  • Making a good cut-out for a tree in Photoshop isn't that easy. We are lucky to have the AI on our side that helps us to remove backgrounds and replace the sky if we want it. However, we still have to come up with different solutions that make the final result realistic. If this trick helped you, leave some feedback in the comments!

Great video. I took hiatus around 2018 and a lot has changed since then. I'm glad to know that my initial theory about the techniques used have not changed.
It's one thing to "Defringe" and allow the automation to make key assumptions about your intentions. A more narrow field of "spray and pray", so to speak.
However, taking the extra steps to refine the mask and Shifting Hue & Sat of infringing outlined color is so perfectly surgical that it helps keep professional retouchers employed. A few extra seconds can be all the time in the world when you're trying not to be replaced by cell phone applications.
No doubt that using this tutorial will produce the best results for those interested in or earning a living through compositing images.
Thanks for the work you're doing here. Your content is always clear and succinct, plus you stay on topic.
I have been able to get back up to speed on all the enhanced capabilities in PS and LR thanks to your content. I feel like just saying "Thanks, bro" wouldn't match the quality I've received.
    Cheers!

Fantastic! These are the kinds of Photoshop techniques that separate the pros from the amateurs. Non-destructive editing, great use of adjustment and clipping layers, other things I know I should be doing but usually don't 🤣

Great tutorial. In the latest part, if you add a complex background, with many different colours, instead of the solid colour and the mask, you can have a copy of that same background (with the mask), and the colour details on the leaves (or whatever you have) will match the background perfectly.

I think what not talked about enough is, using the "minimum" and "maximum" features on a masking layer. Its not as good as this, but it is very good in it self and it very fast and easy to use.
