    Hey Max, nicely done range test! I appreciated the narration and status updates of everything from start to finish. Both the *corrections and interjections were excellent and well placed.
    For prospective owners, I think the good things to know are A) how many 70mph miles until 0%; B) how many miles until 🐢 mode; and C) how far on < 0% reserve can it go

    Thats the best implementation of a BSM i've ever seen. I always wonder why every automaker doesnt do exactly this inside the IC. Tesla's isnt terrible but your still taking your eyes off the road

    Tire rolling resistance makes a much bigger difference in an aerodynamic, highly efficient electric vehicle, than it does in a conventional 'gas burner'. I think you're right about the 21" wheels making a bigger difference, than the type of motors. The biggest difference is in tire compounds and inflation pressure. New tires have much more rolling resistance, than tires with 20,000 miles or more. If you do this range test after at least 10,000 miles, you would get a significantly better result.

    Brilliant - thank you and well done - I might have lost my nerve. There seems to be some opinion forming in some groups that wheels/tyres are a big differentiator for the economy, rather than the motors, particularly when the front is disconnected. Really fascinated by your results and all the stats and nerdy bits - that’s the stuff we love :)

    The bucket seats require some setup to be comfortable. I set them up similar to how Mazda suggests setting up their seats, and found it excellent.

    anything over 200 miles on a 70 mph range test is actually pretty good. My 2018 Model 3 LR RWD probably only gets 230 miles in that same test.

      Nice to see some normal tesla owners sharing their real world ranges. Kudos. I just posted a comment and in there mentioned the real world range of our M3P. Low 200s at best real world at 70mph with occasional passing at 75-80mph.

      It would be interesting to see how much of the range loss in the GT is due to the wheels. The motors may not be that big a hit.

    Just got a MYLR but really like the KIA and Hyundai's as well. This could be an awesome second car to drive around town for fun (really 99% of my driving). Very pricey, but at least there are options. Range can be overrated as long as it's not your only car.

    Someone was saying in a Facebook group you can get close to 250 with 19” wheels instead of the 21. I would be good with 250 I’m pretty sure that’s what a M3P can actually get not the 315 they advertise I’d rather have a GT

    Great job on the test. If you ever get the chance I would love to see this test done in a sportier mode to compare the difference. It would be neat to see the difference between this car in sport vs. the Tesla Model 3 Performance in Sport mode.

      There is no difference in highway range depending on drive mode, as long as you use cruise control. It disengages the front motor even in GT mode when cruise control is on. I know from my own experience.

    Great test! You are right, the difference between Kia EV6 GT and Kia EV6 GT awd is mostly down to larger wheels and wider tires. I have owned a GT Line awd and now have a GT. During winter I have been running it on the same 19" wheels and tires I had on the GT Line, and there is very little difference in range and efficiency. But are you sure the GT has a clutch that disengages the front motor, like the other awd versions do? I am not sure, I just think it does not power the front motor when cruise control is active. In my GT line there was a delay when accelerating hard and I could physically feel the front motor clutch engage. There is no such delay in the GT when I accelerate hard.

    If they could get a battery in this car to get the range into the 250+ This would be phenomenal car. It is very good but could be better. I heard that comment about 'former' employee Jordan. I think Out of Spec needs more reviewers other than this being just the Kyle nerding/geeking out over cars. Having other perspectives is what drew me to this channel to begin with.

      It gets about the same as my neighbors mY LR. They are always complaining that they can never get 300 miles or even close. By the time they need to charge on trips they have usually only gone 180-200 miles.

    Manual control seat settings - I see their logic. I have a Mini Cooper S E top spec model that has manual seat adjustment and I’m the car’s only driver so once they are set that’s it, electric adjustable memory seats are no longer required. The motors rob under seat foot room and add weight

    so from this range test, im understanding that most discrepancy is from wheels and tires. same thing as m3lr and m3p but even moire aggressive tire and wheels and psi recommendations.

    I have had my GT over here in the UK for just over 2,000 miles. It has Michelin Pilot 4S tyres. You were showing the consumption screen for the journey, but you can also see the consumption since inception, and for mine the figures are 2003.5 miles @ 3.3 M/kWh over 84 hours 33 minutes. I have done 2 long trips, and many shorter ones, often demonstrating performance to my friends, so a fair bit of GT mode included. Only difference to your car is the tyres and UK cars do not get the sunroof, so maybe some weight saving, which helps if you have gradient changes. I have mentioned that WLTP give a range of 263 miles for the GT - possibly a European regulator uses slower speeds - perhaps we are much more crowded hmmm ?

