- Welcome or welcome back to the stash! today we go over the new issue of The Amazing Spider-Man.
PREVIOUSLY;
NORMAN OSBORN'S sins were supernaturally cleansed, and he has been a force for good in the world--both as the ethical C.E.O. of Oscorp and as the super-heroic GOLD GOBLIN. He hired Peter to work for him at Oscorp both for Peter's scientific genius and to be vigilant so Norman wouldn't fall into old psychotic habits.
Recently, Norman's sins returned, and Peter took them into himself and became a very sinister Spider-Man. Norman and Kraven, of all people, used a sci-mystical spear to remove the sins from Peter. Or did they? Norman has been acting strange lately. But, to be honest, so has Peter.
Not too long ago, Peter saved the LIVING BRAIN from a vengeful SINISTER SIX, whom the Living Brain had kidnapped quite easily. Peter had the enormous brain moved to a sealed sub-basement lab at Oscorp under the protection of DR. CURT CONNORS. The brilliance of the Living Brain seems to have broken the seal, but to WHAT END?!

I did like how Peter played Osbourne but why does he have to turn evil again?! Because Spider Man is to Marvel like Batman is to DC.
Rest in peace to the Gold Goblin costume, it was the best thing Norman had since he was the Iron patriot back in his Dark Avengers days.
Hopefully one day after all this crap is forgotten, he can go back to being the Gold Goblin and make it his permanent status as a character.

Zebb Wells and Nick always remind me why I love Ultimate Spider-Man. I feel so excited reading Ultimate Spider-Man, but that excitement turns to disappointment when I remember that in Amazing Spider-Man, Peter is being mistreated by Mary Jane and is facing unfair criticism from her and his so-called friends. And Nick Jones is right It's frustrating to see Peter being lectured, especially considering the hardships he's endured, such as losing all three parental figures in tragic circumstances and caring for his elderly aunt at a young age. It's unfair to treat his difficult life as if it's privileged.
oh but just remember according to nick lowe himself we're all wrong and him and wells are the only two people right! because when making a comic their opinons are the only ones that matter! we just misread the book over and over again...God if i ever meet nick lowe
Man, and I thought Dan Slott was the worst person to touch Spider-Man. But Zeb hit a new low.

Well it doesn't takes place in the 616 universe. But we sorta got a reboot with Ultimate Spider-man 2024. But Ultimate Spider-man 2024 might be temporary just like Spider-man renew your vows. Is best that Zeb doesn't make any public appearances like he did in comic con. He will get so much hate from the fans and maybe or most likely death treats too.
While i doubt they would reboot 616 just for spiderman they need to just blame everything post OMD on mephisto and kill him off, just close this shit chapter and marry peter and MJ again
If Nick Lowe and others in Marvel editorial don’t think we are reading the book right and missing the obvious genius of their lazy and rushed stories. Then let them buy it. I sure as hell ain’t. I’m actually restocking on back issues of old ASM. Stories and runs that back then were looked at as “bad” but in comparison to Wells these back issues are GOLD!

This may sound mean but when Nick Lowe said on Twitter (I'm not calling it X) "AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #50 is maybe the best comic ever." I posted a reply that said "I think we need to bring in George Takei to inform you of something:" and linked him to the video of George Takei saying "Your intellect is as weak as your dollar. Failure is your destiny. You disrespect yourself and your nation. You are made of stupid."
Also, I know I've made this joke before and it's a very predictable one but I can't resist: When it comes to this arc and Peter being turned into the Green Goblin there is only one thing that can be said: Look at Little Goblin Jr. You gonna cry.

I genuinely dread whenever I’m gonna make the next video on the series, reading asm should be listed under causes for series migraines
If this weren't the main continuity Spider-Man book this would almost approach "so dumb and bad it's good" but it is, so it doesn't.
I genuinely feel so bad for comic stores because they just can't sell a single issue of this crap, they should just swap asm with usm at this point
And this is why Jonathan Hickman's Ultimate Spider-Man should've been the mainstream Spider-Man comics instead where Zeb Wells' Amazing Spider-Man would've instead set in an alternate universe where it would be an retold of Spider-Man's classic stories for an new generation of readers to get into comics and stuff.

