You going for a talbot intro 😅
@lucionjay5376 Relax son Relax, plenty of room in the sandpit for everyone 🤠🤟
As long as he doesn't run over decent stuff with a range rover who cares

I'm just balancing out all the stuff you copy me on lol
@@TomleyRCthink the only thing I nicked an idea from you was the gravedigger I’ll give you that one!!
I love this format!
You’re onto something here. Even if not head-to-head, I like your detailing specific attributes of the cars:
-does it go in a straight line?
-how does it corner? Is it stable, does it do the right amount of sliding, or does it just topple-over?
-how controllable is it?
-durability
-most importantly, is it fun?
Would love to see reviews call-out these specific dimensions you note in the video.
(Notably, I picked up a 16889A-Pro and in a straight line, I find it tends to spontaneously start veering)
Great review thanks Phil. Im super happy with the MJX i bought based on your earlier review, my Aliexpress vendor supplied with it with 3S and Dumbo transmitter/gyro receiver upgrade which made it that bit extra special. Glad to see it come out tops!
Two of my favorite cheap brands. MJX has the better quality and better engineering in opinion. HBX has a special place for me though. The 18th scale truggy got my kids and myself out having fun together. Thanks Phil 🎉
The 3100A is a blast! Love that little thing
HBX was my first RC and its what got me into RC cars.
Even though these are about as far away as possible as what RCs Im into, I love this video format Phil and would watch any RCs related footage in this format. As you said, very peak time Top Gear
Hi Phil, great video and lots of fun to watch. I think the mjx 16208 1/16 is one of the best mini bashers you can get. It's a little beast on 3s and fun on 2s. Funny enough I've got my self a plastic skateboard ramp. And it was so much fun. My mate drove it, now he wants one. 😊
Hard to figure out. I own both. Both are very good small RC trucks. Nice video phil 💪🏼
I really like that you added comments on the handling.. there's so many videos on youtube about those 2 cars where they get bashed but very few of them mention anything about how they drive. I got ravage after owning couple 144001's and I was kinda shocked how difficult it is to drive. Especially on ice full throttle is not possible without spinning, og A979-B was much like that.
The MJX has a terrible throttle delay that makes it VERY hard to drive when combined with all the power it has. Some of it is the radio, some of it is the esc. No reviewers ever seem to mention it, but its all over the forums.
I've found that only happens with the stock battey
@@ZacStack really? I've not tried any 3rd party options because I don't have anything that will fit. What do you use?
Is it a throttle delay or a dead zone in the trigger, for me its a dead zone because throttle delay would be very soft pressing the trigger and eventually it will go, dead zone nothing will happen
@@TheAegisClaw I use zeee 2s 1500 mah 80c there great and fit well in the mjx
@@lyricofwise6894 no, it's not, you can adjust that out with the throttle trim, it's nothing that simple.
I feel your pain. Longtime ink and graphite smearing extraordinaire! Left handed people are in their right minds 😂
haha
Haha thats a god one
Ive got the mjx, literally ordered the hbx yesterday.... perfectly timed video.
I agree with this, the MJX is a quality bit of kit for the price. I have and MJX and the brushless FTX tracer, fitted with some oil shocks, so basically the same as the HBX. Both are great but the MJX wins for me. I do need to look at the steering on the MJX though as the steering/turning circle didn't feel too great when under power!😂
Hey I got question do you change the punch settings on your RCS I have a kraton 6s and I wanted to know should I change my punch settings to about 5 or 6
Love to see this test again, with something that is a benchmark 5 / 5 for fun.
Mjx absolutely stole it for £81 😮,spares galore on ebay uk ,what a machine and clip on body is fantastic bonus 🇬🇧🤠🤟
Only the blue/white/red one is clip on. The pinky-yellowy-black one is standard body pins. I got pink/purple/white clip on body for my daughter from the older brushed model, it's exactly the same.
Mrs ran our MJX 16209 into our MJX 14210, both on 3S at a tested 70kmh, and nothing happened to either (Except ripping out the body pins).
She's really gotta learn space on an oval! 😆
I have a team associated 14b, sc10 pro 4, maverick quantum rx, rovan 5b, and a couple of nitros, (I've also got some crawlers), but....