    The GT is also about 200kg heavier and the 21" tires are not just bigger but also much wider (235 v 255)

      I drive a RWD around 65-70mph. 60-65 is where you want to keep it when on the highway. I've seen as much as up to 5 m/kwh if you handle the inclines correctly. Definitely some good strategy can push a good number of miles, possibly over 320

      All of the other EGMP cars have pretty great charging curves. They’ll rip 235 KW until 55% assuming they’re warm. I wouldn’t imagine this will be any different.

      Looked it up, ev6 changes fast. Bjorn has a charging video showing ev6 compared to several other fast charging EVs.

      Keep in mind when road tripping you will only be fast charging between 10-80 so that 217 is more like 150 for each trip leg. If going 75mph that means stopping for at least 20 minutes and sometimes up to an hour every 2 hours of driving.

      @@Snerdles yes, unfortunately DCFC are about 70 miles apart so most cars are stopping every couple of hours bc they can’t make it to the third charger which will be more than 200 miles. EVs still take a little more time for a road trip than Gas cars.

    Interestingly, you get ~205 miles on highway-only driving and the EPA has that number in combined consumption ( 55% highway + 45% city). For their highway segment they have a MPG of 74 and you have over 91.
    I wonder if it's possible to find somewhere how they set up the car for testing, as the difference is significant.

      I did read from an unofficial source that the EPA test included GT mode. Which is probably reasonable and expected. I couldn’t imagine them doing a test on a car which doesn’t include its main function :)

      If you follow EPA range rating of EV vehicles you’ll see pattern. All US built vehicles range over stated. All EV’s built outside the United States range understated. 100% true.

      E-gmp cars will charge 10-80 in under 20 min on a 350kw charger with a non-cold battery. 80-90 goes fairly quick, about another 5-6 min, the last 10% will be about 10-15 min. But you rarely full charge when road tripping if you’ve got enough to range to make the next charger.
      At home, on a proper L2 charger it charges overnight, as does nearly anything except a hummer.

    That's still not too bad for basically a 500 HP supercar. I know the anti EV crowd will say lol my 96 f250 diesel can go 400 miles bla bal bla..... But as your display shows that's 3 1/2 hours non stop freeway driving and most people don't drive that far often if ever. Don't think our Ioniq 5 AWD has ever been under 35 or 40% and I drive 100 miles a day.

    Welp... called it; it beat combined EPA range in constant speed highway driving. (Normally highway range would be lower than combined EPA) That's very likely due to the front motor staying disconnected over the entire route due to driving at a constant speed.
    10 miles over EPA range at 52F. 206 EPA versus 217.2 tested. At optimal 65-75F temps, it'll improve on that range further.
    The EPA estimate is likely taking a big hit because the front PM motor only disconnects in specific situations; such as constant speed driving below 76 mph. If the PM motor is connected to the front axle when it isn't needed, it'll cause magnetic resistance and hurt the car's efficiency. The EPA test doesn't have a whole lot of constant speed driving, so there's a good chance the front motor is staying engaged for a good percentage of the time.
    IRL, people don't care all that much about an EV's efficiency or range in day to day driving. They care about whether the vehicle can road trip in a timely manner. They care about the combination of total range, efficiency, and charging speed. While total range / efficiency suffers in this car, high charging speed makes up for that quite a bit.
    For those wondering why this thing's range is so low; it's because the usable battery capacity is only 77 kWh, it's heavy at over 4800 lbs, its drag coefficient isn't great at .297 (higher than the non-GT EV6), and it's using fairly wide non-eco focused high performance tires for improved grip. Many EV performance cars may use summer tires, but they're often designed to trade some traction in favor of lower rolling resistance.
    On that note, if you really wanted to maximize this vehicle's range, you could always get a second set of all season tires for the winter / road tripping and swap them out as needed. Since swapping tires extends the life of the summer tires, it's effectively a no-cost (except time) solution.

      Test was performed at 44F - 52F on a sunny day. The HVAC was also set lower than usual, so it would have used less energy than a typical test. The sun would have helped warm the cabin, further reducing HVAC energy use.

    Mach-e is super nice and with Tesla adding CCS the design of Mach-e will be recognized for just how cool it is.
    Kia nice too just different taste than for the Mach-e driver.
    Tesla still every brand’s benchmark.

      The benchmark in every category except reliability. That’s the single biggest reason to go with the Kia (in theory).
      But I would wager that the company with the better warranty, who expects their cars to last longer, will have the edge in reliability.

