Speaking as a bisexual man, I gotta admit I only recently heard the term "alphabet community" and was vaguely disappointed to discover it's used as a slur. I thought it was honestly kind of hilarious.
Yeah honestly I wouldn't be surprised if "alphabet community" and especially "alphabet mafia" ended up being claimed by LGBTQ+ people almost in an ironic way cause theyre kinda funny lol
"you can't make it your whole personality" Babe she made One tiktok. She also didn't mention eating food in there but that doesn't mean she subsists only on lesbianism.
It’s so annoying when these people say this because my personality is huge and multi-faceted and my gender makes up a teeny tiny lil portion of it, meanwhile they make hating other queers their entire identity…
These people don't understand the concept of content niches. Like no one ever assumes a person with a dedicated gaming channel has no personality outside of gaming. It's only when that content relates to a marginalized identity they assume that.
My wife (who I thought was my husband for 11 years) finally came out as trans in her 40s a few years ago. When she first started going out into the world as female-presenting, I was so worried for her. Fortunately, though, the area where we live in England seems like a pretty safe place to be trans. And I'll be clear, my wife doesn't "pass". She is 6 feet tall, has a deep voice, and a classically handsome face. However, all of her coworkers with whom she'd shared an office space for 12 years immediately started referring to her as Mrs and using she/her pronouns. No one has bothered her in the streets other than one or two odd looks. She'd only been out as trans a short while and feeling great in a beautiful skirt she just got, when some teenagers approached her. One of the girls openly asked if she was trans. When my wife said yes, this teen girl looked at her and said, "I really rate you." It made my wife's day.
I have to ask you say “I really rate you”, is that a misspelling of “hate” or does rate mean something different in this case? Aside from that, you love to see it when someone comes out and everyone accepts it.
@@Just-a-Metalhead Maybe it's just in England we use it this way? It means I rate you highly. Like, I think you're cool, or you're awesome or brave or whatever. It's kind of context-based. Or it could be about a thing instead of a person. So if a person (mostly younger people) says "I rate that" it's meant as a good thing.

I don’t feel like it should be, I think he thinks of himself as identifying more with his political views than his sexuality. That said I am a straight cis bloke who identifies more with his job than anything else, I can’t imagine pigeonholing myself as centre left or whatever and basing my identity around that (or just being “normal” or whatever) I don’t have to think about other parts of my identity and few people try to get me to change myself or force me to think about the other bits of my identity.
I apologise, I'm 60 years old and don't know what all the genders are, and I will get pronouns wrong, but if it doesn't affect me, people can identify as giraffes if it makes them happy. This world needs more happiness. Love to all.

