    This is a car for the EV nerds who love to drive hard. The faster you go the more you appreciate the chassis and powertrain tuning. The car needs to be in the right SoC and temperature range to truly perform, but when you get it right, it’s a missile. One of the most fun electric cars I’ve ever driven - but only when you’re absolutely sending it. Around town, it’s a bit awkward as I explain in the video with that big front motor. Either way, it’s one of those cars that improves with speed so just keep it on the ragged edge on the daily commute and you’ll love it!

  • @markgeezey1809

    Hi Kyle, great video and hats off to your back road driving skills🙌Guys over here in the Nordic countries getting 230-250 miles in reasonably cold weather as long as you drive it sensibly. Plus here in Europe we get 220-230v and 3.5kw for V2L. In the US you get lower power due to your 110v standard system. In regards to the GT Line yes it comes with the uprated Meridian sound system. Also the GT Line does have the benefit of the ventilated and full electric seats which the GT loses. Also for some reason they excluded the snow mode which you have on the GT Line but not on the GT. Shame as snow mode works brilliantly. Just sold my full spec”d GT Line and waiting to take over dealers demo GT in Sept. Was looking forward to it and after seeing your vid, now I am really excited. As good as the model 3 performance is, remember due to size this really competes with Model Y performance and watching various other vids the EV6 GT really wins against many of its rivals on the fact it just keeps giving the performance at higher speeds. Watch Carwow in UK against numerous performance EV”s. As you rightly said who cares about range, especially when it can charge crazy fast and have so much fun.
    Love the vids 👍👍

    • @AntonChigurification
      @AntonChigurification ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I have a GT. Without even trying, I easily get the 230-250 mile range you mentioned, and I still have plenty of fun with it. I would literally have to go out of my way to only get 200 miles. I'm sure Kia was trying to account for more aggressive driving(?) when providing their estimated range, but I think they did their job too well. It's literally misleading. One would have to drive in GT mode almost nonstop and punch the accelerator from stop light to stoplight all day, then maybe hop on the Autobahn and drive 160mph for half a day to only get 200 miles.

    • @johnodell5310
      @johnodell5310 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's when you can find a charger that works. Currently you would frequently be out of juice and not going very far at all.

    • @markgeezey1809
      @markgeezey1809 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AntonChigurification exactly. Just sold my GT line AWD and ordered my GT. Even with the GT line Kia were very liberal with the range. Looking forward to getting mine. Albeit will miss the ventilated seats on a hot summers day. But I guess going too fast to care 🤣🤣

    • @markgeezey1809
      @markgeezey1809 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@johnodell5310 luckily in Europe charging in general is pretty good and I certainly have never had any range anxiety when travelling reasonably long distances. Plus the EV6 chargers stupid quick even in winter now it has pre-conditioning to fast chargers. You seem to have a bad time of it with the likes of EA in the US based on Kyle’s feedback. Hopefully that will change soon and now that Tesla are opening up fast chargers there. Can’t believe they did that in Europe way before the US. But i have never needed to use a Tesla supercharger as Ionity quicker and much cheaper.

    Woot for Alyssa!! I have been a Hyundai/Kia fan for a long time as I have owned a 2014 Elantra and a 2016 Veloster Turbo 6-speed. The EV6 and Ioniq 5 have caught my eyes since their launch. The first EV that I ever drove was an Ioniq 5 (I think SE but cannot remember, whichever one came out first) on a test drive. Of course I had been watching OOS for quite some time up to that point. Needless to say it was amazing. Nice triple kilos!

    I got mine a month ago. It’s my first EV and the first car I’ve ever owned with a matte paint job. So it’s been a lot to learn all at once! Ha ha! But I absolutely love it. I had a Fisker Ocean pre-ordered. But it kept looking more and more like I wasn’t going to get my car this year and I was tired of waiting after two years. I do not regret my decision at all. • @cdombek
    @cdombek ปีที่แล้ว +17

    I agree with your comments on VW. The EV6 GT is essentially the electric GTI/Golf R that Volkswagen never built. Lack of range seems to be this car’s only downfall. Hot hatches are sadly under-appreciated.

    • @speksih
      @speksih ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually the range is not as bad as the EPA suggests. Norwegian magazine winter tested the GT and it did 349km, where Ioniq 5 AWD did 342km!
      With 19-20" wheels you'll get 70-100km more range in the summer, if you like smaller wheels.

The biggest problem for me was finding dealers that hadn't presold the EV6 and marked it up $8K over sticker. So, is the EV6 GT a better performance car than GV60 Performance? I'd like to See IONIQ 5 N as a nice 3rd option, though I'm an Kia fan over the Genesis... Though my brain says go for RWD GT-Line for the range. (I would get it as a road tripper) even though RWD only gets 225 or so hp v/ the 320 hp of the AWD GT-Line. Range isn't horrible, but the bit extra range would mean I may be able to skp Grand Junction when traveling West from SLC on I-70

    Start a little under or 20 C and with 150-180kw it will ramp up to 240kw and hold it long enought for perfect charge.

    I finally got my test of the GT and I really liked it. I would not agree that the GT is not a good everyday driver at least from my short test drive. I will have to double check its drivability around town as I did not have any tire spinning issues heading out in traffic from the dealer (in Fort Collins btw) and actually found the power even in GT mode to be quite manageable. I even parked it back in the lot in GT mode just to see and it was fine. No sudden jerkiness or spinning. Maybe I have a lighter foot than Kyle does. I was also impressed with the ride quality which I assumed would be stiffer. Not sure I liked the buckets though so I already ordered some narrow sheepskins that will reduce the aggressive bolstering for everyday driving as there is one in Royal Blue with my name on it coming in by the end of the month. For additional $2500 over the GTline it will be hard not to get the GT. Now what's up with a tech nerd like Kile not being able to find the My-Drive mode setting lol. Thanks again for the fun video.

