Ahh! Time Travelling Emma
I found one decent Christian youtube channel that I subbed to for reasons of curiosity. In fact, it's the only Christian channel that is palatable at all to a moderate, liberal, left leaning, bisexua,l American, atheist man like myself. You might like it. The main guy is the dude who created Veggie Tales (never seen it but heard of it). Thought you might enjoy it. Cheers!

Remember: Jesus is watching, and probably t o u c h i n g himself.
LGBTQ+ people ARE people; we're not "issues" open to debate, our lives are not a matter of discussion.
Exactly.
Preach on brutha
Well put
LGBT people are people. How they are treated *is* an issue.
I mean, the only reason Christians see us as an “issue” is that they want to “solve” how to get rid of us. It’s the same as the “Jewish question”.
Why do they always only mention the sexual desires, but never the romantic desires, when speaking about homosexuality.
Lust is a sin in and on itself, but suddenly, when they themselves like a woman, they are still clear of the sin.
Because even the most liberal Christians still believe that homosexuality is inherently sexual.
Hmmm, I think they preach the idea that sex out of wedlock is also a sin.
I dunno... These people are weird.
So they don't have to admit that Queer people want romantic love, stable relationships, maybe kids, a career.
Because that would make LGBTQ+ human and normal.
They want demons. Lustful demons. Marijuana smoking demons. Democrat-voting demons.
If you have to create demons and evil out of people, your religion is the evil demon.
A romantic homosexual, marrying and raising kids as many gays do nowadays, dosnt fit in the evangelical world view.
They don't believe that there can be a romantic desire.
I'm not homosexual, but some of the happiest, sweetest couples I have ever met were.
The kind of happiness that comes from romantic compatibility.
But a lot of those Evangelicals are so repressed and pent up that they can only concentrate on the sex part of any desire or relationship because they never get any so it is all that's on their minds 24/7.
I feel sorry for people who need to preach their religion as if they need to convince themselves
Unfortunately with religion that’s the whole rub, they have the answer already in mind and can’t question it, therefore they only seek to find evidence that supports the preconceived idea.
Don't feel sorry for them. They want to cause harm to people who never hurt anyone. They deserve our disgust.
Why?
It's a common human behavior.
I just find their stupidity annoying.

I want the people who are anti-gay to have lived in ny life. Praying everyday for 16 years to not be gay. Crying, pleading to make me "normal". Living in my own personal hell. I would love for them to have gone through all of that and then say their same hateful crap. Thank you emma love your channel.❤ Sending love to anyone struggling today. I have tried to be with and love a woman. It was not fair to her wasnt fair to me. no woman wants to be with a man that doesnt find her sexually satisfying so i guess we should be alone. If that's true oh what a loving god. Horse crap.
i hear you bro, i am a born muslim and have been agnostic for two years now, my views on gay individuals might come across as conservative. However, let me share my perspective as a straight man. I fully respect individuals like you who have known from childhood that they're not attracted to the opposite gender; it's simply the way their minds work, and that's perfectly valid.
But when I see cases like Chris from Misterbeast, who had a loving family, a wife, and a child, only to transition to being transgender later in life, it raises questions for me. It seems bizarre to me, considering he was clearly attracted to his wife when he proposed her or when they decided to have a child. I can't help but feel that individuals who undergo such transitions later in life may be acting impulsively, seeking more and more without considering the impact on their loved ones.
Another concern I have is the potential influence on children. I believe it's important to shield children from certain aspects of LGBT education and pride events, as they may not yet have the emotional maturity to understand or process such information. These are the two main concerns I have regarding gay individuals

