    Make sure that your pen tool is in "path" not "shape" mode. That's an important piece of info. Without the "path" mode, this will not work.

    in this tutorial i learnt that, by clicking alt or option, i can turn every point into a curve.

    For the shortcut lovers (like moi):
    With the path selected, just control+click on the "Mask" button at the bottom of the "Layers" palette.

    why is mine inverted? When I use the pen tool, the inside of the shape is erased/masked, not the outside. pleas help!

  • @Lomaxient
    @Lomaxient 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    To invert a vector mask:
    Highlight the path with the pen tool (ctrl click it).
    Go to the pen tool options on the top bar.
    Find the path operations drop down (it looks like two square on top of each other).
    select one of the other options from that list.

    Really great tute Aaron, my only complaint is 'very small': sometimes you aren't zoomed in very much, and it's hard to see what you're doing with your cursor. I'm sure it looks fine on your screen, but viewing on a tablet or even a TV, some of the little tweaks you make are almost invisible. Thanks for teaching me this much easier way to rotoscope!

    It's useful to mention the shortcuts as well: ctrl+shift+click-the-mask-icon-in-layers-panel and the same with ctrl+alt

    Extremely useful tutorial but I still have a problem. I cannot modify a layer because the point is not inside the vector mask of a visible layer. How can I do this? After creating a route with the Pen tool I was able to modify it then I changed tools, went back to the pen tool when I realized I could no longer change the path of my route. What did I do wrong? please and thank you!

    Hi Aaron
    When copy a vector from illustrator and paste to Photoshop as a shape layer it is pixelated. Photoshop adds grey areas to edges.
    How to properly paste to photoshop even it is small (like QR codes)?
    (look at the screenshot: i.imgur.com/CwZAwHq.png)
    Thanks

    When I create a path and then go to level>vector mask>current path what is inside the shape is hidden. Why is it not the opposite? I want what is outside the shape to be hidden as in the video. Thanks :)

  • @melb5996
    @melb5996 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting but I still prefer the standard method, just create a path with the pen tool and, if required, 'command click' on path ( in path pallet) to make a selection. Nothing could be simpler! Sometime only the photographer can create an accurate path because only he/she knows where the edges are. That is, on many 3 dimensional objects (especially if they have a shiny surface) it can be impossible to tell where the object ends and the 'background' begins as sometimes you can have a perfect mirror effect on the object you are cutting out. I like to see the actual background at all times while creating the path otherwise it would be very easy to 'remove' part of the object being cut out by mistake. A tip for paths in dark shadow areas ( usually underneath ) where you can't see the edge, look in the channels pallet to find one (R,G or B ) that shows the most contrast in the shadow detail and 'duplicate' it. Adjust levels ( or curves) so that you can see everything in the shadow, finish your path and then delete the duplicated channel.

    Lovely! but I started by sellecting the object using the quick sellection tool, than added a Vector mask on which I have chosen to make a path out of the sellection, then I more easily and faster refined the path...

      However... what I do is use the Quick Selection Tool, then right click your selection and choose Make Work Path. You can adjust how many points will show up (more/less Tolerance), can still adjust all of them and save yourself a bunch of time. You can then use the path in the exact way Aaron describes in his video.