I've become an MJX convert just for the fun. They're amazingly tough.
This takes me back to when I had first bought my HPI mini recon. Was a neat little truck but man that thing was a handful to drive, was real good at doughnuts 😂 but fast forward to today and I have the little MJX buggy. My how things have changed
Hahaha 😄 you're a good and honestly man Phil ✊🏽 I like that you let the first failures in when you're trying to full speed on the ramp haha... That's so funny and also just how you are. That's a compliment man. Thank you again for all you doing for us 👍🏾 sorry for my language 💁🏻♂️ I'm from the Netherlands.
Great comparison, love this format
YESSS FINALLY VIDEO WITH hypergo 16208
Haven’t fully watched it yet, but I wanted to say that a week ago, I have finally received my mjx 16208🥳 and maan, ITS AN ABSOLUTE BEAST 🎉
thx for the video, Phil😄
There's a few videos of the 16208 both by tomley and hardcore RC and it's their fault I got one 😂
@@brontecountryrc yess the same lol
I got my MJX because of tomley😄
@@Maxinator_RC yep it's those darn honest reviews that get you 🤣 then the hardcore RC guys who beat the snot out of them that seal the deal 🤣
@@brontecountryrc yeah, and Kevin Talbot is exactly the same thing 😀
Please, what onboard camera did you use in the jump?
Iam using a steel spur gear for my q901 goes now 60kmh on 2s from the 42mph cars from them absolute insane quality compare to the q901 iron spur gear thath last only 5 days this spur gear from mjx is awesome
It amazes me the kind of beating these little trucks can take. Great shootout vid!
Yeah, they take some crazy hits!
Me and my 6yr old son love having some boys time watching your videos together. Never disappointed. All the way over here in perth aus. Send us a setup for me and my son of anything you dont want or need anymore Lol. Don't ask you don't get. Keep it up mate always hanging for the next review and video. Absolutely love it.
That cleaning montage was properly mind-bending.
lol
I have all 3 of these and can't wait to do a similar showdown. Nicely done!
Being s lefty what remote or car set can I get for my 3 year old he's a lefty and I thought I've seen universal remotes somewhere on Ali or banggood. But not sure where or what's best for left or both please lmk for my little son
MJX still reigns supreme as small-scale king!!
I was hoping you would make a video like this! Thanks Tomley!
Welcome dude
Hi where did you get this jump/ramp?
Hi loving yr channel just started rc and I got the mjx hypo(the one with GPS)it comes with a 7.4 battery, thing is I want a bit more run time it’s 2c,question is could I get a LiPo s3 5000 7.4 battery and would it run okay for my first upgrade
Fantastic bashing and comparison, Phil! Well done!!! 😃
But I'm still going to get the Scy 16103 Gantry Pro... It comes with spring shocks, but it's much cheaper and I already have the oil shocks for it (I bought the wrong size for my Scy 16302). 😁
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
The video editing was much more fun than usual 😊
Just getting into RC, and have learned so much from this (and all his other videos)
Glad they have been helpful Colin
I'm curious - have you ever had T:s eRevo 1/16th cars? Would be cool to compare those cheaper to those. For they were quite valued few years ago for kiddos. (We have 2 of them) and wouldn't mind upgradeing them with better motor etc. They've lasted a huge beating with kids and been worth it as an intro for the hobby.
What do you guys think the best cheap crawler is right now? Something from ali/bangood or maybe name brand stuff? All help would be appreciated looking for my first crawler. Maybe on the bigger scale 1/10 possibly.
This was a very good idea. I think it takes you back to the roots of your channel. I enjoyed the comparisons. Like you, I was surprised when the HBX broke. When I saw you chose the Grom as your spare, a thought crossed my mind. I wonder why he didn't choose the car he once called "the Worlds Best RC Car" a few years ago. But, it's older and it's 1/18th. Keep up the good work.
Hello . I looked for a video comparing 16889 and 16103, but I couldn't find it. At less than $100, the 1/16 model, 16889 and 16103 look good, but it's my first time, so I can't tell which one is good or bad. What would be good to compare with the specs alone? Thank you. 감사합니다.
About spit out my drink! Also a lefty you wrote backflip, then as you went to write the next, I wondered how long you had to wait to film the next one and then it happened😂
16889 aka ftx tracer. I can have replacement parts next day delivery from modelsport , not sure 🤔 if there’s mjx parts in the uk?