Yeah but what about Zeus and Ra?
Well, that's what YOU think, but if you're not bullying gay kids into suicide, then you're clearly not _really_ caring for their eternal souls, so...
/s because that's a genuine belief I was taught to have as a kid, so it's not so obnoxious that people would know it's sarcasm.
@@SarastistheSerpent Both Zeus and Ra are absolutely, solidly required to be a good person, no question in the matter. Luckily the entire pantheons they each belong to are not required by extension, so no worries there.
I started questioning in my 20s (in my 40s now). I guess better late than never.
So, reading their bio brought back some pretty bad memories of something that happened in my private university many decades ago. During one of the chapel meetings/church, one of the most popular and well liked guys got up in front of everyone to confess his sins of enjoying pornography and masturbating. He was seriously upset and sad that he had "violated" God's rules that he felt compelled to confess to the entire school(at that time).
I remember thinking, how can a God of unconditional love punish you for doing something that comes naturally to the body he designed? Then I began to wonder, is it bad to enjoy eating or singing or anything that makes you happy? That's when I started to realize that this wasn't the God I was taught to love and adore if he really would punish you for being what you are. For years after this, I struggled with the thought that anything that went wrong in my life was a result of me doing something God didn't approve of and I was terrified.
It has taken me almost 30 years to begin to heal from this and move on. I really hope this other guy did too, although I wouldn't be surprised if he went on to propagate the same fear driven nonsense. 😞
Good 'ole confession, eh?
Because frankly that's what it is - the idea, for many of us, is to rise above nature.
@@fnjesusfreak That makes absolutely zero sense. According to that logic, you should lop off your genitals because you want to rise above procreation which is something nature expects. Good luck with that.
There is nothing sinful or wrong about masturbation or any other number of natural things that we as animals do. We eat, sleep, sh*t and we have sex. Some choose to experiment without having sex. That's normal.
Anything a book written by savages thousands of years ago should never be taken at face value. We don't bleed ourselves when we have a fever anymore and we shouldn't think we are evil for having sexual desires.
_the idea, for many of us, is to rise above nature._
Become a breatharian if you really want to rise above nature.
For all the rest, not all nature is bad, most of it is useful. Altruism is natural, for example. Breathing is natural, too.
Are there situations where altruism and breathing are wrong? Sure. A few. That’s why you got a brain to understand when that is.
Amazing - they have proven that people at the time that believed the things they believed, believed the things they beleived, and they wrote them down...
It's kind of obvious that someone wrote the Gospels down, and that either they, or the people they were talking to really and truly believed that they had seen Jesus after he died. But it's still a whole step from accepting that that was those people's honest belief, and believing that it is definitely true that a man who died was alive again.
Given that the "risen Christ" appeared and disappeared mysteriously, and eventually is supposed to have just ascended into heaven and was then never seen again, I am very skeptical about the idea that the "risen" Christ had an actual solid, mundane body, whatever the experiences of those people was.
@@paulhammond6978 _It's kind of obvious that someone wrote the Gospels down_

_and that either they, or the people they were talking to really and truly believed that they had seen Jesus after he died._

Non-observant Jews were tortured to death by the millions in Nazi Germany. Does that tell us anything about their sincere beliefs? Did they have a chance to recant being born jewish (by Nazi definition!) and thus stop being tortured?
Name the martyrs that
a.1) believed they had seen Jesus after his death or
a.2) talked to direct witnesses (who exactly) who had seen Jesus after his death and believed them completely
and
b) were given a chance to recant and would be free of persecution if they did
and
c) wrote down at least part of one gospel

"The Case for the Rizzin' Jesus" sounds like a great installment in the Encyclopedia Brown series

"Ahhhhhh... f**k... I have been nailed to a Cross!!!!!! arghhhhh" - The Hysterical Jesus.
Interesting how many Christians conflate accepting mundane aspects of the Bible (ie, this person/place was real) with accepting the supernatural aspects of the Bible that have no independent corroboration.
Is it though?
I'd argue that's how our epistemology tends to work.
Let's look at people defending criminals, murderers.
"Oh, I could have never guessed!"
"They were so kind to me"
"I've known them since they were young, it couldn't have been them"
We don't go evaluating every single claim, we rely first on our biases to give us a quick and efficient response. We rely on patterns.
Again, staying away from religion, look at the theory of evolution. How many of the people who accept it could actually explain it to you? They'd probably just say stuff like
"Well, that's what scientists say"
"I was taught it in school"
Meaning: x was right about a thing, therefore they're trustworthy.
(I am not a creationist btw, i do accept the theory of evolution. I can only say that properly now, however, because I took the time to actually read about it)
Honestly, there are people that don’t understand the dividing line between history and fiction in novels marketed as historical fiction. Many of them don’t understand how loose the phrase “based on a true story” really is in films either.
@@Saezimmerman Exactly, it's not a uniquely religious issue.

