    Someone on reddit just confirmed the highland dampers can be swapped into the old model 3s and get 90% of the improved performance

      Wow, that changes everything.
      Then I can buy a cheap used old one!

    I feel that with how relatively cheap the LFP rear wheel Drive model is that it’s not so much a three series competitor anymore as it is a specked out Honda Accord or Toyota Camry competitor. And I think for that class this base suspension is very appropriate and will probably be what 95% of people are looking for. Now the performance model is probably going to be priced high enough where it needs some fancy suspension to give it both good ride quality and to be good to drive.

    Have to honestly say - Kyle is the best in the game. His real world knowledge and ability to explain EVs, suspensions, and driving experience is unparalleled - after listening to him review this car a few times, it was clear to me, it was the car to purchase over the current model and worth the wait -- order placed.

    Thank you for this re-visit. I’m picking up a M3 refresh on February 1st here in the 🇬🇧. It’s my first EV and first TESLA. I’m transitioning from a BMW 330e so I’m really pleased to hear ‘quality ride’ as we have so many pot holes here. 👍😊

    The Michelin Primacy tires are designed for comfort, not performance, and I think that comfort emphasis shows at extremely high speeds on the autobahn.
    It will be interesting to see how the dual motor version with different tires behaves under similar driving conditions.

    4:55 I think Kyle meant to say “18” Aero wheel car” instead of “19” Aero wheel car”. There are no 19” Aero wheels straight from Tesla. Plus the e.Primacy tires only come on the 18” wheels from Tesla.

    Question to all those out there, if the suspension makes the ride softer and gentler would you want it in the Model Y as well?

      Thinking about swapping for the Koni shocks for my '24 MY LR AWD. I have the Highland and the suspension is *much* better. But can't find any reviews on TH-cam, it's all Unplugged Performance which seems decent but lowers the ride height which I'm not particularly interested in.

    • @WhatTheHex
      @WhatTheHex 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@robertshawnmitchell I had koni fsd shocks about 1 year.. it was an improvement over stock 2019 perf shocks but not much. I then swapped to hightland shocks/springs (rear springs not yet installed, I wanted to test does springs matter... some say that they do not.. yes, they matter, rear is bit harsh even with highland shocks) After highland swap early perf model is now more pleasing to drive.

  • @worldtrav72

    Sounds like it’s worth waiting for if for personal use. Would expect a lot of the current models will be future Ubers. They are cheap to own and run and the interior seat material should be more durable (not saying the new seats won’t be durable, but they will be perforated so would expect some difference there long-term).

  • @ChicagoBob123
    @ChicagoBob123 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I really wish Kyle could have compared the suspension to some other car.

    • @jacquelinecracchiolo925
      @jacquelinecracchiolo925 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not easy to compare a Tesla suspension with a heavy battery that weighs about a thousand pounds underneath the vehicle you may be able to compare it with another electric car but with a non-electric it would be because of the big weight difference

    • @ChicagoBob123
      @ChicagoBob123 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jacquelinecracchiolo925 Sorry I think I gave the wrong impression. I am interested in the ride quality. This is controlled by the suspension but you should be able to compare the ride to a Chevy or a Buick or a Cadillac or a BMW or another existing car to give people an idea on what to expect.
      As good as the Hyundai? How about Genesis?

    I named my Model Y Gort, after the robot in the sci-fi classic The Day the Earth Stood Still. My wife's getting a Model Y on Thursday and we're thinking of naming it Klaatu. Or maybe Bamen or Crowbar, who were the aliens in the movie The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. 🤣🤣🤣

  • @jeffos8724
    @jeffos8724 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am 8500 miles into my 2023 rear drive model 3. In general, I feel the rebound rates on the shocks do not match the spring rates. I don't think the rear is that much of a problem, but the front is a real weak point in this car. My front suspension jiggles and knocks over washboard surfaces and some bumps as if the rebound is overwhelming the dampening rate or travel range the front struts. I'm guessing they chose the front spring rates for the dual motor car and didn't bother to soften the springs for the rear drive model. I'm surprised this does not get mentioned more in the reviews. The ride in general is pretty poor at recommended tire pressures. Taking the minor range hit by lowering the front tire pressures a few pounds makes a big difference. I also keep sand bags in the frunk.

    • @arl9327
      @arl9327 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you set the front tire pressure to? How many pounds of sand makes a difference?

    • @jeffos8724
      @jeffos8724 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@arl9327 40 rear 38 front . Right now i have about 110 lbs of sand in the front. Decision factors …. Quick and dirty Internet search indicated the dual motor model 3 would have about an extra hundred pounds over the front end versus the rear drive…. Tesla recommends a max weight capacity for the frunk of 110 pounds. I happen to have had an unopened 50 pound bag….. the local home improvement store had 30 pound bags of play sand.. so I added two of those. When I picked up the car with 45 pounds of air in the front tires, it was freaking awful. There’s still a lot of room for improvement even with these measures….. but it’s a whole lot better than it was. No noticeable degradation in handling.
