Because thats a remake you dummy. Its easier to remake an existing game than it is to create a brand new IP. Plus CP was taking a risk with their melee focused combat.
Imo Dead Space has genuinely interesting lore, and necromorphs are pretty unique. CP literally just has “alien parasites” with no other lore or interesting background,
It is very ironic but let's not forget the original makers of this game was limited by the technology at the time I believe he could have made it even better if the tech was available then
@Peter Brickthrower yeah the melee combat didn't work with multiple enemies, but you did have other tools in your arsenal like the grip for crowd control. There were also a lot of environmental hazards that you could throw enemies into for insta kills.
What I hated about Callisto Protocol was that you didn’t know if you were going along the main path or to a secret area, so if you missed something by going the main path, you can’t go back because sometimes the doors lock behind you.
I hated that too. What i did was i just looked for the loading symbol on screen if that popped up I turned around and went to the other room i didn’t miss any collectibles that way and got the platinum on my first playthrough.
You simply are bad at playing games.. Never heard that complain before. I played the game and never had a problem with directions. you simply need to pay attention and explore zones correctly. basically what you ask , is that the game hold your hand , and guide you , so you don't get lost.. as if the game was that big.. lol
Locking door behind you is so ps3 and xbox360 era, even in the OG deadspace there was a way to return and used your cores to open door and get other things.
If that's the worst complaint about Callisto, then it isn't that bad at all. You just need to search harder. I've been enjoying CP with its incredible sound design, graphics and intensity. Definitely looking forward to playing this remake though!
The Callisto Protocol had so many promises It couldn't keep. Schofield was so confident we'd be terrified and captivated by the story that I also wanted to trust his words. We could also blame the media for hyping our expectations so much. However, I'm happy Dead Space turned out to be exactly what we hoped for.
I dont understand all this hate towards callsito protocol sure it's not as long as dead space , but it packs a lot of good things - graphics : great - story : great - Actors : great - combat : great Yeah some performance issues but now its smooth as butter , if you haven't play callsito protocol play its definitely worth it
That's exactly what i have been saying.. This is proof that you can't Trust in major gaming review sites and instead should look for true independent game reviews at STEAM for example. majority of the reviews at steam are mostly positive. Callisto is an awesome spectacular game , and there is nothing wrong with its combat.. or anything else. Most people complains is because they have slow PCs or slow consoles or that don't understand that they are not under obligation to use Melee combat at all , and can use fire arms , or stealth or telekinetic hand for all in about 99% of the time.

I enjoyed both games. People need to appreciate games more and stop complaining about every little thing. Then when they abandon the title everyone will complain they should've had a sequel.
The atmosphere is what makes both games so awesome. Yes Callisto fell short in many regards and Dead Space remake exceeded it in almost every way, but I'm grateful they both exist. Just ran through Callisto a 2nd time after beating DS and still thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially the later levels.

Callisto was not bad at all imo for what it is but they focused too much on the melee and the weapons are not half as interesting than in dead space 🤷♂️
I'll definitely cop Callisto when it's on sale for $10. That being said, I'm on my way to pick up the DS Remake. Super excited...the original was a part of my childhood.
Callisto isn’t trying to be dead space, developers didn’t want it to be. Callisto is a great game that fits perfectly along side DS. We are lucky to have two different developers working on two great games. I’m looking forward to see what Callisto does with its DLC coming out in May I believe.

I bought Callisto for PS5 and Dead Space Remake for XSX to compare so far 3 hours in Callisto and I’m liking the game. I don’t see why it gets shitted on so much. It’s not dead space of course not it’s a different game even if it’s by the same creators you can’t expect it to be exactly the same it’s different and it’s a gorgeous game. It’s deserving of a sequel and I hope they make it because we need more games like this.
Replayed Callisto Protocol with new game plus after the updates combined with the 60fps mode. The gameplay is much smoother than my initial experience. The update addresses the gang jank during melee.
honestly callisto protocol isnt a terribly bad game, its a fun bad game. while the mechanics of it are questionable, the game can still be quite fun at times
Callisto is an awesome game , check in steam ,the last 2,000 reviews are MOSTLY positive. and all this trash talk against callisto proof that you can't trust in elite gaming sites at all ,for your game reviews. they are highly corrupt and they also receive economic benefits and free games and hardware for giving good scores to some games over others.
I think it compares somewhat to The Force Unleashed. There's some ridiculously impressive visual tech driving the whole thing, and some really cool ideas, but the game as a whole is a somewhat janky mess. Plus, they both have Sam Witwer! I think the major difference is that Callisto lacks a worthwhile story to provide a reason for you to bother with it (or return to it again later).
I just finished calisto protocol and have just jumped into dead space remake, and the remake gave me all the tension and atmosphere that it did years ago, calisto protocol while fun in parts where you aren’t sneaking around stabbing the same enemy for a full chapter or two, I just didn’t get that heart racing tension that I did with dead space and the remake has elevated that! However if a Callisto sequel ever happens I’ll definitely play it as I still enjoyed my time.

Callisto Protocol does everything worse than its predesessor. I cannot phatom how someone can be okay with Callisto Protocols combat.
This comparison is not fair. We all wished that Callisto protoco lived up to the hype and it's legacy to dead space. But sadly it didn't, I think people rated Callisto too harshly because they were comparing it too much to dead space. I feel like if you would have just judged it on its own merits. It would have gotten better reviews. Because it's not a bad game. I really enjoyed playing it.
I mean the marketing was pretty on the nose that Callisto's devs were the OG Dead Space crew so it isn't the consumers fault they expected something similar.
I judge Callisto as a terrible game because it’s not fun to play. It’s only nice to look at and not when the actors are performing their lazily performed roles. It’s an impressive tech demo more so than an impressive game. And that is completely of its own merit. Absolutely abysmal to play through. And they completely marketed this like a dead space game. Only showed how creepy everything is and nothing about the gameplay. Because they know it was terrible.