Some Jewish itinerant preacher that wasn't very popular with the ruling class of the time got crucified, along with hundreds or thousands of other people back then. And he had some followers that made some claims about him. So what. How does that prove any of the miracles or god stuff in the book?
for some reason this reminds me of the monty python holy grail bit "Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government". 😂
It doesn’t - the miracles and God stuff is a matter of faith and belief. It drives me nuts when apologists insist that they can “prove” it. I identify as a Christian, but I don’t buy into a lot of the nonsense that evangelicals spew. If so many Christians don’t agree on the details, I’ll never understand how any of these people can keep a straight face when saying “the Bible is clear” - nope, it’s really not. It’s a many times transcribed and translated anthology that the (human) authors never intended to be read as a whole cohesive book.
@@Saezimmerman yes I know that. But then you should also believe in Allah, Zeus, Ra, in fact every single other god ever created by humans. Theres just as much reason to believe in all of them as the Christian God. Because faith is crap. You can believe anything you want on faith. And the Bible is just a bunch of fables and myths, most of it stolen from other stories of older religions.
exactly
Recently I’ve noticed that almost all Christians think Jews “don’t believe Jesus existed”. I had an argument the other day with a Christian claiming this about Jews. I told them the vast majority of Jews believe the Historical Jesus existed, they just don’t buy into the whole messiah thing. They couldn’t seem to wrap their mind around this concept. Lol To them it’s inconceivable to think Jesus existed without also thinking he was G-d.
I tried explaining to them that there were tons of rabbis throughout history with “miraculous” birth stories and followers writing about all the miracles the rabbi performed. I guess Christians think if you believe Jesus existed, you MUST also believe all the fan fiction written about him.