This is clearly part of a storyline called "Easy Being Goblin" arc on the comic as of lately I can speculate that in this state Peter is in he might finally kill Paul just to spite MJ but unfortunately to us bad things gonna happen between Peter and MJ for taking someone who isn't technically right for MJ in the first place so why bother does it matter to us? No it does not her true soulmate is Peter not some random that we do not have an attachment too like that weirdo looking smug sob Paul so yeah I am praying for God that he is being getting rid off soon once this story ends so yeah MJ should really be written like an actual original character we're used not a shelf of her former self herself as of now yeah Spider Goblin is gonna win against Jackpot that is something I can see happening but this is too much for anyone to bare though man

Peter won't kill Paul because:
1) This will destroy any opportunity to return to MJ... And Felicia, because Felicia is now the most important person for Red, even more important than Paul.
2) Peter cannot win and take revenge. Angry Peter is too cool and people will like him. Marvel won't let that happen.
3) no one will touch the author's self-installation.
I totally get the frustration. It seems like Paul's only purpose is to keep Peter and MJ apart, and it's frustrating because the writers won't let Peter move on. Despite Peter's past relationships, in this comic, he's depicted as a joke who can't maintain a stable relationship for even a short while. Meanwhile, MJ is thriving with her powers and her supportive husband.

Thankfully I am happy we got ultimate Spider-Man which came out this week because that book is ten times better then this horrible asm book which has been so bad mad garbage that it ain’t even funny but just sad and garbage.

It really feels that Zeb, Nick and Marvel Editorial just want ASM fans to just feel horrible at every turn when it comes to just wanting a good Spider-Man stories of to just let him have some form of happiness in his life.

The real problem is Nick Lowe Marvel needs to get a different editor and maybe finally we get Peter and Mary Jane married again. For some reason Marvel thinks a down on his luck and miserable Spider man will sell comics.
MJ is completely messed up. Peter's problem is not marriage. Even without a family, he can be mega successful. No, he's just humiliated and broken, he needs to be alone and let the new author completely recreate him. Without MJ. Peter doesn't need her at all.

Vote with your wallet! If you don't like the book, then don't buy it. I hear so many people complain about how bad ASM has been for the last 5-10 years, and yet it's always one of the highest selling Marvel books. Read Ultimate Spider-Man instead. It's been great so far.

5:31 I'm gonna disagree with you on just this. I really am kinda tired of Goblin, and the superficial "status quo" with Peter. The status quo would be that Peter remains broke, still struggles with his social life, and his relationships, and he still continues to get the same ol' nonsense with the same ol' villains. Sandman had a beautiful sendoff when he supposedly passed away, and then they completely ruined it by bringing him back. Like... why?! We need Spider-Dad to be canon in 616, dammit. Also, when was the last time we got a brand new original Spidey villain in the past 2 decades that was actually good? I am fine with Osborn growing out of his Goblin phase. Because him becoming good and staying good would be a testament to Peter's heroism. Marvel's obsession with their inability to let their characters actually grow is tiring. I mean, there are actual stakes that this Peter can face as a family-man, if they'd just let him be one. Heck, now he's justified for making all the dad-jokes.
Besides that, yeah, I fully agree with you. Wells and Lowe need to be booted.

The only good thing Zeb Wells did with the Spidey-comics, is that he gave content to content creators to make fun of.
Also, did you just call Nick Spencer's run "Good"? All he did is retcon and build on other people's ideas (Which you seemed to have a problem with in this video when it came to Zeb Wells). Yes, it was based, that MJ and Peter dated again, but they barely talked to each other. Nick Spencer's stories weren't bad, they were just really boring. At least he was better compared to Zeb Wells.
Nick Spencer got rid of sins past, and was working on undoing one more day.
Peter had the ring in his pocket and i'm sure if hé was allowed to continue hé would have Peter propose to her.

theres a difference with continuing a story and fixing things than straight up copying story beats in my view of things. I thank Spencer for doing a lot of hard work of trying to fix the books and its so annoying zeb came in and undid everything. but I will say the kindred stuff was a real drag and could've been handled way better!
The only thing worse than someone writing bad stories is someone who lets it happen and blames the reader for not liking it. People could really benefit from humility and accountability.

Excellent analysis. Great video. Many Marvel fans and ex-fans feel the same way. I've commented many times over the last 7 years or so, that Marvel and DC should close their doors and license out their characters to independent companies who understand their characters. With all these terrible storylines, mostly atrocious art, and dreadful sales, I guess Marvel feels this is a successful business model. I disagree, but who am I? It seems Marvel's new business model is to publish as many reboots as possible, sell as many #1s as possible, and then cancel the book. This is happening with the current "Invincible Ironman" and "Doctor Strange" comics.
Spoiler alerts. "Superior Spider-Man (SSM)" has been canceled after issue # 7. No announcement was made, but Marvel decided to cancel the book. I couldn't care less as I still think Dan Slott is a talentless hack who I'll never forgive for "OMD/BND". He's a horrible writer period. Slott also writes "Spider-Boy" who should be a supporting character to Spider-Man and shouldn't have his own book. I know a lot of Spidey fans like the character of Bailey Briggs, but I'm not one of them.
More Spoilers. "USM #5" was released and it's a Harry Osborn origin story. Spider-Man again doesn't appear in this issue. How can you have a "USM" comic where 3 out of the first 5 issues don't have Spider-Man appearing in the book? It's totally mind-boggling. Hickman either doesn't understand how to write Spider-Man like he did with Invincible, or it must be a directive from the Marvel editor to write the comic in this awful way. I recommend Hickman to go back and read issues 1 through 50 of the OG Spider-Man run of Vol. # 1 to understand Spider-Man. Won't happen. Secondly, I don't think Hickman understands the importance of Peter Parker having a secret identity. This wasn't as important or critical with Mark Grayson in the "Invincible" comic because quite a few people know his father is Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man and they know Mark is Invincible. However, it's paramount Peter maintains his secret identity so his loved ones aren't targeted by his enemies. This was also important to Clark Kent/Superman. As we all know both Marvel and DC had to retcon both Clark Kent revealing he was Superman and Spider-Man revealing he's Peter Parker during the Civil War storyline because it didn't work. In "USM" Peter openly admits to Harry Osborn he received his powers from Tony Stark when he barely knows Norman Osborn. Pretty stupid to me. I'm following this comic to issue #10, if it doesn't get any better or gets worse, then I'm checking out like I did with "The Spectacular Spider-Men (TSSM)".
My ideas for Spider-Man storylines can't be as bad as these Marvel comic issues that don't last more than 6 to 10 issues. Would it be so bad to have a comic mini-series or run of an alternate universe with SpiderCat or of Spider-Gwen and Peter Parker/Spider-Man being together? Would that last to 10 issues or maybe 20 issues? It might. It's more interesting than the garbage being published today. I agree with MNStash wholeheartedly about how frustrating, tiresome, and annoying these storylines are, and how disappointing Marvel has become. At 62, I feel lucky, I grew up when Marvel and DC comics were good. I feel sorry for this current generation to have to deal with this trash. Again, if this is Marvel's business model, then when will "Jackpot" and "Jackpot and The Black Cat" be canceled? Probably either comic won't have any announcement made to that effect just like "SSM" was canceled. It's tragic. It's a wonder Marvel makes any money. It now seems Marvel is only paying $80 a page for their comics, this is why was have terrible writers including Wells at Marvel. You can't have good writers come to your company when you're paying such a low amount to write comics. That's why X-Men isn't X-Men anymore, heck are they even Mutants anymore? Can anyone become part of the X-Men like Ms. Marvel? It's dreadful. Keep up the great work,. If this is continuing in 2025/2026, it might be time to "throw in the towel", and start reviewing other titles. I hope not, and looking forward to your "USM # 5" review. Cheers.
it definately feels like that with the constant reboots for a flashy "WOW ISSUE 1 OUT NOW'' market scheme. but also the classic heres 10000 varient covers where we charge double to triple the price to make up for the lack of sales!
Slott has tried desparetly to give spidey a kid sidekick hes done it with that alpha kid now with spider boy and none stick. when we look back at his time at marvel itll be probably one of the most embarrasing careers ever. a whole bunch of failed ideas that no one cared about and im glad another one of his series is cancelled because he doesnt deserve it. plus hes blocked me too

thank you again for the support, seriously it means alot to me! i really do wish i couldve had actual good spidey comics fresh off release throughout my life but being 18 i was literally incapable of reading when the good years were still happening granted even then the good years were dying fast.