My opinion when it comes to combat in Callisto Protocol is not that low. I personally like that there are variations. First you can pass some parts without fighting, the second option is silent elimination of the opponent, the third option is melee combat and the fourth option is run and gun. Apart from the problem with frame stuttering on the first day, which was already 90 percent resolved the next day, CP is above average. It's true, it could have been better, but if it's a bad game, it's certainly not, and I sincerely hope that we'll have the opportunity to play the second part and that the story continues because the game has potential.
Agreed, callisto made it to quarter final of the horror game tournament mostly carried by its presentation, dead space remake makes it to the final to face off against silent hill 2
@espi371 Stop it. Just because it's not better than DS doesn't make it trash. Play it on sale or for free, especially after the patches, it plays great now. If DS is 9 out of 10 then CP is a 7 out of 10.
I'm enjoying Calisto protocol. It's not at all scary or that difficult. But for a one time playthrough it's fine. I never played Dead Space and I pre ordered it. So really looking forward to giving it a go.
I'm happy Dead Space is getting more love by new gamers that haven't played Dead Space trust me this is a classic your really going to enjoy it. There's also dead space 2 and dead space 3 and of course the original dead space the one that is remade. Your really in for a treat. 👍
Dead Space will make you realise how shit CP is, especially considering that they are the same price. Dead Space has so much more replay value as well.
You mention it here and I think it bears bringing up again: the peeling system is genuinely a game-changer, and something that easily makes this the best that Dead Space's combat has ever been. It's almost like an evolution of Doom Eternal's similar visual damage indicators, but rather than simply giving you an estimate of enemy health and where you've dealt the most damage, it now is providing specific tactical information on how best to slow or defeat that enemy. It also gives added function to weapons that previously never felt especially suited to the series' focus on dismemberment, as weapons like the flamethrower and force gun are arguably best used as a way to melt away those first couple of layers before you follow up with a slicing weapon. I underestimated how great of an addition the peeling system would be and am going to really miss it when I inevitably replay Dead Space 2 soon.
I'm glad you mentioned Doom Eternal. Last year, when the Dead Space remake was revealed and they talked about the peeling system, all I could think about was the 'destructible demons' of Doom Eternal. It's such an awesome little visual detail in both games!
Can we keep some perspective please? Without Glen and visceral there would be no remake. Callisto may have been a misstep but give the man some respect.
If you think about it, TCP has a lot of Glen's vision about DS' future before they booted him. Some even say TCP looks and feels like Glen's version of DS3.

Right. I enjoyed my time with it. Nothing ground breaking or epic but the game was mostly fun save a few parts and I enjoy railing on the monsters and tossing them around.
I’m playing through The Callisto Protocol. It’s a decent game that succeeds at what it wants to do, which is science fiction horror. I would call it a narrative experience, though, because it feels like a movie with how photorealistic it appears. It’s fun, but in different aspects compared to Resident Evil 4 Remake. I’m not sure how far I am into the game, but I’ve enjoyed my time with it so far. It’s not near perfect compared to RE4R, but it’s still good.
To be sincere, I was rooting really hard for Glen & Callisto Protocol, especially after EA terminated both all those years ago. But then Callisto releases and its mired with so many issues and controversy (selling death animations), also the game just not very good either. To go back to the beast that killed Dead Space to begin with, EA & Motive knocked it out of the park with the Dead Space Remake and successfully resurrected a beloved survival horror title.
People taking sides in TCP vs DS Remake is silly. You can have/enjoy both. Played TCP, and I enjoyed it for what it was. This Dead Space Remake looks awesome, and I'm eager to play it.
You left out the most important aspect of both titles: Dead Space Remake released as a FINISHED product. New Game+ mode included at launch; the ending of the game comes with the base game, no DLC purchase required; all death animations come with the base game, no DLC purchase required; and the performance and optimization is actually really good. In every possible aspect, Dead Space Remake is a FULL and COMPLETE product. Meanwhile, Callisto Protocol devs rushed the game out the door in an obviously incomplete state, just so they could have their game out before the Dead Space Remake. Instead of taking their time with the game, they were more concerned with "We gotta beat Dead Space Remake to the punch!" And as a result: there was no New Game+ mode available at launch - that was included in a later patch; not all death animations are included in the base game - you need to buy DLC/season pass; the actual ending to the game is locked behind future DLC, so you have to hand out some more money if you want to see how the story ends. And of course, the performance and optimization.... Again, the devs and publisher were more concerned with getting the game out to the public as fast as possible. As a result, the game shipped in a completely unoptimized state. Callisto Protocol was already a pretty subpar game even on its own merits. And it becomes downright *PATHETIC* when compared to the Dead Space Remake.
The Callisto Protocol is the most underrated game that received so much hate, that quite frankly was unfair in my opinion. A lot of people expected that game to BE Dead Space given that it was a spiritual successor, but to me that's not the definition of what a spiritual successor is. Yeah okay it doesn't have the same fear/scare factor as Dead Space, but who cares. It's still a fun game. A lot of people I see in the comments section saying to people that like both games, that they have to choose one. Why is that? Why should someone have to choose one over the other. If they liked both games, then who are you to tell them otherwise? I myself have never played a Dead Space game before, so when I get my PS5 finally, this game will be the first I will be getting.
Let's not give EA too much credit for actually letting their passionate and talented devs do their jobs for once. This is what happens when you don't shove mtx or live service crap in everyone's faces.

