  • Ran into this issue the other day and I believe it's not a design flaw just something that happens if you put in too big a battery or keep flying back to back.
    Get this amazing plane here: www.horizonhob...

    Be careful to equip this plane with a battery that allows for airflow to the ESC. Also a good practice is to always allow any esc time to cool down between flights!

    Your very lucky that the ESC didn't melt thru your foam. The ESC warning for thermal protection according to the manual for the Avian 60A ESC is 110 Celsius or 230 Fahrenheit . This means that ESC was hotter than that and the protection inside the ESC reduced power to your motor to 60% until the ESC reaches acceptable temperature or under 230F. This is if the ESC is doing what its designed to do. I like to monitor my ESC and Battery Temp while flying if the day is hot or I am doing aerobatics and I back off the throttle at 190f. You mention you rested the plane by flying a different plane which is excellent. I go one step further by leaving the battery bay open with battery removed, to maximize cooling and in the shade if possible. Great Video and glad you shared it. 🤠🗽⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍✔God Bless🙏

    Good word. My friend and I will fly together at the end of the day when everyone else is gone home and practice touch and goes. We fly 3-4 batteries in a row. I’m using a 2600 mAh that gives plenty of room, and always check temps. In this hot Florida weather, an overheat is easy to happen.

    That made me rethink a few installations in other planes as well. If that happened during the comparatively short power bursts of line of sight flight ... My last flight was 24 minutes at high throttle settings, FPVing more or less sideways around the map in unexpected high winds aloft. And I didn't even worry about my ESC until now. Thanks for the wakeup call. You probably saved me a rather long hike of shame there.

    • @FatGuyFliesRC
      @FatGuyFliesRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as its getting cooled during flight you should be ok, but in this instance the battery I used back to back did not allow air around to the ESC so I almost cooked it. Now had I waited and flew another plane and then came back with another big battery I would have been ok.

    • @Videolinquency
      @Videolinquency 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FatGuyFliesRC True, the stationary minutes right after a flight could be more of a heat dissipation challenge than a prolonged flight would be. Still, I have made a few more vent holes after you posted that video, and fed the FC and radio gear of my next long ranger through a separate BEC in case one of the ESCs decides to burn out on me.

    The motor on the UMX Turbo Timber likes to overheat on a hot summer day. Make sure to remove the motor sticker for better cooling, and give it a minute or so between flights.
    And in general, check the temperature of electronics if you plan to fly multiple batteries in a row.

      No I flew back to back with 4s 4000s that completely cover to whole battery bay with no air flow to battery. Eflite admitted there is a design flaw with overheating and put out the fix AFTER my fix/mod. Bottom line do there fix of moving the esc forward and securing with 2 sided tape and don't fly this plane back to back. Take 5 min cool down between flights. Other than that fly her as hard as you like, she can take it.

    Hey there Just the video I was looking for Im having the same issues with my new TT Evo. This is my 2nd weekend flying and when I flew it the first time last weekend I had a high temp warning on my ESC of 210 degrees. It was so hot that the glue melted on the battery tray. Im 4000 smart batteries. This weekend same this got a high temp warning within 2 minutes of flight og 180 degrees. I ended up cutting a small 2 inch square hole on the bottom side of the cowling but still getting a high temp warning of 180. A design flaw maybe? or a bad ESC.... I curious how many other TT Evo pilots are having the same issue.

    • @FatGuyFliesRC

      Well one thing never fly a electric rc plane back to back. If its the only plane with then wait 5 minutes between flights. Eflite admitted there was an issue and suggested moving the ESC forward to get better airflow. Of course this was after my mod and me notifying them of the flaw. Not saying I pulled the trigger on the smoking gun but their fix came out 2 weeks after my mod went live. Also switch to the 32004s more room abound the battery for the ESC and you still get good flight times.