We think we saw a poll that said that 90-something percent of lesbians are trans inclusive, and even then, we'd absolutely argue it's a descriptor and not a rule one must follow; if you consider yourself lesbian but find a trans or nonbinary person attractive, that shouldn't break some sacred seal of lesbianism, that's just... Finding someone attractive.
sexuality, romance, and identity became too divided in modern days, we like things in neat little boxes and we like to belong to them. for most of history the concept of "homossexuality" wasn't even a thing, people slept with people of the same or opposite sex, and depending on your culture it would be accepting or rejected, but almost never classified as it's own state of being, just something some people did. that is because those things are spectrums, not fixed points. but the tribalistic nature of humanity makes us create groups that we belong to based on our internal identity, and I believe the interconectivity of the globalized world made it much MUCH stronger. sadly though the necessity to belong is too strong, and even after saying that I'm also a victim of this mentality. I feel sexual atraction for trans women, but not romantic atraction. why ? I don't know, but most of it could be just internal bias, there is zero reason for me to feel that way, but that is how I feel. so (personally) it's completely understandable that for someone their sexuality is so much part of their identity, that even the idea of being atracted to someone of a gender that don't validate their sexuality can be stressful as it put their identity and sense of belonging in danger. something that is valid for anyone in any place of the spectrum.
" that shouldn't break some sacred seal of lesbianism," never break the Sacred Seal of Lesbianism! it is an ancient seal, dating back thousands of years, and to break it would be akin to opening Pandora's box. the fate of the world hangs in balance!
I told someone who said she used to be attracted to girls and is now attracted to guys and now has a boyfriend that "you are attracted to what you are attracted to" and she nodded pretty enthusiastically. I think sexual attraction is far more complex than we give it credit for, and putting labels on can harm us and structures power and value towards a certain preference or group.
@@CB66941 ppl been putting labels on it for 6000 or so years. your concept is newfangled and still takes some getting used to for a lot of folks. otoh, for kids under 25, some 20% of them now identify as rainbow. that's 1 out of 5 that claim a nontraditional form of sexuality/gender/whatever you wanna call it. in the 80s that number was more like 3%. so it is taking root.
when I was 23, I worked at Crater Lake National Park in my home state of Oregon, and because it's at the top of a mountain and many miles from any towns...the employees lived in dorms there. In our dorm, there was one big bathroom for the girls, and one for the guys. The guys bathroom had a big open shower with zero privacy, and very few of us wanted to use it. The girls bathroom was slightly better...separate shower stalls, but still very little privacy. They DID, however, have one little private room with a bathtub and a locking door. BTW, this was 20 years ago. Because the girls understood how the guys hated the lack of privacy...especially us gay ones (you could say I'm a "normal gay", but I would never identify as "normal" by any definition), they had ZERO problem with the guys using their bathroom...including their private bathtub. In fact, they encouraged us to use it. That was the last year that building existed, thankfully. They tore it down and built a new one. I've never seen the new one, but I'm guessing the bathroom situation is more private. It's interesting, tho...I'm sure a lot of those girls from back then are on the "right" with the whole trans bathroom debate, when back then, a decade or so before it became a political issue, they didn't mind it at all. Not a single girl there cared in the slightest if guys used their bathroom (and vice versa. Both bathrooms were treated as unisex, even tho they technically weren't). Funny how people can be totally not bothered by something, but that thing suddenly becomes a political or societal issue that everyone's talking about, and now they've got a HUGE problem with it. When I was a kid, dads would take their young daughters to the women's restroom if their mom wasn't around...and no one had a problem with it. It's literally never been illegal for men to use a women's public restroom or vice versa. Not in the US. It was always just a courtesy...but there were cases when exceptions were made, and when they were, no one cared. It's only an issue now because of transphobia...which I find very sad. On a side note...I'm a cis gay man, and I definitely wouldn't be opposed to dating a trans man, even if he still had female genitalia. Just saying. I admit it would be weird for me...at least at first...but since sex isn't the most important part of a relationship, it wouldn't be a big deal for me. If other cis gay men wouldn't date a trans man, that's okay. You like what you like. But if you think that most gay people truly care as much about genitalia as you do, you're an idiot. And if you're judging people based on their genitalia...you're an idiot AND an asshole (and you clearly have some issues that you should mention to your therapist). Just live and let live. Let people be their authentic selves. I'm just old enough to have lived in a time when the gay community was still fighting for basic rights, and all we wanted was to be our true selves without fear of being denied basic shit...like housing, or the right to marry or adopt kids. When the younger "normal gays" refuse to accept people based on how they identify, or what's between their legs, it makes me sad. Too much of the gay community has become what we fought AGAINST for so long, and I truly hope we can correct that soon.
When my kids were younger, I would happily take my daughter into the female changing room for her swimming lesson, along with a number of mothers who changed their sons in the male changing room, and no one batted an eyelid. True, you didn’t make eye contact with any other children (mothers occasionally yes!) and you got out as quickly as reasonably possible. Mind you, I live in Europe, where this whole trans thing seems to be a bit of a storm in a teacup (with one or two notable exceptions…). Just to be clear, I agree with everything you wrote.
@@deborahw2338 : Unfortunately they'd then have to contend with people using public restrooms as whore houses or drug dens. The lack of privacy is there for a reason.
@@deborahw2338 In my state theyve made bathroom stalls even worse in recent years because of the drug epidemic... Now instead of getting the druggies off the streets and out of the bathrooms their solution is to punish everyone else by basically cutting the doors down in half to 'monitor' people in the stalls. So now you can walk into a bathroom and literally make eye contact with someone in a stall taking a shit. I have sympathy for addicts but that sympathy ends when it ruins everyone elses normal day to day life.
and/or If we're going by the usage of the word woke, then conservative voices, who probably use the word the most, should count for a lot, and then just knowing there is global warming and hoping we'll all die because of it is still considered woke, and compassion is then not required. Which is also why I present myself as ultra woke, because I do both and I like triggering conservative and theist snowflakes and normalising healthy ideas as opposed to ridiculing things like curiosity and having actually learned things. I think it's important to encourage healthy things and discourage destructive things like conservatism and theism and other forms of (self) abuse, so consequently I have the urge and need to actually do that instead of just saying stuff and doing the opposite like all theists and other conservatives.
I always find "meaning of lesbian" discussions funny, especially from a guy, because it used to just be a person from Lesbos. It's already switched meaning anyway! Courtesy of Sappho of Lesbos, so great she gave us two words for women that are attracted to women.
There's also the more clinical sounding same sex attraction but I suspect Brad is suffering cognitive dissonance and is angry at people that are comfortable with who they are.
It was also used of wine from Lesbos, very famous and popular in ancient times. 1597 Aristotle liketh better of the wine of Lesbos, then the wine of Rhodes; he affirmeth both to be good, but the Lesbian the more pleasant. it's also surprisingly modern too. some 19th century writters used "sapphic" to refer to romance between two women in reference of Sappho, but the term "lesbian" as we know it became a thing in the 20th century.