The dead space remake was excellent! As for the colisto protocol, it did not meet all my expectations but I thought it was still a pretty good game. I'm hoping the team behind Colisto is able to make a sequel to really flesh out the story and hopefully improve the gamesplay.

I had no expectations for Dead Space. I wasn't even sure if I was going to get it. I'm glad I did. Got to chapter 11 today and plan on going right back in for NG+ and will even attempt impossible mode and plasma cutter only run. I have also played Callisto but haven't beat yet and even deleted it. IDK if I will go back to it.
Too much hate I sense on this one. Yoda says...come on guys give a break to Callisto Protocol, let it become the game it is meant to be and also support new ip's unless you like big companies to sell you the same games over and over again, I know big publishers might sponsor you in a way but show some respect to others hard work.
I finally purchased an XBox Series X along with the remake of “Dead Space”. I also paid the extra $10.00 for the Digital Upgrade Deluxe Edition Code. I really want the physical copy of this game itself that is why I ordered the physical disc separately. FedEx will be delivering both to my front door tomorrow early in the morning. :)> I have never played any “Dead Space” games before and playing it for the first time as a “Remake” on a Next GEN updated phenomenal Console is going to be the perfect way to experience this game. I am very happy in this very moment. 😎 My next game for the XBox Series X is going to be “Cyberpunk 2077”…I absolutely adore the way the game looks…it almost reminds me of the movie “Bladerunner”. I am holding off on “the Callisto Protocol” until the price comes down.

I think the story in Calisto Protocol was pretty close to terrible. It was pretty bare bones and the villain was cliche as all hell. What were their motives again? I got to the end, died three times fighting the final boss, then got bored and never picked it up again. And even though that was just last week, I don't even remember what the villains wanted. That game's narrative was absurdly weak.
Never played Dead Space. Enjoyed the Callisto Protocol, minus the early graphic mess. Because of that experience, I actually want to play Dead Space now.
Early graphics ? ps5 was released in 2020, what year is it now, 2023 is still early?? Think if the ps4 was released in 2014 but its games are from 2030 the graphics like drive club and the order 1886

The Callisto Protocol may have its strengths and weaknesses, but it's also Considered as a very good spiritual successor to Dead Space. While I thoroughly enjoyed playing Dead Space Remake, I also thoroughly enjoyed playing The Callisto Protocol. Both of these games deserve a special recognition. The Callisto Protocol may have a rocky launch, but with the Recent Updates, Patches and Fixes to the gameplay, I am happy to say that The Callisto Protocol is a Fantastic game to play for Survival horror fans and fans of Resident Evil and Dead Space.
Considered by who? You? It's all subjective of course but the overwhelming consensus was that Callisto protocol was a huge disappointment. The original Dead Space was so much better and it sounds like the remakes improves on it. I hope a Callisto sequel improves on the first game but as it stands Callisto is NOT a worthy successor

Hearing glen Schofield say that he wasn't trying to make the callisto protocol better than dead space after the game finally released, kinda made me think maybe he should've had that mindset of being better for his game, maybe then there would have been even less people thinking the callisto protocol was a disappointment
Callisto Protocol launched with many bugs & performance issues, zero NG+ mode, short campaign with cliffhanger ending, low environment & enemy variety, gameplay feels forced. Dead Space Remake launches with almost no bugs, has a NG+ mode, a considerably longer campaign, more enemy variety, & gameplay is not forced nor repetitive. I wanted to like Callisto Protocol, and parts I do like, but the Devs made so many mistakes that I can't help but wonder, WTF were they thinking? Striking Distance Studios would have been better off delaying Callisto Protocol to fix many of its issues & let the Dead Space Remake come out & wet gamer's appetite for sci-fi horror, and then release Callisto protocol. This is what they should have done. As it is, Callisto feels rushed & it hurt them badly.
All these points are relatively fair, but the obvious has to be stated: DSR merely had to expand on an entire framework that had been designed and refined over 3 games. TCP had to stay in the ballpark and simultaneously force differentiation from the same person that proginated Dead Space. Overall DSR is better in many ways, but it's had its own share of fumbles without Schofield at the helm.
Dead Space Remake's devs were low profile, down to earth and quite open throughout the development of this game. Their devotion and passion are evident and the end product speaks volumes about their worth. Callisto on the other hand was overhyped, exhaustively promoted and the devs were overconfident to the point of numbing themselves to what made their original creation great! My hope is that we'll eventually have remakes for the rest of the franchise before a fourth installment is announced and a sequel to Callisto which will actually be great this time around.
The Callisto Protocol failed by virtue of trying several new things no one had really done in the genre previously (because day one tech issues, which Dead Space 2023 also has, have been fixed). With the proper iteration and dev team, the concepts in Callisto could make for a truly groundbreaking survival horror experience. Dead Space is a SLIGHTLY iterative take on what is essentially a perfect game in every aspect of its design. Which one did you think was going to get the praise. I acknowledge Callisto's MANY shortcomings, but Striking Distance at least tried something fresh and innovative in the AAA landscape. Motive stood on the shoulders of absolute fucking giants. They even used some original source code, and many original models. They went in and added extra brushstrokes to an already finished painting. And not even everything they added makes for a better experience. I'm fine with the comparison, and yeah in a vacuum, Dead Space (2023) beats The Callisto Protocol, but that is ONLY because Dead Space (2008) beats The Callisto Protocol as well.
Maybe CP should've play tested their new mechanics early in development so they could've realised how shit it was. Can't believe I lost 90 bucks on that POS. Dead Space Remake is one of the greatest remakes of all time.
@@espi371 On the spectrum of what a remake can be, Dead Space is closer to a remaster or a fan made mod. There is no reimagination, only slight iteration. Which is fine. But if you're going to compare you need to be honest about what each of the things you're comparing actually are. And that is just talking about design philosophy, not the genuine merits of the game. Most of the good can be attributed to the original, while some of the actual changes are problematic. And I'm not talking about Nicole's face, or all inclusive bathrooms, I'm talking about the actual game design, and the motivation of the publisher and developer.

