When my mom made potato pancakes, she would shred in some raw potatoes and onions. She would serve them with homemade chunky applesauce or sour cream. For the oil, she used bacon drippings. Always delicious. Thanks for your recipe.

Nathaniel, I grew up in the northeast. Connecticut, New York & Massachusetts. We called the shredded potato cakes latkes. Served with a dollop of sour cream and some apple sauce. Yummy!

That is how my Polish Grandmother made them...We usually made these with leftover mashed potatoes, these were called potato croquets...

I Have been Making these for years I Add Cheese and chopped Onions in my mixed Potatoes and fry them in Olive oil and butter. So yummy.

I just made potato pancakes tonight. I use my Moms recipe. Salt and pepper in 2 cups cold mashed potatoes, flour, chopped onion, grated Colby cheese, real bacon bits, or ham chunks, or meat of your choice. You can also add some Dry Ranch Dressing in the potato mixture! My Mom always dredged the potato cake in a plate of flour to cover the entire outside. The flour in the recipe helps bind the patty…. The flour on the outside helps make them crispy❣️

I'm on a low-carb eating plan right now. This is killing me. Haha
I like to sautee an onion or two; and then taking those sauteed, chopped pieces of onion and mix them in with potatoes and cheese and bacon. And then use the onion oil, to fry them off. If you put a good dollop of sour cream on top of one. They are loaded potato pancakes. 😛
This will be one of the first things I make after I finish this low-carb eating program. You ladies are the best.

We like them in the North too. I grew up in Minnesota and all of my relatives were of German decent. My great grandmother still spoke German. She called them Kartoffelpuffer as a kid I thought she was being funny. Those were different from latkes.

My mother was born in Germany, and my father was born in Nebraska, both grew up with potato pancakes. The big difference was chopped onions, my mother added them to the batter and serve them topped with cream cheese, my father would leave out the onions and serve them with apple sauce. Loved them both ways!!

My momma uses to make these. She would make them for breakfast with the leftover mashed potatoes from the night before. If you really want to add flavor, fry them in bacon grease. My favorite dip was always ketchup.

As someone mentioned in coments in Poland we call them placki but... we use grated raw potatoes. We also add majoram and serving with sour cream. Try it! They will need a bit more time on pan but are much better. I will try yours though😉. Thanks for shearing!

I make mine using 3 cups leftover mashed potatoes, 2-3 minced garlic cloves sauteed, 1 egg, 1-2 tbs ranch dressing and half a sleeve crushed Ritz-style crackers, crushed. This is a recipe of my own making.

Another home run for you girls. Try slicing some potato rounds & some onion. Put a slice of onion between 2 slices of potato, dip in a batter (seasoned to taste) & deep fry to golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Tasty little deep fried potato sandwiches.

This is a great starter recipe. Learn yer stove top and skillet. I did use 1 tsp of onion powder vs. garlic powder 'cause I cook and stuff. Temperature control is key. They're all good though. My family story with these is my grandma used to make them so when I came home after a night of being a late-teen early-twenty kinda guy, I would have something to put onto my stomach before going to bed. Now THAT's a thoughtful and practical grandma! BTW, 18 was the legal drinking age back then, so.... Harumph!