I was fortunate to be able to buy good Spidey comics fresh off-release in yesteryears, but it's like a Shakespearean tragedy seeing the downfall of Marvel and DC and American comics in general. I guess the old cliche is true. Nothing lasts forever. At least, you have Read Comic Online to go back and read classic Spidey comics any time and as many times as you like. @@mnstash Hey MNStash. I watched the Comics Aficionados panel today hosted by a TH-cam Channel I've mentioned before "Thinking Critical". Their topic today was the best Marvel comic stories of all time. In their Spider-Man segment, the panel recommended, the Hobgoblin saga "TASM # 249 to 251", and Kraven's Last Hunt which was the 1st storyline post-MJ and Peter's wedding. Those issues were "Web of Spider-Man #31-32, The Amazing Spider-Man #293-294, Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #131-132, and the Carrion saga "Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man (PPTSS) #s 27 through 31".
IMO, the best Spider-man era was from "TASM #1, Vol, # 1 to TASM # 300". After that, the slow decline started for Spidey comics and Marvel in general. To be fair, I think up to "TASM # 400 is good, with the corresponding titles "PPTSS" and "TSS# 1 through #226", and "Web of Spider-Man #s 1 through # 126". After that, it's not worth following. I stopped collection in 1993, but the stories were still OK until Apil/May 1995. So I'd recommend following these storylines. Some of these plots are great, and some are OK, but overall quality was much superior to what is published today. Cheers.

My goal in life is to own a full run of volume one of asm. Ive currently got over like 250 issues out of 441 maybe one day ill get there, I own 1600 comics so if I really wanted to I could easily complete it but I collect every marvel series from the 60s

The story doesn't work because it hasn't been set up. That's why it feels like GG comes out of no where. THey actually do show through the art in 35 that the sins have left the spear, though we were too busy appreciating MJ embracing Peter before going home to sleep with Paul to notice (I'm not bitter, why would you think I'm bitter?). Like Peter obviously does trust Norman up until now. He depends on him to save his life with the new suit. He depends on him for his job. He depended on him to save MJ. He tells him he's starting to act like a father to Peter (in direct contradiction to both the far and recent past because again, hack). It's just not true that Peter never trusted him. And what's even worse is that "never" trusting him is actually not the correct answer again.
Because as this issue shows us, the only reason that Norman goes evil is because his Sins were returned to him. He DIDN'T fall back into his old ways. He was good and noble and self-sacrificing...until his evil was returned and no one noticed. So it's a change to Peter's outlook that's both unearned and unjustified. He doesn't look any better.
I also kind of hate his response to the cyclone letter, because again, nothign that has happened to Peter this run has been the result of his choices. MJ left because of HER choices. This is one of the reasons the entire story doesn't work. Just feels liek the franchise is doomed with this fool at the helm.
MJ leaving Peter was Just another form of one more day by editorial.
SPENCER got too close and now we are paying for it with this hastely slapt togheter abomination of a run.
Only this time MJ has been completely removed of the bord by chaining her with Paul and her Jackpot persona.
I don't see anyway back from this.
@@BoudewijnPiet The franchise will forever be worse for letting this happen, but there are lots of ways back, they just all involve retconning things so there was never a willing Paul relationship. Maybe this MJ is a fake copy like the kids that Paul made when the original refused to leave. Maybe he brainwashed her. There are ways, she's just ruined until then.
I felt so bad for Nick. He got the shitty job of trying to fix everything which is barely appreciated from what I can tell from some of the comments I get all for zeb to come in and undo all of it

Spencer was handed a bad situation with an editorial hostile to his primary idea and still managed to turn in the best Spider-Man since OMD. I can admit it's still middling, but it feels like an oasis and at the time it was just so hopeful. Like Marvel had finally realized they were mistaken and were going move things in the opposite direction. The Wells run was just this car crash of whiplash. It all falls back on leadership and the lack there of. Editorial is incompetent and should be fired. But because they're just a blip on the Disney balance sheet, no one is paying enough attention to their ineptitude.