      It has more than enough range. 280-350 miles or more depending on driving behavior. Just don’t floor it if you just want to go from a to b then it on par with all others

    When Misha test this on the Nurburgring and was laugh crying about it I had to get it. Best bang for your buck performance EV Ive ever owned or seen. Fast charging. Zero problems. Nothing was faster that I came across except Plaids of course and that's double HP cars. When I tested it at the dealership in was only at 32% and I was laugh crying and speechless on how fast it was. Bought it instantly. And I have owned over 20 drift cars and track cars. Even exotic's get a surprise there not happy about. I usually run in Eco mode because of the neck breaking makes everyone sick. In the canyons Im in sport and straights GT mode. I run regen 1, 0 on freeways and 3 in canyons. Prices fell alot because it is still a secret. All this and i would of never owned a KIA. Now I have a EV9. ;> When these go down alot more I will modify one for track only and shock more people. PS I have flown by Tesla performances even after giving them the hit. ;> Pulls all the way till 158MPH dosnt feel good at that speed. In the rain dosnt feel any diff off the line I was shocked how fast it was. Sport mod is the way to go. Drift mode is lame. You can do circle donuts no problem like other HP AWD exotics. 1/4 mile 11.3 0-60 3 sec. 0-163 pulls the whole time. Went through tires in 5 months, so do most EV tires if pushed. Enjoy be safe. Only gripe was when changing modes ECO, Sport, GT you have to cycle the modes not just press the button to go back and forth. Little blinds spots, has cameras for that.

    Anxiously awaiting the first EV that will make me ready to say goodbye to my track S2000. This is a step in the right direction but there's still a difference between a GT car and a real sports car. Fingers crossed on the Cayman EV (though it will probably be too expensive)

    Test drove a Golf R right before test driving the EV6 GT. Needless to say, I bought the EV6. Kyle is right. The two cars are not even in the same universe in terms of performance. No comparison whatsoever. The fact that the EV6 has so much more room for passengers in the back closed the deal for me. I drive Uber as a side hustle. This may surprise you but the EV6 GT works great as an Uber car. Riders compliment me on the vehicle several times a day and tip me accordingly. Mostly, they love the interior and heated rear seats. I find the car to be extremely comfortable to drive for long periods. The drive modes are very helpful to fit varying driving conditions and to extend brake pads and rotors lifespan. One-pedal driving in bumper to bumper trafic is super comfortable. The range is mediocre compared to other EV’s but you would be surprised: if I drive Uber for 8 hours straight, which I rarely do, I typically barely reach half the car’s 260 mile range. Most Uber rides are done on city streets, not on the highway. Consequently, range is not as much of a concern as one might think. Contrarily to what some claim, I believe the EV6 GT is a very capable daily driver. It is not an uncomfortable, uncompromising performance car at all. That is if you of course don’t believe manual seat adjustments qualifies as too hard a pill to swallow. If you do, you are probably not a performance car enthusiast and the the EV6 GT is probably not for you. In which case, I would suggest you consider a Golf R. The interior is exquisite and VW reserved all the electric performance specifically for the front seats. Save for the Tesla Model Y Performance, no vehicle in the EV6 GT’s price range is actually capable of offering such performance while maintaining any semblance of practicality. In fact, very few vehicles in any price range offer this level of performance, period.

    Great review! Impressive compared to the Mach-E GT review.... Ford has a lot to catch up with Tesla and Hyundai/Kia group. The Mach-E GT review was very disappointing, they really don't have the thermals nailed down in their electric cars.

    Scorch or Spin marks.
    Love the exterior design, but not so keen on the dash setup, but I'm big on performance and handling so much can be forgiven if a vehicle gives me that.
    I have driven the Mach E GT and it is really nice, but like you, found it is doesn't seem to be sorted near as well as the EV6.
    My nearest KIA dealer is over 100-miles away so no experience with it, but your experience has me hiding my checkbook cuz it seems like it is a no brainer, But, the Model 3 Performance/Plaid(?) when it is available will be in the running, too.
    Not many woman can relax as well as Alyssa when dirt tracking a car, you lucky. The first gal who got a thrill out of my testing the limits was years ago when I took her for back country spin in an XK-120 . Straight pipes screaming and tires squealing and she called for more with a big two moons grin and long blond hair streaming. Unfortunately there have been too few since her.
    Thanks for posting this real world enthusiast POV.

    I think the mach E looks so much better and has better functionality, it's a shame ford is struggling so much with 8ts thermals esp compared to tesla/eGMP. You never talked about general around the town use like you said you were at the beginning of the video, was looking forward to that.

    When you do the range test you should try some comparisons of the GT mode to eco mode, you'd probably have to test it by doing a few back to back launches in each mode and comparing the battery drop since just cruising at 70mph won't be taking advantage of the extra horsepower. If it has the same battery as other models then it should be able to get similar range when you're not giving it all the beans.

    I remember when the Porsche 959 came to production in the mid to late 80's, using a Lemans racing engine used in the Porsche 962 IMSA. It had a zero to 60 time in 3.6 seconds, which was considered miraculous for a production vehicle, and now you have the same performance coming from an electric powered KIA hatchback.

    KIA put the smack down on Ford and showed how to make a "GT" performance car. 👍👍
    Maybe Ford should have re-used the "Probe" name for their car instead of calling it a Mustang.
