely at him he was clearly struggling to hold on to them. Fitness definitely playing a part. I'm not convinced he would be able to pull off a big move yet.
Nuguse has a major disadvantage versus Josh, Jakob, Jake and Nordas....and it's the same problem that Stewie MacSweyn has......great endurance but no real change of gear at the end....as a general rule, without a fast finish, you don't win medals.
@liberty5069: Yeah, I also thought "spare a thought for Nuguse". To think that he ran a 3:46.2 mile, and came 3RD! That is crazy. But I agree with some of the other commenters here, he may have the endurance, but if he can't match, or beat the speed of Ingebrigtsen and Kerr, he will always be 2nd or 3rd. Josh said it in his post race interview, this few years from 2022 to now, and hopefully for another few years, are golden years for the middle distance races (1500, mile, 3,000, 2 mile, 5,000). One literally needs to be on world record level to be able to win races.
Congrats on record! Extremely good race. Kerr is very strong. Jakob was very pleased with first race. We are lucky this sport is on this high level now. I am a Jakob fan. But the 1500 in the Olympics is totally open. So many runners can take it on a given day.
Why does he keep talking about “the way the media is spinning it”? He and Jakob have been talking shit and people want to know how they feel about each other.
All that talk was going on while there was a quest for domination, and things were kind of even, but now that Kerr has proved himself dominant right now, he just wants to dial it back a little, in my opinion.
Because the media takes one piece of a longer interview and highlights it, doesn't give it the full context in which it was said....however you can clearly tell they don't like each other or don't want to interact with each other as big rivals
I love that he doubles down on his confidence in his training, and bears the fruits. This is what Jakob has also done over his career: doubling down on training. Speaking of Jakob tho, I do find it weird that Josh keeps pointing to the media spinning stories when (and pls correct me if I’m wrong) this quarrel started after the comments Josh made on that podcast about Jakob being useless w/o pacing etc… (forget the deets). Like he went after Jakob. Now seems to dial it back, and pointing to media/press. Like bro, just own it.
Strange that people seem to be talking up how Ingebrigtsen was close but so early on in his cycle, so should be favourite. It was pretty clear watching Kerr on the home straight that he was basically looking up and watching Jacob on the big screen. Obviously plenty was still left in Josh's tank there...
Josh is well coached in how to speak to the media, however he's also well coached in giving himself belief that he's the best in the world, and without a shadow of doubt in his mind at least....we'll see come Paris though
Congrats to Josh on the British record, but Jakob has the European record in both the 1500m and Mile, and last time I checked Britain is part of Europe, so he still has some work to do.
Yeah well Hicham EL GUERROUJ has the world record and last time I checked Europe is part of the world, so he still has some work to do... It's called a national record for a reason.
Very true! I consider Hicham El Guerrouj to be the GOAT in both of those events, and absolutely agree that Jakob has a lot of work to do before he is considered in that conversation. However, Hicham is no longer racing, so Jakob is the fastest man currently running in these events and his times prove it.
If he stays healthy, he will be very difficult to beat in Paris. Jake Wightman is naturally faster (eg over 800m) but I’m not sure he has enough time to regain his form after his injury.
Acho que vai vim recorde na Olimpíadas, estratégia é clara: Kerr tem chegada e o Ingebrigtsen tem que aplicar ritmo forte para tirar velocidade de Kerr!
I am a HUGE Ingebrigtsen fan, but I must admit, Josh looks better. He has a better kick, I think. Ingebrigtsen's best chance is if he can pace the race to the most consistent/even psce, for a fast time. He essentially needs to tire out or drop the field, before it comes to the kick. Jacob definitely can outkick most of his competition, but not Kerr. If Kerr is with Jacob at the last 200m, I believe he has the better chance to win. Kerr is just absolutely in devastatingly great form now.
Men: As of May 28th Jake Wightman is the best British in the 800. He is the 13th fastest athlete so far this year. In the 1000 there are no good British times so far. In the 1500 and mile there is Kerr and several good performance from other British athletes. But they are hardly dominating middle distance.
With Jakob, Jake, and Yared we get a lot more personality in interviews. Josh is 100% racing all the time. Which is great because clearly that's what it has taken to win but like he's just such a boring interviewee.
So ,realistically Jakob is way ahead of Kerr...... running that fast after injury & missing whole blocks of preparation----the obvious fact here is #1-Jakob is very happy to START his season w a 3:45 mile, even as he ran 3:43 in last years Pre. #2-with full preparation, @ 100% ,Kerr will NOT win. If Jakob is 1 step away w all his injury & lack of prep problems, how on earth can Kerr beat a fully fit Jakob? Easy answer: he can't & won't. The tally is still Jakob 10 wins ,Kerr only 3..... Enjoy it for now joshy boy, you will be hurting soon!
Why does he keep talking about European dominance? Who is he being dominant over? I'm thinking African runners, and if so isn't he being racist? I always thought sport was about your ability and not the colour of your Scottish skin😮
This the 21st century, not all European athletes are white. Anyway I suspect he was also having a sly dig at American athletes, betting them on their home soil.
He is just referring to the faster times occurring at evry diamond league. Look at the European championships the last 4 years. Look at the last 3 1500m champions. We used to have to wait for Kiprop in Monaco for these times. Als
@@michaelmbatha8474 I mean, it was pretty broadly talked about at the time that Jakob reported being ill. Take of that what you will; just saying, that was in the conversation at the time. Anyway, clearly it looks like injuries are all healed, training is ongoing, and Ingebrigtsen is mostly back. I tend to think it’s fair he gets a pass _this time_ for first race back in a while. But from now on I also think it’s fair expectations shift back to normal. There’s another good two months of training left. So it will sort out as it will at the Olympics and whoever wins is simply the best on the day.
@@cyrilandersonLet’s say Kerr never beats Jakobs best Mile time, but continues to beat him in almost all competitions, who do we consider as the better runner? I’m honestly curious, it’s just a question that came to my mind. Seems to be technically we would need to consider Jakob the better runner as he ran faster, but we would just need to consider him inconsistent? Surely Kerr should get credit for beating him ? We need to be careful of making excuses because at the end of the day it’s who shows up best on the day and everyone is seldom feeling perfect.

Classy as always. He is a benefit to the sport.
As a Brit, I don't want Josh or Jakob to win. Humble Whiteman is the man in my eyes - and the bloke I'd like my kids to look up to
whiteman is a nice guy for sure
Hasha! Exactly what I feel. Aren't they awful! I really hope someone else sneaks it. Whiteman is also my favourite.

345. Dang guys. This season is going to be awesome
The 1500m Olympic Champion will be whoever is in the front at the bell. It's that simple.
No disrespect for Jakob, but Josh is what the mile event and sport needs. Very Alpha.
Scotland and England are dominating middle distance running