That statement at 4:00 - when you get born again the first hurdle is to be anti-LGBTQIA+
That is so true. I was born again and then someone was saying something about being against the gay agenda and I distinctly remember my brain having cognitive dissonance and then completely changing my kind to be anti-gay. This was around 2000 so things in general were leaning more anti-gay at the time.
Anyway fast forward 15 years and I had a very similar reverse experience when one of my friends came out to me. I decided immediately that I could not hate my friend.
It’s embarrassing that I couldn’t have that same response toward people that I wasn’t close with, but that’s what it is. I’ve grown a lot since then.
Even though, according to biblical lore, Jesus, befriended those that society rejected.
Don't be embarrassed. You were basically brainwashed into your thinking. That can't be helped, especially if you've been immersed in a culture that believes that way. Things that people are not extremely familiar with, it's easy for people to hate them, because it's different and "weird" to them, but then you find out someone you love IS that thing, and it can blow your past beliefs away. After I left Christianity, at around 2002, I hated Christianity and everyone involved in it. Except for my family, who are Christian still to this day. They accepted me as gay, and, I couldn't trash them for my perceived view of Christians. But, through the years, I realized that not all Christians are bigots at heart, that some really do want to follow what they perceive as the teachings of Jesus, and they become humanists because of that. Most mainstream Christians are live and let live. It's the evangelicals that I have historically, and still do, have a problem with. Granted, most of my friends are Pagan (I was for close to 20 years, still am at heart, even though I consider myself Atheist) and don't have very many friends that consider themselves Christian. But, most of my family still does.
That's similar to finding out not all gay people are what you've been told all your life they are. There are some ideas about us that are vile, and the vast majority of us do not fit the evangelical profile. But I've noticed that when someone realizes that someone in their family, or friends, are LGBTQ, they, at least sometimes, have their entire worldview torn apart. Granted, it's a crap shoot as to whether or not this happens. Some people are way too invested in the propaganda their churches and Christian friends/family tell them, but some are willing to actually see things for what they are.
TL;DR, It's very human to fear and hate what you don't understand, but it can make people think and do some inhuman shit. On any side of the argument really. But, exposure is definitely the wolfsbane of ignorance.
@joeburly I had a similar experience when I went from being agnostic-leaning-to-atheism to getting baptised. I immediately assumed I couldn't believe evolution any more, and drank in all the arguments against it.
Over time, I realised -
a) the case for evolution is overwhelmingly stronger than the case against ;
b) altho some of my friends in the church were evolution deniers, I discovered that a greater number totally accepted it ;
c) actually the church has no stand on the matter, and you can accept or deny as you please.
So then I switched evolution back on !
I've had a similar journey with lgbtq-etc - I was kind of disapproving of gays before, because of the influence of others, and didn't give it much thought until a new colleague at work made no secret of being lesbian, and a family member came out. I remembered the gay guy I knew at college, and I just had to re-think the whole idea. I find that my friends at church have done the same !
It seems to me that a lot of christians have forgotten about loving your neighbour and respecting their choices. Or is it just a vocal minority ?
Glad you came back out (pun intended) of those woods. Also, not so embarassing if you didn't actually partake in hate and hurting actions ; indifference to strangers is easy to fall into in our societies: it sounds like that gay friend basically popped the bubble you got trapped and brought you into reality and realizing . wishing you to keep growing on, thanks for sharing!
@@tezzerii I my context in western US it’s almost embarrassing to call yourself Christian because people assume you are a bigot. I honestly think that restricts many of us from being more vocal about our following of Jesus who accepted all except the rich and powerful, and always uplifted the downtrodden.
I love the way you say pastor. Getting a constant mental image of a gay Christian pasta preaching at me as I try to eat it.
It’s not even a good pasta. I’m just eating so it’ll eventually shut up.
I don't see how Christians can say the bible is the inerrant word of God. It is obviously flawed.
What people do not seem to realize today is that the bible was not written for the common people to read. The common people could not read until a couple hundred years ago. The bible was written for other priests to read and interpret to the people. The priests just blurred over the flaws in the bible. This goes for the New Testament as well as the old.
This is another great video. Emma does great research. I don't know how she finds all these topics and people. Great job Emma. This is why we watch you.
I've heard some historians argue that actually, common people in pre-modern Christian Europe were able to read. It's fairly easy for a parent to teach a child the letters of the alphabet, and how to sound out words. However, most couldn't afford many books (if any), nor could most afford the tools or education to be able to write. So their literacy skills would have been a good deal weaker than ours.
The common people also couldn't read Latin, which is a major reason why the social elites of the day believed the commoners were completely illiterate. Being able to read in the vernacular language didn't count as "real" literacy, in their eyes.
@@tbotalpha8133 very interesting. Personally I don’t know how literate ancient people were. I always heard they couldn’t read. I still think the Bible didn’t start out as the word of god. I think they wee priestly books that became more authoritative over time until they became the word of god. I think this explains why they were modified so much before they became cannon
Blessed are those who read those words ALOUD
The bible was literately one of the reasons why the printing press was invent? One of the first books MASS PRODUCED was the BIBLE as early ad the 1400's. what the fuck are you on about?
That's a historical myth pushed by hollywood and propogaded by people who think that the dark ages was a bad time for human history. In reality the dark ages saw alot of progress for education, human rights, and so on and so forth. I highly recomend you do a deep dive into the historical manuscripts and first hand accounts on what life was like during the Mideval period because the historical myths are just baffling just to name a few
1) people didn't bath; not true. people bathed at least once a week and we have pictures of wealthy people literately having baths in their house
2) women were married off at a young age; false most women got married at around 19-22