The "taxation is theft" idea is not coming from Communism, but from Libertarianism. In the US, Libertarians are on the right wing spectrum and not the left.
To reference your information, Friedrich Engels second point of the ten points of communism is; "A heavy progressive or graduated income tax." As presented in the communist manifesto by Marx and Engels.
@@tilestwoEngels/Marx are writing about heavy taxation being necessary in a transitional period before communism is achieved. "A heavy or progressive or graduated income tax is necessary for the proper development of Communism."
@@tilestwo Regardless of that - I am connected with tons of socialists and communists, and not one of them ever, ever says "taxation is theft." They understand that under Capitalism, taxation is necessary and benefits the society as a whole. Only Libertarians whine about taxation being theft.
@@sharimeline3077 I think the modern Libertarian idea that taxation is theft comes from Frédéric Bastiat's work, "The Law" where Bastiat describes tax as one of the many types of "legal plunder."
Thomas Jefferson us often referred to as the first libertarian (along with Thomas Paine). Jefferson advocated for a 100% inheritance tax (along with Franklin) and was able to convince Adans to sign a moderate inheritance tax. The purpose of that tax was to prevent plutocracy. Jefferson also proposed a progressive geometric tax on land, so the more land you owned the higher percentage of tax you were required to pay. It was specifically designed to destroy land monopolies, and zero tax on small farms and small land holdings. The US „libertarians“ who chant „taxes are theft“ are a type of pseudo-libertarianism that was manipulated by wealthy oligarchs to obfuscate the term „libertarian“. For Jefferson all institutions that served a self interested minority at the expense of the majority should not be allowed to exist and ought to be dismantled. And it is obvious in their writings, for example pseudo-libertarians will even go out of their way to distort John Locke, because Locke viewed private property as a means for a person to secure the fruits of their labor. The Lockean Proviso is the principle that there should be enough property left for others, which the pseudo-libertarians purposely left out of the Lockean literature. The ideal was universal property ownership which would create sovereign citizens who were not subjected to manipulation from landlords. Adam Smith also viewed landlords as parasites.
I want to say this about transgender people in general. I am 67 years old. There has always been transgender people just like there has always been gays and lesbians. About the nonbinary trans discussion, I'd like to share my thoughts as a nonbinary person. Some nonbinary people feel uncomfortable calling themselves trans (for whatever reason, maybe they feel like they're not "trans enough", etc) and that should be respected, but so should nonbinary people calling themselves trans. Being trans is simply not identifying with the gender assigned to you. So in my eyes, it's completely valid and true to call yourself trans as a nonbinary person if that's how you choose to describe yourself. I like to just use the umbrella term of "queer" personally to encompass my identity and sexuality into one word but that's how I see all of that
Thank you. I'm non-binary and while I don't have a particularly strong identification with being trans, I personally am okay with people seeing me such and if someone asked me "Are you cis or trans?" I'd likely go with trans. After I came out as enby my gf made us fancy breakfast meals with little enby and trans flags stuck into mine and I found it very sweet.
My building doesn't have gendered toilets and no one finds it weird. It's the bathroom, just keep it respectful. There's even a shower stall right by the toilet stalls. This guys whole tone is very mocking and sarcastic. It’s a common tactic that I see in my hyper conservative community. Very rarely does someone have a reasoned argument for whatever they’re against. They just make fun of it as though their perspective is so obvious that no one on the other side could have a sincere perspective.
Conservatives look at the learned biases that they and everyone in their insular community hold and call it "common sense." Any deviation simply must be wrong and requires no proof or real arguments beyond an appeal to their biases they call common sense.

