My grandma always kept a plate of something (potato pancakes, mackerel patties, cornbread)on the back of the stove for us kid’s. Kids stayed OUTSIDE during the day.
Reminds me of Sunday at Grandma's. Leftover breakfast was left on the stove or in the oven for snacks until dinner. There were never enough of these. I know you're probably not as old as I am, but your videos sure bring back memories. Keep it up.
You know what, I just realize this is a cowboy version of Mr Roger 1)Kent is always inviting neighbors. 2) The Rollins are a very approachable couple. 3) This channel always got me running to new and old videos.

Brother Kent, I truly appreciate you for all the wonderful recipes that you have shared with us... this one in particular is my wife's favorite. I made this for breakfast last weekend and got in trouble (good trouble) . I just want to thank you for what you do and we look forward to more
Never made potatoe pancakes with mashed potatoes. Always used raw shredded potatoes and grated raw onion, couple eggs, pancake mix vanilla. Mix, fry up in oil, serve with apple sause. Whenever I had a crew up in the mountains, I'd make up a few dozen. They're just fine dinning. Extremely popular back in NY and NJ. I'll try the mashed kind but have to remember to make extra.
Kent....Like your creative recipe....my grandma used to grate her potatoes.....added eggs, flour and milk. And, installed some warm maple syrup on top! Thanks for your consistent messages and support to us Vets!!!!
I have 3 younger brothers. We had left over mashed potatoes because Mother cooked them so she could have extra for potato pancakes for breakfast next morning. Thank you again. Be blessed.
Appreciate all the things that you do for everybody else here is getting for your recipes and I think you for always thinking the military cause they do need our support. They are very good people and hard-working and dedicated people. We should always think of whenever we see him.😊
I just happened across your videos today and I cant stop watching, you are so warm and inviting and as a service member that has been deployed a few times I appreciate the heartfelt appreciation in every video. I got my mother an entire cast iron cooking set and will share your videos with her so she has plenty of recipes for when I'm back home. Keep on dancing and yeehaw cowboy.
My mum’s Ukrainian and she used to make these with grated raw potatoes. Mixed with egg, flour and whatever else you want to put in. She then added flour to thicken the mixture and cook them. Because the pancakes were grated veg, they cooked in a shallow frier very quickly and crispy. I make these now for my kids and grandchildren. Still a family favourite. 👍🇦🇺
I'm so glad I found this channel. This guy remind me of my grandpa, who's been passed away for quite awhile now. But I swear my gpa talked just exactly like him. I love talking to guys from their generation. It's sad how few are left.
I remember my Mom making these when I was a kid and I'd totally forgot all about them until now almost 35 years later. Thanks Kent for bringing back some childhood memories and I'll be trying them this weekend. Blessings to You, Shan, Duke and of course The Beag.
I’ve been cooking traditional Scottish food for a few years because I’m in touch with my ethnic heritage (I also speak Gaelic!). This has been in Scotland for a few hundred years, but I’ve never seen them done with bacon pieces and green onions! I guess it’s time to try another batch.
My mom made potato cakes/pancakes when I was a young boy and I loved them. Our mashed potatoes never got thrown out. Thanks Kent for showing a wonderful recipe that I’ll certainly be putting together and having. These are going to be great as a hot lunch/dinner or breakfast, maybe even a supper. Yes I said supper. I grew up in Arkansas and my family had breakfast, dinner and supper.
Been watching your videos before you hit the 500k subscribers. Never been disappointed, easy to follow and Ken is a fine cook with a great sense of humor. Being an old veteran, I love the tip of the hat at the end!!!
I did this recipe for my wife and she absolutely loved it. Even I had one and liked it and I never cared for potato pancakes before. Thank you Mr. Rollins!
Kent! I had some left over mashed potatoes from a few nights ago and last night I whipped up some of these potato pancakes and I tell you what they were, as you would say, GOOD EATIN'! Awesome recipe good sir and I thank you. Also, thank you for your support to the veteran community as well as the men and women that are still serving our country. It means a lot to us and then some.