Holy shit that ghost-type shirt is the gnarliest thing I’ve seen in a while. That thing is godlike.
When that kid comes out hes gonna be a lot happier.
Yup. Religion sure does damage to the mind. I bet that this poor kid goes to bed crying about his " unwanted same sex attractions" and thinking he's going to hell forever..... Poor baby I really feel awful for Jaiden. Apart from the religious brainwashing he seems like a intelligent man and he's really cute too!
For real tho. He's an attractive guy, and seems very sweet and pretty smart too.
But evangelicalism forces you to warp your empathy. To think that your conscious is temptation.
Poor kid is definitely not cishet though, yeah. Genuinely hope he finds peace.
I was definitely ad-targeted for that same Pokemon shirt and now I have to buy it.
where is the shirt from?
I'm here watching someone watching someone watch Christian fundamentalist videos. Truly, this is peak TH-cam.
Now someone needs to create a video watching this video.
I'm commenting on your comment about watching someone watching someone watch Christian fundamentalist videos. And if someone comments on this....to infinity and beyond!
World without end, amen!@@ianchisholm5756
@@ianchisholm5756 I found your comment very instructive and I hope that somebody will comment on my comment.
@@ianchisholm5756 Just a quick comment on your comment about how your comment is commenting on someone commenting about watching a video of someone watching a video of someone watching a video...what was I gonna say?
I generally give you sincere, heartfelt likes, but this time, since you mentioned it, I used the cheeky like.
That shirt simply kicks ass, Emma 🔥🔥
Btw, Your background is so aesthetically pleasing. Well done! 💙💜🩷
Inerrancy? Like the bible was not put together by committee. And protestants and Catholics acknowledging different Bible books as canon.
(That guy is too young for any skincare products imo)
Judging from his path in life, I suspect he's in receipt of a very special kind of skincare.
I was enjoying the scholar speaking so much i forgot i was watching a reaction to a reaction😂
2 statements.
1. This guy looks like Jojen Reed from Game of Thrones. Not a judgement, not an insult, just an observation.
2. When you say, "Pastor," it sounds like "Pasta," to me. And, now I'm hungry.
This was profoundly intriguing. I appreciate the tips on the music and the speech warm-ups. Its hard to get such holistic and candid feedback such as this, thank you Emma.
Oh hey it's you!! Hope you're well. ❤
I know we don't agree on a lot of key stuff (I'm a trans girl), but you seem like a sweet and thoughtful guy, and I respect that.
Plus, having grown up in the Church of Christ... I really appreciate your curiosity and introspection, and most of all your earnest civility.
I truly think, with people like you and Emma here, we can get past the name-calling and ridicule that both sides are so keen on. (Side-note, I also reccomend "Genetically Modified Skeptic" for a similarly empathetic approach to Emma.)
TLDR: We disagree on some crucial things, but I can feel your good heart, and so respect your willingness to "reach across the aisle", so to speak. The world needs that. 😊
Paulogia has posted extensive content on the issue of the Resurrection. Including content on Gary Habermass' new book. It is supposedly the first of four volume on the "proof" of the Resurrection.
So excited to see you on AXP with Forrest!!
Yee I can't wait!
@@EmmaThorneVideos When is this?? I can't miss it!
when is this?
@@EmmaThorneVideos omg thank you so much for the reply

I love your content, but as a lesbian ex-christian, I just couldn't finish this for my own sake. So here is my commnt for the algorithm
I'm glad you made this video. TH-cam's algorithm has been recommending this guy to me nonstop lol
Can't wait for social media battle's first "My brother in Christ".
I heard Iceland is hosting the Olympic competitive sex games this year.
Hm, that's going to be a bit of a dud. Not a place with strong sexual vibes🤔

Hey. Baphy’s dope, but what I really want is an Emma plushy or an Emma bobblehead.
Jus a lil guy
I didn't realize that I needed an Emma booblehead until you mentioned it.
An Emma bobblehead like the Einstien bobblehead, but the base just says "Citation Needed?"