Good vid as normal, but not quite convinced on this one Phil. Think only grouping tonnes of stuff into a single score of 'fun' was a bit harsh really, as there are a lot of way the HBX is better day to day and on different surfaces etc.
Get the metal diffs for the arrma grom when you can. I did a pre order a while back and once they hit the market a couple weeks ago I snagged 3 sets lol. Got 2 of the 3 so far. Horizon here is messing up bad on shipping lately.
I keep hearing about electronics issues with Spektrum lately. Maybe the cause of the signal loss? They have been pretty solid for a long time though.
We've run HBX 16th scale RCs for a couple years now and have found they wear out a little too quickly. 2 of them eat gears and the mesh just cant be fixed. Seems like that nice flexible chassis and components just don't hold their shape well enough over time to maintain tolerances. I ended up buying new ones and stripping the old ones for spares. Pretty let down by them.
A lot of love on Reddit at the moment for you Phil and rightly so, great content and a chill channel!
Yes, I was on there the other day, it was nice to see some support :)
Yeeeees MJX. Love mine. What suspension tuning would you recommend to make it more planted on landing?
I'd have to have a proper look, but maybe a little thicker oil and softer springs
@@TomleyRC Interesting. I found I had to put half preload on the rear to stop it bottoming out under acceleration as it was very soft. Perhaps thicker oil will do it...
I bought an HBX because of your review. I absolutely love the little HBX!!!
Great work Phil. I'll be honest, I would have hit the fence posts with at least one of the trucks. Unintentionally.
Have you tried the HBX 903 1/12 wheels/tyres on the Ravage? seems to make it even more indestructible and quite fun!
If you lower the body posts on the HBX, it makes them less susceptible to breakage. I think you can go down 2 or 3 holes in the front and rear
A diehard Bugs Flyer & MJX Electronics quality is top notch . For them to get into the bigger scales would be a shoe in & let's hope so . We're swamped with Lil tiny offerings . .02 cents ....
Awesome shoot out. Really loving my Arrma Grom. I had to get one after your video and the Grom attacks 😂. I'll definitely be grabbing the winner of this challenge eventually
HBX came with front lights which are essential for me at least. Knowing when the car is pointed back to me. If i want to upgrade HBX with the battery, which way is to do it? Should i get more C-rating, more mAh, both or maybe more voltage too? Original is very small capacity so more mAh is a must but what about the other values? I do not want to test 3s, some ones can handle it but not going to risk it.
The MJX has lights at the front too. A lightbar to be specific and its brighter than the HBX imo. As for your battery question, more mah will give longer runtime. A fully charged 2S is 8.4 volts so if you want more voltage you need to go to 3S. C rating signifies the maximum continuous output that the battery can maintain. The C value multiplied by the capacity is the maximum continuous current output which is measured in Amps. For example 1000mah x 30c = 30,000 amps. A lot manufacturers exaggerate the C rating they slap on the side of their lipos though, but generally the higher C the better.
The way the video starts with you just launching a mini truck was hilarious😂
oh damn the left handed struggle is recognized.
More hyper go!!!:)
Fast !
I have the One you show there MjX 16208 it’s a blast spares are easy to get hold of capable of 3s quick enough for a beginner and a tough little truck
Agree :)
@@TomleyRC it’s certainly one I recommend having come back to RC after 40 years I am loving it can’t decide what I want next
Tomley, I agree with the suspension weak. I would love to see a video on this truggy on beefing it up and tuning.
The Xinlehong aka Hosim cars should be here represented, i own a dual brushed 4x4 version for some 3 years now the 60amp esc can handle 12volt lipo 😂 even upside down in the water, chased by packs of dogs and survided a couple of dog walking karens...it has earned its place as a legend in my heart at least 😂
Loved the review. I currently have 4 HBX between me and my kids and they have a special place in my heart lol. I'll have to try an MJX... just not sure I can convince the wife it's for educational purposes lol LOL
How slow can you make the hbx at max settings on the remote please?
Yes! There goes the trumbo pointer combo!