Because if you have, you would realise that it IS a reimagination, peeling system, voiced isaac, circuit brakers, reworked zero g gravity, story changes, side quests, extra lore, reworked weapons, reworked level design and more. The best added feature to the new DeadSpace or remake is the fact that they allowed Isaac to have a verbal part this time as the main protagonist, in the original, Isaac didn't speak at all.
I enjoyed my time with the Callisto protocol. It's not perfect but having never played Dead Space waiting for the remake, I had no comparison stigma. I also have to say that graphics look better on TCP. This is only an opinion of course. Everything else I'll find out when I finish DS. Enjoy your gaming folks
If you never played the original DS, you should be in for a treat. If possible I would suggest playing all three DS main titles. DS3 isn't horrible, it just different. But that's not necessarily bad. But enjoy the DS Remake. You'll enjoy it. Especially if you liked TCP.
The internet makes me feel like I’m one of the only people who genuinely enjoyed Callisto Protocol. I thought it was awesome. I’m playing through dead space remake now and honestly it’s just making me want to play through Callisto again now that new game plus has been added.
While I agreed that the Callisto protocol was very linear ( while that’s fine I expect my survival horror games to be linear, it’s part of the formula). Dead Spaces side content was indeed much better. Combat wise I personally found the Callisto protocols combat to be satisfying. Yes it was heavily melee based which I think worked not only on a story base, being a prisoner in a well a prison. Seems only right you start out with blunt objects to defend yourself. But once you get to the half way point in the game you really don’t have to melee anymore unless you want to. ( I chose to personally because I think that game has one of the best melee combat systems in any game that offers them). It’s like the Last Of Us melee combat cranked up to 11. But I had plenty of guns and ammo to shoot my way through my encounters. As far as horror the original Dead Space scared me, I think it tried playing it when I was like 13 and didn’t revisit that game until I was like 16 after playing and beating Dead Space 2 my favorite out of the franchise. So I can agree Dead Space and the remake the horror hits harder. Put the Callisto Protocol had plenty of moments it keep me on my toes. The sewers, habitat terrain, and maximum security ward where very good sections. Plus the sounds, not knowing when a biophage was going to pop out, timing my doges right, or trying not to get emplaned on spikes keep me in my toes. I think when all said I’m done if The Callisto Protocol was compared to Dead Space 2 more then 1 people would be giving it the credit it deserves. It’s obvious Glen and his team liked what Dead Space 2 brought to the table. Because I can’t help but see the similarities between the two. Maybe that’s why I enjoy Callisto protocol so much. It blended horror, action, and big set pieces beautiful like Dead Space 2.
Callisto Protocol is weird blurry mess.. Dead Space remake is just crispy, sharp and dark in graphics. People give so much shit to Frostbite Engine despite it being far superior game engine to Unreal. No matter how hard it is to work with, talented devs can make great use of it’s powers.
The Callisto Protocol is a really dope game in a few years it will get its due credit, this happens to a lot of really cool games from time to time. No matter how much they cry the game speaks for itself at the end of the day and people will see the truth regardless
Really thought Dead space remake would be a mess like all games and movies lately. But, it's amazingly good. Better that the OG in my opinion. Callisto wasn't that good and now with this remake it's even worse. THX Motive studios for giving us a very polished and passionate work.
I feel sorry in a way for Glen Schofield, because I think if Calisto Protocol could have been delayed a few months that extra dev and polish time could have made it a MUCH better game. That's not to say this is a bad game but it doesn't feel like a Triple A title, perhaps more like a graphically polished Double A or even 2.5 A (like Hellblade) title. I think the combat would work considerably better if dodging were tied to a button instead of the left stick as currently movement when trying to establish crowd control is kinda sucky. I like the melee combat though. I kinda feel like the influence that re4 had on Dead Space's combat dev, games like TLOU 2 and God of War had on Calisto's. In terms of the level design, everything looks great but it's function is lacking, like in a good Double A game. Things look pretty but you can't interact with them at all so they somewhat feel like elements of the press rendered backgrounds of old school survival horror games. Exploration wise I don't look at the game's linear design as problematic. Gears 5 and FF7R both have very linear level design too but both have GREAT moment to moment gameplay AND movement so it doesn't feel like a chore to navigate. Which brings about my last, current criticism of the game. Why is this guy sooooooo slow? I get wanting to build tension but his default movement speed when not in combat is just painfully plodding. What really sucks though is that all of these issues could be remedied in a sequel but with this Dead Space Remake getting such critical acclaim and probably having great sales to match, EA would be foolish not to continue the franchise either via more remakes or an actual Dead Space 4. With Dead Space alive and operating at this quality level out the gate, I can't imagine the Calisto Protocol's publisher/ip holder wanting to go up against EA again and taking that L.
I have both games and enjoy both games. Of course Dead Space is the better game but I feel this is punching down considering the background of both games. One is the first game from a brand new AA studio. The other is a remake of an already almost perfect game. They basically just put extra sprinkles and chocolate on an already great dessert. Yes they could have screwed it up but really as long as they didn't let money make too many decisions and improved the graphics most would have given it a pass. Making the Ishimura one open map is kinda obvious of a decision. Don't get me wrong they did a great job and the things they added make the game even better. But I feel this way of thinking about TCP is why it's getting more hate than I feel it deserves. It's a good first try that can be made better in a sequel or dlc.