I was watching Atheist Experience last week and someone called in all about something said by Bart Ehrman and just kept going on about it and I thought, it'd be neat if Emma Thorne was on the show... couple days later I saw the upcoming episode on March 10th.
So awesome and a really neat coincidence.
Very much looking forward to it.
1:43 “WORLD RECORD!!! A 0.000076 second time to finish!”
18:54 Name any other example in the world where we base authority on inerrancy or some other kind of perfection. When else do people ever take an all-or-nothing approach between inerrancy and authority versus imperfection and no authority?
North Korea.
Isn't their god-ruler supposed to be so perfect he doesn't even have an anus, or something?
You also have a male doppelganger (Nathan from digital gnosis) he looks a lot like you and his TH-cam channel is also about atheist stuff and dunking on conservatives, similar to you but he also is much more philosophical.he hosts philosophy debates sometimes.
Maybe the eyebrows?
Not even a minute in and all I can think is I want your shirt!
0:01 What fun! I get to enjoy the company of Emma this evening. Thank you for your wonderful videos. Have a lovely weekend.
Emma, you need to request a debate with your doppleganger.
Another lovely video! Thank you, Emma. 🙂
I hope your day is brilliant.
I love watching your channel especially when I’m high on my pain meds
Omg I said “ET cetera” out loud at the exact same time. 😂
I refuse to believe that Emma has a twin. They don't even remotely look like a little lesbian boy.
they're not , Emma just has a secret society mass producing defective clones in an attempt to subdue her. My headcannon for this.
This has all the hallmarks of a bizarre transporter accident. The twins need to back up to their starting coordinates, and run the technobabble thingy in reverse. Quickly, before the spacetime portal vanishes!
She's a boy? Hell ... but I can live with that. Kinda cute, too.
She's a lesbian? Can a boy be a lesbian, is it even possible?
And who cares, anyway? Reference the quote below-
"Them that matters don't care, them that cares don't matter"
(Apologies, I forget where I scored that gem. A real doozy!)
@@Eudric You mean there's Emmy Prime, Emma and Wrong Emma ? I'm all for it. (Where's Entrapta ?)
You are awesome, Ms. Thorne.
You messing with your hair at the end is giving me "feelings"😎
Thanks Emma! since I've started studying rocks and the earth's history my face has already cleared up!
I really love that new music bit in the intro.
Until I heard the voice I legit thought the other person was just Emma doing cosplay.
I'd die to see a debate between buddy and emma. It would be epic af.
So weird to see you've reach your "battling weird evil shadow bad clone" Arc !
And damn I was looking for easy understandable makeup and skincare, good sponso time Geologie.
Also I'm soo reusing that "interested in competitive sx" as my byline, resonates with me so much^^ !
Was quite interesting to hear you again on those topics, thank you .
Tho I'm still very pissed at "historical jesus" consensus on a meaning/semantic standpoint : When people hear "jesus" they think "guy who had a bread multiplier, waterproof soles and was a cool zombie for three days after a forced roman yoga session" ; Not "politically challenging Rabbi on the topic of wealth against establish priests, with heroic noble ancestry claims, whose name probably sounded like yeshua or something" which is what the "historical Jesus" studies are trying too confirm. We don't keep such a blurred lign on other characters like king arthur, not really using "historical arthur" for some roman General Artus, but "based on". Pet peeve of mine, but when people use the blurred term like what was historically researched and thus "confirmed" is the wedding at Cana and the crucifixion (which is really unproven historically, as a most unusual punishment *[EDIT: unusual for non-slaves ! ^^'*).
There was nothing unusual about crucifixion in the Roman world.
Problem is it was slave exclusive my dude @@almcdermid9669 ! Sorry should have precised. Historians are puzzled on why a free Jewish man would have been sentenced to it, like who asked for crucifixion instead of the wide ranged of options for free people, still making them exemples. Also crucified slaves were there to stay and rot to impress passerby, the family couldn't ask for the body back on the evening, so that part show something was weird in how it was caried on.
Was it a cruel joke for the son of a carpenter or a political statement to make him look as a slave? we have no clue or historical explanation yet.
I love ghost type Pokémon, imma need me one of those t shirts
He seemed to say that Bart agrees there are 11 other historical witnesses - I'm pretty certain that Bart would say that there are other sources that record what Christians believed, not that are actual witnesses to any events - Herodotus is a great example of that.
Great show. Love your humor on the facts.
Just subscribed keep up the great work.
8:26 - Hey it's Dr. Habermas! My sister dated his nephew. His brother was a pastor at my old church (might still be, idk I just don't go there anymore).
Emma, that pokemon shirt GOES HARD! Ihad you on in the background so i didn't notice it until the very end but damn that's cool.

That kid needs to be saved from the terrible indoctrination he was raised in
Yup.

The new intro is cute but a fair bit too loud. Might be a good move to make it a bit quieter next time!

Emma, that shirt is awesome! super cute
The purple theme is interesting, but i prefer the more natural lighting and looking for the sometimes "easter egg" on the shelves around you
When you corrected his excetera confirmed I love you. We’re the same 💕
I saw a video thumbnail on his channel when you were looking that said something like "explain that rainbow flag". This reminded me of something I saw in a town near where I live. There was a church that had a rainbow flag out front and in the middle of it there was the phrase "A Just World For All" which has me puzzled. On the surface, it does imply compassion for our LGBTQ family, but at the same time, it does refer to the rainbow, which was created in the Bible to remind us of that one time that God decided to dole out "justice" and Etch-A-Sketch the entire flipping planet. I want to think that they are being understanding and compassionate, but it seems like there is a mess around and find out subtext there.
Crappy Pastor Chronicles when 😅?
Featured channel seems ok so far, cool find 👍
That guy is destined for the age of 40, living a lie. He has a wife who just found out that he has a boyfriend. I don't think that I need to finish that thought line.