A message to the other "normal gays" out there. You will not be picked. You will not be the chosen one. You won't be "one of the good ones" forever. It doesn't matter how many times they say "love the sinner, hate the sin." The right is not your ally.

@@slimal1 Do your opinions align with what they say, or what they do? And furthermore, with what their politicians say, or what their politicians do? All four of these are almost entirely separate camps.
"don't make your sexuality / gender all of your personality" usually just means "you're not adopting the status quo culture like I am, why are you not "normalizing" yourself to fit the standards and aesthetics of the status quo like I am"
How is this phenomenon supposed to even be surprising? The vast majority of people aren't creative, aren't heroic, aren't gifted or outstanding, aren't famous for anything, don't have notable careers, so their only option to avoid saying "I am nobody and nothing" is to shift to trivial things like gender, sexual orientation, family, temper/mood, illnesses or disorders or lack of these. It's what's immediately available. I don't think it's wrong or unhealthy to make your whole personality out of them, because it is understandable to be dreaded of one's insignificance, but presenting as "nobody" with no personality either shoudn't be frowned upon either, if the circumstances gave you nothing special.
The wonderful thing is that we don't have to pay any attention to these kinds of people. As a bisexual, I am a bit worried about the new definition of lesbian as "attraction to every gender except CIS men. In abstract I don't care about this definition, in practice it worries me given thatbisexual women have been historically ostracized by the lesbian community on the basis of their attraction to men (and thus, being attacked for being perceived as not loyal or as less politically "correct" to the lesbian/feminist cause). I hope this new definition will not result in new discourse of bisexual women being less politically "woke" than lesbian people as, per this new definition, they are attracted/have relationships with cis men. This does not relate personally to me as a bisexual trans person that is in mostly T4T relationships, but it makes me worried for my bisexual sisters that have endured decades of ostraticazion and discrimination both outside and inside the gay and lesbian community, and I would not want this new definition to result in another wave of biphobic misogyny.
Since the majority of sapphics are bi women , I don't think that's likely. Additionally, the most common definitions of lesbian are wlw and non-man x non-man, which already exclude men, so why would this 'everyone but cis men' definition cause ostracization? Never seen anyone say bi women were 'less woke' for dating men, though sapphics who aren't attracted to nonbinary people are sometimes criticised for this.
Based (modern vernacular) = honest, straight forward, uncensored, uncaring. Base (old vernacular) = simple, stupid, uncontrolled, slave to emotions. See the Salem Witch Trails play 'The Crucible' for contextual usage.
Base/ bass- lowest level. Based meaning lowest most animalistic instincts, or even lower, controlled by the devil, low acts closest to hell, as opposed to highest, civilised, cultured, most spiritually pure, closest to heaven. Basal cells being the base/ lowest cells that make of the foundation layer of skin.
Newer meaning of based seems to me to be the basic facts, bare bones, to the point, nothing embellished or sugar-coated, or elevated, and therefore authentic. But I don't hang out with people who use the word in speech, so it's just my interpretation from the context of what I see written.
I don't know what Dylan intended, but I do agree with what she literally said. I don't think it should be allowed for media /journalist to be openly hateful toward any group. They should minimally be heavily fined and the writer should be fired. Misgendering and deadnaming trans people is harmful in proven and tangable ways. It's absolutely vile that any "journalist" would be so fucking cruel.

