    It's crazy that I've had this airplane for about a year and never had the overheating or thermal shutdown issues others have mentioned or been plagued with, even on the most hot and humid days here in East Tennessee. I did notice that excessive heat was generated by the esc and motor after a flight, so I removed some small bits of the cowl around the sninner to improve airflow to both components, and while they still get pretty warm I've never had a problem.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Consider yourself fortunate. This one actually wrecked out of a hover (no damage except to a spring) because it hit thermal protection before we changed out to a less-intensive prop system and moved the ESC forward.

    That Ail-> Ail mix is interesting. I was trying Flaperons on my Trojan T-28 1100mm and the travel of the ailerons in flap position wasn´t high enough. At least in the one that has still SAFE. Maybe I could try that...

    Thank you for your inspiration, I ended up using the provided B11DLS servos arms, however I noticed you were able to use the stock servo arms for your build. I measured both servos' gears and B11DLS were larger, so I figured I have to modify provided servo arms to attach control rod holder, drilling the holes a little bigger, which meant that I was changing the throw a bit. In addition, I have never crimped DuPont before but noticed on your recommended kit doesn't have little bevels on them. I have since ordered some different style from HH. All you have to do is unscrew the two wing plugs in the fuselage, unplug them from the receiver, and cut one of the leads going into the aileron plug right before where it plugs into the plastic lead. Use a DuPont connector kit (like the one in my description) and affix a new servo lead to the end of the cut wire, then connect that to channel 5 or 6 - depending on which channel your transmitter expects the aileron to be connected when you've set it up as a 2 Aileron 1 Flap wing type.
      Once this is done and the receiver is reprogrammed, you'll have stabilization on both ailerons.

    Do you like the turbo or the Night timber for aerobatics? I know you haven't flowen it much? Is the setup on the night Timber much of a hassle compared to the turbo? Just wondering by flipping their plan over to change your battery would be to much of a hassle.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've flown the Turbo Timber for two years, and the Night Timber X for nearly a year and a half. They both have things they excel at. The NTX is designed for high energy rolling and post-stall 3D maneuvers, the TT is designed for bush flying and aerobatics that can be post-stall but requires that you think ahead of the plane due to the much slower roll rate and lack of roll authority because the prop wash doesn't flow over the ailerons.
      I have a vid on the NTX setup you can check over - I wouldn't call it a hassle.

I don’t have this model, but I have the eflite Mule, I put a 4S battery pack in it out of the box, fly it, enjoy it and leave the field. No drama. • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      We can't post vids just for specifics like this, but we can say that if it's not working then you're probably not adjusting it correctly. It's a simple fix though. Adjust the flap travel to 150%. Set the flap system to pull the flaps up 100%. Place the servo arm on the servo such that it nestles the flap against its pocket in the wing without binding the servo. Set the flap system to deploy to 100% extension. It will deploy as far as ours do afterward.

    Hi Jon, just wondering if you could help describe why timing 5 on avian programming helps with the overheating problem. Mine overheats with every flight. Also, I noticed when I throttle up, it takes half a second for the thrust to really kick in. That annoying delay is plenty of time for the novice pilot to get in trouble when flying low and not expecting there to be a delay. Hoping you have some suggestions! Thanks again for the great vid.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Setting timing to 5 reduces the amount of thrust the engine can provide because it won't spin quite as fast as it does on 15 timing. This reduces the amount of amps the ESC has to kick out to the motor, which keeps it from getting as hot. In the vid I do believe I went over how to set it to instantly spin up - just set the Startup Time from Very Soft or Soft to Normal instead.

      It should be mentioned in the vid at some point in the hour's worth of footage, but you need to use a Spektrum programming cable and unlock the receiver, then reprogram it. It won't understand that your wing type uses two ailerons unless it's been unlocked and reprogrammed.

      Make sure both are set to the same throw and ensure that you've reset the receiver. If you have them set to 150% rates but the receiver wasn't reprogrammed, the servo will only travel 100% instead of 150%.

      @TwoBrosRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should all be documented in the vid - but if it's unclear, undo the screws on the fuselage plugs and suss out which plug goes to what servo lead. It should be very straightforward. Once you see which one is the aileron lead, cut ONE lead at the point where it splits off coming from the receiver. Use the crimping tool in the description to affix a new servo lead to the cut end after stripping the wires. Bear in mind that a crow setup on Spektrum transmitters (two ailerons, one flap) defaults to the right aileron being in channel 2 unless you want to mess about with redoing Channel Assign.

    Hello, I have a question. I can trim my timber to fly straight and level at a set speed but when I increase the speed it climbs and when I decrease the speed it drops. Is this normal? I have been told that this is a "normal" thing for a plane to do and I agree to some extent but I have flown planes before that"tracked" so much better. You have experimented with your CG location, what do you think? I was also wondering if the "thrust line" could be off a bit. I doubt the angle of incidence could be an issue. Thanks for your videos,

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is pretty normal for more airspeed to necessitate more downward trim or pressure. A more neutral CG will mask a lot of this tendency though since the horizontal stabilizer can be completely neutral or slightly down, so the faster it goes the less likely it is that it'll climb. You can also adjust the gyro to increase pitch gains which will automatically resolve this as well.

I find both your TimberX and Turbo Timber Evo videos extremely helpful. I’m trying to better understand how to choose the correct control surface (as in the case of mixes involving ailerons or flaps) for the mix set up. For example: in the case of snap flaps, how would I know to choose Left Flap or Right Flap when mixing with Elevator? I have separate servos on separate channels for each Flap segment. I’ve been searching the internet for a Spektrum mixing manual, something more in depth than what’s provided in their transmitter manuals. Is there a simple way to understand this, or is it a matter of experimenting? Thanks.

      The easiest way to do is to remove both flap servos, set the up and down travel to 150%, then position the servo arm so it will pull the flap snug against the pocket it deploys from. It'll take a few attempts to get it just right - you're looking for roughly a 120 degree angle on the arm. After it's positioned right, you can get the flap to extend and retract fully without binding - you'll get full barn door flaps at that point.

      The stock servos for the elevator and rudder are glued in. They're easy to pry out. You just reglue the new units in using FoamTac which will hold solid. The rest of the servos are simple drop-in replacements using screws and plastic housings. You'll have to cut the servo doors for the flaps and ailerons before you can gain access to them. • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to reprogram the receiver before you get 150% rates. Write down the AS3X settings and redo them. If you did all of this already, check the gain settings for AS3X and SAFE and ensure that they're fixed gain, not relative. If they're relative and you have no channel assigned, it will default to 0 gain.

      The wing servos are easy to remove. The fuselage servos just need to be gently pulled out. You can apply turpentine to the glue behind them which will soften them, or just pull the servo with a pair of pliers until it gives.

Read through the comments, or better yet, here's some pasted instructions we gave another fellow:
