- Welcome or welcome back to the stash! today we go over the new issue of The Amazing Spider-Man.
PREVIOUSLY;
The sins of NORMAN OSBORN have returned to their rightful host, unleashing the GREEN GOBLIN on the world once more. Peter had been planning for this eventuality and managed to corner Norman in his lab, where Spider-Man was able to even the playing field to get the upper hand. Unfortunately, the Green Goblin had a trick up his own sleeve. When Peter had taken the sins of Norman Osborn into himself months ago, his twisted persona preserved itself via the WINKLER DEVICE, brainwashing Peter to switch back to it when a code phrase is said. Green Goblin activated the phrase and brought SPIDER-GOBLIN to the forefront of Peter's psyche.
The only one who knows what's happened to Peter Parker is the LIVING BRAIN, who has been trying to get a warning out to Peter from the Oscorp sub-basement. While it may be too late to prevent the Spider-Goblin from manifesting, it can still save Peter Parker. But to do so, the Living Brain had to transform itself into the mobile WALKING BRAIN!

The spider goblin stuff is so bad and freaking garbage, that at this point I just want this entire story arc to come an end asap so we can end this garbage soon.
im hoping for an #60 exit from wells, i remmeber somewhere it was said that could be the case but you can never tell anymore!

I think the only good thing about this issue is there's no sign of Paul or MJ so we don't have to deal with that nonsense again. Sure we'd all wish for Peter to kill Paul, but I don't want him going through issues of guilt and being beaten down for it. Besides Wells would rather kill off Peter than his Prescious Paul
Killing Paul will make MJ hate Peter forever. No one in their right mind would date your boyfriend's killer. Felicia will never forgive Peter either, she is the closest person to MJ and certainly does not wish harm to Paul.

The spider-goblin suit is so bad. Like I know that in-universe that norman goblin suit is consider terrible so it translate to his taste in costume but this is a whole new level of terrible

5:18 "I've always done you the courtesy of fighting fair" I love how that contradicts even the first comic with The Vulture in it (ASM Vol 1 #2) where Spider-Man beat the Vulture using a jammer to disrupt his flight... but hey who wants good continuity and good writing that actually remembers what happened before... EVERYONE that's who.
hes ignored canon heaps of times, zeb is a total hack. even earlier he made Peter say this speech about how he finally sees the old roman again before he was the goblin, the norman who was like a father figure...THIS NEVER HAPPENED. he got the comic and sam rami lore mixed up, hes an actual bozo
At least we got to see Carol Danvers as Ms. Marvel again. That's about it.

U kno im actually starting to come around on Zeb. He’s making it so easy to not buy these comics. It’s less money I spend and more room I save in the long boxes for better comics actually worth buying.

We could get a beautiful arch of Peter, who finally discarded Uncle Ben's instructions. A strong, confident antihero who would be much better than Otto. He might even have killed some of his villains, forcing the heroes to confront Peter, and he would have defeated them, showing how strong Peter is. Humiliate Jackpot and Paul by showing them their place. And a lot of other things. But Wells, in principle, is not capable of creating such a thing.
exactly he had so many options of where to take this and he doubled down on the same route he went the first time he tried this horrible story! only difference is hes gone way more over the top
Maybe kill off MJ in a final issue with Both Peter and her regaining their OMD memories and Paul confirmed Mephisto's disguise, Peter will end up dating Tigra at some point and he marries her.
That's how i'll fix this series, or just retcon OMD and this run and Peter remains with MJ
People complained about Slott (whose run I loved), but they did not know that it would get worse.
I'm honestly on my knees praying they stay away from kaine & miles too, they already killed my boy ben's personality & peter's will.

I feel like Zeb wells needs to take what is going on with Ultimate Spider-Man and realize that what people want is just a good Spider-Man story not random pointless suffering and rehashes of old villains. Like he fact that Norman Osborn was redeemed and he just threw all of that out the window for no reason just baffles me. They had a chance to make an actual story that could have been made canon that would’ve been a huge impact to focus on new villains. But noooo they had to make him evil again with spider goblin as his sidekick. It’s just getting ridiculous at this point.
thats why I was so confused at all the complaints towards usm and its slow pace and focus on dialogue! its what makes spider-man comics special and its absence is felt so heavily in Zeb Wells spider-man comics

@@casadatcentral plus it was clear usm is not a 6 part special so it will have plenty of time for action. I think it comes down to the cartoonified borderline braindead BND stories making most readers just accustomed to poor story telling

Hey MNStash, great news. Looks like "ASM # 58" will start the final arc and run of Zeb Wells. However, this arc might go to Issue # 100. I hope not. However, my concern is where will Marvel take Peter Parker/Spider-Man after Well's run ends? I'm not optimistic about the future of Spider-Man comics. For all we know, Marvel might hire Tom King or Tini Howard from DC to write "ASM". That would be worse. I'm also 100% certain, the new writer will start a new volume. Another # 1. Whooopeeeee!! It's great news, but then again uncertain news. Looking forward to your next review. Keep up the great work. Cheers.
I saw that today and jumped out of bed!! I can't see it lasting 40 issues because I think the low sales have finally gotten to them and they'll want to get back to issue 1 as soon as possible for a quick buck. I wouldn't mind chip to come back to spider-man and do asm. his stuff was pretty poor at the start but when he got in his grove he had a hidden gem or two of a story. JMS I think has lost his touch because his new cap series is pretty bad but maybe he could recapture what he had during the 2000s minus the spider totem that was such a horrible concept
@@mnstash It's definitely something to think about. I'm going to go over my questions/concerns about the upcoming Zeb Wells conclusion story arc.
As you know, I started following DC and Marvel comics in 1969. Spider-Man, Superman, Batman, Captain America, The Flash (Barry Allen), Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), DareDevil, Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, The Avengers, and The Justice League of America (JLA) (with the Justice Society of America (JSA) guest starring) would become my favorite comics. I never got into The Fantastic Four (FF) or X-Men. I only followed those characters when they would crossover with my Marvel favorites. I became interested in these characters from the watching DC "Super Powers" cartoon series with Superman, Superboy, Aquaman, and Batman & Robin from 1966 to 1969, the "Marvel Heroes" cartoon from 1966 to 1968, and the "Spider-Man (1967) cartoon from 1967 to 1970.
Spider-Man was on a slow decline after "TASM Annual #21" after MJ and Peter got married. Back then I thought it was great. I even called my friends, who weren't comic book fans to share the news Peter Parker/Spider-Man finally married MJ. That's how excited I was for "TASM" back then. Now I think Marvel made a mistake marrying them back then, and I thought there was a lost opportunity when Marvel didn't marry Peter and Felicia. Then "OMD/BND" happened in 2007 making "ASM" a decaying corpse ever since. That thrill and excitement regarding: "ASM' is long gone and probably will never come back.
I'm glad this run is over, but there are many questions regarding the future of "ASM".
1. We don't know where Zeb Wells will end this terrible run. Will he kill off Paul? Will he have Paul make a grand gesture of sacrificing himself for MJ and possibly Pete? Will there be any consequences after this final showdown with Tombstone? I highly doubt it.
2. Who will the next writer be? What will Marvel do? It's highly probable, that Marvel will ruin Spider-Man even further than this run accomplished.
3. If MJ and Peter or Felicia and Peter aren't together at the end of this run, who will be Peter's new love interest? Michelle the Lawyer? Yikes! Even if the run ends with a certain story ending, how do we know, the new writer won't retcon that storyline and go in another direction? This is what Zeb Wells did after the Nick Spencer run.
4. We all can expect another new volume after this run. "ASM" will have another # 1 issue. What will this accomplish? Nothing in my opinion.
5. Is Kamala Kahn/Ms. Is Marvel going to have an important role in this last story arc? Probably. What for? Will she be brought into the new volume? Can't wait for that.
6. Will Miles Morales become a permanent character in the new "ASM" volume? Will the new writer kill off Peter Parker and Miles Morales will become Spider-Man in "ASM" Will Zeb Wells do that before he leaves?
7. Will the new writer generate Spidey storylines where Spider-man will be able to defeat A-List villains again? Probably not. I'd accept Spidey being able to beat B-List villains.
I don't trust Marvel and where the company is going to take Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the new volume. Marvel is a terrible company and should close their doors before they totally ruin Spider-man. I don't think the character is salvageable now, but who knows what the future holds. I'm not optimistic, and I think Spidey Fans should prepare for the worst regarding the end of this run and the beginning of the next run with the new writer. A tragedy indeed!
I'd say just let Marvel burn to the ground at this point. But that wouldn't be fair. How could I possibly wish for the legacy of the character to be this?
Really, I just want someone, anyone, with a passion and love for storytelling and the characters they write about to come in and breathe life back into this franchise. I think Marvel needs a clean slate of writers. Get rid of everyone and bring in unknowns who have a clear passion for the craft. Cause clearly, the current crop have lost it. We need passion, we need love, and dang it, we need some hope in this world.
Somehow.... I'm not even surprised since Marvel editorial just doesn't want Peter Parker to have a happy life. Zen Wells will always find a way to screw up Peter.
say he leaves around issue 60...realistically how much more damage can he do? I wouldn't put anything past him ofc

I personally like Norman resurrection in the 90s but I think his story should have ended at the end red goblin or where nick Spencer left peter and his relationship off with peter still hating and even beating the shit out of Norman even tho he got his sins /evilness taken away (I’m still 50/50 on that tho since Norman as a character is evil) but I hate how zeb wells then goes and completely ignores what Nick Spencer and even Dan slot wrote and also tried to change history in the comic between peter and Norman he doesn’t know who he is writing and zeb and nick is why I dropped asm tbh
thats right with wells theres no form of conitnuinity whatsoever when it comes with his writing. at so many points during this series its genuinely felt like an else worlds tale because of how out of character he writes everyone
Another great video. Amazingly, "ASM # 49" & "ASM # 50" are in the top ten of Marvel Comic Sales. Unfortunately, that means Zeb Wells isn't going anywhere anytime soon :(. Wells will probably be with this comic until # 100. Yikes!
What I would like to see is that Felicia's Comic "Jackpot and The Black Cat" has been canceled. Felicia realizes her lesbian/bisexual relationship isn't working and she truly loves Peter. She returns and saves Peter from being the Spider-Goblin because of her love for Peter. They get back together and in issue # 60, they marry. Oh wait, sorry, I was daydreaming. Never will happen with Wells writing this comic or won't happen no matter who's writing this comic for Marvel. I can continue dreaming if I want to. Keep up the great work, cheers.
i was shocked when i saw that too but we gotta keep in mind one was a milestone issue and the other was a massive tie in! alot of those sales arent because people enjoy the book!