Brad was mostly making weird faces while consistently being transphobic and briefly claiming that nonbinary people don't exist. You can't really comment on his long stretches of silence. At different points in the video Emma consistently points out how erroneous Brad's transphobia is, such as at 31:47, when Brad was just making goofy faces as a trans woman tried to explain how she personally felt (including how Emma herself has been targeted by transphobes who make assumptions simply based on physical appearance).
as a trans masculine person I can't really imagine people like me wanting to identify as lesbians so I'm not sure how I feel about that part of the first tiktok but just because it would make me feel dysphoric AF doesn't mean that's true for everyone else so if identifying as lesbian makes folk happy good for them.
I could maybe see how someone who identified as a lesbian might be sad to let that part of their identity go when they transition. Maybe we could have a term like "lesbian emeritus" for trans men?
I've met a few trans masc non-binary people who identify as lesbians, but zero trans men. I'm a trans man, and I definitely wouldn't want someone who found me attractive to do so as a lesbian. That would feel like she doesn't see me as a man. I don't think the woman in the video was intending to be insulting or erasing. Maybe she's a little bisexual and hasn't realized that about herself yet. Or maybe she can find more femme presenting trans men attractive on a surface level. Whatever. I don't know her and I'm not dating her, so it's really not a big deal.

This attitude is why I don't feel comfortable as a trans lesbian going into most explicitly queer spaces in Sweden. Right from the start, literally as soon as I came out to myself and started trying to explore my identity onliine (not even in person), there were loud voices everywhere from random reddit users to the major LGBTQI organisations (not a typo, these orgs explicitly stop after the I and exclude ace people) telling me to shut up and be grateful for the status quo. I spend enough mental energy trying to get private prescriptions and actually find pharmacies willing to fill said perfectly legal prescriptions, ignore the active research in this country trying to link trans identity to pollutants, and just cope with all the anxiety and depression that builds up when trying to transition in a country that has made it very clear that trans people are not actually welcome, why would I spend my free time going into spaces with cis queers waiting to tell me I deserve it for being alive?
27:57 Being a heterosexual male with no significant contact with LGBTQ+ people beyond a few gay friends and a transgender relative, I wasn't aware there was "discourse" within it about the status of non-binary people. I'm sorry to hear that there are voices in that community that wish to set up barriers and _exclude_ others. All my adult life I have acted on my political view that ALL people should enjoy the freedom to live their lives as they choose and not have a society telling them who they should love, how they should perceive their own gender, etc. _Inclusivity_ is what it is all about and I will continue to act according to that ideal. I hope those who are trying to exclude others from their group will come to realize they may be repeating the very mistake that society has made and which has brought so much pain to their own lives. 33:05 Great points about violence and physical safety! Just so that I'm not misunderstood about what I meant with "inclusivity", I totally understand why people within those groups might want to create their own "safe spaces", shared only with others like them. And they should have the freedom to do so.
Gay and lesbian are inherently exclusive. That's why the Q community wants to erase those of us who won't abdicate voluntarily. That does not mean outsiders shouldn't have their own spaces and their own freedom, even though it's the Inclusivity Uber Alles crowd that is trying to impose compbi on us.
I'm with Dylan here. _Intentionally_ misgendering and deadnaming someone should count as insult. That still leaves some wiggle room for courts (just like with "regular" insults), but that trans people can't even have _that_ is kinda ridiculous.
The right's obsession with Dylan is legitimately disturbing. I know Brad's video a year old now, and I'm in no way trying to downplay the absolute hell trans people in general have been and are still going through, but when it comes to a specific name, I've personally seen her's pop up the most even to this day. I guess her social media numbers, and without a doubt the Bud Light panic play a big part, but it still doesn't make it any less creepy, especially with it now being a whole year since the BL shit. WTAF?
In regards to the dietician, the video was clearly not about whether a certain type of food is healthy or not. This was a credited professional making a statement that food doesn’t need guilt attached to it. Generally, dieticians work with people to help them make actionable and healthy changes to their diet, that they can also stick with. It doesn’t necessarily mean zero sugar, it means balancing the unhealthy with the healthy. If you like cereal, then choosing something with more vitamins and fibre (if you feel like it) and complementing it with other types of food that is nutritious and helps you feel sated for longer, is a good choice that you are more likely to stick to than say, replacing it with say, a green smoothie or oats. A lot of the work is also about destigmatising food. Food has no inherent moral value. It’s okay to enjoy a chocolate bar now and then, it won’t kill you. If you eat a bar a day, or several a day, then you likely have some underlying issue that needs dealing with.