It would be great if you guys would do a “freaky Friday” on each others channels. Just have a hard time picturing Phil as Kev chanting; 🎶“ It’s Christmas Every Day!”🎵😂 and Kevin As Phil with out all his pals !😝 That would be freaky all right!
Awesome video, thank you!
Bit of good fun here. Few more of these mini-bash vids & I just might use your link to pick one up for myself. Cheers
Cheer dude
Rightfull winner with the MJX, great little trucks & deserved the win.
The hbx and mjx "geary" sound is the rear diff pinion coming loose on the shaft , tighten it before it eats the gears
See my other comment for the fixes
Going by the intro to your vid Phil, the coconuts at the fair ground are pretty safe 😂
Yes, 100%!
Lol the backup car..... I loved the original trio TG UK and TGT. I'm surprised you didn't put the redcat volcano in there, very similar RC and reasonably priced too.
haha, yeah.. best bit of the shows were the road trips
@@TomleyRC YES! It is a staple pass time to watch their shenanigans in our house lol
Is there much difference between brushed and brushless motors today ?
Yes
@@boduke9428 Are you saying "yes" to the old brushed motors of old or are you saying "yes" to todays much better made brushed of today, made with better materials, your answer just seems to be fallowing the heard !!
@@karlc9773 I'm saying yes to both. Unless you're asking about motors for a crawler. For this or any speedy type or basher then brushless is far superior. Longer battery life and much better performance. The MJX here for example can handle 3s batteries. With that it would gain 1/3 more power and speed. Don't let the top speeds here between the Grom and other 2 confuse. The difference in acceleration is much pronounced. Check out videos of the Arrma Gorgon on here. It's a great example. I just swapped mine to brushless recently and it's night and day difference using the same 2s batteries. Not to mention it's insane on 3s now. The reason it's so popular is because they are that much better.
Nice job Phil. I would have liked to see the H14BM in this shootout. To see how it stacked up .
Would have been better probably... certainly faster. Although a fair bit more money
@@TomleyRC taking this comment as a base. I found it very interesting the idea of adding the Arrma as some sort of shadow reference.
Also you managed to do the video in certain amount of time that fits "my activites" during lunch time hehe.
Yes Ive been waiting for the new video
Great video, I will add these to my wishlist :)
The only thing I've broke on my ravage was the upper swing arm, and I stripped the pinion. Otherwise it's a fun little truck
We love it, when it's tight! ;)
Love my GROM first RC car and honestly I think it’s a great start point
I love your cheap r/c shootouts, but maybe every once in a while can we get a premium R/C shootout. Where value isn’t the objective. Also I love the new events. Long jump is going to be bonkers with some high speed bashers.
So you mean like the last shoot out with a Traxxas, Arrma & HPI? Or the one before that with a Kyosho, Traxxas, HPI, FTX & Associated lol. Or do you mean bigger faster stuff? I have some planned ;)
@@TomleyRCHPI FTW! I currently run an HPI vorza s 6s and I love it, although I'm running 4s under recommendations from the local hobby shop owner (my first high speed runner). I started off with the volcano 18 and that was a blast to run.
@@TomleyRC maybe some buggies/truggys like, Tekno RC ET48 2.0, Team Associated RC8B4e, Team Losi Racing 8IGHT-X/E 2.0 etc.
I also liked the new "long jump feature" plus the "good landing" 😁 bonus
@@The94gtmoose What's the point of reviewing a kit you can put any electricals in?
nice video showing the toughest mini bashers
I'm only 2 minutes into this video and I love it already 😁👌🏻👍🏻💥
Nice video!!! Maybe the arrma could be compared with the new fmt24!
Got 3 of the MJX, 2 for both kids and one for me. We still have a lot of fun at our skatepark, pretty durable Mini-Bashers 🤟
Nice!
I was just writing in the other channel a comment how those two the MJX and hbx pro are the best little cars.
fast, durable, fun for little money. oil shocks, metal gear, brushless and fast some even run 3S. Those cars are great value for Money and win the 1/16 -1/14 and 1/18 scale. for 1/10 scale the major brands are better of course but cost 3-4 times.
it is amazing how the 1/16 scale of MJX can run speed and flips like the big brand cars for only a fraction of the cost so if you dont mind the size or have a low budget you can still get a lot of the experience other than size and durability.