@@mnstash You're Welcome. I don't read "Jackpot" or "Jackpot and The Black Cat". I only know of the comics per other TH-cam Channel reviews. I wouldn't waste my time.
I don't know what's worse these days reading Marvel or DC comics or watching any of the ruined franchises like "Doctor Who" and "Star Wars The Acolyte". Are any of these franchises, franchises these days? I don't think so. When Lesbian Space Witches can have children through the thread (formerly known as the force), any remaining diehard Star Wars fans should know it's time to move on. Again, I don't waste my time watching this garbage, I moved on from the franchises I grew up with a long time ago. I remember when "The Empire Strikes Back" was being released and how excited I was to go see that movie. That feeling is long gone regarding Star Wars or the other franchises. It's a shame really.

I shouldn't have expected Norman's reformation to last long. Also I agree that I'm tired of only seeing Spider-Man perform well when corrupted. Moments where Spider-Man is ruthless should he used sparring thats what makes moments like Back in Black so impactful. Though Peter may have also performed so well because he has the goblins gadgets honestly this is something Spider-Man proper should be able to do with prep time.
Moving on i hate that absorbing Norman's sins things and him getting overtaken *Again* Spider-Man is known for his willpower. Its even been listed as a notable power. Thats how he got the Symbiote off Doc Ock in Superior Spider-Man. Its part of wht Goblin can never beat him. Theres an arc where Goblin tortured him and tried to make him drink the goblin serum and Spider-Man found the strength to reject him or that time when he said he wouldn't kill goblin no matter what and told him that Goblin simply being himself was life without parole.
exactly, its so stupid how zeb constantly ignores canon just so he can write all this garbage! also are you referring to that time goblin locked him in the mansion? that story was insane and another piece of evidence as to why Pete would never trust him like he did in this series

Hey, I know your pain, as a Spider-Man fan myself, I understand how much you are going through right now, if it helps you to know is that there's a Spider-Man comic out and I like to see you go over that one than this dumpster fire of this one. The comic is called Spider-Man: shadows of the Green Goblin, I've been looking over it and I think it is amazing and I felt like I was reading Spider-Man and it felt good. I hope you get some time and give this one a look and tell everyone about it when you get time. Thanks for your hard work making these videos and I hope you keep going, best of luck.

The reason why Wells writes Spider-Man competent when he's a villain is because he's trying to make people hate Spider-Man! If that wasn't already obvious. His goal is to make us dislike his out-of-control violence and when he regains control he'll get belittled for his actions and his own faults, by other characters and by himself. He literally did the same thing the last time he turned Peter evil. But yeah the problem with Spider-Man comics is the same for current Batman & Captain America comics, their all written by people who clearly hate them.
i gave the new cap series a try when i heard JMS was gonna write it but man is it rough. i dont care for cap fighting a bunch of whatever the hell they were demons.
imagine whenever a new writer comes in, i couldnt imagine the mess theyd have to fix

@@mnstash I can see that but we really wanna know how you feel about Peter's fake virtual family with Gwen like him saying "The woman of his dreams" referring to her not MJ like I get that we have to be reminded of her being his one true love but MJ has mostly been the woman in his life for the most of it after Gwen passed but who am I judged that I cannot blame Peter for simply thinking about how his life with Gwen would've been had he saved her, married her and started a family with her or even give up his hero duties to be with her something like that yknow?

He returned in clone saga as he was mastermind behind it all. From early 2000s till now they fought more then ever.
Norman was killed in "The Night Gwen Stacy Died" and stayed that way throughout the 70s and 80s with Harry Osborn and Bart Hamilton replacing him briefly, as well as the Hobgoblin.
He was later retconned into having survived and was in hiding the entire time, planning the infamous Clone Saga.

Seriously. Did Hasbro come up with the crap-tastic spider-goblin idea, hoping to sell it as an action figure? And yes, Norman Osborn should have stayed dead. IMAO, Marvel needs to retcon every last thing that has happened in their Spiderman books, going back to wherever they were at right before they started in on the 'clone saga', from the early (?) 1990s. That would solve a lot of problems. A whole lot of problems!
Me personally my favourite ending point is asm 500 I love that story so much man I’d be happy if they said everything after that milestone was just a massive nightmare

@@extremeotakugamer because he's favoured within the editorial? nick Spencer had to go because he was actively trying to fix all the issues and those books sold relatively well whereas now we got a writer who abides happily by their rules however the books dont sell.