My dad's mom, W.Va, was Scottish and married to a German/Scot. She made something similar 3x4 times a week. To make my grandpa happy she always served with sour cream, apple sauce or apple butter. Grandpa would sit with a big smile and not talk until he was done eating. Thanks for the memories. 😎💖🇺🇸☕🍩⌛🧂👍👌
My wife and I are going to try this. My mom used to make these and passed w breast cancer while in college. We’ve tried through recipes in a book. The way you taught it ...gave us encouragement to try it again. Cause the several other times we made them must’ve been too thin. Thanks!
My mom always made these for us when we were little and they were my favorite potato pancake version. The crispy outside and soft, buttery inside is so good!
My Gramma always had potato cakes sittin' on the back of the wood stove when I was a kid back in the 50's and 60's. Loved those things, but never had them with anything other than salt and pepper. She always used lard or bacon grease to fry them in.
Another great home cooking recipe to try, you can tell you miss youre mom and thats something to admire, I miss my mom too even though she didnt cook much she made up with love and caring for us, thanks for sharing big saluute to our service people as well.!!
My Momma always makes me some potato pancakes when she is around visiting me. Growing up in Oklahoma was the best. I need to try them with the bacon and cheese in them. She would put the green onions in hers. (I am glad she is still here on God's green earth to make them for me when she can.) Thank you for sharing your recipe! God bless you and your family!
Tomorrow morning on my day off I'll be up before the birds to get this recipe going. I can hardly wait, potato pancakes for breakfast are such a treat! This recipe looks to be good enough to feed 4 grown men 1-2 each or 1 greedy old man (me) 4 or so. Since my house mates all leave for work before the birds are tweetin' I have a good idea who's eating what. Thanks Cookie! :)
Good idea with the salsa Norman. Here is a switch....we used to put maple syrup on these too! USAF - 68-72 - one in Vietnam. I too appreciate Kent’s support and recognition of vets and the military.
I do love me some potato patties! Just once when you take a bite I'd like to see you go around the table and give one to the little lady too. She deserves it. Thanks Kent.
These were a part of our country breakfast, lunch and even supper. Been eating them for 59 years now. And nothing tastes better. I like sour cream and salsa or melted cheese on mine. Thanks for bringing back great memories with these.
OM goodness,, I’m the youngest of 5 and we would fight over these after school who ever got home first after chores got the most ,, thanks Kent and Shan for another home run as always fantastic video ,, god bless cowboy and cowgirl
My family makes a simpler version of this with just left over mashed taters, onions, egg, and flour. They're tasty. We always called them tater cakes. I've also had left over soup beans fixed like this, too. Likewise, they're called bean cakes. Good stuff. And it's my unexpert opinion that everything is better fried in bacon grease.
Thanks, I have now been cooking over the fire and using the 'heck' out of my cast iron. I wanted to say thanks for being an inspiration on us home Dad cooks. Much love to you and Shannon! By the way, she does an outstanding job on the filming, audio, and editing, she is a true artist. Send her our best from Texas.

I used to make these all the time, and my boys would eat them after school as snacks 👍 My boys are all grown now and I haven’t made them in a long time. Thank you I’m definitely going to make a batch soon! 😁

That's something you do really well, revive recipes that have been forgotten over time, and take them to a new level. I made these tonight and they were excellent! My Mom would make these all the time! Ketchup is good , so is some sausage or hamburger gravy ! Also tried them with sour cream ( GOOD! ) and my favorite, creamed corn! ( I’ll have to give em a try with that fried egg on top for breakfast...)
My grandma always kept a plate of something (potato pancakes, mackerel patties, cornbread)on the back of the stove for us kid’s. Kids stayed OUTSIDE during the day.

My Mom would make these all the time! Ketchup is good , so is some sausage or hamburger gravy ! Also tried them with sour cream ( GOOD! ) and my favorite, creamed corn! ( I’ll have to give em a try with that fried egg on top for breakfast...)
Use leftover bacon grease that's in the back of the fridge 🥓🥓🥓👨🍳
Just tried some this morning. Came out pretty dang good. Thank you for the recipe. Something new for breakfast every once in awhile.
Thanks for watching
