Lena, just wanted to thank you. I’m going into my 19th year of carrying a pistol, and every year I just barely pass our annual qualifications course. I stumbled across your videos and binge watched them over and over again every day for about a week. Went to the range today and I was a totally different shooter. I landed every round I shot from the 25 in the center mass. I use to always throw them low left from that distance, even missing the target completely sometimes. I’ve worked with several Firearms Instructors throughout the years, and what they tried correcting me on never really clicked. The way you explain things just makes sense to me. It’s like a light bulb went off for me. You’re an excellent teacher. Thanks again.

Absolutely! It is taking things for granted that makes you unsafe on the range. Not all gun faux pas are dramatic, like sweeping the room while talking. Mine are usually from being tired or inattentive to detail and training because I am thinking too far ahead.

My great grandfather taught my grandfather who taught my father who taught me and now im teaching my kids. Its humbling being a teacher after learning. Times change and we adapt to them and im thankful that we're in a time where theres sooo much information available and for free for that matter from professional shooters and instructors.

Where was Lena 30 years ago when I was forming all my bad habits? Oh, that’s right - she wasn’t born yet! This is a great lesson for beginners and experienced shooters who are trying to overcome bad habits. The previous video where Lena & Jerry appeared together and spoke at length about presenting the gun, acquiring the sights, without staring at the target helped me a lot. I remember Jerry speaking on TV about speed shooting and bringing his gun up, then “cleaning up the sight picture”. I didn’t understand what he meant until he & Lena talked about not staring at the target first. There was a lightbulb moment...

my dominant eye got hammered a while back ( I was looking at a vehicle that got blown up ) and failed so I decided to go all in and switch hands. fortunately my right hand didn't pass its bad habits to my left. so you can switch hands and get a clean slate.

      @claud1961 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

I have been watching this channel for years and I think that pile has stayed the same. It is puzzling! If I had to guess, it is complimentary ammo that either isn't used due to odd calibers or just limited quantity or they just have a favorite personal brand. When you go to a match you better be using the gun and ammo of your sponsors! This stuff isn't cheap. On a regular basis, they fire up my ammo allowance for a month! No different than going to an auto shop and seeing all those belts and hoses hanging there year after year.

Long comment so please read all the way through... First, excellent video for the newbies!
I am a newbie and my wife and I are just getting into this for home defense. This style of drill is just what we needed before we go to the range and just start blasting rounds. It makes sense that the most important thing is to be familiar and comfortable with it first. I have been pushing these drills on my wife daily (sometimes with resistance) and it is working. But I found something today that might be good for a video for the newbie home defense people.
The power went out this evening and I had an idea... I got the pistol from its secure place, ensured it was clear and only had dummy rounds available, and handed it to my wife. I handed it to her and encouraged (insisted) that she take it and do the drills in the dark.
We spent this next hour picking it up and going through all the motions in complete darkness. Here is what I learned...
In the home defense scenario, it is likely that you keep the firearm (whatever it is) in your nightstand. The scenario is that you are awakened by the noise and reach for it in the dark. Simply going through these motions in the dark has made us much more comfortable with a pistol in the house I'm sure will make us more effective on the range as well.
Just my two cents. Great job with your videos and keep keeping it real for us normal folks. Thanks.

I must be missing something here, or my CZ Shadow is different? My mag release is on the left and I use my right thumb (I'm right handed) while left hand is reaching for new mag. I'm def no expert but that seems better than turning the gun or whatever. Is my release in an unusual spot? I've had a fair bit of experience with other guns but I can't remember if they were different.

@@kirkc9643 No, generally semi-auto handguns have the mag release situated on the left side, behind the trigger and in front of the grip, unless it is gun that has ambidextrous release or is specifically a left handed model/configuration.

Nope. Husbands should never teach their spouses how to shoot. Send them to the school of their choice, and if they are taught everything that you know, they will feel like they learned it on their own.
I've seen it so many times, where someone else that teaches/trains the same way as I do, and even uses the same words, can actually get them to listen. Same way for friends spouses, I can teach them the same thing as their husbands, but they listen to me. Don't try to understand, just live with it.

@@southerncharity7928 I've been training for over 25 years, and I've seen it 100's of times. It's not a trust issue, because they trust the husband to work, help with the kids, do everything else,... just not teach them anything. I've seen it in cooking, Sunday school, sports, DRIVING, and a broad spectrum of other things. You can be 'trusted', but still not be thought of as capable of teaching.
Happens both ways, but I've seen it in spades when it comes to firearms.

@@Shep01 Italy has pretty good gun laws but access to ranges is sometime iffy.
Gotta subscribe to it (120€ yearly, + inflation) then you pay each time you go(understandably so, renting the lane and pay for ammo and cleanup and target replacement) and then you pay for each course whenever there is one.
Also, the closest range from me is not very welcoming. Went there several time to shoot some 7.5 J pistol and honestly it felt like I was annoying them by just being there and asking for a lane.
Overall, pricing is understandable, but forking 200-300 € for basic manipulation...

Gabriele Magnabosco that’s crazy. In slovakia where I live I have our club range about 6 km far, club membership is 35 €/year. According Slovak laws it’s mandatory membership to be able to have long semiautomatic firearm (no waiting period). No need to become gun club member for own and carry short firearm or for hunters. Once you are club member, no other fees apply. And since I reload (also for rifle) I don’t have to pay crazy ammo prices on the shelf. On the other hand, becoming club member has huge advantage too for other reasons - lot of great and experienced guys will teach you with proper firearm manipulation and shooting techniques and for free!