Just read through it and I don't think it says anything like that, just seems to be an update to the deformation rules in general. I never understood the "categorization" of sexual attraction. It just seems... irrelevant. People like whom they like. People dislike whom they dislike. Being inclusive or exclusive of specific groups doesn't mean you are a "bad lesbian" or a "good enby" or whatever. It just means you are you.
This is why I don't want to label my sexuality, or at the very least I'm not in a hurry to. I'm attracted to whoever I find attractive, regardless of their gender.
When he said "the word lesbian will lose all meaning" I thought, why not let it lose all meaning? I think people who love each other should be allowed to love each other express that love in the way they want. Who cares if we call it "lesbian" or not? All these labels are great when they unite you with a group you identify with but it's so easy to use labels to create an us vs. them mentality. Why not just be happy for the woman in the video? If her labels don't march yours, just translate! When she says, "I love being in a lesbian relationship" what she really means is that "I relate to lesbians, and I love being in my relationships with other women". That's it, be happy for her, stop creating more division that is already so prevalent in this world
@@valolafson6035 yeah, you can't really have things both ways. A word cannot unite people if it's not meaningful. If a word isn't meaningful, why use it in the first place? How is Lesbians using a meaningful word to describe themselves a good thing?
My understanding of the body positivity movement was that it was just saying 'don't bully people over their weight' and that there are different body types, not everyone can attain the same level of 'thin' no matter how hard they try. I've never heard of a body positivity movement that literally encourages people to be obese, but that is how the far-right likes to portray it because they feel oppressed when they get told they can't bully people.
Also there is a huge contradiction with how the right feels about body positivity, because they get upset when they get told they can't bully people over their weight and claim this means people are 'encouraging morbid obesity', but on the flipside because Corporations like to cut corners and sell unhealthy food without any regulations, Conservatives and especially the far-right love to defend unhealthy food products and claim regulations are the same as 'removing freedoms', when really they are about protecting the health of the consumer. So basically the right is just pushing the worst of both worlds, all attacking the body positivity movement is about is just purely about their right to bully people, it has nothing to do with caring about healthy lifestyles.
@@kuggacouragegx6093 Well that's the thing, these extremists are so obscure that you have to scour the internet to find them, like almost every single person in the body positivity movement just says 'bullying people into being thin is counter productive' and 'not everyone has the same body type so not everyone should expect to be that body type'. Even body positive models are usually just people with some curves, they aren't people in any actual danger of impacting their health. But when it comes to the extremes of those who are against the body positivity movement, or against LGBTQ+ people or scientific reasoning or people who aren't 'white', these extremists are much more prevalent in number. I mean, I only have to log into Twitter to see them in their thousands, calling for extreme laws to be passed, people with millions behind them, huge platforms being broadcast all over the world, not just some random TikTok or tiny TH-cam channel that had like 20 views until someone stumbled on it to hate watch it. The examples of extremism are much more prevalent on one side than they are on the other. Also we see a massive exaggeration of what's considered 'extreme' at times. Only this weekend in my country a Conservative politician called the main opposition, the Labour party, 'hard left', but the majority of the Labour Parties policies are moderate centrist policies, there is virtually nothing about them that is 'hard left' whatsoever. I think that the overton window has moved so far to the right that something fairly mild or moderate is now considered 'extreme', whereas on the right the most extreme policies and ideologies are now believed to be more 'moderate'. This idea that there is a huge movement of people trying to turn everyone obese is just a lie, and the main thing making the majority of people obese is actually the lack of regulation in corporations who are able to get away with putting tonnes of sugar and salt in their food to try to get people to buy more of it.
Diet culture is so harmful to so many, in fatal ways. Many fat activists have taken the position that weight loss should be okay to be off the table for people who don't want to do that anymore. You don't have to be constantly dieting to be a "good fatty". You can choose to never try to lose weight, never want to be thin, never try to change your body, and you are just as valid a human being as any other. Anti-fat bigots have labeled that as "glorifying" or "celebrating" obesity. When it's actually just accepting, and loving your body as is, and not making the pursuit of someone else's ideals a key focus of your life.
So technically the body positivity movement started as a disability acceptance movement, and while I think it makes sense for fat people to be broadly included (e.g. people with limited mobility will often be overweight), I know a lot of disability activists are miffed how it was basically taken over by fat acceptance.
@@erraticonteuse well that's something to criticise it for at least, disability and physical disfigurement deserve recognition too. Same with height differences, different ethnic beauty standards, it should all be about normalising difference. The problem is there is currently a movement to shame people into being one way, looking one way, it's motivated by supremacist movements and elites who want to turn the world into their personal plaything to mould how they want. I have genuine disdain for people who buy into this attack on our freedoms and equality. We must oppose it at every opportunity.
40:00 "Taxation is theft" is NOT a communist principle. Quite the contrary, it's a basic tenet of the Libertarian Party, which favors lassez-faire capitalism.

When my wife said yes, this teen girl looked at her and said, "I really rate you." It made my wife's day.

sexuality, romance, and identity became too divided in modern days, we like things in neat little boxes and we like to belong to them. for most of history the concept of "homossexuality" wasn't even a thing, people slept with people of the same or opposite sex, and depending on your culture it would be accepting or rejected, but almost never classified as it's own state of being, just something some people did. that is because those things are spectrums, not fixed points. but the tribalistic nature of humanity makes us create groups that we belong to based on our internal identity, and I believe the interconectivity of the globalized world made it much MUCH stronger.
sadly though the necessity to belong is too strong, and even after saying that I'm also a victim of this mentality.
" that shouldn't break some sacred seal of lesbianism,"

it is an ancient seal, dating back thousands of years, and to break it would be akin to opening Pandora's box.
the fate of the world hangs in balance!
I told someone who said she used to be attracted to girls and is now attracted to guys and now has a boyfriend that "you are attracted to what you are attracted to" and she nodded pretty enthusiastically.
I think sexual attraction is far more complex than we give it credit for, and putting labels on can harm us and structures power and value towards a certain preference or group.

when I was 23, I worked at Crater Lake National Park in my home state of Oregon, and because it's at the top of a mountain and many miles from any towns...the employees lived in dorms there.
THIS! Maybe America should fix the fucked up bathroom stalls with short doors and huge cracks in the wall first. Personal privacy is genderless.
@TimPetrone you are the kind of person I wish I knew more of IRL
The way "woke' is used now, it means having the slightest iota of compassion and understanding.
and/or
If we're going by the usage of the word woke, then conservative voices, who probably use the word the most, should count for a lot, and then just knowing there is global warming and hoping we'll all die because of it is still considered woke, and compassion is then not required.

1982 Athenaeus quotes Alexis..as saying that there was ‘not another wine pleasanter to drink’ than Lesbian. Hesperia vol. 55 255
it's also surprisingly modern too. some 19th century writters used "sapphic" to refer to romance between two women in reference of Sappho, but the term "lesbian" as we know it became a thing in the 20th century.
Well, "lesbian" only came to mean sapphic because it was the name of the place where Sappho came from. But, yeah, two words based on the one amazing women whose poetry fragments survived from so long ago.

Comment at 1:09: Oh, we're talking about Brad Polumbo. Expectations are now set appropriately.

That's it, be happy for her, stop creating more division that is already so prevalent in this world
But at the same time, those words are meaningful to people. If someone wants to be called 'lesbian', let them.
@@valolafson6035 yeah, you can't really have things both ways. A word cannot unite people if it's not meaningful. If a word isn't meaningful, why use it in the first place? How is Lesbians using a meaningful word to describe themselves a good thing?
Bigots will always find ways to try and demonize those they want to target.
Agreed. Communists are focused on worker rights and the genocide of Palestinians by Israel. How money is used comes into play with issues like Biden arming and funding a genocide, which Communists are critical about.
This reminds me of a Steven Wright joke: "I recently found out I'm possessed by the spirit of a nineteenth century woman. It's really not a problem for me because she was a lesbian."
I'm sorry, but he's got creepy serial killer smile vibes.

Having been an Ayn Rand fanboy, I recognize another one when I see one. He'll either recognize it's b.s. like I did, or get really pernicious.
Here in Portland, Oregon we like to say, "Keep Portland Weird." I hope _you_ stay "weird" as well, Emma!