Callisto Protocol was developed by most people from Call of Duty and with only the creative director in charged. EA Motive is formed by many people from the original studio of Dead Space, Ubisoft Montreal and BioWare.

I am playing TCP for the second time now. I just love the game. I guess I am in the minority. Pros: Voice acting. sound design. melee weapon feedback. environment. Most if not all enemy design. Cons: Performance. no dedicated dodge button. the story was getting good and it ends abruptly. Jacob runs slowly. No quick turn.
Personally, I don’t care what anybody has to say about Callisto Protocol. I had a absolute blast playing it and look forward to playing again on harder difficulty. Sure it’s not a perfect game but for people to act like it was so horrible is just blatant lies.
It was a horrible game to play on PS4 day one, thankfully it is much better now and I'm looking forward to playing further content, I've recently completed on new game+ and still had plenty of fun!

Callisto Protocol is a great game. I can respect it because it was created by the original people that made Dead Space, that being said the Dead Space remake looks incredible.
The only thing I like better about the original is the enemies followed their own momentum when attacking. In the remake enemies are on a rotating swivel so they can easily crank a 90and hit you in stasis. 10/10
Callisto only kept me going for the story. But dead space had the full ride & its nostalgia was too OP. I hope they remake DS2 & 3 & I hope calisto gets a sequel even though it was underwhelming
Callisto is the better looking game here. I find Deadspace Remake is kind of fuzzy with Character and environments. It still looks good but Callisto had a more crisp image.

Impale them in walls with telekinetic hand, stealth attack from behind with a knife or use pure fire power , amazing Gus. a super shotgun or an assault rifle.. The guns in dead space are toys in comparison. exploration--> he claims that the exploration in deadspace is "better". yet in Callisto you can travel the moon outside , you have have more detailed environments , while in deadspace is low res textured world. with repetitive monsters. he even went as far as to say that the GORE and Horror is better in deadspace.. what a joke review.

@Peter Brickthrower yeah the melee combat didn't work with multiple enemies, but you did have other tools in your arsenal like the grip for crowd control. There were also a lot of environmental hazards that you could throw enemies into for insta kills.
What I hated about Callisto Protocol was that you didn’t know if you were going along the main path or to a secret area, so if you missed something by going the main path, you can’t go back because sometimes the doors lock behind you.
I hated that too. What i did was i just looked for the loading symbol on screen if that popped up I turned around and went to the other room i didn’t miss any collectibles that way and got the platinum on my first playthrough.

Locking door behind you is so ps3 and xbox360 era, even in the OG deadspace there was a way to return and used your cores to open door and get other things.
If that's the worst complaint about Callisto, then it isn't that bad at all. You just need to search harder. I've been enjoying CP with its incredible sound design, graphics and intensity. Definitely looking forward to playing this remake though!
The Callisto Protocol had so many promises It couldn't keep. Schofield was so confident we'd be terrified and captivated by the story that I also wanted to trust his words. We could also blame the media for hyping our expectations so much. However, I'm happy Dead Space turned out to be exactly what we hoped for.

This is proof that you can't Trust in major gaming review sites and instead should look for true independent game reviews at STEAM for example. majority of the reviews at steam are mostly positive. Callisto is an awesome spectacular game , and there is nothing wrong with its combat.. or anything else. Most people complains is because they have slow PCs or slow consoles or that don't understand that they are not under obligation to use Melee combat at all , and can use fire arms , or stealth or telekinetic hand for all in about 99% of the time.

I enjoyed both games. People need to appreciate games more and stop complaining about every little thing. Then when they abandon the title everyone will complain they should've had a sequel.
The atmosphere is what makes both games so awesome. Yes Callisto fell short in many regards and Dead Space remake exceeded it in almost every way, but I'm grateful they both exist. Just ran through Callisto a 2nd time after beating DS and still thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially the later levels.

Callisto isn’t trying to be dead space, developers didn’t want it to be. Callisto is a great game that fits perfectly along side DS. We are lucky to have two different developers working on two great games. I’m looking forward to see what Callisto does with its DLC coming out in May I believe.

I bought Callisto for PS5 and Dead Space Remake for XSX to compare so far 3 hours in Callisto and I’m liking the game. I don’t see why it gets shitted on so much. It’s not dead space of course not it’s a different game even if it’s by the same creators you can’t expect it to be exactly the same it’s different and it’s a gorgeous game. It’s deserving of a sequel and I hope they make it because we need more games like this.
Replayed Callisto Protocol with new game plus after the updates combined with the 60fps mode. The gameplay is much smoother than my initial experience. The update addresses the gang jank during melee.

