  • This is a book that seems to take the meme of Peter being a walking disaster to everyone he loves and cares about and extending it an entire series. It's not fun. It's stupid.
Paul was already a hated character, but this storyline gave us more reason to hate Paul.
    Description from Wikipedia
Spider-Man is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, he first appeared in the anthology comic book Amazing Fantasy #15 (August 1962) in the Silver Age of Comic Books. He has been featured in comic books, television shows, films, video games, novels, and plays.
Spider-Man's secret identity is Peter Benjamin Parker. Initially, Peter was depicted as a teenage high-school student and an orphan raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben in New York City after his parents Richard and Mary Parker died in a plane crash. Lee, Ditko and later creators had the character deal with the struggles of adolescence and young adulthood and gave him many supporting characters, such as Flash Thompson, J. Jonah Jameson, and Harry Osborn; romantic interests Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane Watson, and the Black Cat; and enemies such as Doctor Octopus, the Green Goblin, and Venom. In his origin story, Spider-Man gets his superhuman spider-powers and abilities after being bitten by a radioactive spider. These powers include superhuman strength, agility, reflexes, stamina, durability, coordination, and balance; clinging to surfaces and ceilings like a spider; and detecting danger with his precognition ability called "spider-sense". He builds wrist-mounted "web-shooter" devices that shoot artificial spider-webs of his own design, which he uses both for fighting and for web-swinging across the city. Peter Parker originally used his powers for his own personal gain, but after his Uncle Ben was killed by a thief that Peter could not stop, he began to use his powers to fight crime by becoming Spider-Man.

This is a good video largely, but I wish you would have gone more into how MJ giving up on Peter and leaving Peter for another man is so grossly out of character for her considering her love for him was supposed to be so "pure and rare" that the devil made a deal to save someone to take their relationship. It's the fundamental problem of the entire run that never ends, because MJ could leave Paul at any time if she wanted to, so she must really love him more, but this concept is anathema to her character.
It sticks to me because it's the long term damage problem for her. Those OOC actions make it so she isn't trustable and says she doesn't love Peter either at all or so insignificantly that it dosn't make her take action. And there's nothing she can SAY that will undo that. It puts a hard limit on how she feels about the man who is supposed to be her soulmate.

So basically this is this run:
Peter does something and gets beaten up.
Peter does nothing and gets beaten up.
Peter does something reasonable and gets beaten up.
Peter does something reasonable but Wells says is bad and gets beaten up.
Peter gets beaten up and gets beaten up some more.

Good news actually ultimate Spider-Man is outselling the main book and proves Peter Parker and Mary Jane marriage actually works and also has there daughter mayday Parker spider-girl and Benjy Parker along there side is really amazing and badass, and proves marvel is wrong and is ten times better then this awful book but that’s just my opinion.

12:42 the way you describe Paul makes so much sense. He’s just a plot device to move things forward. So in essence Zeb Wells is just bad writing personified.

There is plenty wrong with this run. Paul/Wayep is bad, definitely. I’ve erased that story from my memory. MJ having powers of randomness is stupid too. Still, she doesn’t appear in Amazing much at all so it isn’t a problem for me. At this point, I’m used to her being absent.
There are aspects of Wells’ run that I like. Tombstone has come into his own as a character. He’s not just a forgettable mafia thug but is more fleshed out as a ruthless gangster and caring father. I’m waiting for him to find out who Spidey is and to put a hurting on him. I’m also curious about Ned Leeds and what is going on with his and Betty’s son. I admit, I’m not happy that plot point has been forgotten.
Norman is evil again as we all knew he would be. Having him suddenly have a conscience wasn’t a bad thing but the “sins cleansed by the Sin Eater” idea is stupid. Still, put the blame for that on Nick Spencer. ( A lot of blame can be put on Spencer.) I’m looking forward to the insinuated plot points that Norman has been dropping. I also want to know what is going on with Sandman. Does he have a split personality or what? I liked the Vulture story with his granddaughter but I guess I’m the only one. I like that Randy and Robbie Robertson are getting fleshed out. I’m a sucker for side character development. The human aspect makes these stories more interesting.
So yes, the Wayep story sucked. No question. (I don’t care about Ms. Marvel so her death doesn’t matter to me.) The story was last year and I’m over it, there are current plots going on.

To quote HeelvsBabyface, "When you pay peanuts you'll get monkeys". That's what Marvel & DC have now on their writing teams. You could argue that Marvel is worse in some ways. I believe that Marvel is outright trying to replace certain characters for various reasons. Case in point, the REAL Spider man with the Miles Morales Spider-man.
Spider-man was always Marvels loser, or hard luck character if you want to be kind, in the same way Daredevil is Marvels loser; it probably explains why they generally get along so well. When the best recent Spider-man story is that alternate Earth one, where he & MJ got married & have 2 kids & Uncle Ben is alive, is actually OUTSELLING the main Spider-books, that's fairly telling.
Honestly, just make MJ an actual super-villain foe for Spider-man at this point, he's already been killed at least twice, & been cucked. May as well give him the Indiana Jones 4 & 5 treatments to top that off.

Why did they include a Mayan god in a Spiderman story? It should have been in a Thor story, Doctor Strange or even an X-Men story but why? Why include something that is not relevant in the story of a super who has earthly problems?