    The key information I get from these tests is the range one can comfortably expect at highway speeds, and what the end of charge handling is like. Here, I am happy to see that we don't fall off a cliff at the end of the battery.

    it will probably hit 250 in ideal summer conditions, and that is incredible for a supercar disguised as a crossover. thanks for the video. if you want range get the gt-line! always fun to see the EV haters out in force, and the tesla fanboys. my EV6 has been awesome and taken me all over the place. easily hits 270-280 miles and charges fast. seriously if you have nothing better to do than drop hateful comments on a youtube video on friday night you have got to be a serious loser.

    Shocking to see so many confused people (tesla fan boys perhaps or simply the uninformed) comparing the GT to a M3P, when it should be the MYP.
    Keep in mind that the GT has 21" wheels, is heavier and with a smaller battery back, yet is still dialing in ~217 miles on a full charge.
    Imagine the GT with smaller and lighter wheels, which would help it achieve a bit more range.
    Tesla fan boys need to get off their paper spec fantasy of 315 miles on the M3P and stop acting like it can get anywhere near that in the real world.
    217 miles for a car that's faster, better built, 800v charging architecture, more fun to drive overall (subjective, but against the MYP certainly better for most people) and more unique than a 3/y is quite impressive for a first attempt proper EV performance car.
    Multiple Tesla owner here. Not in the lousy tesla fan boy club that lives in denial thinking their appliance on wheels is anything spectacular.
    Just did a trip in our M3P over the weekend that was barely over 200 miles, leaving at 95% and there's no way it could have made it without making at least one stop at a SC. The drive was mainly on flat road with a lot of straight shots for miles ~70mph cruise/AP, occasional 75-80 passing. ~58-60F outside and dry.
    So yea/NO it ain't doing 315 miles as claimed. -100 miles from the figure (~215 miles) then yes that's more accurate (real world.)
    As much there are fan boys lurking here, there are also smart folks who can see past the glitter and realize that the usable range is sufficient on the GT that happens to charge a lot faster as well. It ain't bad at all for it clocking in 217 miles given the circumstances.

      Well said, all who have watched Kyle Connor in his M3P knows he works the lower SoC of the battery and drives less than 200 mile segments except for out west. We are seniors and can’t wait to get out of the car every 150-180 miles anyway.

      @@Charlesbjtown , Yea I get that and agree, which leads to my example on my M3P where I still need to make a stop to charge due to it not being able to do barely over 200 miles real world.
      The point being that even the M3P is being measured from near 100 to 0% ...
      Most generally keep their battery between 80 to 20% as the daily usable range. This would mean that either a Tesla 3/y or the GT in this example would be making the same stops to charge up.
      However, the KIA would charge faster as the teslas drop off pretty fast and remain at a pretty slow state of charge speed vs the E-GMP platforms.
      Have you seen the Vegas race test? You should check that out and pay attention to the results.

    It blows me away with how inefficient the Kia EV6 and Ioniq 5 are 😳 208 miles on a single charge SUCKS, and 2.9 mi/kWh is painful

      Yeah, a Model Y will return 280 miles on the same amount of energy, which means the faster charging doesn't gain you anything in terms of road tripping, Kia/Hyundai are p***ing their charging advantage away with poor efficiency. Compounded by the fact their pre-conditioning only works if the charger is a destination vs a planned stop...

      you don't specify the trim level and also totally misrepresent the actual real world range. for example, my ev6 wind will easily do 280 miles in ideal conditions. have a nice day.

    The efficiency of the EV6 GT is abysmal. My Tesla Model 3 Performance, at the same speed on a highway consumes easily 30% less electricity with the same/similar technical specs! That counts over the years.

      @@bigdi77 Of course the TM3P weighs 1850kg compared to about 2200kg for the EV6 GT, AND with the same battery capacity (77 kWh) and almost as much power. ALSO, the TM3P has an induction motor in front which can be FULLY stopped when not needed such as on highways at constant speeds, while the EV6 GT permanent magnet front motor runs ALL the time, consuming (unnecessarily, energy!! AGAIN that is NOT good, or insufficient good engineering!) These just a FEW of the differences between the EV6 GT (and for that matter sake most other EVs in the same space) compared to a Tesla. Then, WHAT what matters most for ANY EV is EFFICIENCY (as part of the wider energy transformation!!) and thus unless an EV is comparable in consumption and cost per km or mile driven, it fails.

      The Tesla Model 3 does not have similar specs to the Kia EV6, as it is shorter and weighs a lot less.
      The Model Y is a better comparison.

      @@QuantumMechanic343 True, but the Y gets about 280 miles real world @70 on the same size battery so again the Kia is really bad efficiency wise. The faster charging is a necessary crutch to even keep up with a Y on a road trip.