I think it compares somewhat to The Force Unleashed. There's some ridiculously impressive visual tech driving the whole thing, and some really cool ideas, but the game as a whole is a somewhat janky mess. Plus, they both have Sam Witwer! I think the major difference is that Callisto lacks a worthwhile story to provide a reason for you to bother with it (or return to it again later).
I just finished calisto protocol and have just jumped into dead space remake, and the remake gave me all the tension and atmosphere that it did years ago, calisto protocol while fun in parts where you aren’t sneaking around stabbing the same enemy for a full chapter or two, I just didn’t get that heart racing tension that I did with dead space and the remake has elevated that! However if a Callisto sequel ever happens I’ll definitely play it as I still enjoyed my time.

This comparison is not fair. We all wished that Callisto protoco lived up to the hype and it's legacy to dead space. But sadly it didn't, I think people rated Callisto too harshly because they were comparing it too much to dead space. I feel like if you would have just judged it on its own merits. It would have gotten better reviews. Because it's not a bad game. I really enjoyed playing it.

I judge Callisto as a terrible game because it’s not fun to play. It’s only nice to look at and not when the actors are performing their lazily performed roles. It’s an impressive tech demo more so than an impressive game. And that is completely of its own merit. Absolutely abysmal to play through. And they completely marketed this like a dead space game. Only showed how creepy everything is and nothing about the gameplay. Because they know it was terrible.

My opinion when it comes to combat in Callisto Protocol is not that low. I personally like that there are variations. First you can pass some parts without fighting, the second option is silent elimination of the opponent, the third option is melee combat and the fourth option is run and gun. Apart from the problem with frame stuttering on the first day, which was already 90 percent resolved the next day, CP is above average. It's true, it could have been better, but if it's a bad game, it's certainly not, and I sincerely hope that we'll have the opportunity to play the second part and that the story continues because the game has potential.

Dead Space will make you realise how shit CP is, especially considering that they are the same price. Dead Space has so much more replay value as well.
You mention it here and I think it bears bringing up again: the peeling system is genuinely a game-changer, and something that easily makes this the best that Dead Space's combat has ever been. It's almost like an evolution of Doom Eternal's similar visual damage indicators, but rather than simply giving you an estimate of enemy health and where you've dealt the most damage, it now is providing specific tactical information on how best to slow or defeat that enemy. It also gives added function to weapons that previously never felt especially suited to the series' focus on dismemberment, as weapons like the flamethrower and force gun are arguably best used as a way to melt away those first couple of layers before you follow up with a slicing weapon. I underestimated how great of an addition the peeling system would be and am going to really miss it when I inevitably replay Dead Space 2 soon.
I'm glad you mentioned Doom Eternal. Last year, when the Dead Space remake was revealed and they talked about the peeling system, all I could think about was the 'destructible demons' of Doom Eternal. It's such an awesome little visual detail in both games!
Can we keep some perspective please? Without Glen and visceral there would be no remake. Callisto may have been a misstep but give the man some respect.
If you think about it, TCP has a lot of Glen's vision about DS' future before they booted him. Some even say TCP looks and feels like Glen's version of DS3.

I’m playing through The Callisto Protocol. It’s a decent game that succeeds at what it wants to do, which is science fiction horror. I would call it a narrative experience, though, because it feels like a movie with how photorealistic it appears. It’s fun, but in different aspects compared to Resident Evil 4 Remake. I’m not sure how far I am into the game, but I’ve enjoyed my time with it so far. It’s not near perfect compared to RE4R, but it’s still good.
To be sincere, I was rooting really hard for Glen & Callisto Protocol, especially after EA terminated both all those years ago. But then Callisto releases and its mired with so many issues and controversy (selling death animations), also the game just not very good either. To go back to the beast that killed Dead Space to begin with, EA & Motive knocked it out of the park with the Dead Space Remake and successfully resurrected a beloved survival horror title.

You left out the most important aspect of both titles:
Dead Space Remake released as a FINISHED product. New Game+ mode included at launch; the ending of the game comes with the base game, no DLC purchase required; all death animations come with the base game, no DLC purchase required; and the performance and optimization is actually really good. In every possible aspect, Dead Space Remake is a FULL and COMPLETE product. Meanwhile, Callisto Protocol devs rushed the game out the door in an obviously incomplete state, just so they could have their game out before the Dead Space Remake. Instead of taking their time with the game, they were more concerned with "We gotta beat Dead Space Remake to the punch!" And as a result: there was no New Game+ mode available at launch - that was included in a later patch; not all death animations are included in the base game - you need to buy DLC/season pass; the actual ending to the game is locked behind future DLC, so you have to hand out some more money if you want to see how the story ends. And of course, the performance and optimization.... Again, the devs and publisher were more concerned with getting the game out to the public as fast as possible. As a result, the game shipped in a completely unoptimized state. Callisto Protocol was already a pretty subpar game even on its own merits. And it becomes downright *PATHETIC* when compared to the Dead Space Remake.
The Callisto Protocol is the most underrated game that received so much hate, that quite frankly was unfair in my opinion. A lot of people expected that game to BE Dead Space given that it was a spiritual successor, but to me that's not the definition of what a spiritual successor is. Yeah okay it doesn't have the same fear/scare factor as Dead Space, but who cares. It's still a fun game. A lot of people I see in the comments section saying to people that like both games, that they have to choose one. Why is that? Why should someone have to choose one over the other. If they liked both games, then who are you to tell them otherwise? I myself have never played a Dead Space game before, so when I get my PS5 finally, this game will be the first I will be getting.
Let's not give EA too much credit for actually letting their passionate and talented devs do their jobs for once.