Good review.
MJX is just great love mine but hardly run it ......left handed tip from another leftie, start at right hand end of board then you dont smudge
I mean I've been left handed for 44yrs... if I've not worked it out by now, I've got no chance haha
should added your remo1631 in that mix 😂 the thing is 2x faster than than hbx and just a tad faster than mjx on 3s .....i found the hbx is more twitchy at high speed than the mjx but i did put mjx wheels on th bhx and it was alot better
Would be interested in battery life for these two. Both have small batteries but reviews on 16208 claim 7 mins which is useless vs 15 to 20 mins on HBX. Reviews also talk about ESC causing throttle lag. Finally ive got young kids (7 and 3) so HBX can turn down to about a thrid of the power rather than 70% on the 16208 made the HBX my choice. Sad to see it lose so comprehensively here 😢😂
I’m new to sport… I was curious if you could do a 1/18 Rlaarlo brushless conversion? I really like the 1/18 scale. Not sure how to match the electronics. Btw love the channel keep up the good work!
I actually have a hpx and its the best i droped it about 24 foot and i think i broke the plastic 😎💪💪 so so good and i love your videos tommy
While it wouldn't have affected the result, IMO comparison board is flawed when most categories are out of 5 points, but the price isn't. price should be out of 5 as well with some sort of mathematical calculation. As it is, the price has much higher weighting in overall result.
Is the hbx the same as an FTX tracer? I got a Tracer and i see there similar price, they look the same underneath as well, only difference is my tracer is a truggy not a truck
Hi, how are you tracking the speed of these? Is it a gps tracker with an app? Thanjs
I love those score board videos
So much easier than trying to do it digitally!
@@TomleyRC Nice categories! Maybe get a whiteboard, for dry-erase markers, and you can draw the lines with a sharpie, so it stays. Nah, the blackboard contrast is easier for the camera... never mind
There'a guy here on the u-tubes who is stealing your pointy finger routine. No sliding trombone, but still. Time to fly over to the US bust some knee caps
The only downside I’ve found on my son’s Hypergo is the screws for the suspension keep coming loose. Need to be checked regularly.
So these are that tough are they Now I’ll be looking for them both. I just purchased the fmc k/10 and heard it was It was tough for the money
I can vouch for the hyper-go, it has survived my wolfdog shaking the living daylights out of it. Other than replacing four crushed wheels its all good 👍
Good stuff 👍
For Watch you dont make vidéo of the wpl c74 ?
Please Tom make a comparison video between arrma infraction vs ftx superforza vs kyosho inferno gt2 flux
Can HBX be slowed down more than MJX? Remote slowdown is dial vs a switch. My son is really young and i have no idea how slow can you make these. Every review talks about how fast are they, but i would really love to know how slow cam they be :)
Hi, I have a 3 Yr old and have the same dilemma. Looking at the MJX the switch is down to 70% only, else full power. Means its too fast for any indoor action. HBX however is a dial that, talking to guys on the HBX Facebook forum, gets the car down to 7 or 8 mph, ie 33%. This was enough to swing it for me, plus Beyond RC really rate the better quality of HBX. However I am a bit sceptical now having seen this vid, never seen the HBX lose a wheel before! 😮
@@k88kee youtube is cenzoring any attempt of me pointing you to our reddit discussion about this exact topic :)
Which one can be slower (via transmitter)? HBX 16889A Pro or MJX 16208 16209 HYPER GO 16208
The above is the name of the thread on there. Also i have ordered 16889a Pro few days ago. My son is even younger, so perhaps its more for me than him :) Maybe i will end up purchasing something more toy-like for him. But i have 2nd son on the way, so im sure it will get plenty of usage sooner or later.
@RomanScepka struggling to find the reddit thread, but found another similar. Anyhow my plan is to be cheap and not change the transmitter (yet, unless the lag is terrible, or maybe that's the esc) but I'll tape something behind the trigger to stop it being pulled back all the way! Haha
the upgraded diffs are STILL on backorder since november.
So you think the HBX should be cheaper (VFM score)? Maybe an idea, you could in the next comparison add how easy it's to work on.
You get more for your money with the MJX
@@TomleyRC Yes but the MJX is more expensive. So to get the same value for money the HBX should be cheaper.