      That is another apples to oranges comparison! You are comparing a Model Y Long Range to a Kia EV6 GT. The Model Y LR has 384 horsepower against the GT's 576 - completely different specs.
      If you want to talk about the Model Y Long Range, a more fair comparison would be a 70 MPH range tests between it and the EV6 Wind. The Model Y LR gets 275 miles (there is a State of Charge video) against the Kia EV6 Wind's 254 miles, so a ~20 miles difference.
      I've never seen a range test with the Model Y Performance, but that would be a better comparison against the Kia EV6 GT featured in this video.

    Appreciate all the great work from out of spec …… but please no more granny tests to give EVs their best chance to meet their published specs. Drive the cars like everybody else on the toad is driving. You were getting passed by every fully loaded semi and uhaul on the interstate. That’s ridiculous and you are making the interstate dangerous by poking along. Test the cars at normal highway speeds and let’s us know what they can do as if they are the same as everything else on the road. If the actual non ticketed speed is 7 or 8 mph over where you are, drive it and let’s see which companies do the best. Sorry for the rant but thanks for continued videos and I’ll keep on watching faithfully.

      Over 85% of US highways have limits of 60-70 mph. Regions with limits above 70 are usually in rural areas. This test is meant to represent the highway driving conditions most people incur.
      He was getting passed because speed limits in that area ranged from 75 - 80 mph, but there were still some trucks he passed that were driving under 70 mph. Semis and box trucks passing at over 70 mph are just wasting gas. They really shouldn't be driving over 65 mph. Limits in my area are 70 mph, and most trucks seem to sit around 63-67 mph.
      It's only dangerous if you're impeding the flow of traffic. Traffic density was low that day, so he wasn't creating a dangerous situation.
      7-8 mph over... just because you don't get pulled over doesn't make it smart. More people need to learn to drive the speed limit; and the more that do, the more positive reinforcement there is on others to follow suit. While it's cute so many people decided to normalize 7-8 mph over the speed limit... (often found sitting in the fast lane as if it's a normal driving lane and not a passing lane)... they're the ones creating a larger speed differential with people following the rules and creating a higher risk of accident. They're also wasting their own money and everyone else's by using more gas / energy, driving up demand / prices; not to mention emissions. Air resistance increases exponentially as you increase speed. If we really cared about saving gasoline, saving money, and reducing emissions, we'd all not only drive the speed limit, we'd also lower speed limits by 5-10 mph across the board and enforce those speed limits.
      Your insistence that people drive faster makes my commute more expensive. Thanks... I appreciate it...
      Then y'all have the nerve to complain that other people aren't driving fast enough. Sooo.... you want us to drive faster and waste even more gas/energy and drive prices up even higher, making yours and everyone else's commutes more expensive? Mmmm... seems a bit silly.
      Ironically, most of the time people don't speed because they're in a hurry or late for something... they're just speeding because that's what they're used to. In fact, slowing down, driving the speed limit, and driving in slower lanes could even disorient them because they're not used to it.
      FYI, I used to be one of those people who consistently drove 7 mph over the limit, often in the fast lane flying by loads of other cars. I decided the environment was more important, so now I drive almost exclusively at the speed limit in the slower lanes, and yes it was disorienting at first. Sometimes late at night with the highways are nearly empty, I may drive 5 mph under the speed limit. And I'm not the only one. I find loads of other people driving under the limit when the highway is quiet. In rush hour, with far more cars on the road, it's ironic that traffic is often pushing people to go over the speed limit... as if it's saving much time...
      How much more time does it take to commute home 13 miles doing 60 mph instead of 70 mph?
      One minute. One. Holy moly, that's sooo much more time!
      BTW, as a consistent speeder, you probably don't realize that there are a lot of people driving the speed limit. Know all those people you fly by every day... yep, most are doing the speed limit. Ironically, when you do drive the speed limit, it seems like no one is driving the limit. That's because there area a LOT of consistent speeders passing us, but our fellow speed limit drivers are always equidistant from us, so while it may seem like there aren't many... there are actually plenty.

      I think that you (incorrectly) assume that because there is a high speed limit near you that “everybody” drives at 80+. That simply isn’t true. 70mph is a fair speed for the majority of the country, especially for those of us who care to not waste energy.

      Did you even watch the video? It was 217 miles. It beat the EPA rating of 206 miles. Not sure where you got your 200 miles from, probably from K-mart.

    CCS charging is too unreliable so this 200 mi range EV is unacceptable for me. I wouldn’t consider any non-Tesla with under 250 mi range due to poor road trip charging infrastructure. So far, Tesla is slow to roll-out it’s Magic Dock.