I had no expectations for Dead Space. I wasn't even sure if I was going to get it. I'm glad I did. Got to chapter 11 today and plan on going right back in for NG+ and will even attempt impossible mode and plasma cutter only run. I have also played Callisto but haven't beat yet and even deleted it. IDK if I will go back to it.

I really want the physical copy of this game itself that is why I ordered the physical disc separately.

I think the story in Calisto Protocol was pretty close to terrible. It was pretty bare bones and the villain was cliche as all hell. What were their motives again? I got to the end, died three times fighting the final boss, then got bored and never picked it up again. And even though that was just last week, I don't even remember what the villains wanted. That game's narrative was absurdly weak.

The Callisto Protocol may have its strengths and weaknesses, but it's also Considered as a very good spiritual successor to Dead Space. While I thoroughly enjoyed playing Dead Space Remake, I also thoroughly enjoyed playing The Callisto Protocol. Both of these games deserve a special recognition. The Callisto Protocol may have a rocky launch, but with the Recent Updates, Patches and Fixes to the gameplay, I am happy to say that The Callisto Protocol is a Fantastic game to play for Survival horror fans and fans of Resident Evil and Dead Space.
Considered by who? You? It's all subjective of course but the overwhelming consensus was that Callisto protocol was a huge disappointment. The original Dead Space was so much better and it sounds like the remakes improves on it. I hope a Callisto sequel improves on the first game but as it stands Callisto is NOT a worthy successor

Callisto Protocol launched with many bugs & performance issues, zero NG+ mode, short campaign with cliffhanger ending, low environment & enemy variety, gameplay feels forced.
Dead Space Remake launches with almost no bugs, has a NG+ mode, a considerably longer campaign, more enemy variety, & gameplay is not forced nor repetitive.
I wanted to like Callisto Protocol, and parts I do like, but the Devs made so many mistakes that I can't help but wonder, WTF were they thinking? Striking Distance Studios would have been better off delaying Callisto Protocol to fix many of its issues & let the Dead Space Remake come out & wet gamer's appetite for sci-fi horror, and then release Callisto protocol. This is what they should have done. As it is, Callisto feels rushed & it hurt them badly.
All these points are relatively fair, but the obvious has to be stated: DSR merely had to expand on an entire framework that had been designed and refined over 3 games. TCP had to stay in the ballpark and simultaneously force differentiation from the same person that proginated Dead Space. Overall DSR is better in many ways, but it's had its own share of fumbles without Schofield at the helm.
Dead Space Remake's devs were low profile, down to earth and quite open throughout the development of this game. Their devotion and passion are evident and the end product speaks volumes about their worth.
Callisto on the other hand was overhyped, exhaustively promoted and the devs were overconfident to the point of numbing themselves to what made their original creation great!
My hope is that we'll eventually have remakes for the rest of the franchise before a fourth installment is announced and a sequel to Callisto which will actually be great this time around.
The Callisto Protocol failed by virtue of trying several new things no one had really done in the genre previously (because day one tech issues, which Dead Space 2023 also has, have been fixed). With the proper iteration and dev team, the concepts in Callisto could make for a truly groundbreaking survival horror experience. Dead Space is a SLIGHTLY iterative take on what is essentially a perfect game in every aspect of its design. Which one did you think was going to get the praise. I acknowledge Callisto's MANY shortcomings, but Striking Distance at least tried something fresh and innovative in the AAA landscape. Motive stood on the shoulders of absolute fucking giants. They even used some original source code, and many original models. They went in and added extra brushstrokes to an already finished painting. And not even everything they added makes for a better experience. I'm fine with the comparison, and yeah in a vacuum, Dead Space (2023) beats The Callisto Protocol, but that is ONLY because Dead Space (2008) beats The Callisto Protocol as well.
Maybe CP should've play tested their new mechanics early in development so they could've realised how shit it was. Can't believe I lost 90 bucks on that POS. Dead Space Remake is one of the greatest remakes of all time.

But if you're going to compare you need to be honest about what each of the things you're comparing actually are. And that is just talking about design philosophy, not the genuine merits of the game. Most of the good can be attributed to the original, while some of the actual changes are problematic. And I'm not talking about Nicole's face, or all inclusive bathrooms, I'm talking about the actual game design, and the motivation of the publisher and developer.

The best added feature to the new DeadSpace or remake is the fact that they allowed Isaac to have a verbal part this time as the main protagonist, in the original, Isaac didn't speak at all.

I enjoyed my time with the Callisto protocol. It's not perfect but having never played Dead Space waiting for the remake, I had no comparison stigma. I also have to say that graphics look better on TCP. This is only an opinion of course. Everything else I'll find out when I finish DS. Enjoy your gaming folks

If you never played the original DS, you should be in for a treat.
If possible I would suggest playing all three DS main titles. DS3 isn't horrible, it just different. But that's not necessarily bad.
But enjoy the DS Remake. You'll enjoy it. Especially if you liked TCP.

The internet makes me feel like I’m one of the only people who genuinely enjoyed Callisto Protocol. I thought it was awesome. I’m playing through dead space remake now and honestly it’s just making me want to play through Callisto again now that new game plus has been added.
While I agreed that the Callisto protocol was very linear ( while that’s fine I expect my survival horror games to be linear, it’s part of the formula). Dead Spaces side content was indeed much better.
Combat wise I personally found the Callisto protocols combat to be satisfying. Yes it was heavily melee based which I think worked not only on a story base, being a prisoner in a well a prison. Seems only right you start out with blunt objects to defend yourself. But once you get to the half way point in the game you really don’t have to melee anymore unless you want to. ( I chose to personally because I think that game has one of the best melee combat systems in any game that offers them). It’s like the Last Of Us melee combat cranked up to 11. But I had plenty of guns and ammo to shoot my way through my encounters.
As far as horror the original Dead Space scared me, I think it tried playing it when I was like 13 and didn’t revisit that game until I was like 16 after playing and beating Dead Space 2 my favorite out of the franchise. So I can agree Dead Space and the remake the horror hits harder. Put the Callisto Protocol had plenty of moments it keep me on my toes. The sewers, habitat terrain, and maximum security ward where very good sections. Plus the sounds, not knowing when a biophage was going to pop out, timing my doges right, or trying not to get emplaned on spikes keep me in my toes.
I think when all said I’m done if The Callisto Protocol was compared to Dead Space 2 more then 1 people would be giving it the credit it deserves. It’s obvious Glen and his team liked what Dead Space 2 brought to the table. Because I can’t help but see the similarities between the two. Maybe that’s why I enjoy Callisto protocol so much. It blended horror, action, and big set pieces beautiful like Dead Space 2.
Comparing TCP with DS is like asking a child to run a race against an accomplished athlete.
Callisto Protocol is weird blurry mess.. Dead Space remake is just crispy, sharp and dark in graphics. People give so much shit to Frostbite Engine despite it being far superior game engine to Unreal. No matter how hard it is to work with, talented devs can make great use of it’s powers.

I feel sorry in a way for Glen Schofield, because I think if Calisto Protocol could have been delayed a few months that extra dev and polish time could have made it a MUCH better game. That's not to say this is a bad game but it doesn't feel like a Triple A title, perhaps more like a graphically polished Double A or even 2.5 A (like Hellblade) title. I think the combat would work considerably better if dodging were tied to a button instead of the left stick as currently movement when trying to establish crowd control is kinda sucky. I like the melee combat though. I kinda feel like the influence that re4 had on Dead Space's combat dev, games like TLOU 2 and God of War had on Calisto's. In terms of the level design, everything looks great but it's function is lacking, like in a good Double A game. Things look pretty but you can't interact with them at all so they somewhat feel like elements of the press rendered backgrounds of old school survival horror games. Exploration wise I don't look at the game's linear design as problematic. Gears 5 and FF7R both have very linear level design too but both have GREAT moment to moment gameplay AND movement so it doesn't feel like a chore to navigate. Which brings about my last, current criticism of the game. Why is this guy sooooooo slow? I get wanting to build tension but his default movement speed when not in combat is just painfully plodding. What really sucks though is that all of these issues could be remedied in a sequel but with this Dead Space Remake getting such critical acclaim and probably having great sales to match, EA would be foolish not to continue the franchise either via more remakes or an actual Dead Space 4. With Dead Space alive and operating at this quality level out the gate, I can't imagine the Calisto Protocol's publisher/ip holder wanting to go up against EA again and taking that L.

I have both games and enjoy both games. Of course Dead Space is the better game but I feel this is punching down considering the background of both games. One is the first game from a brand new AA studio. The other is a remake of an already almost perfect game. They basically just put extra sprinkles and chocolate on an already great dessert. Yes they could have screwed it up but really as long as they didn't let money make too many decisions and improved the graphics most would have given it a pass. Making the Ishimura one open map is kinda obvious of a decision. Don't get me wrong they did a great job and the things they added make the game even better. But I feel this way of thinking about TCP is why it's getting more hate than I feel it deserves. It's a good first try that can be made better in a sequel or dlc.

Callisto Protocol was developed by most people from Call of Duty and with only the creative director in charged. EA Motive is formed by many people from the original studio of Dead Space, Ubisoft Montreal and BioWare.

Personally, I don’t care what anybody has to say about Callisto Protocol. I had a absolute blast playing it and look forward to playing again on harder difficulty. Sure it’s not a perfect game but for people to act like it was so horrible is just blatant lies.

It was a horrible game to play on PS4 day one, thankfully it is much better now and I'm looking forward to playing further content, I've recently completed on new game+ and still had plenty of fun!

You can actually finish 99% of the game using firearms and all others ways of combat.
This review comparison is however important. IT proof beyond doubts that you can't trust ,not even a little , in major review gaming bullshit sites. Because they are all full of shit. Whenever i want to know if a game is good or not , i use Independent reviews on STEAM ,are much more objective and not propaganda like here.

The only thing I like better about the original is the enemies followed their own momentum when attacking. In the remake enemies are on a rotating swivel so they can easily crank a 90and hit you in stasis. 10/10
Callisto only kept me going for the story. But dead space had the full ride & its nostalgia was too OP. I hope they remake DS2 & 3 & I hope calisto gets a sequel even though it was underwhelming
Callisto is the better looking game here. I find Deadspace Remake is kind of fuzzy with Character and environments. It still looks good but Callisto had a more crisp image.

Gameplay is way better in callisto.. you can finish monsters in many ways. Impale them in walls with telekinetic hand, stealth attack from behind with a knife or use pure fire power , amazing Gus. a super shotgun or an assault rifle.. The guns in dead space are toys in comparison.
exploration--> he claims that the exploration in deadspace is "better". yet in Callisto you can travel the moon outside , you have have more detailed environments , while in deadspace is low res textured world. with repetitive monsters. he even went as far as to say that the GORE and Horror is better in deadspace.. what a joke review.
